For months during fall, winter and spring I collected the rubber bands that came with the newspaper. Each day I took that paper's band and tossed it on top of a blade of the ceiling fan.
We didn't use the fan until summer.
First hot day sister turned on the fan. Moments later she cried out, "where are all these rubber bands coming from?"
There were 100 or so bands all over the living room.

April Fools Day, 1985: I sent a co-worker in the Fed Civil Service a fake Personnel Action Notice through the office mail, that reduced his GS Grade from 13 to 11. Big pay cut. Everyone in our work section was aware of what I planned. He believed it. He looked so devastated that after a few minutes the guy at the next desk had to tell him it was fake. The joke target was a good friend but he almost choked me to death a few minutes later. No risk, no fun!

In the Navy, was on a ship that carried Marines. Dressed up in HAZMAT suits and went into a berthing area for the Marines. (basically, a big room with a lot of racks (beds stacked 3 high)). Lots of Marines standing around, laying in racks, etc.
Had device rigged up so that it beeped. Went through the room tracing along a pipe. Pushed button that made beeping get louder / faster. Ran out of room.

At any rate, I took the damned test, signed the waiver that says they can send my personal information and test results to the State and Municipality, and it took nearly 2 hours in line to do so, only one hour of which I was paid for, plus mileage I will never recoup, all so I don't get fired by people who could not give one tinker's dam about me or my situation.
I'm drinking, heavily.
With my luck, the test won't get back in time for Monday and I will be canned anyway for being in breach of the rules.

A guy I knew pranked a friend and coworker that had just bought an economy car. This was before the age of hybrids and teslas, in the mid 90s.
So the guy, we'll call him Al, started siphoning fuel INTO this guy's new economy car. Al knew where the new car guy lived and where he parked the car. He did this for weeks. The new car guy started bragging at work about how he got one of those super-efficient cars with a new kind of engine. All kept it up for two months. The new car guy had started talking about conspiracies from big oil and how when the news of these new engines like his comes out there'll be wars. He probably only filled up once during that time.
So after that two-month span Al stopped adding fuel. And then started siphoning fuel out. The new car guy took his car into the shop and they said nothing was wrong. The new car guy then told everyone he had to keep quiet about everything because big oil had found out and his life could be in danger.
To be honest all of Al's practical jokes eventually seem like psychological torture.

Well, it's come to that. My peripheral vision to the left has been poor to non-existent after a stroke several years ago, and I recently realized that my depth perception has (excuse me) totally sunken.
I will keep my license for purposes of identification, but I'll be giving my car to my middle sister, who needs one. Fortunately these days, almost everything is available on-line, even if one must resort to Amazon (yeah, I know, but ...).
Sorry if any of you think I'm just wimping out, but I truly think this is the sensible thing for me to do.

Fastest and also cheapest remedy is to take the gun to a gunsmith and ask if he can chase the mag tube threads using a die. Then buy a new end cap and try it.
If the threads cannot be 'repaired' ask the gunsmith to cut-off the tube end just enough to get back to one or two good threads, or to plain tube, then cut new threads. I do not know how much can be cut-off without reducing shell capacity.

There are pamphlet missals that are good and inexpensive from the Latin Mass Society. They won't have the changeable parts of the Mass, but those are available all over the net.
The Magnificat folks are starting a monthly magazine for the TLM called Benedictus. I tried a copy and liked it a lot.

I'm not sure it's the best one, but it's the one that came to mind.
Back when I cooked in a small bar and grille, there was a waitress that used to take a fry off of people's plates in the kitchen to munch on or a tortilla off of a plate of nachos. We call it 'grazing' in the restaurant business.
In any event, generally I tell people they have arrived as a professional server when they can finish chewing before they arrive at the table. And walking through the dining room chewing, while not appearing to be chewing, is a definite skill.
So one night, I placed a nacho chip strategically in the pile on the plate, knowing it would be the one she pulled out of the pile, and placed a drop of a super hot habanero extract we had called 'Da Bomb' on that chip. Sure enough, she snatched it, popped it in her mouth and proceeded out of the kitchen with the order in hand.
She arrived back in the kitchen 90 seconds later cursing and grabbing a glass of water with tears coming down her cheeks. The whole kitchen staff was rolling laughing knowing she had to straight-face it at the table with her mouth was on fire

What would kind of diabolical: don't un-air the tires; just remove all 4 valve caps, and replace them with "prepared" valve caps. Drill a hole in each valve cap, thread through a length of 40-pound test nylon fishing line, and tie a half-inch nut in the other end of the line. Screw on prepared cap, hide nut beneath, or under wheel. Victim drives off, and the nuts start slapping the Hell out of his wheel wells.

Rural ER, not crowded at all, no ambulances or helicopters arrived during the entire TEN HOURS we were there, they made him sit there in a waiting room wearing a mask and hold a cup of his own piss for over an hour, and then his "treatment" lasted about five minutes, during which they gave him some Ibuprofen and sent him home. Lots of staff, none of them busy. Apparently, many important TikTok videos had to made.
Worst part of story and main reason I'm angry: there's a security guard in the waiting room, on a raised dais. He's a shit-tub whose Mom apparently got him everything he wanted from 5.11 for Christmas. He sat there like a warden, staring at people. I got up to go pee. I'm not intimidating, just an average middle-aged guy. He looked at me, and put his hand on his gun. He put. His hand. On. His. Gun.
I was unarmed per hospital policy. I would have gladly shot that sonofabitch.

Gooo-oo-ooooolly. His other prank was pouring a gallon of milk under someone's desk, after work, right before Christmas break. So it could sit and curdle for two weeks. Shazam! Again all of this guy's pranks seemed like psychological torture.
The funniest story was he had us over for drinks and to show us his new bar glasses. Made out of that super tempered glass just like the bars have. Probably five minutes of explaining the effects of tempering and how that changes the structure and how these glasses will withstand anything. Look how thick the base is!! he said. He suddenly takes a glass and slams it down on the counter. CHHHARACK! Broken glass everywhere.

As the magic moment approaches, I whisper to my 15 year old niece to go get by the breaker box and wait for us all to yell Happy New Year. She gets it, slips out of the room. Few minutes later, countdown complete, everybody yells, and *Clack*, all the power goes out.
I thought my sisters husband was gonna come unglued. " Oh My GOD!" It's the freaking apocalypse. She just let it hang there for a few seconds then turned the power back on. Very funny.

Cobalt60 contamination of steel is common if the scrap used for feedstock in steel plants isn't monitored correctly. There was a large group of apartments in Taiwan that used cobalt60 contaminated steel. 10,000 people lived in these buildings over 9-20 year periods. They all received a large incremental radiation dose as a result. And there was a noticeable difference in cancer deaths among the population in comparison to Taiwan as a whole. That difference being they had lower cancer mortality rates.
There's a hypothesis "radiation hormesis" that states that while larger radiation dosage increments above background are known to have detrimental effects in humans, with increased cancer deaths being a result there are some low-level increments that are believed to cause just enough small degradation that it stimulates higher cellular repair activity thus guarding against and some cancers and repairing oxidative stress. Kind of like a cancer/toxin vaccine. Nothing to do with chemo.

Maybe upscale places like hospitals have the equivalent of a waiter who comes to your seat in the lobby and provides recommendations as you peruse the menu. Which, being a nice hospital, was printed on decent paper and presented to you in a nice little leather booklet.

Drove up to the shop door with the trailer with my buddy's car on it, and welded up a rust hole in the "A" pillar, that was revealed when he took the front clip off it. That turned out pretty nice.
Drove to the next town, and returned some incorrect parts to the NAPA store.
And came back home, and chipped the last of the tar undercoating off the dune buggy floor pan. A quick wipe with solvent, and it ought to be ready for paint. Well, after I weld the jacking points back on, I guess.

Well, when I worked as a welder, the bus that powered the welders had an on/off switch that was out of sight of the welder. The guy struck an arc, then, when he stopped, I turned off the main to his mig welder. I could hear the guy banging on his mig welder, etc., so, I turned the welder back on. This went on for a minute or two before I stopped or, he figured out something was going on. Don't remember which.

China was smart--they got the world hooked on cheap consumer goods produced in their factories so nobody can risk the domestic backlash from calling them out. I wouldn't count this one as done though because I could totally see someone like India doing their own investigation, getting ripshit pissed at what they find, and organizing a new non-aligned movement to tell China to get bent. I too dislike my new GP. Old one I had for yrs, went to him because he was a cardiologist, but he took care of everything. New doc sends me everywhere for anything, I'm gonna find someone else.
Also old doc he did edumacate me that the important number was not total cholesterol but the ratio of good to bad. So my total was 202, horrors, but my ratio was 3 which is very good.
I'm not impressed w/ a doc that is going to whine about 2 points over, but doesn't acknowledge my overall profile is OK.

When I was in college, somebody got an English translation of Mao's "Little Red Book." I read a bit of it (couldn't get through the whole thing, too boring TBH) but I remember being struck by the fact that it wasn't as "communist" as I'd expected it to be. It had occasional passages of the usual power to the proletariat/workers unite bullshit, almost like they were added afterwards, but for the most part, it read like an extremely aggressive business plan. The parts of it that I managed to stay awake through, at least. It really was a slog.

A lot of these kids were never exposed to a lot of music we grew up with. And in the case of a lot of millennials and zoomies, anything besides rap/hip-hop would be novel to them.
Top 40 now is a whole nother animal than what Top 40 was back in the 70s and 80s.
And as far as kids from other countries, kinda a no-brainer that in some previously restrictive countries, that kids are being exposed to music and movies that are new to them.
And these kids are lamenting how much music sucks now.
