Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Gov. Abbot Signs Texas Voting Integrity Bill Into LawGov. Greg Abbott Tuesday signed Texas' election reform bill into law, ending a months-long political fight over the controversial legislation. Abbott, a Republican, traveled to Tyler, Texas to sign the Senate Bill 1, which repeals many of the voting measures that large cities in the state implemented amid the pandemic and overhauls the state’s mail-in voting and polling place systems. Senate Bill 1 also bars election officials from sending voters unsolicited mail-in ballot applications to voters, threatening jail time if they do so. The bill cleared the state legislature last week in its second special session. Democrats originally let the regular session expire in May, temporarily killing the bill, when they quietly left the capital in Austin and fled the state to Washington, D.C. after Abbott called the first special session days later. "One thing that all Texans can agree on is that we must have trust and confidence in our elections," Abbott said during the bill-signing ceremony. "The bill that I'm about to sign helps to achieve that goal."Stacey Abrams immediately declared herself the real governor of Texas.

While I applaud election integrity, the Democrats have already engaged in fraud without consequence, so is this really going to make any difference?
I still believe the conservatives will consistently lose ground until they figure out how to commit fraud also. also, unintended consequences: Pederast Harry Reid gets rid of filibuster, Trump appoints 100+ judges...so what are the unintended consequences here? Rep. candidates are jailed by an AG for sending sample ballots while Dem candidates send them without consequence. Posted by: Actually inside the Beltway at September 07, 2021 12:51 PM (fMhOl) 83

The pressure must be maintained. For too long, we've been satisfied by getting our guy in there, and standing by them - come what may - just so that the 'other guy' doesn't get elected. Politicians are like simple slugs; they respond to stimuli, nothing more. Abbott knows that he's a goner without his base, so he'll do what is necessary to keep it. And this was after ending straight ticket voting. It was very bizarre, how they all managed a minimum of a 100k margin. Even the county clerk, way down at the bottom, who was only appointed to the job months before, running against the former long-time, well-known clerk ... Dave in FL electronics is not at all a red herring, and was a problem before "Dominion" was a name known to people.
There is no reason for any of it, all of our elections were conducted forever until recently without any of it, those in many countries whose elections are considered very secure do not use any, for a reason. "Appearance of conflict of interest", or "appearance of impropriety", are key concepts now mostly discarded in our culture and system, with predictable results. Anything besides paper in elections quite reasonably creates lack of confidence, as it creates possibilities for the easiest kind of fraud possible, simply changing the score. Of the vital trinity - paper ballots only, one day of voting, absentees with strict security measures (as has been the norm) - paper ballots only is at least as important as the rest. Since Democrats make up the majority of bureaucrats in all Gov'ts, they'll find a way to cheat.
Sad to say what needs to be done is make into laws ways of making the vote transparent and quickly verified separately from any group made up any number of Democrats but who are unknown as they have lied or hidden their true affiliation. The voters need some way of verifying that their vote was counted correctly. Firstly a voter should get a copy of what they actually voted. I'm surprised that to this day a voter doesn't have proof that they even voted and/or what their vote was. Amazing in this digital age. Posted by: jakee308 at September 07, 2021 01:10 PM (nzLi4) 196
Laws mean nothing without people in a position of influence with the will to enforce them.
There were laws on the books in 2020. Democrats and the Deep State either illegally changed them or broke them all. There are laws on the books for immigration. No one enforces them. There are laws on the books for rioting and looting and arson. No one in Democrat cities enforces them. The 2020 election was stolen. Laws were brazenly broken. But no one in the entire country was willing to stand up to the Deep State threats. Wake me up when laws actually matter again in this country. Where is the AZ audit?
And if that audit had only to deal with paper ballots, wouldn't it have been complete a bit earlier? Aren't "server logs" and such one of the pieces they're waiting for? Why the F should an election audit have to rely on "server logs" or anything like them? (spoiler: they don't, and shouldn't have to) If one conducted an audit of a provincial election in Alberta, how many electronic artifacts would one have to contend with? 416 403 Rep. Thomas Suozzi (D-NY) said Tuesday he would not support the $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill if Democrats would not increase the state and local tax (SALT) deduction, which primarily benefits wealthy Democrat states.
Posted by: SMOD at September 07, 2021 01:38 PM (RHGPo) It forces the other states to pay for Blue state profligacy and waste. Trump nixing that was genius. Posted by: J.J. Sefton at September 07, 2021 01:39 PM (s2VJv) You no longer hear the argument that blue states support red states, now that SALT was nixed. SALT was much, much larger than any red-state bailout by the Blues. According to the EWG Farm Subsidy Database, $425 billion was paid in subsidies between 1995 and 2020. Over the next ten years, by contrast, $1.4-$1.8 trillion would be saved by getting rid of SALT. Paul Ryan (spit!) was the big shepherd of that bill in the House, so he and Trump deserve the credit for that. Posted by: Darrell Harris at September 07, 2021 01:51 PM (mdjgu) 496

EVs still strike me as "rich boy" toys, but not a practical vehicle for long distances. In town or within 100 miles, eh..fine, whatever.
For me the major sign of their inability to replace gasoline cars is that every single family I know who has an EV has one EV. All the other cars are gasoline. Lucid EVs are releasing a car that's supposed to overcome a lot of the EV/Tesla issues, We'll see.
