37 Thank you, JT. Praying the animals w the Kabul Small Animal Rescue get out today. Run by woman from TN, trying to get staff out plus around 200 dogs and cats, many pets of ex-military there. Also has around 50+ contractor working dogs (bomb detectors), she is rescuing. Taliban mutilates the bomb sniffers by cutting off their noses, in addition to other atrocities. She had privately paid for air transport, but bureaucrats would not get her a landing permit and authorization for animals to leave last week. Now, she's at airport, begging for cargo space. Plus, the creeps at CDC initiated a ban on animals coming into US on 7/14, bc of rabies, which they would not lift for these animals (which would automatically be quarantined when they entered, anyway, so the ban seemed punitive.) If she can't get them out, she will euthanize, rather than let the Taliban torture them. Another example of Biden bureaucracy at work.

42 OK guys, I've really had it. I've always done more housework for various reasons including that I care about it more, but at this point, I am working full time AND doing almost all the housework and childcare. Yesterday, he went into his man cave to play computer games at about 10. I don't know what time he came to bed, but the earliest would be midnight, which means he got a MINIMUM of fourteen hours of leisure time he got to enjoy while I did the childcare and cleaned the house. So I think it would be only fair for me to get 14 hours completely to myself tomorrow while HE works on the house (there is way more than 14 hours worth of work that needs to be done, but even if he does the usual half ass stuff he will begrudgingly do, it would be progress) and takes solo care of the kids. Yes?

52 I personally think I'm already compromising in two ways: (1) given I'm the only one working full time, I don't think I should have to do ANY housework - he could easily keep the house to my standard and still have several hours each day for his own pursuits - and (2) I'm not even asking him to keep the house to my standard, which I acknowledge is high (e.g., I think the shower should be cleaned every week, but I'll accept every second or even third week, while he prefers to wait until it's so disgusting we need flip-flops. I assume. I'm not actually sure how long he'll wait because I always snap and clean it myself). I don't see how he's offering any compromise at all.

It also pisses me off that our youngest doesn't get a bath unless I give it to him, and that the kids don't get fed unless I make the food or tell him to do it. He should know by now that they do, in fact, eat every day.

Oh boy. I can relate. I try to let it roll off my back but sometimes that's hard. It was different when Mr I worked full time (and he worked hard) but he's retired now and has oodles of free time.

It mostly boils down to he doesnt see the need to do some of the stuff as I do. And he also says I am too type A and need things done a certain way. I admit that he has a point there, but I am not as bad as that blurb Weird Dave posted on the ONT the other night about loading the dishwasher!

Working, cleaning, cooking and still being a Mom should not be totally on your shoulders. You need to have time to enjoy being a Mom and your spouse should help make that happen. JMHO.

89 Mrs. Peel, we're going through something similar with our kids. I can't offer much help other than to say you're at a part of the map marked "here be dragons." Figure out a level of acceptance that will give you peace - dishwasher emptied and counter cleaned off, for example - and try for that, and be satisfied with that. Especially for a spouse (vs a child). It will be help, and he will be helping. Accept his help. I'm not joking when I say make flirty comments or touch and make a suggestive remark to reinforce. We men are easy to manipulate, and he'll be trained in no time if you follow through.

I doubt he's doing it in any way on purpose or to irritate you. Like you said, "your standards." He might even be irritated by your standards for scrubbing the tile in almost exactly the same way you view his standards of not scrubbing the tile as irritating.

There's likely not a good answer for this in gray boxes, but I hope it works out and that everybody can be empathetic and sympathetic. It's a shame to have abrasion in a marriage/family over fairly minor stuff, because after a while that will rub off the skin and lead to infection.

It sounds to me as if you're under a lot of stress-not surprisingly- (Sorry!) and he is under stress too because he's homeschooling and not doing his accustomed work. Homeschooling and covid have lead to so much upheaval and stress in so many areas and it may be that he is clinically depressed and how he deals with it is by retreating and playing video games. You are angry because he's not doing his fair share and you are exhausted.

I'm not there to talk to you in person but I would consider starting t out with thanks for taking care of your daughter-that it's meant so much to both of you, but suggest that would really helpful to you if you could bathe our daughter or make meal a couple of times a week because you're really tired and recognize he would be too. Homeschooling can be a challenge with special needs children. I know because I did it. Start out with easily more accomplishable things such as make dinner twice a week. Anyway, maybe it's time to let some things go.

I like that advice, Fen, because that's what we did when we took over the schooling and 8a-530p care of our grandsons due to the virus. Housework was rescheduled to fewer times per week, and meal prep often revolved around the boys. The house never looked it's "usual" way with all the supplies needed for school, games, rainy day activities and excessive heat activities. We'll get back to our old normal someday, but, at least till school kicks in, we'll have to make this acceptable.

I was still stuck on the overnight thread. Things are still fine here; light rain, landfall not expected until about noon. I've made a new reservation, Monday through Saturday, at a different pet-friendly hotel in Birmingham, with a cancellation protection setup, etc. If a miracle occurs and I don't need to bug out, I'll only be charged for one night's stay -- a bargain to me. Several of the pet-friendly hotels listed had rooms, but the entire charge would have been non-refundable. No way.

131 Mrs. Peel, been there many years ago. The first, best thing I did was: stop nagging and stop being angry. I was getting so wound up and stressed, which repelled my husband. Listened to some good avice from Dennis Prager's Male/Female Hour (on his radio show) about household chores: if you're nagging then it's more important to you, so just do it yourself *without nagging first* and then - this was key for me - no guilt trip on hubby. Skip the whole nagging and anger part.

The other thing is that generally speaking, men are problem solvers while women want to talk about things, emotions, etc. -- see the classic video about the woman with the nail in her head. Approach this with him as a problem that you two need to solve together, again without the pent-up anger and guit tripping.

Really, the best thing for me was to let go of the anger and stop caring so much about the small stuff like dishes in the sink, etc..

You're lucky. My two will probably fight me about going into the carriers. Then Chekov, the older cat, will yelp continually. Wolf, the younger, will no doubt settle down. Of course I haven't traveled for 6 hours with these two in the car before.

Marie-Antoinette, the late smart black cat, settled right down in her carrier and handled traveling fine. She was the gold standard for traveling cats.

The dogs usually rescue people from high places, or clear small landslides off roads. The "police dog" directs traffic so that the construction and fire dogs can drive their vehicles through. The only villains are a white guy in a top hat, and a mean "royal" pet who wants to be queen and steals the crown from time to time.

We don't have 3 dogs, we have 3 cats. When I see cat fut tumbleweeds, I pick them up and put them in a wastebasket.

The LVP we have is a perfect background. You don't see dirt. I should vacuum the rugs in the DR, LR and hall more than I do, maybe, but publius and I are on the same page about stuff like that.

I don't expect him to do housework, and he doesn't complain about my standards. Neither of us have jobs other than maintenance (and he does the lawn and bushhogs the fields since I can't run the tractors). That's enough for him with his RA.

Subtlety praise him for what cleaning he does and then begin shaping his behavior. Once they have been repeated enough, they will become habits. I tried to persuade publius to replace soap (produces scum) with shower gel, but he wasn't interested. I doubt he's ever used the squeegee. Oh well.

I need to clean the walkin shower. It's a beautiful shower (and very large). Sometimes I just do the glass wall, and sort of rotate around the rest.

My cleaning "routine" consists of randomly cleaning for maybe 5 minutes, when I notice something bothersome. If I feel like continuing, I do. And if I don't, I don't.

I woke up at 2:30 this morning and heard Peanut crying. His rear end had slipped out and he couldn't get back up. I got him up, helped him to the car and got him loaded, not without difficulty.

I took him to the emergency vet, but had to wait because they were doing surgery. He tried to get up again and again slipped put. I pulled his rear legs around so he wasn't splayed out, then went back to the driver's seat to wait.

A couple of minutes later I called Peanut and heard no response. I went back to see and saw he was dead. We knew it was sooner or later, and it was sooner. Our poor unlucky boy can now run free.

I got to talk with Jordie Nelson at the local Grade School. He was there with his wife and three kids.

The kids were well behaved, and looked farming fit. Jordie was a lot thinner than I thought he would be. But tall. Must be all the pads in the football uniform. He looked happy.

And his wife, after 3 kids, would outshine any of Joe Mannix''s display girls. In a classy way.

My aunt's Revereware looked as though it had never been used (it had been). As a kid, I wondered about that and had no idea that you could obsessively scrub pots to look like new.

Her home was always neat but never homey (which is my standard for homemaking). I want people to feel comfortable.

Dad lives in Franklin Parish. Wisner to be precise. Hasn't flooded there since '73. Just a data point for you when you do depart you home. Out of Baton Rouge, take highway 15 north, follow the river, it's a narrow twisty two lane, but it will be primarily empty because of that fact.
