  • I fixed the SSL certificates, in case you were wondering why the blog looked funny. If you weren't wondering, the CSS file probably hadn't expired from your browser cache before I fixed it.

  • A tale of two protests: The DC protest rally didn't happen because it glowed bright enough to be seen with the naked eye from the Oort Cloud.

The Melbourne protest went right ahead. The police locked down public transport and major roads in the center of Melbourne in preparation... So fifteen minutes before the event was supposed to start, the organisers simply moved it by a couple of miles.

  • AMD's next-gen graphics cards could triple the rendering power over the current generation. (WCCFTech)

At the high end they're also expected to cost twice as much - but twice as much as current MSRP, not twice current retail, which is close to twice MSRP anyway. Since they're not expected to ship until late next year (ignore where it says Q4 2021, that's an error) we might actually see supply constraints somewhat improved and prices likewise.

The mid-range 7600XT will have - according to these leaks - similar hardware to the current high-end 6900XT, but with more cache and less memory bandwidth.

4 I'm amazed how despite everyone calling this out as a setup, the Feds still showed up to prove them right. You'd think any group with intelligent leadership would make sure they didn't get caught doing what everyone suspected they were doing, but they went one step further and made it 100% obvious. The video of the fed getting arrested shows they aren't just incompetent, but can't even learn to work with thier fellow incompetent conspirators when trying to create a false flag attack.

If nothing hopefully this event outed a lot of idiot feds, so that they are burned from ever working again. Maybe they can instead spend that time protecting pedophiles and terrorist instead.

15 IT IS Amazing AMD is still a thing. I remember owning Research in Motion during the tech melt down. I was far afield but I held on. It was always AMD vs Intell back then. I don't know enough about computers to know who won. But I recall owning RIMM when the shit hit the fan. It could have been worse, way, way, worse.

I remember COLT, the City of London company that was taking over the world. There was also a Dutch company called KMP. They spun off one called KMp something. The key was all people in pharma wanted to invest in tech. All tech types wanted to invest in pharma.

How do you know the guy who got arrested was a federal agent? I've seen info that he identified himself as an off-duty police officer. Is it not inconceivable that he was a cop who wanted to attend to support the cause? And, as I understand federal law makes it legal for an active police officer to conceal carry anywhere in the U.S. so I think his weapons charge will be dropped.

If he was an active duty cop just there to attend the protest in his off time he 100% wouldn't be carrying his gun, because if he supported the J6 defendants he knows that, active duty cop or not, his gun would make him a target and he'd get prosecuted for it, as even if he's allowed to carry a weapon they would charge him with carrying a weapon during a riot, or what ever trumped up charges they decide. Those trying to help thre defendants know better than to help price the government's point that these guys are all guntotting wackos.

Also the obvious wearing all black with a black bandana is 100% what a fed would do thinking that makes him fit in.

His response to "are you undercover or attending" was "I'm just here, helping the guys out" which a show's the Capitol office know there are undercover cops there, and he's not denying he is or isn't one, knowing there are cameras all around.

58 An episode of The Invaders is on. I never realized that David Vincent, the hero, had allies in his quest to reveal the existence of the saucer-flying aliens. Never having watched the show back then, I thought each episode featured him as the lone voice crying in the wilderness, sort of like Richard Kimble trying to prove his innocence.

Apparently they never were consistent in their depiction of the aliens' abilities and knowledge, a problem common to episodic TV back then. Still, the concept of "paranoia is a survival trait" is a good one.

It's an easy dialect to copy (it sounds like Brooklyn cab drivers from '40s movies) and to make fun of. I've always unfairly deducted about 10 IQ points from a speaker whenever I hear it. I will say hearing it helped develop my ear for dialects at an early age. I was aware that the way my Canadian mother and I spoke, and the way most of schoolmates talked, was very different, and that the latter sounded like Leo Gorcey and his pals on the Bowery Boys movies. As a writer I found that came in handy later.

When a Nebraskan member of my writing group announced that she'd never found that book funny, I stopped listening to her. For sheer humor I prefer Richard Bradford's Red Sky at Morning, but ACoD has some good moments. And Toole captures the NO dialect in print better than anybody. He has people say "chirren" for "children," which is exactly right. Most writers substitute "chillun." I've never heard that in my life, not here.

Dear God yes. My best friend in jr. high lived in one such house near Esplanade and Broad. When his family moved to a modern air-conditioned house in the suburbs, it was like visiting a completely different world. My family got a window unit when I was 12, and I immediately moved indoors for the entire summer.

We didn't have air in school, just open windows, until I got to college. Don't know how we dealt with it -- or how the teachers survived it.

But later in life I knew a guy who was a good guy it seemed. He joined the FBI as an accountant. Back then, that was the top way to join, they wanted accountants like they were going out of style. This guy went from a conservative top a statist like that. it wasn't even comical. It was so blatant that it was only sad. I'll have to find this to watch, it looks good and I'm a sucker for Anime that are about RPGs.

Though I still need to find March Comes in....Season 2 (not as good as season 1) Mr Tonegawa (not really good) and Ouran High School (okay, not the legendary anime of legend, that i expected) The are also a few recent additions on Netflix i need to check out, like Darwin's Game, Eden's Gravity, and a few of the newer movies.

83 But I loved da Schweg's

Guys pushing oversized carts with their beer bellies, baby seat full of a po-boy and cold Schwegman's beer, to be consumed while the wife loads up the cart.

Hurricane maps on the paper bags. Schwegman's bonds.

In the early '60s, there was a competitor, Nicholson's, that we visited occasionally in the area around Chalmette National Monument. I think the founder was involved in local politics for a time. I don't know how many locations they had, though.

Slime is about this middle management type who gets stabbed to death while being chivalrous. So he is reincarnated as a slime monster and has lots of adventures.

I don't recall Nicholson's, but they must have been better than Canal Villere.

We did call girls from Chalmette "Chalmatians" though (not where they could here us).

87 Ouran yeah you have to be a certain type of fan to get that show and no I never was one of them.

Tonegawa was just one cheap stunt/gag after another and it quickly wore thin.

Is Eden's Gravity a sequel to Eden's Bowery?

Not sure if I am looking forward to the Eureka Seven movie.

I legit have never heard of any of those places, and unlike Millennials, I take no pride in that. Are those grocery stores in the MidWEst?

I could talk about some old school stores in my A.O. I miss Maverick Market. It was like the Circle K in the Rio Grande Valley. That area is important to our side because it is one of the few micro regions moving Republican. I am sure the MSM are shocked, but they should not be.

It has been known for decades Texas Hispanics are not like those from CA or NY. Sure some are Dem but then again, it took a while to get Tex non Hispanics on board.

GW did pretty well with them, though he did not deserve them. The reality is Texas Hispanics are the least of our worries.

Winter is coming and I'm not sure we're ready, but at least we'll be warm.

91 The tweet in Skips link with Hulk Hogan is awesome - in addition to Andre you can see that dude who played the Russian Clunt in the background. Now we get real police in gear designed for the movies.

No it's not a sequel to Eden's Bowery, mostly because i got the name wrong... it's actual Eden Zero (i must have seen something else with gravity)

A Eureka Seven movie? Is it tied to the original? Or the sequel? Our something totally different? I loved the first half of the original, hated the second half when Eureka tried to fight for her spot as the worst character in anime history (watch your back Akira Oono and Nadia)

has anyone seen more homeless and beggars on the streets of America? We have supposedly never been more prosperous, we have never seen as a world less major warfare.

I thought this has to be the thing with ending broken glass policing. How can there be ten times as many homeless when our nation has never been more prosperous? I thought something was off but I no longer do. Do people think in the old days she shuttled the homeless off to some netherland?

We have beggars at every intersection. What does that show the kids? I know many are hurting for various reasons, but only a tiny percentage of them stand at intersections all day. I am not sure what to make of it. This country has changed, and the more socialist it is, the more homeless it produces.

99 Chekov D. Siberian, my older cat, is not really any better, but no worse. He's eating and moving around, but that's all. I guess this week I will have to take a vacation day to run him to the vet again.
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at September 19, 2021 03:57

Sorry to hear Chekov is still having issues. Maybe being home and a trip to the vet will settle things down.

At least you have a job to take a vacation day from. The f*cking azzholes at the Park Dist that paid me for 32 yrs, w/ an agreement w/ the Hist Soc, that went back 40 yrs, decided to eliminate my position while I was on disability leave, as soon as my IMRF protection was removed.

Cokesuckers did this just short of my full SS retirement, mine is 66 yrs, 2 mths. Ooops, do I sound resentful?

102 My dad told me a story that he got subpoena'd as a witness or something to testify in some court case in the 1960s, I've no idea what it was about, can't remember. The FBI was involved somehow in the prosecution. Some financial shit. And I never understood what exactly he was really trying to convey with the story, other than the whole thing scared the shit out of him. I think he was afraid they were trying to ensnare him or something. He was as straight laced as they come. He probably would have been a classic agent back in the day. He was good at statistics and accounting.

103 Samsung's Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is a quarter the price, and is a perfectly viable alternative if you don't care about typography.

Well, typography, but also apps that aren't cringe. Android developers, like the Feds yesterday, aren't even trying. The iPad has thousands of useful apps with a tablet specific UI, Android has mostly phone UIs scaled up.
