Thank you, sir. I guess I'm just too stubborn to quit or to give up. The first couple of years were fairly tough, but better than the alternative had been or would be. Since then I've been trudging along, sometimes leaping lightly, sometimes stuck in personal mud, but I really don't recall the last time I was *really* tempted to pick up a drink.

My symptoms unfortunately are hanging on. Still diarhhea, bloating and (very short) bouts of nausea.
I made the mistake of waiting until noon yesterday to see if I could have a telehealth appointment with a doc at my regular clinic, in the hope my doctor could prescribe something. Of course, nothing was available, so I'm stuck 'til Monday, when I plan to call first thing in the morning.
If things get any worse I'll go to a halfway decent walk-in clinic I know of in Seal Beach.

To Die For is when I first realized Nicole was an actress, not just a glamour girl. The character is by turns horrifying and almost funny, she is so clueless about some areas of human behavior while being an expert predator in others. (Rather like Mrs. Wolfus No. 2 was . . . though as far as I know she's never gotten anyone to kill for her. Of course I haven't seen her in almost 30 years.)
Buck Henry's adaptation of the novel is very well done, though the novel is almost a blueprint for the movie.

My previous boss took our office out to a fancy lunch in January of 2020, and the other 3 ordered a cocktail. I had my usual sparkling mineral water (I've outgrown sodas). Sorry, layperson here, I don't think I understand your point. With white bishop at c3 and black king in the corner, the king is in check and black has to do something about that. No piece is in position to take the bishop and king to b2 leaves it in check, so b1 appears to me to be the only option.
Maybe I'm unclear on the rules, but I assume I don't want to end the game by taking the queen first as that leaves black no legal move, but not in check, so I'm not sure if that counts as a win (in any case it doesn't bag the pawn).

That's in the city proper; the suburbs haven't followed suit. These are people who in many cases look nice, dress nice, speak well, comfortable lives, the whole bit. When I grew up, the bad guys were easy to spot - in the Westerns. Kinda greasy and grimy, poor english, hadn't shaved for a couple days.

Further south, in NC. We've had tons of rain the last few days- lots of thunderstorms. Not sure if it was directly related to the hurricane but it moved out of here around 1:00. I guess it's hitting your area now.

I have to agree here, MP4. What if you're taking the Antabuse, and unknown to you, something you drink has a tiny bit of alcohol in it? I never thought of going sober that way, because of such a scenario, and also because to me it felt as though I would be holding a sword over my own head. And if I were doing that, well, it would be pretty easy to take the sword down. . . .

But no, Americans cheerfully vote for types like President Kinnock. If masks lack efficacy in preventing transmission of C19, which they almost certainly do, and as was known from decades of research on exactly this question (C19 virions/transmission would not differ mechanically from other ILIs), then ..... there's no discussion.
Not about "freedom". Nor about the fact that ages 0-20 face literally no significant risk from C19 (nor that they are not very good transmitters thereof). Nor about how long, where, under what conditions, which kinds of masks (anything except a separate air supply).
So while all these other, separate, dependent issues also have clear answers against masks, they don't even arise. And yet 95% of the arguments are about details based on the false premise that they do work. Gee I wonder how our society (and, apparently, much of the world) has inflicted so much damage and degradation on itself for no good reason. Perhaps inability for even the most basic logical reasoning and critical thinking could be involved.

I do this, and I can tell you that it does take time. I've gotten it down to about a six-hour process from start to finish. But that's mostly because both dogs eat different things (allergies), and are different weights, and I divide the food into meal-sized containers for the week.
Would cut a couple of hours out if I put it all in a big container and scooped it out as needed.
