5 So the site's time stamp is back to EDT?

Mornin', all,

Day 6 here in Alabama. We drove up to a community S. of downtown B'ham called Homewood, and I love it. They have a neat shopping district with coffee and breakfast shops, a toy and hobby store, a Little Professor bookstore, and lots more. The houses are gorgeous. Remember the fantastic-looking neighborhood where Michael J. Fox's character lived in Teen Wolf? It looks like that.

Ventured over to the real (as opposed to vape shop) pipe store there, The Briary, and picked up an inexpensive but solid billiard pipe and some maple-cocoa tobacco. The only problem with smoking outdoors? The breeze makes it hard to keep a match lit. I'm gonna have to give in and buy a pipe lighter. A Zippo?

It might bloody well come to that. Well, FEMA has paid me my disaster assistance; it's possible I may be able to get hotel reimbursement; my employer is continuing to pay me, and they are going to offer a $500 grant and a $1000 interest-free loan that I'll apply for. And I've put in to LA for disaster SNAP benefits, aka food stamps.

I'm loving it too. They have great roads and you can make a left turn at every major intersection. If the Buick could talk, it would be saying, "Boss! This is where we belong! Don't make me go back!"

Drawbacks, which the locals freely admit, are the tiny street signs (when they have them at all) and not much in the way of street lights, at least out here in the 'burbs.

In the late '90s, I think Sarah Michelle Gellar, then playing Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was on the cover, sitting barefoot on a car hood. I bought that one and posted the cover on my refrigerator for a while.

Otherwise my only knowledge of the magazine is the famous Dr. Hook song written by Shel Silverstein, and the paean to it that winds up Stephen King's Firestarter.

22 I never purchased or read Rolling Stone, even the thought would be laughable for me. I was the kid who had an annual subscription to SOF, and also bought SWAT and some of the obscure stuff I can't remember. Basically they were SOF wannabees that lasted a couple of years in the eighties. THat is normal right?

I took SI for a year I think and like everyone else bought it once a year if you know what I mean.

Whenever I bought an issue, I read it cover to cover. There were comic pieces -- I remember Tony Randall in a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western parody called "A Fistful of Linguine," and another on what a Soviet Russia version of Playboy would be like, with a brand-new tractor as the centerfold. depends on what is available and your funds. I swear buy the Old Boy lighter, particularly the one from IM Corona. They are designed for pipes.

I know cigar guys don't like traditional zippos because they are not butane and give off an off smell. But I would not be surprised if they made ones that work with pipes and cigars. Any decent tobacco shop should be able to steer you in the right direction.

Miss Linda and I spent the Sunday night of Katrina sleeping on the floor of a community center in Erwinville, LA, near Baton Rouge. It was air-conditioned and comfortable enough, but they wouldn't let us bring the cats inside, even in their carriers -- while the inhabitants' little germ vectors (kids) ran around freely. I remember some guy sitting up near me and talking to himself -- no cell phone, no Bluetooth headset, just him and the voices, I guess.

Zippo does make pipe lighters, and I understand you can have a regular lighter retrofitted with a flange that turns it into a pipe lighter. This shop had them for about $25 or $30. From what I've heard, if you fire it up and wait a second or two before applying the flame, the scent of lighter fluid is gone.

I haven't smoked cigars in years, but in the back of my mind I thought Zippo made other types other than the original. You are in a tough situation, so anything that works will be golden. Heck, I once had a cool cigar lighter made by Blue Rhino.

I love my IM Corona Old Boy because it is designed for pipes, will last forever, and you can light cigars and cigs just as easily. Other than the fuel smell issue with some lighters, a cig lighter flame is designed to go up, so it goes towards your hand when lighting a pipe. A pipe lighter is designed to go down.

some swear by matches, but screw that.

There's some kind of insert that can be fitted on the Zippos so that the flame will go downward. I love my matches, but usually I light my pipe at home indoors, then step outside part of the time as I smoke. So the wind issue doesn't come up.

57 Oh, and I shaved this morning for the first time in 2.5 days. Usually I do 36-48 hours, but on Thursday evening I gave my throat skin such irritation that I decided to let the skin rest. Don't know what caused the reddening; maybe an unlucky combination of slightly dulled blade, one pass too many, and some alcohol aftershave and a skin lotion that I'd never used before and may not agree with me.

Today I played it safe, used products that have always worked for me, and wound up clean and un-irritated.

87 A small insight into the power of the Narrative. A friend, a grizzled Army vet, conservative, Trump supporter, told me the other day that dumb Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her front door. People absorb these little lies without even knowing it.

Posted by: Ordinary American at September 05, 2021 06:26 AM (zts5x)

this is true. The Left knows this and that is why the complete take over of Hollyweird, the media, school systems, and now Wall Street gives them solace. Even if we win a one once in a while, they are the Cowboys, Yankees, and Steelers of the 70s. They have an edge we have to overcome just to have a chance.

people say the press is horrible, and they are of course. But it is a calculated act. If they were fair, their side would be even worse off.

That's a fucking lie, right up front. Each and every 'refugee' gets $1250 cash when they walk off the plane. American rescuees got charged $2k for their plane ride out of town; refugees, nothing.

That's a $3250 bennie per person right there. And I will gauranfuckingtee you they ain't being charged for housing on our military bases. Or food.

105 Since I won't be here for the book thread, I wanted to recommend two books in the Christian "romance" fiction genre, but they are much better than many modern romance novels in that there were written in the 1800's by George McDonald, a Christian and Scot who was a big influence on C.S. Lewis. The books are "The Fisherman's Lady" and "The Marquis' Secret". They are a set. Anyway, the main character is strong, caring, decent manly, honest and a person of religious faith. George McDonald had a way of infusing his books with an awareness of God and the importance of a life of faith in a way that seems very natural.

a bit more fair there. I have asked at several stores and they always say you have to download the app. And lets be honest, do people really carry store cards around? I haven't carried a store card in my wallet for 20 years. in the end, it is a scam to get people to give up freedoms cheap and if not they feel cheated. Hell of a way of doing business.

I respect Wallmart for one for not playing that game. Giant, Safeway and so many others are all in. Of course we can trust them with our info. It is not like I get a letter every other year telling me my info in some rando company's database was hacked.

9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne. 10 They cried out with a loud voice, "O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" 11 Then they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been.

Yeah, I don't know who they think they're kidding with that ridiculous number. We all know the real cost will be many, many, many times that. I think they have been lying to us from the very beginning. Remember when they did a complete 180 back in March 2020. After Pelosi and deBlasio went on local media and social media in February encouraging people to go out and enjoy Chinese New Year celebrations, because the Trump Administration was putting out misinformation about COVID and everything was fine.

Less than a month later, they had to convince people that COVID was serious and lockdowns were necessary, so conveniently one of the most famous celebrities in the world then magically "tests positive" for COVID. Tom Hanks and his wife in Australia.

March 11, 2020. Imagine the luck for those pushing lockdowns that they could have such a high-profile celebrity be the face of the COVID crisis!

This has been a Plandemic from the start.
