Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant![]() LEARNING FROM CHAIRMAN MAO Traditionally, conservatives don't want to fight. They want to sit around a table and discuss ideas. The belief is that the superior ideas will win out over the inferior ones, and those are the ones that will be implemented. So how's that been working out for us? Mining the Maoist Playbook is an interesting article JJ Sefton linked to a week or so ago that discusses why Mao Zedong lost to the nationalist Kuomintang (KMT) in the first Chinese Civil War, Namely, they had concentrated their efforts on taking the densely-populated urban areas, which turned out to be a failure. So the CCP had to retreat back out to the countryside and come up with a new plan. It is in this context that a young Mao wrote a letter called “A Single Spark Can Start A Prairie Fire,” criticizing “certain pessimistic views” within the CCP, and laying out his strategy “to build the confidence of the masses toward the nationwide revolution.” Mao argued that the CCP’s strategy should be the establishment of “base areas,” described by Harvard scholar Tony Saich as “mini-states to be consolidated and to provide a developmental model superior to the corrupt nationalist regime with its capital in Nanjing.” From there, the CCP would fight a “people’s war” of maintaining local support, drawing the enemy (from the urban areas) into the rural countryside territory (and away from supply lines), and bleed them out. In short, the CCP would fight where it, not the enemy, was strong, gradually accumulate power, and then later expand outwards. So, in other words, do not attack the enemy where he is strong, but make him attack you where you are strong. This sounds like something Sun Tzu could've written. How this is applicable to us? Well, our "base areas" are obviously the red states. Progressive-run cities and states are where we are not strong, but, on their other hand, their mayors and governors are really bad at their jobs, completely incompetent, and their failures are manifest to anyone who has eyes can see the large numbers of Americans fleeing the coastal progressive blue states for Texas, Florida, Idaho, etc. So this suggests a "bottom up" rather than "top down" approach. We have spent far too much time and money trying to elect national-level officials and getting conservative judges on the federal bench. Especially that last item. We have devoted incalculable time, effort, and money to put constitutional justices on the bench, and it simply hasn't paid off. Yes, there have been some successes, but there have been far too many misfires, failures, and out-and-out betrayals. I think concentrating so much effort on the judiciary has been conservatives' biggest mistake over the last forty years. The progressives were simply fighting a completely different war, one we could not understand and could never hope to win. What the American conservative movement needs right now is not more DC-based journalists, podcasters/commentators, Congressional staffers, and the like, all competing for the same set of DC-pipeline fellowships programs. The real battle in the coming future is to be fought at the state level, and not in Washington, DC. Numerous adjustments in educational content and professional development program structure will be necessary. The first item on our agenda is that we need to stop sending money to The Heritage Foundation, Cato, AEI, NRO, etc. Because they're useless. Whatever purpose they've served in the past is long gone. Rather than send them cash, we should just put the cash into a big pile and set it on fire. It would at least keep us warm for a few minutes. You should read the entire article. The author has some interesting ideas on things that we could implement that build on our strengths rather than rely on quixotic charges at DC windmills. And we need to realize that this is going to take years, decades to get to the endgame. After all, Mao's success is known as the Long March, not the Short March. And I think some of this is happening now. Check out the start of this this tweet thread from this progressive reporter: BREAKING: We found 1000s of Trump supporters taking over local GOP positions — an unprecedented grassroots groundswell devoted to Trump’s insistence that the 2020 election was stolen & Republicans need to stop that from happening againThings like this make me happy. You can almost smell this guy's flop-sweat: "OMG, they're using the democratic process to elect people I don't like to implement policies I don't agree with -- and now I want to go into my room and curl up in a fetal position for the rest of my life." And that's another thing: left-wingers are prone to irrationality, mental instability, and mental illness. A lot of havoc could be spread by a reverse-Moby campaign ("say, have you heard that Joy Reid came out as a Trump supporter?") We should be on social media gaslighting them silly. Bonus: One sub-tweet claimed that Republicans are "violently taking over local boards of everything" and when he was challenged to provide evidence of 'violence', he linked to this piece about a 'Freedom Rally' where no violence had actually happened, just strong language. If you listen to progressives, you'd think that guys wearing MAGA hats were going to school board meetings and holding them up at gunpoint. Seriously, these progressive idiots are completely unhinged. But I digress... My main point is, we should not shy away from learning from rat bastard commies. Just because they're rat bastard commies doesn't mean everything they say is worthless. Mao is one example, Saul Alinsky is another (just ask James O'Keefe), and perhaps even Fidel Castro. They may be rat bastard commies, but they were successful rat bastard commies, not in their economic and social ideas, which stunk, but in getting to the point where their ideas could be implemented. So they're getting stuff done, and what have we been doing? Going on Weekly Standard cruises and hanging out with Bill Kristol on the lido deck. Ahoy! Here in CO, we had a rare instance where there was a full-court press and conservatives "took over" a couple of school-boards (Jeffco and Douglas). What happened was instructive.
They were immediately sued to enjoin proposed changes to curricula, while NEA/CEA organized heavily-funded recalls, got them out, and plugged their cronies back into the boards. Nothing whatsoever accomplished, and it wasn't even failure theater - they just got crushed by the weight of the system. All of that civic engagement crap is a sham, and it doesn't work. Taking a local board meeting by force of arms wouldn't accomplish much, but more than that antiquated nonsense ever will. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at September 17, 2021 10:24 AM (FvCkv) 43

I would say not just Red States. The first step in Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB) is terrain analysis. A number of states are urban dominated but are mostly red. If the problem is resources, just make fewer babies until the resources support the smaller population into old age. Make half the babies until the population is halved and people leave the futuristic 1970's swinging city to go to Carousel at sixty instead of thirty. I liked the Carlos Roa article highlighted in the American Mind, but I had some problems with it after my quick read; mostly that while tactics are important - and need to be utilized more effectively - you still need to get First Principles right. The problem with conservatism is that it's been fighting a rear-guard action for decades now. When you compromise on one little ask, because it sounds 'reasonable', you've already lost the war because hedonic adaptation resets the baseline, setting you up for the next incremental compromise/defeat. Like I've said before, if we simply looked at what the conservative baseline looked like in, say, 1981, and stuck with that, we'd be so much better off than we are now.
(1/2) Posted by: Darrell Harris at September 17, 2021 10:37 AM (oqgEn) 111
The second problem I have with Roa's thesis is that when Mao was fighting in the '40s, China barely had a national news source, much less an internet. It's easy to establish an isolated foothold in the countryside when news from the cities couldn't reach there. Now, leftists control the commanding heights of media - especially social media - enabling them to remain in power in the most isolated sectors of our society.
Without a Mass Unplugging, this ain't happening. (2/2) Posted by: Darrell Harris at September 17, 2021 10:37 AM (oqgEn) 112

So, in other words, do not attack the enemy where he is strong, but make him attack you where you are strong. This sounds like something Sun Tzu could've written. How this is applicable to us? Well, our "base areas" are obviously the red states.
--- The Uniparty own the West Coast and the NE down to DC. After that their strongholds are effectively islands. This leaves the red states with a vast contiguous chunk of dirt to play with and with that comes excellent interior lines of communications so to speak. If the conservatives were to build upon this by dominating local and state politics eventually the island states would experience a population shift. Do this with the culture and the economy and suddenly being in fly over land is no longer a pejorative. Once the island states fall the national power would shift provided we get that far with out divorce or other mischief first. Dr. Malone has a group leading a charge against this, but there are others competent in the field, that say mass vaccination could make this MUCH worse, and that the vaccines suppress the natural immune system. Leftism never had a problem with going into conservative strongholds and taking them over. Religion, Sports, the Military, and now CEO's of major corporations like energy corps. Hell, even Chick-Fil-A got hijacked due to board chicanery. Texas? We still have the one-eye'd Soros puppet in office. Florida? We can't unseat Marco Rubio. We definitely have severely limited understanding of the war being waged on us.
Slate magazine's "tribute" to Norm Macdonald was cleverly veiled posthumous slam, from multiple directions. So tasteless and disgusting and yet if the average person read it they would think it was "nice". The author spoke reverently about how Norm was the consummate "bullshitter". That was the crux of the article. Of course the reality is that Norm dealt very much in *truth*, not bullshit. His essence, as with any great comic, was in fact his laser sharp read on basic truths. Not bullshit. It also mentioned in passing the brand new sexual assault charges leveled against Macdonald on twitter by unknown female comedian ghouls just hours after his death. And how the author (a YUGE fan of Norm Macdonald, of course) was "disappointed" to find out about them. And why cheaply slam a man in death? Because he was famous and didn't subscribe to the Borg mind. They will ruin you in life, and if they can't because their balls are too small, they will do it in death. They define reality. For now. It's gonna be a long war but it could be shortened considerably if we catch on. I've long said (to much eye-rolling) that the American justice system was not designed to protect victims, it was designed to protect criminals. As long as I believe that justice will be served, I'm far less likely to handle the matter myself, and will let the system work. The INSTANT I lose that faith in the system, I stop relying on it to provide any justice or recompense. That means it falls to me to right any wrong I've suffered. The danger there is that we all have different benchmarks for 'any wrong I've suffered,' and that's why we built the system in the first place - to codify what we all agree is 'wrong.' These days, the system is not only broken, it's actively working against me and mine. It SEEKS to find and punish those with whom it disagrees. Fine. That's not my preference, but fine. Mao's observation about staking out pockets of control has also been - correctly - noted as what Antifa/BLM have been up to in wresting control of areas like Portland.
They run the place; everyone knows they run the place. It's an important ideological victory as well as a tactical one. The "bottom up" approach OregonMuse is talking about here also has a bunch of natural consequences that the military, feds, and serious students of conflict have understood for years: non-lefty areas generally speaking grow the food, produce the energy, and dominate domestic transport routes and their chokepoints. THIS is what the vax passports - intended to be internal passports in general - is aimed at checkmating. You can see some of the practical effects in Australia already, where the movement controls are seriously hampering any efforts to organize against their government. Note to the wise: you are going to need a fuckton of paper maps. Mainstream online mapping services are heavily surveiled. Go to the USGS and download everything you can get your hands on. Don't forget to grab the older series: the latest topos no longer include building footprints, substations, etc. Posted by: somedood - skull mountain sherpa at September 17, 2021 10:52 AM (TZivQ) 176

Why can't we drill to the center of the Earth?
It's the thinnest of three main layers, yet humans have never drilled all the way through it. Then, the mantle makes up a whopping 84% of the planet's volume. Re: Logan's Run--
IIRC, part of the backstory of the movie (and I think the original novel) was that the computer system that made their utopia possible was breaking down, but hadn't trained anyone to do sufficient maintenance. Having Logan "run"-- i.e. try to escape and get help or at least see what was Outside-- was a novel form of fulfilling its programming of protecting its people, IMO. That being said, SF author and then-book reviewer Spider Robinson reviewed the novel, and called it "so shallow I couldn't get the soles of my feet wet." Someyear I gotta read the original trilogy and try to track down the TV show, which had some writers from the original Star Trek and some that either worked on or went to the series Dallas. It's unavoidable, and for the majority of the population based on where they live no amount of local civics work is going to hold up when things get sporty. Younger adults should not be wasting time in political theater and skylining themselves for retribution and un-personing; we need them to focus on training, preparation (area studies and logistical stuff), and where applicable making the serious investment in time required to pull their kids out of public school, which is an extreme priority. I have been advocating forever about getting involved at the local level (been doing this a while now) if you really want to make a difference. This really works.
--- It works, IF: 1.) You are in a red area. If you are in a red area, this will help slow the corrosion of your own way of life. If you are in a blue State, they'll simply crush you if somehow win an election (see my earlier post). 2.) You are ok with simply slowing down that corrosion - there are many institutions, and you can't vote for a lot of them, and they are Leftists, so they'll continue attacking by means you can't fully control. Eventually they will get their way, though it may take much longer if you fight at the polls. 3.) If you don't care about anything above the local level. Your local/state politics have no impact on the federal government. Federalism has been dead for decades. We're never taking back the national government. I'm not saying "don't get involved at your local level," but understand the limitations, which are manifold. And if you live in a Communist region, it is entirely pointless. Don't waste your precious time in this world campaigning for change where none can be made. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at September 17, 2021 11:05 AM (FvCkv) 248

It could. It would be foolish, but allocating half a trillion dollars to rebuild all non-Hydro power plants with a cookie-cutter nuclear design would do it.
I doubt they could even do this. The EPA is chock full of commies who directly communicate with eco-terrorists and tell them exactly what lawsuits and complaints to file and when. Then the EPA people escort their complaints through the system with great speed. Biden would have to basically shut down the EPA to stop this process from bogging down his construction projects. Also, I imagine there are only so many construction groups that can handle a project like a nuke plant. Posted by: bonhomme at September 17, 2021 11:11 AM (i0wNm) 269

Been saying for years that the States need to jerk their powers back from DC; that DC brings nothing to the table that the States couldn't do for themselves.
Trouble is, though, that that would mean the States would be responsible for their activities, and could no longer point to DC and whine "they made me do it." We talk about how the GOP has a legislative advantage in 27 States, but that advantage is very much like the GOP advantage that there used to be in Congress: RINOs and whiners for the most part. " everyone showing up at the Sept 18 protest wearing FBI windbreakers. i.e. make it the uniform du jour"

Here's your precedent: how did TX wind up tilting Republican? The street level. The first elective offices to go "red" were many county sheriff's offices, easy enough to do as the Dems naturally are inclined against law and order. Especially the rule of law. It went from there to the present. But you have to start small.

Mao infamously said 'power comes from the barrel of a gun'
The only way to change a progressive-socialist's mind is to blow it out. Theyve spent a century on their 'long march thru the institutions' and are ruthlessly slamming the censorship door ony any opponents, just as the Bolsheviks did 102? yrs ago. 'Our side' will not gain by using their methods, will not be allowed to and we certainly dont have 100 months much less 100 years. Mass killing is coming, just as with any Marxist revolution. The choice is will it be us or them? We've got millions with recent combat experience, tens of millions of veterans, literally 1 billion guns and a trillion rounds of ammo in our private hands. And like April 19, 1775, the fight starts when the progressives make their end play to disarm their would-be future victims. And we should kill them before they kill us. Step One for red states to get more independence is to wean themselves off the Federal funding teat.
Good luck with that one. State officials love the idea of Federal money coming in for pet projects. The Feds can print as much money as they like, and state officials don't have to raise state taxes. Posted by: MW at September 17, 2021 03:25 PM (u33s0) 320
