Civil Disobedience [Diogenes]

CD03.JPG

Since our so-called election, we have seen a lot of references here to Civil Disobedience (CD). I may have even made a few myself. So lets talk about it. Just what is it and how might it work?

DISCLAIMER: I am not an expert. I’ve attended a few marches. Early in my Army career I was taught how to go into a protest and just walk around, observe, and see how it was being run. I quickly learned to pick out who was in charge, who was directing things, who was “security” and who was the media face. It was a fascinating experience and actually kinda fun…if you didn’t get caught.

Simply put, CD is the refusal to obey the demands or commands of a government, usually without resorting to violence or more active measures, and with the goal of illuminating a problem to affect change. Thoreau wrote in Civil Disobedience (184 that CD espouses the need to prioritize one's conscience over the dictates of laws. When a government is unjust, people should refuse to follow the law and distance themselves from the government in general. Way to go Hank!

CD 06.jpg

CD isn’t new. Sophocles talked about it in his play Antigone. Étienne de La Boétie was one of the first to propose the strategy of non-cooperation in 1552. More current examples are the Tea Party, Women’s Suffrage, Rosa Parks, Martin L. King, and East Berliners in 1989. No doubt you Hordemates can cite more.

So why resort to CD? Too often we say Oh well, there is nothing we can do. Yet we genuinely feel the moral outrage and the need to do something, anything, when the government does something that undermines the principles our Constitution. So what to do?

Think ahead. Get organized. Pick that onerous law/policy you want to change. This will be obvious but be clear at least in your own thinking.

CD 02.JPG

Pick the Act. What specifically do you want to do? Are you alone or in a small group? A larger group? This affects what you can and should do. Some actions seek to stop or interrupt daily events such as sit-ins and blocking freeways. But choose carefully. A pissed off public doesn’t help. These direct actions create a dilemma for authorities. Do they concede or risk looking heavy handed in their response?

CD 05.jpg

Is there a danger of arrest? Yup. Most governments understand protests, but do not allow CD as an excuse for breaking the law. If arrested, decide ahead of time if you cooperate with authorities or resist? Also consider how will you plead? Some CD advocates say to fight the charges and use the court as a platform to make your point. Others say just accept the consequences as many victimless crimes of protest result in a simple slap on the wrist.

So how to proceed? Tactics. If acting alone, I like the little post-it notes. Nothing more fun than slapping a few of them around town. “Love Inflation? Vote Democrat!” “Joe Must Go!” You get the idea. And yard signs. Put them up. Just a couple. See what happens.

Small groups can do these and more. A mini-sit-in. Wear the same shirt. Put flags on your trucks and do a convoy. Laugh at your targets. Humor is fun and infectious. It gets people on our side.

CD 04.jpg

Large groups have other considerations, but the key is organization. Large groups draw people. Take the time to think ahead about communications, security, command and control, and reactions if attacked. Liaise with the police. Stay connected to your people. Stay organized. Use radios, cell phones and social media. And…it’s probably not a good idea to be armed. Lastly seek legal advice, ahead of time for sure, but on site if possible.

Many of us are not happy with the way things are in America today. We know we have a voice but have no idea how to use it. Just a little leadership, a little organization, and the results can be astounding.

17 There were people who, long before the events, knew Charlottesville and Jan Six were infiltrated by the left (and the government), and went anyway.

If you went to those events, and got caught up in the excitement, you were led there by people who were NOT on your side.

This is a key point about "CD" that needs to be shouted. Loudly and often. DO NOT TRUST THAT THE EVENT YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN WAS ORGANIZED BY YOUR SIDE!

A lot to this.
Many of you have seen me write before Get Organized. Organization can be nothing more than a groups of frineds, buddies from the VFW, a church group...who knows???
There is a time a place for big events and protests...where all the organization takes place. But simple little individual protests...they too can have an impact.

I have to wear a mask into work, and I'm supposed to wear one when I'm within the virus zone with customers.

If they institute the mandate for businesses again, and there's NO REASON they should where I live, I have some masks that are editorial. I think I will also have to find one with a yellow star on it.

32 Misdirection. It is quite easy to make a facsimile of your local store's mask/vax notice using same colors and fonts. One could change the wording slightly, then stick it to the store window right next to their sign. If need beone could have a friend create a diversion in the produce aisle as the faux sign is mounteed.

I made a point of driving into town every day and go in to some store without a mask. I just remember how encouraging it felt when you saw someone else going maskless.

Now, all the stores have signs saying the CDC has changed guidance again and everyone *should* wear masks, but the dam has broken.

39 In 2020 at the 2A rally in Richmond sra blaster and I went on our own not in a group. I had heard that cell phones might be jammed purposely and often in large gatherings the cells get overwhelmed which effectively does the same thing.

I participate in a group drive annually that uses Baofeng radios (handheld hams) on FRS channels. This is not technically legal. But we do. So we took those radios in case we got separated and cells did not work.

Apparently these radios are popular with preppers. There were lots of people on the FRS channels at this rally. So a couple of things. I recommend these radios they are about $25. Second make a commo plan. If you are planning to use a channel and it has traffic go to plan B, C, and so on.

I would never communicate any genuine thought or opinion I have on Farcebook, Twatter, or in the comments section of any site that uses Googley or Farcebook or any other "social media" system for their comments.

I have friends who post their screeds on Farcebook. I don't use Farcebook, but I keep an account, because I have friends who do. I'm thinking of deleting, because when the government decides guilt by association is a thing, I have some old army pals who will be getting me in trouble.

42 I, like many others I suspect, don't like the direction our country is taking and think that somebody (else) ought to do something. I have done only one thing that contained a real risk of arrest and I wasn't arrested.

I used to read about the early German Hitler resisters and think, "Why did you do that? You should've known you couldn't stop them." Now that our country is pursuing Nazi like policies, I find that, although I feel powerless, that I can't just shut up and conform. Meanwhile, I'm awaiting the appearance of a hero.

56 Stores with mask mandates:

Passive-aggressiveness

Push the issue while feigning lack of awareness and feigning willingness to comply. Make the store use employee time and energy to tell you to put on a mask. "Oh, I thought the governor cancelled that..." Tell them you left yours at home, do they have one you can wear? Feign putting it on as you walk on. After that employee is gone, put it in your pocket. Shop until another employee says something. Repeat as above.

Take your filled shopping cart to the checkout. If they tell you to mask up, apologize profusely and tell them you've decided to take your business elsewhere. Walk out leaving them to restock the items in your cart.

75 Masking...

I posted this the other day:
If I'm forced to wear a mask while dealing with another person I mumble. The other person will ask me to repeat myself, or tell me to speak up... whatever. I just keep mumbling. They become frustrated so I pull my mask off and speak normally. I do the same to them until the mask comes off or they give up and go away.

1) Do not, under any circumstances, bring a cell phone to any protest. Leave it home turned on. This is the easiest way the government can find you.

2) Related, do not put anything on social media. None. Don't care what platform. Just don't.

3) Leave your credit cards home. Use cash only.

4) If there is a reason to mask up and wear a hat -- this is it. It works for Andy Tifa -- so mimic their tactic. Need to conceal your identity.

Sometimes it's just the little things. When the grocery store still had their two entries marked for "in" and "out" (both leading to the same open space, divided by... upturned shopping carts), Milady and I regularly walked in the "out" door. One of the checkers saw us doing so and said, "rebels!" With a smile. I think it was a smile, behind her mask. Never paid any attention to the aisle-traffic direction stickers, either. I kind-of like the unsociable distancing thing, though. The further away folks are from me, the better.

122 I've only had one person ever say to me, you have to put a mask on, and that was when I was forced to go to NYC last month

Had to check up on my 86-year-old spinster aunt whom I hadn't seen since before the plandemic. No one else in the family even contacts her but that's a whole other story.

She wanted to go into a pharmacy to check her BP, which is where I was prevented from going further without that mask. The guard at the door didn't lay a hand on me, but if he did, I doubt I would have received much sympathy from the other mask Nazis in the area anyway.

If my aunt didn't need help walking, I would have stayed outside.

It was a very uncomfortable feeling, and I was never so glad to get home. I feel really badly for those of you who have to endure this day after day.

Otherwise, living in a red city in the free state of Florida, I encounter very little issues with masks. Dirty looks from some individuals, yes. But no one has stopped me from coming in a store, and we don't mask up at the office.

232 "Born in the middle of an oppressive Roman Empire, even the words used to announce His birth were considered provocative, to say the least (Lk 2:10-11). By adopting language usually used to announce a new emperor, the angels illegally claimed that Jesus, not Caesar, was the true king, responsible for bringing peace and justice to the earth.

The very first public act of Jesus and the disciples were to break the law of the land by picking grain on the Sabbath (Mk 2:23). This was just the first of many provocative, rule-breaking actions.

Ultimately, Jesus was executed as a rebel by the establishment, who found him too great a threat. The God of the entire universe chose to be killed as a criminal on a cross, hanging between two felons. It was the ultimate act of subversive love and vulnerability. And that one beautiful act changed literally everything."

"Perhaps surprisingly for some, the Bible is chock full of examples of clashes over laws laid down by unjust rulers. Here are ten examples of civil disobedience straight from scripture..."

The Tea Party was controlled opposition to divert energy away from the rising favorability of nationalism in America. It was a ConInc and NeoCon and NeoLiberal Op funded by the same people that push Anti-White, Anti-Christian, SJW, Afro-Centric propaganda aka South African Maoism down our throats.

FRS was restricted to 500mW last I checked, GMRS bands can use up to 5W. Technically you're supposed to register with the FCC to operate on GMRS bands but I think I might be one of about four people who ever actually did that. GMRS will have more range because it allows higher transmit power.

I like Motorola for the little radios, the IPX7 ones are waterproof and a lot of them have NOAA weather band with alerts.

324 In completely different ways, calling either America's or China's 1978 activities in Vietnam "military adventurism" is pretty absurd, but whatever. Vietnam's cultural identity (modern) is to a great extent "we're not China", understandable for a small country/language group bordering the behemoth. They even celebrate a colonial imposition - latinization of the written language - because it blurs that yuuuge Chinese influence.

345 194 Regarding FRS and GMRS radios -- what are people's preferences one vs the other?

Radio brands to recommend? Midland?
Posted by: Our Country is Screwed at August 22, 2021 12:00 PM (D3cJf)

People debate the legality of the Baofengs on FRS/GMRS, saying oh if you use it .5w or whatever it is legal. No, it is not, under any circumstance, legal to operate on the FRS/GMRS bands. The legal FRS and GMRS radios have fixed antennas. And GMRS does have a lifetime licensing fee I don't know how many people pay it.

Everything is made in China but the brands you know like Motorola or Midland are expensive.

If you intend to use a GMRS or FRS radio on a regular basis, buy a legal one. It costs more, but it will keep you out of trouble. If you need an occasional use radio that you have in your bugout bag, get a Baofeng and learn to program it (manually or with Chirp). Heck, buy a handful of them.

In Warshington State, the powers that be have decided that 3 ft social distancing in the classroom is OK but 6 ft everywhere else. Why? Because the classrooms can't fit the kids in at 6 ft. LOL.

436 Was just talking with the wife this very morning about the capitulation of churches to the state during lockdowns. Not that they weren't being careful at first like we all were, with all that was unknown, but that as the hand of government got heavier there was no pushback at all.
For sheriffs to threaten arrest of worshipers who stay in their cars to listen to a radio broadcast of Easter service in a church parking lot is indeed heavy handed.
That the church didn't proclaim their right to do so and follow through is weakness, and cedes authority of the church to civil power. They had an opportunity to allow their parishioners to civilly disobey if they chose, and put the onus on government to overstep in a very visible way.
White clergy of old line Christian faiths should be studying up on the tactics employed by black churches in the civil rights era. They might be suprised how many of their flock would be willing to be arrested in suit and tie for a cause.

American Flag magnet on each front door. Gadsden Flag magnet on each back door. Thin Blue Line Flag on LH side rear and Ace of Spades HQ Spade-shaped magnet on RH side rear.

Went to stickylife.com to create the Ace of Spades HQ magnet. Black, in shape of spade, "Ace of Spades HQ" in middle, below has "ace.mu.nu" site address and top has skull and crossbones pirate flag.

I also have the car rearview mirror Ace of Spades HQ chain from Jewells hanging from my rearview mirror. And everywhere I go, I usually have a track list of Tom MacDonald songs that I blare from my radio.

I make a point to always drive through downtown Rochester, MI to give a nice reality-check to all the Oakland University crowd who typically frequent there.

Don't know if anyone is reading this but...

It might not be much, but when I walk my kids to school, I go maskless even in the scrum of parents and children being dropped off. I see a few others dads doing the same. One of these days I'll strike up a conversation to begin forming alliances.

Remember im InCali, so masks are everywhere... again.

443 That picture of the Nazis. There're 2-3 guys in the upper left who aren't saluting. Why does just the one guy get credit?

444 God loves New Jersey weather-wise, but Sandy fucked up the state but good.
The damage was not insignificant.

Of course, as always, the damage was dealt capriciously. Where I live, we lost power for three says. A few blocks away didn't lose power at all. Across town, the power was out two weeks.

I thought about this one while I was getting gainz, and I've decided it's a good tactic in stores against us. Like Whole Foods. If you work there, too bad. I work in a place where the leaders are liberals, and if y'all make it harder for us to work that's fine, please keep raising the costs.

447 Start by never wearing a mask. When asked politically agree while ridiculing the reasoning.

450 Thanks, Diogenes. I really liked your essay and the suggestions offered by yourself and others. I am in the sticky notes and lawn sign camp.

451 I've seen quite a large number of anti-biden graffiti around NYC from before and even after the election. Could be one person, but it's been in different areas. In Chinatown there was stickers with "Vote Joe, Invest in Yuan," "Arrest Hunter Biden" on the Bowery, "He Won" next to a cartoon of Trump as Ryu from Street Fighter in Chelsea, A poster of Ruth Bader Ginsberg with a Hitler mustache in Tribeca (forgot what the writing on it was) and tons of different plays on the election being stolen.

Hopefully this is a sign that there is some underlying opposition even here in NYC.

452 I've been engaging in very small scale civil disobedience for several years now. I live in a very blue area, and most of the parking lots, especially at government buildings (libraries and rec centers) have spaces reserved for "low emitting and fuel efficient vehicles". I love to park my Nissan Rogue in these spaces. Many times there are several spaces, and there all empty, but when I leave other regular cars have parked in the other " low E" parking spaces. I have also been known to park in the spaces that are charging stations for electric vehicles.
