To me the best and maybe only way that left-behind Americans could get a bit of temporary safety from every faction is for them to go to the Swiss Embassy or the embassies of Muslim neutrals like Morocco, and ask for asylum.
For that to be an option, however, Biden will have to cut a deal with the Taliban to let Americans get to a neutral embassy (or consulate if there are any in Kandahar or other large Afghan towns), and get a promise from neutral countries that they will give temporary asylum to Americans in their embassy.
Actually, I'm wondering if that's a last-ditch plan Biden and Blinken have been thinking about since the beginning, and are now implementing in-secret. Biden wants US troops out of harm's way ASAP to try to save his treasonous ass, and people still in Kandahar are unlikely to get to Kabul airport in time.

DH was Lutheran when I met him. I took him to a funeral at my Catholic church and afterward we went downstairs and had a reception, naturally with beer, and Father brought his bottle of Jamesons for the toast. DH was gobsmacked. Lutherans might brew some strong coffee, but not booze.
Now, he's a devout Catholic. I won't say it was the beer....

Because, in essence, this is the difference between the spike protein based vaccines (pfizer, Astra-Zeneca and Jansen), and natural immunity from having the disease. When exposed to whole virus (whether from vaccination or disease), the immune system gets multiple protein elements of the virus (capsule, spike, binding proteins, etc.) to imprint off of, not just the spike, and thus a more robust and well rounded immune response. Less likely to be thrown off track by a single amino acid mutation, more "data points" to identify the bad guy.

The peace and quiet and lack of neighbors trumps all yer little gadgets hands down and twice on Sundays. Looking at my Amish built wood cook stove as I type. Sole source of heat. If I get lazy and don't keep it damped right, I have to open a few windows to make it bearable. When I go outside later and walk by my 9 cord full wood shed I'll think about yer heat bill NG and TP.

Gramma's farmhouse was like that in the late 50's/early 60's. Only two (big) rooms downstairs and small bedrooms upstairs but the stove kept the place pretty well heated when needed. In the dead of winter, Grammi would stack the quilts on top of you so thick that you hurt all over when you got up in the morning.
You'd stumble downstairs for heat, hot coffee - even the kids - and bacon or ham and biscuits.

Sounds like business opportunity for a small shop to reverse engineer those modules and make replacements. A little RasPi, a little 3-D printing to get the housing right, would probably work better than the originals.

I did the same thing. Shelled out not a small sum for the T-Detect antibody test. Results were negative because of one of the following:
Exposure was too long ago to be detected.
False negative.
We don't know.
At this point, I figure everyone has been exposed to C-19. Some people have a natural immunity to it. Pretty soon, 2/3 of us will have no immunity to any bugs.

My understanding is that the antibody test may not give an accurate result if too much time has passed. Three months? There is a tcell test which is more definitive. I don't know how readily available it is or how expensive it is. Tcells for SARS appear to reside for a long period. Studies on some of the survivors of SARS 1 IN 2003 showed the presence of tcells 13 years later. Will it make a difference if she can show she has had the vid? State of Washington could care less. Right now our hope rests on the religious exemption which has to be signed off by an MD. Figure that one out. Publius is definitely the one to query on that subject. He is a wealth of information.

But as noted I don't want the filth, or possibly lead residue, from using lubed lead bullets in the lever rifle. But I'd welcome the savings of *coated* lead, no lube, if they are good on leading. I'd like to see one of the big consumer battery companies, like Duracell or Energizer do a stunt, like racing a stock Tesla across country against a Tesla modified to use a massive package of alkaline D-cells. Work out the range of the car on alkaline batteries, and have replacement batteries staged at appropriate stops along the way. If the battery swap took only ten minutes, their car should win in a walk.

Re the antibody test. If naturally exposed, those will fade over time below detectable levels. How long it takes, I don't know -- I'm sure it varies with the individual somewhat.
The T-cell test is something called "T-detect". It will detect T-cell memory. It costs about $150 from what I can see.

We just don't have the battery technology to support them in a way that makes any sense at all. This study just came out at the NEJM yesterday. It's the first real study that attempts to look the ClotShot risk. This is based on Israeli data:

Read that carefully. Elevated risk of myocarditis, lymphodenopathy, appendicitus, and shingles are what stick out above background. Read it carefully.
They don't look at risk factors vs age, at least not in the headline data. I'm seeing some stiff that based on some data here, the myocarditis risk may be as high as 1/5000 for teenaged boys.
Can you believe appendicitus? But that's what they found.

Look at Crown Vics or Grand Marquis or Town Cars, 98-11.They aren't as cheap for nice ones as they used to be but they are really in that technology sweet spot. They will get mid to high 20s on the freeway in good tune if you don't use the pedal real hard.

Yes indeed. The problem is the spike protein, which is quite pathogenic to endothelial tissue. I've read some stuff on the mechanism of this, and IIRC it may have to do with the antibodies to the spike interacting with that tissue somehow.
In those severe cases where the lungs start "clogging up", it is massive amounts of the spike protein that do this. If remember venilators don't do too well, and it has to do with that.
I think most of these vaccine adverse events are related to this spike protein "insult".

Speaking of such - well, kinda - I was also amazed to learn not long ago that the powder granules (cylindrical, extruded, 2 inches in length) used in the powder bags for the 16-in naval rifles (Iowa-class battleships) were *stacked* in the bags. Haven't learned yet if that were automated somehow, but trying to imagine a person stacking those little cylinders - 110 lbs worth - inside those silk bags.
Six of the bags for a war-shot. Three bags, weighed a bit less, and not stacked, powder just poured in - for practice loads. So 650-650 lbs for a war-shot.
Whereas I'll use 5.4 grains of flattened ball powder with a 200-grain lead bullet in 45ACP.
Armor-piercing projectile, 12 million grains, 4.5 million grains of powder. I've determined I could never really afford to reload if I were shooting 16-inch naval artillery.

Before I hit the sack, while I posted about it when I got home, I'll update the ONT crowd (my peeps) on my jury duty experience. It's done.
We didn't have to hear a single case. We just sat around in the little podunk courtroom, in reserve in case we were needed. The magistrate was a personable fellow. He conducted business sort of like Andy Griffith wearing his Justice of the Peace hat.
All of the cases were penny ante stuff, criminal, involving traffic violations, some trespassing, and one "simple possession of marijuana". Most of the defendants plead out before trial. This was conducted in the judge's office (can't say chambers, because there was nothing chamber like about it).

Are you thinking about Alexandr Karelin? It wasn't just those Olympics. His entire career was one of the most dominant athletic careers of any sport, ever. He was a truly scary guy. He had like eight or nine hundred wins and maybe two or three losses. But the best part was that his last match he lost out on the gold medal to an American, Rulon Gardner. It was controversial and it pissed off the Soviets so it made me happy. Rulon winning the gold over Karelin is considered one of the greatest upsets in sports history.

NOT GUILTY. Thank you ladies and gentlemen. Y'all can go home now. He also informed us that two bench trials he held in office were also not guilty on account of the cops not showing up to prosecute.
With a wink, as we left, he informed us that the Greenvile County Sheriff's Dept. batting average on showing up for trial wasn't too great of late and to keep that in mind next time we got a ticket.

Oh, flu vaccines. They are sterilizing (I looked it up) for the strains they target. Not much use for new strains they don't target. But they are sterilizing for the virus strains they target.
Now, the confidence interval of studies looking at this goes through zero for prevention of hospitalization an death. In fact, a recent study looking at UK data (one of the authors was from Clempson, BTW) found no effect on hospitalization and death from the flu.
But, the vaccines are pretty safe. They are likely worthless, but in VAERS data, you'll find little adverse events associated with them.

Not enough data to really tell. All the "vaccines" released to date are spike-only, targeting immune response to a single spike epitope of the original "Wuhan classic" virus. Which virus is not longer in circulation -- it doesn't exist -- due to rapid mutation/selection in the wild. The delta variant is currently the most circulating variant. It's spike is already a few codons away from the Classic.

The J&J shot is an "adenovirus vector" vaccine. It gets your cells (some of them) to display spike protein to your immune system, same as they all do. It just does it via different means from the mRNA shots such as Pfizer and Moderna.
They all induce immune response to the Wuhan classic spike protein.

Re sterilizing vaccines. Polio. For decades, the standard course of polio vaccination for children in the US consisted of both the OPV (oral, Sabin) and the IPV (injectable, Salk).
Why two? The OPV is sterilizing. The IPV is not. The IPV prevents paralytic polio, period, but it is not sterlizing. It will allows infection in the gut, but will not allow it to progress into the rest of the system that could result in a bad case of polio.
The OPV, while sterilizing, has about 1 - 3 chance per million of becoming unattenuated (OPV is an attenuated virus) and causing active polio. The IPV would kill that. So we gave both to prevent 1 in a million of causing active polio.
Now, it was determined that by about 1990 or so, the "wild polio" infection in the US was eliminated. We waited 10 years, until 2000. Then we switched to just using the IPV, non-sterilizing. There is no active infection to worry about, and thus no immune escape pressure to worry about.
