The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“However, I cannot give up on him, even if the defendant has. There is no reason why the defendant cannot approve or authorize other forms of treatments so long as the benefits outweigh the risks.”Julie Smith, wife of Kung Flu patient on ventilator

Quote II

They are trying to tell the world “we are changed and we don’t have problems with women’s rights or human rights” – but they are lying.

The Taliban hasn’t changed, because their ideology hasn’t changed.Artemis Akbary, an Afghan LGBT+ rights activist who now lives in Turkey

Quote III

America has become an authoritarian state, but worse than that it has become a tyranny of the busybody. C.S. Lewis noted that the tyranny of the well-intended is the worst of all tyrannies. “Those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” The tyranny of the busybody is where everyone is certain she has a duty to mind your business. The Z Man

Quote IV

So it was a tough decision, a tough couple of days, but we are re-energizing our commitment to the entire government to continue to do what we can to help those that weren’t able to make it out."John Kirby, Professional c**ks**ker Press Secretary for the United States Department of Defense

The Sunsettin' Joe Biden Shit Show continues to worsen.

President Joe Biden wanted the now-departed Afghan president to create the 'perception' that his government was capable of holding off the Taliban - an indication he knew it was only a matter of time before the US ally fell to the Islamic group even while reassuring Americans at home that it would not happen.

In the last phone call between Biden and his Afghan then-counterpart Ashraf Ghani, the American president said they needed to change perceptions of the Taliban's rapid advance 'whether it is true or not,' according to excerpts published on Tuesday.

A funny thing. I don't recall Cindy Sheehan getting banned and suspended from any social media platforms. However, if you are Shana Chappell, mother of Marine Kareem Nikoui you can't protest your child's death caused by Sunsettin' Joe.

Shana Chappell, mother of Marine Kareem Nikoui who was killed in Kabul has had her Instagram account suspended because she was saying mean things about Joe Biden.

California State Senator Melissa Melendez wrote, “Shana Chappell, mother of Marine and American hero Kareem Nikoui killed in Kabul, has had her FB and Instagram accounts suspended for posts she made about her son.”

And if you aren't banned/suspended from big tech. Big news will try to profit from your loss.

ABC News has just done the unimaginable to the commander of the Marines that perished in Kabul.

What the mainstream media company did was just despicable, they profited off Marine Captain Geoff Ball who was mourning the loss of his Marines.

After the deadly attack on the airport Cpt. Ball wrote a very touching Facebook post about his Marines:

Nine of my Marines and Sailors gave their lives so that others may live, and almost 20 other members of the company were wounded by their side. Up until that moment, I did not believe I could ever be more proud of their efforts, by the way they handled the surging crowds and chaos all week, but they proved me wrong. [….]

There is no greater honor for a Marine to be called to save Americans. To be the last on deck as those who need our help are pulled to safety. To lay down our lives for others. That is what my Marines did. They will always be my heroes.

ABC News thought the piece was so touching that they stole it, used Captain Ball’s name, and published it as an op-ed by him, titled “My Fallen Marines Will Always Be My Heroes: Opinion.” The network even created an “author” profile for him on the website all without his permission.

Did you have plans to visit any California National Parks over the Labor Day Weekend? Time to make some new plans.

Forest Service officials have ordered the immediate closure of California’s 19 national forests through mid-September.

Labor Day weekend plans in the Golden State? Not so fast. California has issued a historic first by closing every national forest within state lines.

The closure, which includes 1,690 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, goes into effect today, Aug. 31, and will remain in effect until at least Sep. 17.

California’s National Forest Closures
The U.S. Forest Service handled the initial announcement, Regional Order No. 21-07 for the Pacific Southwest Region, on Monday afternoon. The order comes after California’s worst wildfire season was recorded in 2020, when an estimated 4.1 million acres burned.

I knew Pajama Tuesdays at work was a smart and healthy choice.

Your tie is killing you. That’s not a metaphor for work-life balance; as a recent report by Insider Deutschland notes, your business wardrobe accessory could be responsible for an increase in intraocular eye pressure and an overall risk of infection, among many other health concerns.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the shift to WFH or part-time office work has certainly changed expectations about office dress codes. But maybe it’s time to retire the tie except for strictly formal situations. As Insider writer Qayyah Moynihan notes, “The annoying but seemingly innocuous item of clothing could actually damage your health.”

Pajama Tuesdays = Pajama People. (H/T The Fabulous Mrs. Mis. Hum.)

It certainly appears that Australia is one step closer to Concentration Camps. WATCH: Father handcuffed for not wearing mask as his young daughter sits on his lap

"He's got a daughter here. She is by herself. Look, the little girl is scared, man," the man filming the incident said. The officers claimed the father had "committed an offense."

On Saturday afternoon, a father walking with his daughter in the Garrison Point Reserve in George's Hall, Australia, was handcuffed by local police after he was found unmasked in Sydney's coronavirus-hit western suburbs.

In a perfect world the politicians who violated the church's 1st Amendment rights would personally pay instead of the taxpayers. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

(RNS) — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday (Aug. 31) voted to authorize a $400,000 payment to settle a legal battle with Grace Community Church over lead pastor John MacArthur’s defiance of COVID-19 restrictions in the early months of the pandemic.

Under the agreement, which the board unanimously approved without discussion, the state of California will also pay the church $400,000.

Hi, Nurse! Yep, both Wolf and Chekov are here. Wolf slid out of his carrier and adjusted to the new circumstances in an hour. Chekov, the older cat, threw up a little in his carrier during the trip, and rolled in it -- hardly his fault. So we bathed him in the hotel bath sink. He behaved fine for that. But now he's slid between the wall and the head of the bed and is hiding the way he did when he first came to live with me. I suppose he'll come out sooner or later.

59 Grace Community Church is no joke. When we lived in CA, we visited the church at the invitation of our real estate broker. Packed with people, classrooms full of kids going to Sunday School.

MacArthur's famous for preaching sermons which through the *entire* Bible, verse by verse, over a period of years. He gave a church report going over how 2020 went for Grace, and he said that the church grew in members and donations during the pandemic closures, and they won every battle fought against the state. He stood tall when most churches in the country could not - or would not.

Back 30 years ago at work, I had a desk tie&jacket in case an exec asked to speak to me. This required one to pretty much wear slacks and dress shirts every day but that was the rule anyway. This rarely happened. But my boss would play a prank on me where he'd call from the chief engineer's office or a program exec and ask me to come in for a talk. So I'd grab the jacket and tie and think, oh shit what among the 50 different things I probably screwed up is this about. I get in there and they're all standing around with stern looks. Then one cracks a smile and says congrats here's a bonus for getting blahblahblah done ahead of schedule.

126 I was reading about a bunch of the major 'Stan figures which I hadn't in a while. A couple of interesting points;

Massood, Reagan's guy, had kept the former communist dictator alive, though confined to the UN compound. He seemed to have some sort of long term plan to use him later.

When the Taliban was heading for Kabul, because unlike Biden Massood wasn't an idiot and could actually read intelligence reports, Massood realized that the commie guy was dead meat if he left him there.

So...he gave him the freedom to leave. And...the commie guy, Nasrallah...choose not to take it...and the Taliban killed him of course.

It does make me wonder how different the last 20 years would have been with Massood leading 'Stan instead of Karzai.

I had a stone after having my second child. 2 trips to the ER and finally some lithotripsy and I was fine. Haven't had a stone since. No change in diet. Did they say what type of stone you had? Hopefully it was just a one time thing like mine.

209 I've posted up before about kidney stones but I think my comment got willowed. I've passed hundreds of stones, some of them big enough that the nurses took them around to show fellow workers.
Be careful of stones that are calcium. It doesn't always mean that you have an over abundance of calcium in your diet. My doctors almost destroyed my kidneys by reducing calcium intake. The problem wasn't too much calcium it was a calcium deficiency. It took an old Chinese doctor I could barely understand to figure this out. He had my stones analyzed to see what type of calcium it was and it was from my bones. When your body has a calcium deficiency it goes to the only source of calcium, your bones. Your kidneys cannot process it. My kidneys were so calcified they were barely functioning well enough to remove toxins from my body. Through lithotripsy procedures and calcium supplementation my kidneys are functioning like they should. Watch out for this if you're prone to getting stones.

I have suffered through easily over a dozen stones over the past twenty years. Until I find a doctor who knew what he was doing. His advice: have the some analyzed and avoid what the stones are made up of.

Mine were calcium, so I cut down on my calcium intake and it has helped. They are not fine but have had less.

Bad news is you are unlikely to get away with no more stones. Once you start most likely you will have more, but if you control your diet you can hope to suffer less.

223 I had a kidney stone a little bigger than a pea. I thought I was going to die. I was thinking is this a heart attack? I was in the emergency room waiting by myself going through waves of pain and nausea. I started jumping up and down which some how helped. At some point I had started feeling better and I was covered in cold sweat. The nurse asked for a urine sample. When she came back she announced, "congratulations it's a boy". Nurse humor. But it was just a little bigger than a pea. And the last part of its journey through banana's banana, if you will, I didn't feel that at all. It was the kidney to bladder I think that causes the pain.

At some point I got hit with this massive wave of pain that I just started screaming. My cat was so freaked out by the episode she just started biting me.

Second stone I was wide awake for but, and I still find this odd, it started with my balls becoming suddenly very sore.

308 @244 Dr. Washinton Nearsider-The last big stone I passed was the night before I was scheduled to go in that morning to go up and pull it out. I woke up in pain at about 2am, took another morphine. The morphine would just take the edge off. In desperation I grabbed a body massager and tried rubbing it around my abdomen. Moving it around I ended up resting it on my hip bone and immediatelyI could feel the stone move. Man I could tell when it hit my bladder because it was instant relief and the morphine did its thing. Ran to the crapper and out it came. Nothing like pissing out a jagged rock and being able to see meat hanging off the edges. I'll never forget that.

335 Kidney stones are also one of the ways a lot of people choose to try to score drugs. (No real obvious symptoms besides pain.) The ER nurses ask you to describe it. This is from memory:

'It is not tearing or cutting. No pulses. Not changing with my heartbeat. Pressure is probably the closest? Imagine someone took a broom handle- the round end- and gently placed it on your back over your kidney. Then they started pushing. And pushing. But you cannot get away. The moment before your skin would break is what it feels like. All the time.'

I got kudos from the ER doc on that night for the description.

I remember more than few having pickled pigs feet, along with pickled sausages and pickled eggs. Never did try the pigs feet, but I wouldn't have eaten them even if they weren't pickled. Anyway, my exposure to older Filipino-Americans indicates very distinct clear memory of the last liberation, in 1944/45. 1-3/4 lbs of chopped cabbage and 2 tsp of salt, allowed to sit to sweat for 20 minutes and then packed into a quart jar. If the brine is not enough to cover the slaw, pour brine in to cover.
You can add shredded carrots, garlic or peppers if you like.
Let sit on the drainboard for 2-5 days and then stick in the fridge.
It will keep six months
It will stay crunchy even when it turns beige

477 It is super easy. Slice the jalapenos into rings. Boil water, vinegar , kosher salt, sugar,a couple of cloves of garlic. Push the jalapenos into the mix and take it off the stove. When they turn that nice light green, cool slightly and put them in a canning type hjar and refrigerate.

481 Pickled jalapenos and carrots, and onions, that great fixture on a Mexican table. You can buy good canned versions, have always meant to do it myself, not complicated, but lazy. I remember in earlier years, every border Mex place in SoCal had those. At some point they became less common, you had to ask for them.

Which is nothing in terms of culinary/cultural outrage alongside the near impossibility of finding a restaurant that does Vietnamese coffee the right way, where they bring you about 11 different things and you do the drip thing there at the table, at your own pace, your own way. The "phin", or little metal dripper with the coffee, plus a glass of ice, thermos of boiled water, little dish to fill with boiled water and put the coffee cup in to heat the sua (sweetened condensed milk).

553 There are other members of the Horde who know the ACW as well as I know WW2, so I'll defer to them, but the American Civil War is, perhaps, the first modern war. It was the first significant war to use trains to move troops and materiel (strategically, not so much tactically, but still), telegraphy, troop concentrations on a mass scale that could not have been managed before then, theaters of battle of enormous scale, gatling guns, etc. It was studied around the world. Hitler discussed it with his generals. WW1, to my understanding, was more about throwing in fresh troops in huge numbers to overwhelm Germany when Britain and France had seen their military-age pool of men nearly wiped out. (Cf. The Lost Generation) That was, in part, why appeasement was so popular leading up to WW2. But anyway, American Revolutionary War, American Civil War, and WW2. Those are our big 3 in terms of military, political, and social impact, in my mind (such that it is).

Feynman had a heavy New York accent. It was a hoot. Pauli said he "talks like a bum". Sounded like one of Archie Bunker's buddies at Kelsey's Bar.

One of the most brilliant physicists ever and he sounded like an NYC cabbie.

And a Nobel Laureate, who along with Schwinger and another one, won the Nobel for Quantum Electrodynamics.

And he had the talent for explaining these concepts in language anyone could follow.

When Feynman was working on the Manhattan Project, he pulled a few pranks. One funny one could've gotten him in a lot of trouble. He broke into a safe where classified material was kept and put some message to let them know he was there. Something like that.

As he later explained, you had all these great physicists there who would come up with combinations and think were so clever that no one could guess it.

Well, he knew how they thought, and was able to easily guess. Let's see, old Bohr here, what would he think was some very sneaky, clever combination of numbers? Boom.

571 Now I'm going to discuss how we would look for a new law. In general, we look for a new law by the following process. First, we guess it (audience laughter), no, don't laugh, that's the truth. Then we compute the consequences of the guess, to see what, if this is right, if this law we guess is right, to see what it would imply and then we compare the computation results to nature or we say compare to experiment or experience, compare it directly with observations to see if it works.

If it disagrees with experiment, it's wrong. In that simple statement is the key to science. It doesn't make any difference how beautiful your guess is, it doesn't matter how smart you are who made the guess, or what his name is ... If it disagrees with experiment, it's wrong. That's all there is to it.

That's actually an incredibly powerful statement and general concept that goes way beyond physics, but to the ability to perceive the world around you, understand it, and meaningfully communicate with someone. Think of times when you've had a concept on your mind and you're trying to find the words to explain it to someone. Disagree. But let's define terms. My definition of Total War is making war in a way that is not just against the armies in the field, but also against the ability of country's citizens to support that army (whether that involves directly killing/enslaving that populace.)

Both the Germans and the Soviets did a FAR more brutal version of this on each other. Hell, the atom bomb drops were far more total than anything Lincoln did.

It's now quite clean inside.

Brought it home, and laid it out on the worktable. Got the heater control cable guide tubes withdrawn from the frame extension horns. Also the fuel line from the rear section of frame. And got the fuel line mostly freed from the front section of frame. I probably could have reused the old fuel line, and joined the halves with a compression union, but I prefer to run a new 1/4" Cunifer line.

It's a 1950 Cal. Supreme Court opinion. Skip the specifics. I'm referring to the part beginning with the 2nd paragraph after [6], beginning with "An insistence". When you say that the language of a statute is clear, is your clarity of understanding the same as the clarity of understanding of the drafters of the statute? Bear in mind, statutes are often drafted to solve problems in the real world. These problems exist independent of being framed, linguistically, by legislators. In applying the statute, do so to solve the problem that the legislators were addressing, not to adhere to pedantic adherence to the particular words themselves. CA Civil Code sec. 3340 was copied word-for-word from an earlier NY statute. Well, except for a comma missing from the CA version which changes a particular clause from a parenthetical to a restrictive relative clause. Did anyone involved in either state have any idea about this? For want of a comma, does the meaning of the statute accurately address the problem to be solved?

Mr. Feynman accidentally explains something I've long postulated, that the post-resurrection Christ, being Light, Life and Love, and not only owner of, but the Creator of the Laws of Physics, would have no problem having walked through the wall as seen by the disciples when He made Himself known to them before the Ascension.

Simple (to Him), matter of Him attenuating either or both His or the walls' particle frequencies to "the same" or otherwise harmonize, and like water through water, there He is, there He goes.

Doesn't violate the laws of physics, does violate the limitations of understanding of those outside of the faith. You may now burn me for my heresy.

Flatlanders.

It's a useful concept for imagining higher dimensions. The trouble is, we can visualize 3 dimensions in our mind's eye. We can't visualize four. You have to rely on pure math to do that. Sort of a like a pilot flying on instruments. Your 3D intuition helps you build those instruments, but you've got to rely on them exclusively into higher dimensions.

630 Let's be honest about something: If the U.S. had put its resources into improving its heavy bomber and escort fleets (quality and quantity) in lieu of ground warfare in Europe/Africa, we could've basically flattened every German city of any significant size by night bombing like the British did. Even early on, we could've hit western German cities like Cologne, Dusseldorf, Munster, etc., night after night after night, and even smaller cities/large towns that lacked significant AAA defenses. At a certain point, Germany would've been functionally depopulated.

Re 4 dimensions. We live in a 4 dimensional world. Mr. Einstein (with a lot of help from the great mathematicians) describes that as spacetime.

It's important to understand that spacetime is not a simple 4D Euclidean space. Time and space are different. They mix, where one man's space is another man's time, but there is an invariant distinction between the space-like and the time-like.

We live in a (1, 3) dimensional world. One time-like, and 3 space-like dimensions. The interesting thing is, is you can show that such is the only one that "works right". For example, extend gravity to 4 spatial dimensions and 1 time dimension. Stable orbits are no longer possible.

All the other physics goes wonky too. This has to do with the solutions of ellipitical partial differential equations, which are the language the laws of physics are written in.

635 Publius. Here's the weird. I found it actually easier to fly on instruments than VFR. Visual references were subjective, relative and given to "feel".

Instruments, though fluid in movement, were numeric, logical, scalable, associative and in combination, reliable at high percentages.

Even in my first hours of flight, ascending in to "scudding" conditions, I was quite comfortable with the Attitude Indicator, Altimeter and Turn & Bank Indicators. Kind of freaked out my CFI, cause I didn't freak out on the dials, even at 1.1 hrs total time.

Physics is much the same. What are the measurements TELLING you? And then, go from there.

A (1, 3) spacetime is not Euclidean but psuedo-Riemannian. Even flat spacetime is not Euclidean. The norm (generalized distance) is not a postitive-definite sum of squares, but a difference of squares.

Time^2 - space^2 (I prefer a positive time-like convention 'cause I want time to be positive -- the opposite can make the math a little easier in some cases, however).

"Distance" in spacetime can be positive (time-like), zero (light-like), or negative (space-like). Wrap your mind around that. Light always follow a null path, the zero "distance" path through spacetime.

Even in flat spacetime, that doesn't make sense to your 3D spatial intuition.

Give it an object though, and think of your local bank robber with is face in pantyhose. Pressing down from EVERY angle. Now, wrap our planet, our solar system in the same unending planes of hoisery. Gravity doesn't pull us down. It PRESSES us down. And now you know why it's so damned important to detect, identify and understand, gravitational waves.

This gets to why some of the most brilliant scientific minds enjoyed drugs such as LSD and marijuana. They didn't/don't have to think in human language; rather they perceive, understand, and think in abstract concepts and mathematical formulae that are enhanced, not hindered, by these chemicals. "Drugs" is a loaded term. I kind of operate the same way sometimes when I'm stoned on cannabis sativa, and pondering statutes and application of legal concepts to real-world problems. The trick is to take the abstract concept in my head and describe it using precise, and often insufficient, symbols called words strung together in particular order called syntax. But doing that helps me to refine my understanding of what I'm thinking about. If I can't translate an abstract legal concept into intelligible words, I either need to refine the concept or recognize that it's wrong. The "genius" is not in getting it right, per se, it's in acknowledging when it's wrong.

Now, that (1, 3) spacetime. Rather than being flat, it can be "curved". Now you are with Mr. Einstein and General Relativity. Gravity is the intrinsic curvature of that spacetime. Gravity is geometry.

Via Flatland analogy, imagine taking a 2D surface and curving it. You have to imagine doing that in 3D "flat" space. But you can see how you can do that. Your notion of "distance" on that curved surface via coordinates thereon can be very non-Euclidian.

Now, free you mind. You don't need a larger embedding space to do that, if you "fly on instruments". Just imagine that your "distance formula" (your "metric" in the language of Riemannian geometry and General Relativity) is different from (1, 1, 1) It's the not the square root of the sum of squares, but something different.

And that's an intrinsic property of the geometry. Spacetime can "curve" but needs to nothing larger in which to curve. It just is.

Now, Mr. Einstein figured out that matter(-energy) curves spacetime. And that manifests as gravity.

I wrote a vidgame played on a 4x4x4x4 board. You (and the opposing game pieces) could step in four wraparound dimensions, shooting down or building up walls between squares behind you as you move, creating a kind of maze.

Sure, you could only see one 3D (4x4x4) cubie at a time, displaying four 4x4 planes, but you could "rotate" the cubes in all directions to view the hidden portion.

All this displayed on a 2D Radio Shack Model I screen with 128w x 48h 'pixels'. Written in TRS BASIC, except the "rotation," which took too long so I had to write that part in machine code.

Never did get that sucker translated to PC. Somewhere in the catacombs, it's all preserved on 5" floppies. I used to do stuff like that. In a dream, long ago.

There are absolutely stupendous masonry works, single blocks of huge statues, columns and things made out of the hardest materials known, like Granite, Andesite etc. Almost as remarkable to me as their construction in the first place, is their de-construction. How do you bust up a 300 ton granite statue or anything? And some of the sites look like a bomb went off.

If you delve into the ancient Vedic stuff (I have not) and similar ancient texts and tales they are full of stories of incredible machines, and there's a sub-chapter of the Conspiracy wackjobs that holds nuclear weapons were detonated in what is now India thousands of years ago. Now I don't necessarily subscribe to any of this, but there are some really interesting artifacts or natural phenomenon - there are probably natural explanations, but "green glass" was pretty much unknown except for two places in 1945 - Alamagordo, and some ancient plain in India.

To summarize. More or less than 1 time dimension means not predictability. "Anything could happen" given the laws of physics and a set of initial conditions.

More than 3 spatial dimensions, and nothing is stable. Atoms couldn't exist. Orbits couldn't exist. Everything would fly apart.

Less than 3 spatial dimensions and everything is "too simple", GR Einstein gravity couldn't exist in a vaccum. EM and the other forces would be too simple. Nothing interesting could happen.

Our laws of physics can only work with 1 time dimension and 3 spatial dimensions.

680 Up early, folk. I usually have trouble sleeping in a strange place anyway, and I'm none too thrilled with the amenities at the Sonesta where Miss Linda and I wound up. There's no lobby where you can go to sit and read, no breakfast included, and the gym is closed up because of the WooHoo Flu nonsense.

On the good hand, there is a 24-hour Waffle House a few miles away near the closest Exxon station. My main bank has a branch here. My savings bank is part of the Community Cash ATM network, and there's one of their ATMs fairly close. Plus research tells me there is a real pipe smoker's shop in the area.

Once I get set up with FEMA -- I'll apply this morning -- we'll see what's what.

Indeed. Something other than (1,3) is beyond conjecture so to speak. Our minds that exist in (1,3) can't even conceive of something totally different that could exist in (n, m). And vice-versa.

It's like, wow, man. And note we are conceiving the unconceivable. We are imagining something we cannot imagine. That is the spark of the divine in all of us.

Yeah, that's the basic horror, all right. I hated the place even with A/C and basic conveniences. My boss fled to Jackson, MS, and one of my co-workers to Dallas. Don't know yet about the other two. If the power does get back on, we'll still be working mostly remotely, I think.

Indeed. Those ancient Hebrews hit, with that "I am" something very deep, some Godelian self-referential, absolute infinite, very deep, "Wow, man....!" shit.

It is....the spark of the divine.

Yes, indeed. Emerson hit some Godelian level shit, there.

"I am the doubter, and the doubt".

"They know not well the subtle ways
I keep, and pass, and turn again."

Wow, man. IOW, only God, the spark of the divine, can one doubt God. :-) Wow, man.

That's actually an incredibly powerful statement and general concept that goes way beyond physics, but to the ability to perceive the world around you, understand it, and meaningfully communicate with someone. Think of times when you've had a concept on your mind and you're trying to find the words to explain it to someone. Or if you've ever asked someone what they meant when either they didn't have the vocabulary to explain something or you didn't understand theirs.

It's the malignity of the public school system, too. By perverting the meaning of words and changing history as taught, and making the education process as stifling and uncomfortable as possible, they have created vast swathes of the public that either cannot read, or do not want to. They have created people who don't know true history, and have no desire to correct the misconceptions they were taught.

They have abolished knowledge, curiosity, and free expression all at once.

It's an exceptionally arty, somewhat inverted use of the language. "Fly" as in flee. Basically "If they flee my presence, I am the wings." It's clever. God gave us reason and free will. Using those gifts to try to escape from God is futile.

Posted by: Cato, Collectivism Delenda Est, Post-Apocalyptic Scourge of the Seas at September 01, 2021 04:01 AM (xNrL5)

705 >> God gave us reason and free will. Using those gifts to try to escape from God is futile.

Exactly. Only a creature created by God could deny God. God is what gives you the power to deny God. If there was no God, then there would be nothing. No self-awareness, no consciousness. Nothing.

The reason you can deny the existence of God, is because God exists. If there was not God, conscious thought, self-awareness would not exist.

They reckon ill who leave me out, when me thy fly, I am the wings, is Emerson's way of expressing that concept. It's "Godelian" and self-referential. Deep shit.
