63 I like the picture in the right background. It's a Japanese scene and is very likely a print. Van Gogh, like a lot of artists at the time, was very into japonisme and loved the prints especially. He recreated a few Japanese works, and they are probably the Van Gogh works I like best.

A post-impressionist. No, really. That's the official name of the movement. These guys experimented with artistic media. The painters played with the power of color, line, forms, etc. The Impressionists were pretty realistic. The PostImpressionists began the move towards abstraction.

192 This is timely. Yesterday, the delightful and lovely Mrs naturalfake and I went to the -

"Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit" in downtown Dallas.
It was pricey at $50/ticket, however the bored and curious Mrs naturalfake was tired of being in "lockdown" so we decided to make a date out of it.
The exhibit was a multimedia interpretation of Van Gogh's art. And you know what that usually means, so I wasn't expecting much...but I was wrong!
The exhibit opened as a great commercial for "Van Gogh Pest Control Service" as cartoons and flies and cicadas crawled over self-portraits of Van Gogh.
Then next we had Vincent Van Gogh Presents: "Carnival of Souls" as ugly painted heads floated around with spooky music.
The we came to the Educational Section: Did you know Van Gogh had a very short "Japanois" period? Neither did I.
There upon followed ads for Van Gogh's All-Natural Sandwich Bread.
Van Gogh's Herbal Cough Drops, and then
an ad for "Nightqyi, Nightime Cough Medicine" from Van Gogh Therapuetics.
All in less than 30 mins! (though to be fair it seemed much longer).
If you know nothing about Van Gogh's art and wish to keep it that way, visit "IVGE"

279 Well, it got so that every piss-ant prairie painter who thought he could use a brush would ride into town to try out the Zundert Kid.

I must have rendered more men than Cecil B. DeMille. It got pretty gritty. I started to hear the word "draw" in my sleep. Then one day I was just walking down the street, when I heard a voice behind me say, "Reach for it, mister!" I spun around, and there I was face-to-face with a six-year-old kid. Well, I just threw my brushes down and walked away.

Little bastard shot me in the ass! So I limped to the nearest salon, crawled inside an absinthe bottle, and I've been there ever since.

There is no "we" when it comes to the law, or matters of the state, any longer. It's just a bunch of crazed psychopaths, grifters, and demented wack jobs running everything, or near enough. Story Headline on DailyMail this morning:

Thousands of Haitian migrants who flocked to Del Rio were already working and living comfortably as refugees in CHILE and only set off for the US after Biden scrapped Trump-era deportation policy
_________

From the stories I've read, they were all living as refugees in either South America (Chile, Argentina, etc.) or Mexico.

They came here because there's more "free" shit here.

Not because they were "fleeing violent gangs" or "living in desperate poverty in Haiti" or whatever other bullshit nonsense the Dims are flinging about.

Just wanted more "free" shit. Courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer.

This is usually tied to how much money you want to spend on an attorney. The attorneys that big companies can afford (especially for high stakes litigation) will have well-put-together written submissions.

Individuals usually can't afford paying a legal team $1000+ an hour. And attorneys save money by re-using old materials. Also, attorneys used to handling smaller matters (in, say state court) are typically better on their feet in court than in their written documents. Writing things well takes time, and works against the economics of a small firm or solo.

354 Even West Virginias most beloved song is based on an afternoon ride on Clopper Road... In MARYLAND. The Greasemans schtick on WV were always classic.

355 If you don't know how to wash wool, it will shrink. And fishermen would wear wool.

Also, it's possible to make a cabled sweater that is not thick and bulky. I did a cardigan like that for my husband. Might still be too hot for Louisiana but it's not bulky.

356 Good, Diogenes has awakened, scratched and looked around. I can leave now that he's here. Or I can wait 'til he finds his coffee.
Posted by: Muldoon at September 23, 2021 09:48 AM

Yeah, I slept in a bit today.
Coffee is suitable...the Keurig has done it's job.
You are dismissed.

357 If you like dark and disturbing, try Goya.

Or Felicien Rops.

359 If I can wear my Russian ushanka when it drops into the negatives, there's no hat you can't wear in Texas.

I have several cream-colored Open Road-style hats, the style LBJ used to wear (though he preferred Resistols). The style was not only a Stetson staple; all the hatmakers once upon a time had their own version: moderate brim, cattleman crease, a thin matching-color ribbon around the base of the crown and another binding the edge of the brim. The hat that made you look not like the cowboy who worked on the ranch, but like the guy who *owned* the ranch.

I never see those hats in real life. Even when someone is sporting a cowboy look around here, they never wear an Open Road, just those big wide-brimmed hats. Maybe it's different in some parts of the West.

IIRC that was the Mass Bay Colony before anyone had statehood.

Robert Caro's LBJ bio claims that Johnson would throw out his hat from his departing helicopter during the 1948 Senate race, and then have an advance man run out into the crowd to retrieve it. "You know how much those hats cost, Bobby?!"

369 "but licoln violated the Constitution and made WV out of existing parts of Virginia because no one would stop him."

I mean, some people DID try to stop him on a couple issues and it didn't really go well after that. Never try to interfere when ol' Abe's got a head on, I always say.

The last person you want in a position of public trust is a closeted fag. All the flightiness and unseriousness of the out-and-proud fag, but also wide-open to blackmail.
