NFL Will Permit Far Left Slogans on Helmets, Uniforms, and Even in the Endzones Next Year
The NFL is so red-bloodedly American! Patriotism! Trucks! F-16s!
For the 2021 football season, the National Football League (NFL) will permit its players to display far-left propaganda on their outfits, and the league will even provide six different phrases for players to choose from for display on their helmets during games, as Fox News reports. The six phrases that players can have emblazoned on their helmets are: "Black Lives Matter," "End Racism," "Stop Hate," "Inspire Change," "It Takes All Of Us," and "Say Their Stories." In addition, the league will allow home teams to have one of two phrases written across the end zones of their fields: "End Racism" or "It Takes All Of Us."Anything about the slave labor camps employed by sponsor Nike or broadcaster ABC (Disney), or nah?
Beyond allowing these choices to players and teams, the league itself will go out of its way to push social justice propaganda in its programming later on in the season. The 17th and 18th weeks will be dedicated to a campaign called "Say Their Stories," while there are also plans to bring back a song called "Lift Every Voice and Sing," informally known as "the black national anthem," before several games and other league events. Ohio State ran away with it. They got the ball after committing a targeting penalty, causing a fumble which they recovered. The play was reviewed and the targeting was obvious, but they only reviewed the fumble, which upheld the call.
They went up by 10, then Minnesota panicked and didn't recover.

KC won't change the name unless forced by the NFL. Even then, the Hunt family will likely fight it before giving up. The management of the Royals and the Chiefs know their market, but my viewing of their product is done. Royals still have their Faith nights, still work with the Christians that bus in fans from Iowa, have refused to silence players like Sweeney, and do what they can. It kept me interested (especially Denny Matthews, who is an absolute treasure) through a lot. But now . . . done.

Would watch MNF with my late father. Monday was our "date night." I'd make a nice supper for us, (with a dessert!), we'd watch Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, then I think MNF came on.
Dad was blind from macular degeneration, but he could still solve the WoF puzzles when I told him where the letters landed. Before he lost his sight, he loved doing crossword puzzles.
He died 2016. Boy, I miss him.

Many years ago, I read a story about one of these. Animal control went to dude's (little) NY apartment on reports of a tiger. There was a tiger. They tranq'd it to take it to a zoo. To the NFL's credit, they did start bringing in financial planners to go over money management with new players and be available to help more - with league subsidy. The waste followed by being broke is still really common, but the NFL did at least try to lead the horses to water.

That would make the major benefit of owning a MLB baseball team as a tax writeoff for other income and being able to sell the team later for more than you paid for it.
Not much reason to assume NFL is any different. The equation changes though if revenues are going down by a large amount. Same as the dot.com failure in the 00's and some of the techie companies failing now. No Fed cheap money to bail the billionaires out, then values will go down.

As a longtime participant in fantasy sports, I can say without a doubt that I became far more of a league fan than team fan. This was particularly true in hockey, where in basically one year of playing Draftkings I got to know almost all four lines on every team.

I watched it happen to my brother, the biggest baseball fan I know. He lost his love of baseball and focused just on stats and individual players on his team from whatever team they were from. He didn't enjoy watching games because it could hurt him no matter what happened. His pitcher vs his batter, etc.
When he stopped with the league, then he started to be a fan again.

But it's not a numbers game for ratings. It's a quality game. Advertizers want young viewers, those are people who are impressionable and buy lots of shit. Which is why 100 23 year olds are worth more than 150 60 year olds as far as viewership goes.

pretty ironic. Back in the 90s, Oregon came out with a sports action lottery game that was really popular. After a year, the NFL, NBA and NCAA threatened to ban our college teams from post season play and even have pro sports banned from Oregon TV because they did not like their product associated with gambling. Now they have entire shows about fantasy football (gambling) on ESPN. The games are sponsored by gambling sites and they just moved one of the most storied franchises in the NFL to Las Vegas.

I am shocked at the black culture that requires certain type of sneakers...and I mean "worships" their ownership. Some Nikes go for thousands of $$, and the scoffing over $400 pairs is Tik-Tok thing apparently. Its pretty demented - when living in a condemned crack-ho house, and being shot at on a consistent basis, possessing no job and having no future is what you do, but owning a pair of Nike White Knights or MAGs or whatever is worship status, babeeee!

It is. Best movie of 2019, too. It is a bit long and indulgent but as the movie goes on it gets better and better, and then you wind up appreciating the indulgence of all the initial world-building stuff to recreate Hollywood of 1969.
Great movie. Worth forcing yourself to slog through the first 40 minutes. Which I promise you you will appreciate on second and third viewing.

There is documented studies that show advertising has little to no relationship with people buying things. The whole young people trope came from the Baby Boom and ensuing consumer boom and is less and less relevant as time goes one due to declining viewership of unifying programming.
At this stage, it is mainly a grift which is why the networks, etc. are getting so hysterical about Nielsen ratings being faulty. They cannot prop up the myth to sell advertising if they have no ratings.

Advertising is coasting on what used to work, and the stupid rut-driven beliefs of businesses that keep doing what everyone always has done and their competition is doing.
Advertising companies no longer try to make ads to sell product, but to go viral and win awards and get notice. They are not selling ads to move your stuff, they are selling ads to get more ad contracts. Its a self-feeding business. They figured out that its easier to get people to buy more ad contracts than to get people to buy products.
That's why you get ad campaigns like "breakfast with the king" that freaked people out and did nothing to move product (pop quiz: what product?) but won tons of awards.

Oh hell yes. I'll assume that the rest of the country sees what I see in the SF Bay Area. Guys who literally paint their whip team colors, have double window team flags and wear all the swag. It's like gangs, and the young Hispanics and Black kids frequently get into brawls in the stadium parking lot or on a BART train. Mostly NFL and NBA, but it's spread to baseball as well. In the past, cable was the mother cash cow, and they sold sports packages for revenue. That was passed on the the leagues.
But with people cutting cord, is the cable revenue declining? a lot? I know netflix and internet streaming is big revenue, but have any sports gone streaming, or is it all dependent on cable, which has gotta decline to zero at some point...
Asking because I am not in country and have not had cable since the 80s and I don't watch sports.

Yeah, the ranch scene was when I first starting leaning forward, that's when Tarantino started to pull all the build up together.
The Sharon Tate stuff was pretty dumb and dry, but I get why he put the stuff in their...I hate to say it, but the parts of the film revolving around Leo DeCaprio's character were very good...Brad Pitt made the film though, he's an idiot in real life, but he can act.

right... that's why it feels like a slog. You know you're not watching lots of plot material. He does slip in some plot and some foreshadowing. But a lot of the early stuff is just worldbuilding and character stuff.

OUATIH is kind of a benchmark in my war against "pacing" as a critical tool. Pacing is a real thing, but things aren't bad because they're "paced slowly". It's really just a descriptor.
Yeah, the plot isn't moving, but so what? Other stuff is happening. We can take three minutes with a minor child actress character because it's important to our central character.

well, no, that's my point from earlier, most corporate "entertainment product" doesn't include more than 5% entertainment juice. So, you have people explaining why they watched 20 episodes of Wandavision and Loki. (marvel tv has zero entertainment).
Quentin is one of the last big budget filmmakers making actual entertainment but he's indulgent now so yeah one could end up doing the "stick with it" routine with him. But FWIW, OUTIH and Hateful 8, though long were great films.

It's a taste thing, but it's treated as some sort of objective measure. "It's paced poorly" is short hand for some other issue the speaker usually can't explain. It's not an issue unto itself.
Saying that "nothing is happening" in the first hour of OUATIH is pretty outright false (not saying you're saying that, just an example). Lots is happening. It's just not plot. And yet there's a whole lot more to story than just plot.

Yeah, and I know that is the current argument and idea behind advertising. That's the dogma that big companies live by.
What I'm challenging is whether or not its true and whether or not its necessary. Nobody knows because everybody advertises because that's what you do.
Every single dollar you spend on advertising has to come back in increased or sustained sales or you have stupidly spent money on a losing proposition. I am far from convinced that this is worth the price they pay, particularly in an age when its so easy to skip ads.

The truth is that corporations do advertising in part as a reward for grifters including the increasingly young female ad execs selling them, as an excuse for poor sales, and as a way of avoiding responsibility for making good products.
Better off making good products and creating word of mouth by good service and avoiding over expansion. But, like lotteries, a fair chunk of people want to get rich the quick way.

Hang 'Em High is high on my to-get westerns list. I really enjoyed both Outlaw Josey Wales and High Plains Drifter. I don't think Clint's ever made a bad or boring film.

Yeah, Tarantino's films are incredibly self-indulgent. When he was a little guy and had more editing, it was tolerable but as time went on... Look, I like Jackie Brown but damn its too long and has way too many extended sequences that did not need to be there or could have been trimmed.

When I used to watch occasional NFL games, I always loved my DVR. As soon as a play ended, 30 second skip took me right to the next play. I would fast forward through each timeout, commercial, halftime, replay, or injury. That was the only way to watch a game for me. Now that the NFL has gone insane, I don't watch.

I've heard that there is a kind of film called "All-22." All-22 is film of the game but is only made available to the teams themselves, for reviewing games and making gameplans.
They NEVER let the public see All-22, which is just a wide-enough angle shot to see all 22 players at all time.
The reason they will not let the public see All 22 footage is that you'd quickly see that almost all plays are just the same three plays, with variations (like which routes recievers run). You'd also see it's kind of boring.
the close-in footage they show on tv is more dramatic.
