Special GAINZZZ Make-Up Thread

I just covered this, but the CDC has a new study out confirming the same finding: childhood obesity has been rising for a long time, but it really accelerated during the Years of Imprisonment during lockdown mania.

A new study ties the COVID-19 pandemic to an "alarming" increase in obesity in U.S. children and teenagers.

Childhood obesity has been increasing for decades, but the new work suggests an acceleration last year -- especially in those who already were obese when the pandemic started.

The results signal a "profound increase in weight gain for kids" and are "substantial and alarming," said one of the study's authors, Dr. Alyson Goodman of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It's also a sign of a vicious cycle. The pandemic appears to be worsening the nation's longstanding obesity epidemic, and obesity can put people at risk for more severe illness after coronavirus infection.

You do notice, don't you, that exercise can make people more resilient to covid, but the government and CDC never want to talk about that, because that would require you leave your homes periodically?

The CDC on Thursday released the study, which is the largest yet to look at obesity trends during the pandemic.

It found:

--An estimated 22% of children and teens were obese last August, up from 19% a year earlier.

--Before the pandemic, children who were a healthy weight were gaining an average of 3.4 pounds a year. That rose to 5.4 pounds during the pandemic.

--For kids who were moderately obese, expected weight gain rose from 6.5 pounds a year before the pandemic to 12 pounds after the pandemic began.

--For severely obese kids, expected annual weight gain went from 8.8 pounds to 14.6 pounds.

The rate of obesity increased most dramatically in kids ages 6 to 11, who are more dependent on their parents and may have been more affected when schools suspended in-person classes, the researchers said.

You don't say.

You. Don't. Say.

Oh well, at least we kept the nation's most precious resource -- the teachers -- safe and sitting on their asses at home. Or in Aruba.

And obesity, and even just normal overweight-ness, really increases the chances of getting a serious or even deadly case of covid. 78% of those who died from covid were obese or just overweight.

The obesity rate is 42%, and I guess the % who are overweight but not obese would add another, what, 20%? So the 78% figure isn't as startling as it first seems, but carrying extra pounds does elevate risks of death from covid. It's a major reason why the relatively young would die from it.

A more recent study, out this past August, re-confirms that.

The government really should be advising Americans to get some GAINZZZ. But they won't, because 1, the obese have a lobby and that lobby is leftwing and therefore "counts" in the government's eyes, and 2, because they don't want people going to gyms or to parks or to the beaches.

They want them sitting at home consuming Netflix and ordering bullshit off Amazon.

Only the Sophisticated, Vaccinated Crowds can go outside. Only the Unmasked Elite may go dancing at Obama's birthday bash and pose on the red carpet the Met Gala.

The Russia outlet RT.com discusses this issue; Lord knows you won't find many American ones disputing Lord God Emperor Fauci.

[T]he evidence is overwhelming that obesity is associated, more than any other factor besides age, with poor outcomes in Covid-19 patients. Data from around the world has demonstrated and quantified that truth since the first half of 2020, relatively early in the pandemic. Medical leaders in positions of authority and influence, most significantly Anthony Fauci, publicly recognized this fact as soon as it became clear, which leads to an important question.

Why have those same medical leaders said virtually nothing about obesity in the last 18 months?

...

Dr. Fauci is a media fixture these days, lecturing the public about everything from masks and lockdowns to social distancing and vaccine boosters. Early this year, Forbes declared that America's obesity crisis needs its own "Dr. Fauci" to help fight it; one must wonder why the actual Dr. Fauci isn't doing so.

...

This failure to address a major preventable factor in Covid mortality is a failure of public health policy and its leaders, and it's a failure that has cost lives.

...

The benefits of using the immediacy of the Covid pandemic to address America's obesity problem are clear, but ironically, it almost seems that authority figures, public policies, and social phenomena have actively opposed efforts to stay physically fit.

A policeman chases a runner jogging on an empty beach without a mask.

A New Jersey gym is harassed by the state.

Krispy Kreme offers free donuts by the dozen to healthcare providers. (When I stopped by last year, dubious, I was told I could have up to five dozen donuts free. I did not take home five dozen donuts.)

Citizens by the millions have been obligated by their governments to stay home, watching streaming services or playing video games, ordering processed, calorie-dense delivery junk food. Months upon months of behavioral habits won't disappear soon or without effort; the obesity rates keep rising.

The irony would be almost comical, were the consequences to health and life not so dire.

...

One can only speculate why the supposed generals in the war against the coronavirus will barely mention the deadly saboteur of obesity. Perhaps they fear the ire of 'Health at Every Size' proponents or the risk of offending a demographic that currently includes almost three-quarters of America. Maybe fomenting the public's anger at strangers unmasked in the local grocery store, rather than recommending the tough introspection and behavioral changes needed to combat excess weight, individual by individual, is a policy path too low-effort to pass up. Whatever the reason, it's apparent we must ourselves resolve to tackle our collective weight problem.

I have low GAINZZZ this week. I've kept up with my walking/sprinting schedule but am only managing to occasionally attempt the 100 push up challenge.

What about you guys? How are yo' GAINZZZ?

And as usual, do you have BOOKZZZ to recommend or PROJECTZZZ or PLANZZZ to brag about?

Ben & Jerry's is unveiling a new, policing and public safety-inspired ice cream flavor: Change is Brewing.

The flavor, revealed Monday at an event at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., was created in support of legislation that Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) introduced in June, the People's Response Act.

Bush, who was on hand as the latest ice cream offering made its debut, has said her bill would establish a public safety division within the Department of Health & Human Services for a "health-centered approach" to public safety.

17 Gainz: I've been slowly building up my running speed, so I'm down to a 9min mile, which is an improvement over the past year or so. Still don't run more than about a 1.5 miles at a time, since I'm trying to avoid the foot injuries that cause problems for about a year a decade ago.

Down to 228, slowly losing the weight.

Skillz: I signed up for membership with a woodworking shop and try to go twice a week and use the lathes. Just making candlesticks and boxes and little stuff like that, but it lets me work with my hands which is a nice change of pace. Still practicing the violin, but I really need to find a teacher so that I can get some direction with it. I would love to learn a few tango pieces.

Bookz: Just used some birthday money to order Python for Data Analysis as a project to build up my skillz so I can find a different job at some point. Also ordered a book of DiffEq problems so that I can start learning that in my spare time.

20 I mentioned this on the book thread Sunday, but since it is a legitimate GAINZZ: I have finished my new Theda Bara novel!

It's a happy and sad occasion for me. Happy, because it's done and now I can get it out to sell, but sad because it took me 20 years to get to this point, and I ought to have written at least two other books by now.

So my PLANZZZ right now are doing an edit (I'm up to chapter 6 of 15) and, with luck, by the end of this week send it out to some fellow Morons who have been kind enough - or desperate enough, depending on how you look at it - to read it and give me some feedback.

Then it's on to rewrites, a final polish and then. . .I don't know whether to approach a publisher or just go straight to Amazon, like my other books. There are positives and negatives in either choice. If Amazon, I hope to have it out for the holidays. If a publisher, then God only knows.

Still, yay me!

51 I can actually post GAINZ for a change.

Did keto about three years ago with good success, getting from just over three bills down to 260 in about nine weeks.

Then my wife was diagnosed with celiac, and that marginalized our grocery budgeting, and my focus (being the one who meal plans for the household). So my intentions went out the window, and over the course of the last two years I slowly put it all back and some more.

End of August, wife came to me and said, "you had real success on keto, didn't you? I'm tired of feeling like trash even eating what they say is right."

Next week, I did a starter course for her just to get her mindset changed, and went full course

Down 20 lbs. I hadn't even seen a pound come off since we got a recumbent bike in May with four aerobic sessions a week. And energy level is beginning to really come back in earnest.

If I'd tried to sell her on it after the diagnosis it would have never been taken. But this is awesome since I can build the menu easily with both of us in mind, not just her.

56 look I realize covid is real and it has hurt a lot of people. I am kind of alone some how I see things might be different than some people. I know this has been going on almost two years and to be honest, i have been doing pretty much the same thing the entire time. I might contract the virus, or maybe I already did but didn't know it. The key is I have been doing the same thing for two years, but really a Hell of a lot longer time than that.

I wanted to be afraid but i never was. I didn't see what I was supposed to be afraid of. I understand everyone is in a different situation, and mine is just mine. I never felt fear because it seemed so obscure to me. I did find out a cousin spent five days in a hospital because of Covid. I just learned that recently and that was the only personal experience with it.

My main project next year is to plot out (and, I hope, start) the next TB book as well as a short story, so that would be a good time for me to start a simple beginner's idiot keto diet. I could stand to lose 20 pounds, frankly, though 30 would be a dream.

65 And the earlier you put on the weight, the more likely your health and longevity will be affected. It is very difficult, almost impossible, for most people to take off weight. The longer they've been overweight the harder it is and the less likely the person will feel the need as they've grown accustomed to the weight and the body issues.

I've seen some babies less than a year old who are fat. I cannot believe they're being overfed by the parents. I still say there is more to the epidemic of obesity than low exercise and too much to eat. I think there is a "what you eat" component that is not being examined because the Food industry does not want that disclosed.

I don't mean calorie wise or fat to protein. I mean in the ingredients the chemicals that are used to prepare the calories in the form selected. I truly feel in my bones that there is a point in time where the food industry switched to using some item almost universally for preservation or taste or feel or some other reason for production and that that additive has made us more at risk to gain fat cells. Maybe just making food addictive would do it. If they added that to food and no one knew.

I've been trying to eat a lot more yogurt lately. Also got myself some bananas and raisin bran. I really want and need to get myself regular again.

If all else fails I guess I can go with something like Align, it's just that it's so expensive.

71 I dropped 50 pounds Ace a year or so ago. It might have started during the pandemic but I didn't time it like that. If people ask how,I am not sure I can say exactly. Rule number one is a gave up snacking.

Other than that, it was low carb or lower carb. It was intermittent fasting as well. It wasn't one diet really but those were the two main things. For sure I stopped eating sugar as a normal thing. I never gave up anything in toto, I just don't think that is healthy. You have to at least have the idea you can eat whatever, but rarely.

I guess if the waist size increases I can try total keto again. But for now, things seem stable.

I figure that's why he went into the area where he could off himself and never be found thus making it a mystery and not a crime.

It's probably as simple as a shot to her head and she falls badly or down a cliff and dies. And now he knows he'll get blamed and arrested and life in jail. And yes he hit another person but perhaps it was not intended. Some people love to push other peoples buttons. Esp. if in the past they've maintained but got very mad. There a plenty of people like that and they find partners that will respond. It goes both ways. It's suspected that spousal abuse is fairly equal. Just that since men are stronger when they react they do more damage. Whereas women tend to inflict emotional pain.

And has been said; it's really not about the white girl it's about the toxic white male that's the story they want to tell and tell and tell.

110 16:8 IF means intermittantly fasting for sixteen hours each day, and only eating during an eight hour window. I usually don't eat until one or two pm and stop eating by 8 or 9pm.

That gives you 16-18 hours of fasting, which allows your insulin levels to fall and thus allows you to burn fat for energy.

130 Hi Ace, I'm a lurker who will decloak for a minute - you were the one that got me into IF back about five years ago when you linked some videos of the Hodge twins. I lost some weight but eventually lost focus. Back in April of this year, I refocused and I went from 315lb to 238lb today, with an end goal of 190lb. OMAD is generally my schedule, but if I plateau, I'll throw in a 2-day, or 4-day fast. It is so easy now, sometimes I'll get to the end of the day when I'm supposed to eat and realize I never did, and just do a 2-day fast by accident. Exercise-wise, I walk 2 miles every morning. That's it! Oh, and my favorite part - I eat whatever the hell I want to! I eat pizza, corn dogs and tator tots, Quarterpounder with fries, whatever. Best of all - my blood work is excellent! Every measurable is great, my doctor loves what I'm doing. Anyway, I really appreciate you posting that years ago - total game-changer!

136 I eat whatever i want, whenever i want. That's the losing fight. The winning fight is not to want to eat certain things at certain times. That's a mindset change rather than a discipline test. There are different ways of doing it. It's one reason i don't do low-carb (i don't do hi-carb), fast, or restrict my eating to certain times: the fight is not worth it. If i really want a plate of spaghetti, which i really like, even though i don't eat it often, i'm gonna fcking have spaghetti. But no-sugar sauce, noodles with extra protein or something besides wheat, mushrooms, onions, garlic, and peas.

Perhaps it was such a large amount she puked most of it up. All I could say was the world is so crazy that I'm kind of relieved not to have kids. What with the FNM and the NEA trying to make them crazy with "you have to humor the crazy loon dude that thinks he is a girl" and other BS, and then the last 20+ months of covid fear porn, that is a lot for kid to have to hande.

Exercise-wise, I walk 2 miles every morning.

well done!

I'm trying to get back into good form as far as habits. After the long semi-fast I did, I ate freely for a while, and have had a bit of trouble getting back into good habits.

I believe Fauci actually died early in his career, gangbanged to death in a gay bathhouse orgy.

This was covered up due to the poor optics by Big Homo, and he was replaced with a reasonable look-alike.

That person of course was not a physician so Fake Fauci just parots whatever he is told to. Unfortunately he has a team of handlers and they don't always get their messages straight, which explains the incredibly bizarre twisting in the wind of his pronouncements.

Thanks, Big Homo!

Obesity is directly related to somewhere around 20% of all deaths IIRC.

After watching the events of the last two years I now firmly believe there have been effective weight-loss RX medications discovered over the last 50 years, but they are smothered in the cradle because it would devastate the sickness industry.

I would almost guarantee that there are benign and perfectly safe medicines with the side effect of weight loss, but we can't prescribe those because off-label. Now here's some gabapentin. Yes I know you don't have epilepsy, shut up.

Keep that medical industry rolling.

I think it's something like "opportunistic omnivore". Once upon a time we were not omnivores. We have undergone some changes and one of them was there being great plenty and then great lack.

Our bodies are still in that mode. We store fat and will store fat whenever the opportunity arises because that was a winning strategy for the organism a long time ago.

Our larger brain enabled us to direct our lives and as such see relationships and act on them that other animals did not or could not.

What one needs to replicate is the fasting, gorging (not puking gorging just satiation). Fasting was unavoidable. Gorging was as opportunity arose. One reason for the Troop form of "herd" is that more area in search of food can be covered. That is how scarce food was/is in nature. Observe/read about how most animals survive in the wild and how much effort they put into feeding themselves and their offspring. And they have a top predator to watch out for; US!

NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) is used for overdoses, including Tylenol. It's a powerful antioxidant that the FDA wants to ban. I just heard about it recently and bought a couple of bottles.

Supposedly it can detoxify your guts. It gives quite the headache, let me tell you. That's how you know it's working, they say. Another supposedly powerful detoxifier is Oregano Oil. This is the stuff you use when you want Good Bacteria and to get rid of Bad Bacteria in your intestines.

I learned, a bit late, that when you use any type of detoxifier, you need yet another supplement to get the crud in your system to expel -- Activated Charcoal, for instance.

"Kill Off" is when the toxins in your system release their poison while you're killing them, or something like that. It makes you feel lousy. The Charcoal coats acts as sort of a sponge to pick up the toxins and poop them out.

The rabbit hole of Supplements never ends. You need This, and you need That, and you need This for That, and so on. My kitchen countertop is full of bottles of supplements.

251 One thing I found recently is that if you feel energetic you will be energetic.

Till lately my arthritis was dragging me down. Last year I had an infarction. A minor one which they fixed with couple stents. Since then my energy levels have gone up and with some exercise and stretches my arthritis is less debilitating. So I also take caffeine by capsule. That way I can regulate better how much I take it as using coffee or cola is a crap shoot on how much i get and I usually get the shakes and heart rhythm problems but the capsule doesn't do that to me. It just makes me feeling more energetic.

This is now my regimen but I have to remind myself to take one every day or so. And since I'm taking a lot of other stuff, I forget.

It does work tho.

If there's an AO near you, you must check it out. I have been overweight almost my entire adult life, and in the past year since discovering F3, I've reeversed all of that. I'm about ten pounds away from no gut, I can run (ugh, running!), lift, and do more than I ever thought I'd do. And the organization is free, and you're likely to be surrounded by like-minded men who also want to improve their lives and the communities around them.

And my results aren't excessive. I'm probably a bottom performer in my area, but I've got young kids at home, and try to maximize time with them.

I feel good about that and about tracking my calorie intake. I don't eat salty snacks like chips anymore. This month is tricky since it's a milestone - 145 - and I don't think I'll make it. I have scheduled a meeting with a tattoo artist on Thursday to get my first (and only) tattoo; the image came to me in a dream years ago and resurfaced again. it's a message. Still enjoying my part time job. Hoping to focus more on my personal writing but uneven results so far. But I did cut loose an acquaintance who kept sending me Orange Man Bad emails. Felt great. Hope to lose another 8 pounds and meet a nice fella. Both seem equally impossible right now.

On the personal gainezzzz front, I've finally finished concreting and painting my basement walls, filling floor cracks and other general maintenance after our Henri & Ida flooding. I put my weight bench back and finally realized how crappy it was probably made (thing is 25 years old) so I fully expect it to collapse on me any day now. I should buy a new and better one, but my floor is so uneven, and better ones have tubular frames or long base feet/bars, so I don't think I'd ever be able to level it, plus I don't has see the height, or woodworking skills (despite how much I've level them up by crafting!) To build a base so that everything is even. Though if anyone knows a good bench/ squat rack that's not wallet busting, maybe I'll see what i can do.

Well, she's been a member of the church since December, but this was the first time she came to the group and we were happy to see her; She needs a little extra support since the death of her brother last week.
He was the last one in her immediate family left.

It's interesting to look at the CDC numbers by age. 0-18 is something like 500 over the last two years, and then they lump 19 year olds in with IIRC 49 year olds. Slight difference there, guys. Anyway, even those numbers are bigly less than the 50-70 and 70-90 numbers.

319 I'm not fat, however I've been getting some knee issues lately, and-

from what I've read your joints, particularly your knees, are designed to best work with your weight when you stop growing. Which for most p[eople is roughly 22 years old.

So, my recent goal has been to get down to or closely approximate my weight at 22.

It's been working pretty well with eating less, exercising more, and drinking straight booze instead of cocktails. Most of which contain a lot of sugar.

I hit a stall, but suddenly broke through it this week for whatever reason. I have no idea. Anyway the quest continues!

I hope you have luck with your writing. My personal recommendation (and take it for what it's worth) is to write every day if you can (you can do M-F if you like) and get one page done. Even if you don't like it, it's still a page you didn't have before, and doing it every day keeps the writing 'muscles' in shape.

362 The main thing is to just get out there and be active. Take a walk, go for a bike ride (more pedaling, less coasting), play some basketball or some other sport you enjoy.

I've said it before, I will say it again: Walking is one of the most underrated forms of exercise there is. You can up the ante by walking to the store and carrying your bags of groceries back, climbing stairs you come across during the walk, dropping and knocking out pushups or passing by a park swing and grabbing he cross bar and doing some pullups.

You don't need a gym membership to get in great shape, just have to be motivated and get up off the couch and do it.
