NFL Will Permit Far Left Slogans on Helmets, Uniforms, and Even in the Endzones Next Year

The NFL is so red-bloodedly American! Patriotism! Trucks! F-16s!

For the 2021 football season, the National Football League (NFL) will permit its players to display far-left propaganda on their outfits, and the league will even provide six different phrases for players to choose from for display on their helmets during games, as Fox News reports.

The six phrases that players can have emblazoned on their helmets are: "Black Lives Matter," "End Racism," "Stop Hate," "Inspire Change," "It Takes All Of Us," and "Say Their Stories." In addition, the league will allow home teams to have one of two phrases written across the end zones of their fields: "End Racism" or "It Takes All Of Us."

Anything about the slave labor camps employed by sponsor Nike or broadcaster ABC (Disney), or nah?

Beyond allowing these choices to players and teams, the league itself will go out of its way to push social justice propaganda in its programming later on in the season. The 17th and 18th weeks will be dedicated to a campaign called "Say Their Stories," while there are also plans to bring back a song called "Lift Every Voice and Sing," informally known as "the black national anthem," before several games and other league events.

Anna Isaacson, the "senior vice president of social responsibility" for the NFL, celebrated the drastic new changes, reaffirming that the league is "committed to inspire change and the social justice network that inspires change for the long-term."

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated reports that the Washington Nationals are the first MLB team to fire employees for refusing the vaccine.

40 Fuck 'em. This is the problem with getting into bed with the devil: you can never get out. This shit is extremely corrosive. Combine the constant politicizing (and an extremely divisive form of it) with the decaying quality of the game and it's easier than ever for the audience to just say, "Nah, bro." With tons of folks still working from home, you don't need to remain abreast of the local sports team for water cooler talk, either.

They're hurting themselves. Probably not enough to kill them, but they're hurting. Audience is down. Revenue is down. Clawbacks are up. Contract renewals will be lower-value. The salary cap is shrinking. They're fucking up, and fucking up badly. But they can't stop - because if they do, their woke players will fuck things up worse and the attacks on Twitter and ESPN will compound further. They're terrified of losing their audience either way.

Don't. Sleep. With. The. Devil.

Ohio State ran away with it. They got the ball after committing a targeting penalty, causing a fumble which they recovered. The play was reviewed and the targeting was obvious, but they only reviewed the fumble, which upheld the call.

They went up by 10, then Minnesota panicked and didn't recover.

KC won't change the name unless forced by the NFL. Even then, the Hunt family will likely fight it before giving up. Royals still have their Faith nights, still work with the Christians that bus in fans from Iowa, have refused to silence players like Sweeney, and do what they can. It kept me interested (especially Denny Matthews, who is an absolute treasure) through a lot. But now . . . done.

147 83 CRT revenue does not equal profit. Losing 25 percent of revenue while costs are going up is not a recipe for success. Most businesses have a 5-10 percent profit margin. Lose money long enough, even the billionaires drop it. The truth is a lot of wealthy people are cheap--Lauren Jobs threatened the Atlantic staff with cuts or even shutting doors. Bezos has done similar actions at the WaPo and Slim has supported austerity at NYT.

Many years ago, I read a story about one of these. Animal control went to dude's (little) NY apartment on reports of a tiger. There was a tiger. They tranq'd it to take it to a zoo. Then they heard lots of spooky noise from the bathroom. Upon investigation, they found that dude *also* had an alligator, which he kept in the tub (well, in the bathroom anyway).

They interviewed his neighbor about it, because there's no way she didn't know. She was an old lady and told them, "Oh, I heard noise all the time. I figured it was that rap music!"

Yes, that's exactly how it left me depressed because I have eyes to the present. There was the equivalent of sick burns and memes about how the other side would surrender in a day and how our side would get bumps and bruises that would make the man. Both sides said the war would be over in a few weeks in the papers. Reading the back and forth boasting correspondence in the North/South newspapers of the time I bet you'd say it looked a lot like twitter.

250 Forbes has the Business of Baseball with income, debt ratios, and revenue figures along with a hypothesized net worth. Truth is that every club lost money on the books but were given values of billions. Thus, the major gains for sports teams appears to be the belief that they will grow in value as a capital gain because they always have in the past.

That would make the major benefit of owning a MLB baseball team as a tax writeoff for other income and being able to sell the team later for more than you paid for it.

Not much reason to assume NFL is any different. The equation changes though if revenues are going down by a large amount. Same as the dot.com failure in the 00's and some of the techie companies failing now. No Fed cheap money to bail the billionaires out, then values will go down.

In part. I'd be happy to watch the NFL again. All it would take is three things:
1. Roll back rule book at least five years
2. Apologize to me. I mean grovelling, Oriental peasant style apologize.
3. Never, ever do it again - and publicly humiliate and fire people who don't comply.

I'd go back in a heartbeat. But also, yes, this is surely a part of it. They slept with the devil and now they're trapped.

I totally agree. I was reading Pat Reid's Colditz Story about living in POW camp Colditz for the hard cases and then Pat's subsequent escape. He mentioned during his escape, that he saw older Germans, shabbily dressed, heads down, dejected, and obviously unhappy about the war in a German town. That was contradicted by the behavior of the young Germans in the cinema that Reid and his escape partner went to in order to stay out of sight on the streets. They were acting as the young do, that there was not a care in the world with their leader in charge. They had not learned yet.

You see the same type of German, post war in the movie Foreign Affair where Marlene Dietrich became the mistress of a GI officer because of deprivation in post war Germany. She was formerly the mistress of a high ranking German official before the war's end. It was shot in Germany post war and you can see the signs of destruction everywhere still present.

324 As far as gambling, go back to Mark Twain's Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calveras County. People that want to bet, will bet on almost anything whether or not laws prohibit it. Horse and dog racing, slot machines, etc.

I had a relative that went through conservatively several million dollars in property and salary on gambling and he would gamble on just about anything--sports, cards, slot machines, dog and horse racing, etc. The Brits even gamble on politics and other events.

325 At this point I think everything is a conspiracy.
Two possibilities

1. China influence to destroy pro-sports, since the Chinese are not so good at them and they do not want that sub culture to somehow get through their great wall and become popular in China. Like falun gong, they fear anything they can not control.

2. The gay mafia. They took down the pope. they took down the military, and now they somehow got into the management of sports and are taking them down too. (And all this talk about tongue kissing and shit makes me worry about the HQ, let me tell you.)

326 Perhaps, and that's likely the NFL's reasoning. Problem is, that stuff is a small number at the bottom of the sheet. Peanuts. The real money is in the TV contracts and ad spots. Lose enough of those TV viewers, and the league is in trouble.
Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at September 03, 2021 03:39 PM (9sVFt)

Most people don't realize that TV contracts are the end all, be all of sports revenues. That said, I think they realize that viewership will be going down so you need to subsidize it. And what does that mean? Each team has six different jerseys, available now at NFL shop dot com!

That diploma ain't worth wiping your ass. Sure, it used to be you had to actually graduate H.S. and actually get a college degree (a real one), before it turned into a multi-billion dollar business. Now, they pluck these kids when they're barely sophomores in H.S., and pay their way to meet the criteria. Sure, there's some that actually studied and understood it's a short term thing. But the Steve Young's are rare and mostly extinct. An awful lot are illiterate dummies. And while you certainly could go into broadcasting if you had the looks, ebonics is still a foreign language to most of the country.

pretty ironic. Back in the 90s, Oregon came out with a sports action lottery game that was really popular. After a year, the NFL, NBA and NCAA threatened to ban our college teams from post season play and even have pro sports banned from Oregon TV because they did not like their product associated with gambling. Now they have entire shows about fantasy football (gambling) on ESPN. The games are sponsored by gambling sites and they just moved one of the most storied franchises in the NFL to Las Vegas.

There is documented studies that show advertising has little to no relationship with people buying things. The whole young people trope came from the Baby Boom and ensuing consumer boom and is less and less relevant as time goes one due to declining viewership of unifying programming.

At this stage, it is mainly a grift which is why the networks, etc. are getting so hysterical about Nielsen ratings being faulty. They cannot prop up the myth to sell advertising if they have no ratings.

I have been hammering this point for years here. I keep asking about a popular ad then what product they are promoting? Every once in a while someone remembers, out of the literally thousands who read ace every day and hundreds reading comments.

Advertising is coasting on what used to work, and the stupid rut-driven beliefs of businesses that keep doing what everyone always has done and their competition is doing.

Advertising companies no longer try to make ads to sell product, but to go viral and win awards and get notice. They are not selling ads to move your stuff, they are selling ads to get more ad contracts. Its a self-feeding business. They figured out that its easier to get people to buy more ad contracts than to get people to buy products.

That's why you get ad campaigns like "breakfast with the king" that freaked people out and did nothing to move product (pop quiz: what product?) but won tons of awards.

Oh hell yes. I'll assume that the rest of the country sees what I see in the SF Bay Area. Guys who literally paint their whip team colors, have double window team flags and wear all the swag. It's like gangs, and the young Hispanics and Black kids frequently get into brawls in the stadium parking lot or on a BART train. Mostly NFL and NBA, but it's spread to baseball as well. Nope, the middle aged white guy ain't springing a few c notes on Nikes, or pay $1.5k on a blue and gold silk Warriors jacket.

420 I've actually found a way to watch sports, now that I'm in my third year of boycotting MLB and the NFL (I haven't watched the NBA in 30 years)--MiLB.tv. Minor League baseball streaming live. 421 How does cable work nowadays? Is that still a market.

In the past, cable was the mother cash cow, and they sold sports packages for revenue. That was passed on the the leagues.

But with people cutting cord, is the cable revenue declining? a lot? I know netflix and internet streaming is big revenue, but have any sports gone streaming, or is it all dependent on cable, which has gotta decline to zero at some point...

Asking because I am not in country and have not had cable since the 80s and I don't watch sports.

Maybe this is an attempt to appeal to the streaming generation. That sounds like something a management consultant type would engineer.

429 FWIW, Ace and others, if you like British TV, even with low production values, The Sandbaggers series streaming on Amazon Prime and perhaps other places is a strangely hypnotic spy series about the real SIS. Little action and the episodes could easily be converted to the theater but consistently excellent acting and writing. Reminds me somewhat of the original Dragnet in BW which showed during the 50s'. Warning, it is a procedural show, not an action show.

It is perhaps aided by the fact that the real life writer and producer was an intel person apparently. He disappeared in Alaska under some strange circumstances during season three and ITV ended the series with other writers.

OUATIH is kind of a benchmark in my war against "pacing" as a critical tool. Pacing is a real thing, but things aren't bad because they're "paced slowly". It's really just a descriptor.

Yeah, the plot isn't moving, but so what? Other stuff is happening. We can take three minutes with a minor child actress character because it's important to our central character.

470 That's why Coke advertizes.

And its a waste of money. If Coke cut their ad budget in half, would it even affect their sales? Does anyone on earth not already know about Coca Cola? How many hundreds of millions of dollars a year do they spend on that?

They spend it because it's a tax write off.

It's a taste thing, but it's treated as some sort of objective measure. "It's paced poorly" is short hand for some other issue the speaker usually can't explain. It's not an issue unto itself.

524 Joe, Advertising does not work that way-I've like Budweiser Clydesdale ads in the past but hate Budweiser the beer. So I have enjoyed the ads but not spent one thin dime on Budweiser. Like Guinness Stout but have not ever seen an advertisement for it and have no idea about others that drink it other than some vague idea that Irish and Brits like it.

The truth is that corporations do advertising in part as a reward for grifters including the increasingly young female ad execs selling them, as an excuse for poor sales, and as a way of avoiding responsibility for making good products.

Better off making good products and creating word of mouth by good service and avoiding over expansion. But, like lotteries, a fair chunk of people want to get rich the quick way.

I've heard that there is a kind of film called "All-22." All-22 is film of the game but is only made available to the teams themselves, for reviewing games and making gameplans.

They NEVER let the public see All-22, which is just a wide-enough angle shot to see all 22 players at all time.

The reason they will not let the public see All 22 footage is that you'd quickly see that almost all plays are just the same three plays, with variations (like which routes recievers run). You'd also see it's kind of boring.

the close-in footage they show on tv is more dramatic.
