58 This looks like the artist used paints of differing densities or whatever, where when he poured one onto another they separated--like oils and watercolors. Then it looks like he threw some paint-thinner on to get some other effects. Not saying I like it or dislike it, but it is kinda interesting.

I think it is fascinating.

RANT
SO when you bring donut to the office just bring glazed! Well ok, 2 out of 12 can be chocolate glazed. Just go look in 10 minutes. At least 6 of the glazed are gone. If you bring in 6 glazed and 6 mixed. There, staring at you like the runt of the litter are the 6 mixed. Yeah someone will come get the blueberry and then the plain cake. But that funky multi topping is gonna sit there until someone gets a plate, cuts off a chunk and Mics it to make it taste better.

125 Dunkin Donuts used to do an eclair that was basically an elongated Boston Creme donut. It was the only eclair that did not disappoint.

Hoity toity places do them with rolled up croissants and then they overcook the pastry and a crunchy eclair is awful.

And then there are places that just cannot make custard. A lot of times they taste like rolled up wet newspaper. So, yeah, eclairs ultimately disappoint.

When I lived in Denver, at one job it was a rotating tradition for someone to bring in pastry on a Friday morning. I got clever and ordered a king cake shipped from Da Swamp. People looked at it kind of askance. "What's the green stuff down there?" "Food coloring on sugar. Trust me, it's not mold."

Finally someone tried a piece. It was gone by 9:15.

After the success of "Grease" in 1978, there was a marked increase in weather-related helicopter deaths. Upon further investigation of the intermittent phenomenon, NTSB investigators determined that the spike was due to people deliberately flying into thunderstorms armed with cans of aerosol vegetable oil so as to produce "greased lightning." The spike had tapered dramatically by 1982 and 1983 marked the first full year of reversion to the historical mean. The NTSB concluded its investigation in 1993, with the report being released in 1997.

They are ubiquitous in Italian bakeries around here, and they mostly suck, because people like your grandmother aren't making them fresh.

There is a bakery in NYC Little Italy that, shockingly, makes great ones. I have no idea how that happened, because most other things in Little Italy are touristy crap.

301 No one is healing. Nothing is healed. The wound Donald Trump ripped open has done nothing but fester since Scranton Joe was inaugurated.

Eight months since President Biden was sworn into office, the anticipation of a tone change and 'return to normalcy' has utterly disappeared. The man I once considered a friend and confidante has morphed into a feckless and unreliable leader I no longer recognize. He gives all the signs of stubborn cantankerous naivete, surrounded by idiotic sycophants anyone who has spent more than fifteen minutes around politics should easily recognize as the worst type of corrupt bureaucrats.

Biden's policies have broken with his rhetoric of unity to create more division and distrust. Inflation has exploded. Americans are paying more at the pump and the grocery and soon for their kids' holiday toys. The schools are supposed to be reopened, but in-person learning is inconsistent and can be pulled away with the speed of a positive test. The vaccine booster shots, which Biden promised at the beginning of the month, ran into a brick wall of FDA policy. New government mandates are testing the limits of executive power.

To me it seems like the myspace/facebook period of time when everything went downhill. That was right after the time when it was kind of a neat thing if you were able to get a gmail email address, too. Ha.

Turns out a homogenized, monopolized, carefully controlled internet full of average people is a horrible thing. Much worse than the napster, netscape, AOL internet full of average people that proceeded it.

If I could push a button and make the internet never have existed in time I would. I wouldn't even need to sleep on it. I would push the button without hesitation.

509 Top-notch technology decisions by the USPS. If you're on the tracking page and you refresh, but the service is unavailable for some reason, it displays an error message. So far, so good. The problem is that it is a straight redirect to a static outage page. If you refresh the page later, you just refresh the outage notification. There is no way to press "back" to get to the tracking page if you went to it directly.

This isn't too big a deal, but it's one of those little things that stand out. It is poor design that results in poor user experience, and it could be avoided through better error handling.

547 Today's political humor. I was listening to Mark Simone this morning who is a moderate/conservative talk show host on WOR 710 AM from NYC. He has Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels, on who is running for Mayor of NYC, but it would be almost impossible for Sliwa to win, although he's be a great choice in my opinion. Eric Adams doesn't even live in NYC which is a requirement of being Mayor. Anyway, the funny bit was Sliwa referred to Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, A O-C as "All Out Crazy", and on the hosts of the show, Len Berman said "Now I will never be able to see her name or initial without thinking "All Out Crazy". I laughed.

Because those machines are expensive and while they can be financed courtesy of rock-bottom interest rates for the blue chips, they are probably worried about taking that gamble right now because the inflated wages are transient and once the benefits run out, they can crank down on compensation. If it starts looking permanent - or if a $15+ federal minimum wage happens - this is exactly what will happen.

A major industry in Da Swamp. It's pretty much a giant cinnamon roll in the form of an oval, sprinkled with icing and with colored sugars, and nowadays available with chocolate, cream cheese, and other fillings. The tradition is that each week during the Mardi Gras season, someone brings one to a party or to the office and everybody has 1 or more pieces. If you get a piece with the little plastic baby in it, you're supposed to buy the next one.

Nowadays they put the baby on the side, afraid of people choking I guess, and you can buy the things all year round. They're good though.
