Partisan Operative Media Begins Pushing Biden's Insane Talking Point that $3.5 Trillion Spending Plan Is Actually a Zero Dollar Spending Plan

Hey guys remember when NeverTrump foisted this sexually-assaulting demented clown on us to save us from all of Trump's Remorseless Lies (TM)?

Screenshot (506).png

Joe Cunningham at RedState thinks he knows why Biden is pushing this insane lie: Because Joe Manchin is refusing to vote for it based on its cost and so Biden and all of his puppeteers are repeating "Hur-dur, akshually, it costs zero point zero zero dollars, hur-dur."

It's because Senator Joe Manchin has repeatedly brought up the cost in his public statements. Manchin's constituents don't want this much spending, so the rest of the party are rolling out this PR campaign in order to convince one state that it’s cool and their Senator should get on board.

It’s not going to work out, though, because no one is actually falling for it.

For weeks, we have heard what the bill will cost. We have heard what it will pay for. We know it's going to cost something, but the Biden administration and the Democrats are out there trying to say it will have net zero costs. They are using a little creative wordplay to hide what they have been loudly proclaiming up until now: They are going to raise your taxes.

Oh the tax increases don't even begin to cover this massive spending.

You will not be very surprised to hear that Washington Post "journalists" are already chanting the DNC religious devotional hymn.

One thing. For 40 some odd years, the liberals had to hide what they really wanted to do and who they really were. When Obama won, they figured that was all over. When Trump won, they doubled down on being completely insane. After the election was stolen, they see no reason to go back.

Posted by: Deplorable Ian Galt at September 27, 2021 11:26 AM (ufFY8)

21 "Net zero cost" is not the same as "does not contribute to the debt." The first would be true if every dollar in the new bill is cut out of someone else's budget. $3.5 trillion in costs offset by $3.5 in cuts elsewhere. That isn't what this, and it's not net-zero.

To "not contribute to the debt," it must be financed pay-go with new taxes or other revenue enhancements. This is what they're claiming. But it can't be done. It's too much money, and it can't be financed pay-go. It will add to the debt, period. They can't raise taxes enough to cover it because raising taxes *never* raises as much as they think. It never does.

They're not arguing that the spending will pay for itself. They are arguing that there's enough to tax on an annual basis in the top 1% of Americans to cover the expenses while also insisting that there will be no negative economic impact.

Because they are both stupid and dishonest, depending on which is talking.

100 Quantitative Easing is Magic, as is MMT. Just print it baby.

Their are variations on that theme, and I'm fuzzy on details ... BUT ... why print bonds and have to pay interest on them, when they can just QE it and put it on the Fed Reserve books?

(there have not been enough buyers anyway, and that is with the crises still pushing the world into the "Safe Haven" of the USD ... it won't be considered safe if they keep printing trillions for their socialist dream machine)

But afaik, if they QE it all, it is zero interest free money ... the real cost is in inflation, which steals from savers. The QE machine started under Obama with $1T per year ... not sure about under Trump, except the Plandemic crisis suddenly cranked out ? $5T or so? and I think that is continuing ... at a slower pace, even now?

Promoting (instead of squashing) crude, crazy racist indoctrination in American institutions including the military? Worsening the calamitous insane spending binge that was already a disaster?

How do these things relate to any "mandate"? Joe didn't run, and the limp bizarre empty slogans surrounding his non-campaign probably could not be ID'd or their meaning even guessed at by 90% of Biden voters.

Okay. Let's assume a 10% flat federal tax on all new final goods and services with zero exemptions. GDP is about $21 trillion, so that would raise about $2.1 trillion in revenue, plus whatever comes in through fees and tariffs. If spending could be brought down to $1.25 trillion, plus the about half a trillion in interest service, we could put about a quarter trillion per year into retiring date. So that's four years per trillion and a national debt of about $30 trillion, so that's 120 years.

Give or take.

Probably. If it were handled with an acceptable level of corruption, though, it would likely unchain the economy, too. The economy won't be at $21 trillion in ten years, it'll probably be at 30 or 35 (accounting for the -$5-7 trillion move that such a huge government realignment would cause). Each year of growth is a year of greater debt repayment - or fiscal sequestering to pay the debt when it comes due. So it would likely not take 120 years, it would probably take closer to 60-75 - but it will never happen anyway and so it's entirely academic.

We can, and it's what they're trying. They're going to try the "high inflation" route. High inflation - even very high - and hyperinflation are not the same things. The former is a monetary phenomenon, the latter is a political phenomenon. High inflation can work by robbing the productive, but we have a problem with that, too, which is that much of the total debt is cyclically refinanced on fairly short terms. After five years, a whole lot of the total turns over and will do so at higher interest rates (probably, unless Fed starts buying directly and below-market prices), starting the cycle anew.

But it, and horrible BP morale, won't change the fact the country has chosen years of this kind of destructive, inexcusable idiocy. Or that most of the GOP was quite content to throw away a vastly better near-term future.

267 Our entire economy is based on a ludicrous myth right now anyway. Its beyond the point of reasonably expected repair, the dollar is essentially worthless, but its still treated as valuable because to admit to the lie would crash the global economy. How long we can keep this going is a matter of some curiosity, because eventually it won't work. And it won't work very suddenly and catastrophically.

On that we don't disagree. And the kind of thing that *does* cause hyperinflation - is full destruction of confidence and stability, rather than strictly monetary effects - are starting to show up. Legislators bluntly calling our currency Monopoly Money - and saying it like it's a *good* thing - is the kind of the thing that leads to a hyperinflationary outcome.

True on both counts. Inflation is insanely regressive (because poor people spend all their money, and rich people don't), is a form of double or more taxation (because it erodes money owned post-tax) and is a wealth tax rather than a transactional tax.

Not to mention all the other downsides, incentive perversion, etc.

347 In terms of fiscal sanity, America didn't really face a good choice in November 2020. Trump understands finance but never showed more than de minimis political will on fiscal restraint, much less sanity, when it comes to federal spending. Of course he was saddled with a GOP that was/is only slightly less worse than the Dems on the topic.

Well, we're getting the "worse", or at least an effort is being made to deliver it. The only relevant, vastly preferable likelihood under another Trump term would have been, of course, probability of much, much greater and higher quality economic growth. Which would soften the blow of spending idiocy, which would of course also have been below levels we can expect now.

But the complete disappearance of any serious and real fiscal responsibility in the last 15 years, even as part of a rhetorical framework, remains striking. And frightening.

I was all in stocks from 1982 to 1999 ... got lucky catching the bull run, but just IRA level stuff, not riches. But trying to day trade just happened to coincide with the dotcom bubble ... I got mostly out, seeing the SHTF days coming ... soon. I did not see zero interest, certainly did not imagine QE to infinity or MMT.

But I bought the small farm, so might produce enough in inflated goods to keep up. If you have stocks that pay dividends, maybe that keeps up as well ... homes will inflate, but so will taxes ... and maybe it depends on what kind of "Great Reset" occurs.

Savers might be OK, or at least better off than debtors that lose their job, so lose everything.

Same here. Savers have been screwed for all but a couple of the last 12 years. Inflation will wipe out a good amount of value for those who can't roll the dice in the market anymore due to shortened timelines.

The silver lining is that much of the social madness we've been forced to endure will disappear during the "lean" years. Our social ills are a symptom of a wealthy decadent society, and when all energy is expended on survival, this tends to go away.
It's something to look forward to and take comfort in, when the hunger pangs and cold get to be too much.

395 We will see how it plays out in the end, but this is what I suspected would happen ever since the $1T bill passed the Senate.

Once Pelosi, Biden, and the Squad called that DOA, I've suspected this is all going to fall. Manchin and Sinema telegraphed that the only bill they will sign is the $1T version and dared the House to pull the plug.

The $1T doesn't give them all the social boondoggles they want, so why should the House sign on?

Political climate has changed in the last month, making Machin and Sinema caving on this less likely, and no one in the GOP will bail out the Dems since they already passed a bill.

396 just called my congressweasel and told her flunky that I opposed the tax plan especially any hint of reducing Social Security. I pointed to opposing any backroom deals not subject to open discussion and legislation. I mentioned supporting anyone running against her if she didn't wise up.

It got interesting when I mentioned Open Borders, that the economy can't withstand it and that bringing in unvaccinated/unvetted illegals exposes people to diseases we conquered years ago. I said if an FBI agent can be attacked on a military base by a group of Afghani, sending them into small cities and towns is a huge danger to our health and safety.

The bint on the phone said "Oh but they've all been vetted and vaccinated." I told her "You're saying that to protect the system. You must think I'm stupid. I can see throngs of people under bridges and fording rivers and entering this country unhindered."

She tried to counter me and I said " I don't believe you. You'll say anything to shut people like me up. That won't work anymore."
