US "Intelligence" Community Decides to Pretend It Can't Answer Where Covid Came From

"We may never know who is responsible," they promised their Chinese partners.

President Joe Biden is set to be briefed on the U.S. intelligence community's investigation into how COVID-19 started, with the report likely to disappoint in delivering clear answers about the deadly pandemic's origin in China.

Biden in May ordered aides to work to resolve disputes among intelligence agencies examining rival theories about how the novel coronavirus started, including a once-dismissed theory about the possibility of a laboratory accident in China, as well as that the virus originated naturally with animals, such as bats or birds.

A 90-day intelligence review the president ordered is due on Tuesday, according to White House press secretary Jen Psaki, with the release of unclassified portions likely to take a few days longer.

Yet three U.S. government officials and a fourth person familiar with the scope of the investigation said they did not expect the review to lead to firm conclusions after China stymied earlier international efforts to gather key information on the ground.

Instead, one official said the report would likely point to additional lines of inquiry that officials could pursue, including demands of China that are likely to further ratchet up tensions with Beijing at a time when the country's ties with Washington are at their lowest point in decades.

"It's basically impossible to have a proper investigation if one of the main parties doesn’t want to cooperate," said Thomas Wright, Brookings Institution senior fellow and co-author of "Aftershocks," a book about the pandemic with Biden's Under Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl. "We need to proceed as if both hypotheses are true."

...

U.S. spy agencies initially strongly favored the explanation that the virus originated in nature.

A team led by the World Health Organization (WHO) that spent four weeks in and around Wuhan in January and February said the virus had probably been transmitted from bats to humans through another animal.

But their March report here, which was written jointly with Chinese scientists and concluded that the lab theory was "extremely unlikely," did not satisfy Washington.

People familiar with intelligence reporting have said that there has been little corroboration over recent months that the virus had spread widely and naturally amongst wild animals.

Meanwhile, China has refused to give U.S. researchers the kind of access to the Wuhan lab and officials there that the U.S. believes it would need to definitively try to determine the virus' origins.

And what conclusions can you draw from that...?

#Defund. This is just the Secret Police of the Democrat Party.

53 The don;t know the origin because they don;t WANT to know the origin.

As has been said before: to correctly identify that it was intentially made and intentionally allowed to spread worldwide (thanks to China hiding the lab leak), it was an act of war.

To acknowledge that is to put Biden and the US Congress in position to respond accordingly. None of them want to do that, whether it's because they are paid well by China or they simply would prefer not to go down that ugly road due to cowardice.

China started a biowar war and no one world leadership has the stomes to do anything about it. Holy sh#t.

129 On October 23, 1983, we lost 243 Marines in Lebanon, to a terrorist attack which used a Garbage Truck as a huge bomb.

Documents ACCIDENTALLY DECLASSIFIED, showed the US knew, within days, that the Truck had been designed in Iran, built in Iran, then driven across Iraq, to get to Lebanon. Yet the US Public was NOT told of this positive intelligence, because Reagan decided the anger of the American People, would be a detriment to fighting the Cold War against the Soviet Union.

So, he later sent the Marines who were SUPPOSED to relieve MARG2-83, the unit that lost the Marines, to invade Grenada instead of relieving them on station when they were supposed to... meaning that unit got home late... and unlike other cruises, came in on a dark cold rainy day, to no fanfare at all.... I guess the Bands were all busy cleaning up after the Parades from the Grenada invasion.

Our country has a LONG history, of our political 'Leaders' not telling the public the truth.

Maybe, but it seems pretty unnecessary. Occam's razor says someone in the lab got sick, brought it outside the lab, and kaboom.

China could have shut the city down, but didn't (on purpose in my opinion). Trump shut down travel but it was too little too late.

I don't think our IC's involvement was needed.

194 Reply from earlier thread, since I fell asleep:

I've only masked willingly twice since this whole mess began. Once at the funeral home after my husband died (not much choice there) and once at the hairdresser's last week -- accepting one temporary inconvenience to get rid of a much greater long-term one.

So yeah, I've folded a couple of times. But as a general rule, I do not mask, and since I had a stroke due to a clot a few years ago, I'm certainly not getting the covid vax without being held down at gunpoint.

Otherwise, my age and physical weakness preclude me getting into any physical confrontations. But I can and do resist passively as much as I can, and continue my personal ministry of making rosaries (yeah, I have to buy components, so no not-buying for me).

197 122 Some Moron the other day sent a link to a song by a woman called "Rachel Sweet." I listened to a bit more. She does pop music pretty well, has a nice voice and is very catchy. If she had happened just a few years later, she might have given Madonna a run for her money in girl-led pop.

That was me. I've been on a Rachel Sweet kick lately.

Her version of Dusty Springfield's "Stay Awhile" done up in Spectorian wall-of-sound glory is my current earworm. Should have been a massive hit. In parts of OH, I guess it was. She co-wrote "Shadows of the Night" too, big hit for Pat Benatar.

IIRC the Volt's the hybrid and the Bolt's the pure battery car.

Worth noting: the Volt is a series hybrid, meaning the gas engine only drives a generator. It's theoretically more efficient since it can run at a constant RPM, but in practice GM hasn't gotten there yet. The Toyota hybrids are parallel, where the gas engine can move the car even if the electric stuff fails.

Posted by: Ian S. at August 24, 2021 12:41 PM (6XLoz)

I guess they've changed it. The original Volt's only got about 25 miles on battery, then the rest of the time, it ran on a 4-cyl engine.

Re boosters. The boosters they are giving now are still "Wuhan classic" spike-only. This would be as problematic for ADE as the original.

Now, updated boosters. In that Japanese paper they showed that mice vaccinated with an updated delta spike antigen defeated it.

However, they did not look at such a delta booster on top of the other. OAS (original antigenic sin) will reduce the effectiveness of that. Oh, and Vanden Bossche warned about that a couple of months ago, too.

From the civilian cabinet. In prior times, these people would be weeping on stage as they quit and beg for forgiveness. They're possibly (though unlikely) be prosecutions afterward. Once done, someone better (hopefully) would be promoted to try to clean up the mess.

That is not happening, and it is not happening for two reasons:
1. There is no accountability and no honor. These people won't quit because they know no one will make them. They are above the law, above honor, above accountability.
2. There is no one else in these institutions to do the job (or at least to do it differently). It may well be - terrifying and sickening as the notion may be - that these men in charge now are the best to be found in these organizations.

Posted by: bonhomme at August 24, 2021 12:41 PM (i0wNm)

that war might be bigger than North vs South, Crossbows vs Longbows.

There are only a tiny handful of world cuisines. I judge them by how much far aflung countries still want to eat those foods. Wine is the same way. Almost every country produces wine in some form, but only five or six export the stuff and make a lot of cash on the trade.

the five great world cuisines are French, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, and in some ways, American. To say Italian is only about different pasta shapes is to not know it at all. To say Chinese is about take out is to not know it either. I am probably as critical of China and Chinese junk goods as anyone. But it is a great world cuisine, the key is to find someone who can make it.

There would be those ejected, and there would be those resigning in disgust.

The last time I'm aware of that a high-level Democrat was ejected for gross incompetence was Les Aspin, Clinton's SecDef during Mogadishu. He was the 'role model' for all Hillary's ass-covering over Libya, she woke up every morning muttering "Please Goddess, let this not be the day I'm given the Aspin".

Cabinet, sub-cabinet, etc. Democrats do not resign over policy disagreements because by the time they get to the top they're 'made', they know their professional and social future and comfort depends on them remaining part of the mob.

Joe Mannix - I read your (very good) piece a couple days ago, and you brought up nepotism.

I think that is a symptom, and you hit the cause in that comment. First comes lack of accountability. People not getting punished for failure, or there not being measures for success (related but very different)

That causes nepotism. Anyway I had a thoughts here. There was a video I saw a while back about WWII generals and how often they were relieved. Without that penalty for failure you end up with a ruling class instead of a meritocracy.

392 much of Italy doesn't even eat pasta or pizza regularly, it is a thing from a certain place in that country. What we call "Italian" is based on the food of a very particular demographic from Southern Italy that immigrated to this nation. Even those guys don't make the food from their homeland, they used their ideas with the ingredients they could find here.

WE are a meat eating country and always have been. You go to Italy, Spain, or wherever, and they eat fish. There was a famous line in the Sopranos when Carmella asked Tony about how great the food was in Italy, he answered, " A lot of fish". That tiny line said a lot really. It was the difference between Italian Americans and the actual country. Not everything you dream about is going to be as you think it will be.

Yeah. Mexican was a bold addition to that list. Some comedian used to joke. So refried beans, ground meat, spices, taco shell, thats a taco. Now a burrito, completely different, that is ground meat, refried beans and spices, in a wrap. And then there is the enchilada

But I am willing to admit I do not know about REAL Mexican food. Which I am sure has many interesting dishes.

I think a deal was made early on. Maybe even Trump agreed to that.
But the towlieban would make that at the top of their demands for a deal that bagram have no foreign troops. That is their whole thing - not foreigners on their land. I think the chinese, russians, and iranians would demand the same.

Which is exactly why we should have kept it, but I am guessing we agreed to move out of it first based on their demands. Taking it back would be hell. But I think it needs to be done after the massacre.

I heard someone talking about the last G7 meeting as proof that this whole sh*tshow was done on purpose (part of Obama's Arab Spring / Muslim Brotherhood strategy).

Apparently Joe stood up and gave a great speech about how the US had Britain and France's backs and they'd be there for the entirety and blah blah blah.

And then Joe abandoned them. And it was because if the European nations had known the US planned to abandon them, they could've / would've strengthened the region so that what is happening now wouldn't have happened.

The administration did it on purpose so that the Taliban could have the country.

I have never in my life had a "delicacy" that wasn't absolutely awful.

look at Spain and Italy. They love salt cod. The Bacalao fritters in Spain are to die for. It is salt cod, reconstituted, and deep fried. We don't even have that as a minor ingredient. They learned to love it because they would send fishing vessels far afield and the only way to preserve the fish was salting it.
