Administration figures are already leaking that this plan is not a plan at all. It's a fantasy.

President Joe Biden's pledge to evacuate thousands more at-risk Afghans who worked for the U.S. government will run into the cold reality of a fast-closing window of time, insecurity all over Afghanistan and major logistical hurdles.
As one U.S. official told Reuters "too many things have to go 100 percent correctly" to execute the plan to move out those going through the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) process. The Pentagon is aiming to evacuate up to 22,000 SIV applicants, their families and other at-risk people.
But officials and refugee resettlement groups said that number, while admirable, will be much more difficult to reach now that the Taliban have seized the capital Kabul and most of the country.
Groups that work with refugees vigorously disputed Biden's assertion in a speech on Monday that many applicants had not wanted to leave Afghanistan earlier.
Biden announced his intent to start evacuating at-risk Afghans in July, despite calls by lawmakers and refugee groups to do so months earlier. Since July, only 2,000 Afghans have been flown to the United States.
"It's a nice goal to have, but realistically it's going to be a challenge," the U.S. official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said of the 22,000-person benchmark.
The hope is to fly out between 5,000 and 9,000 per day when the Pentagon reaches full capacity with 6,000 troops on the ground in Kabul. Only 4,000 troops have reached Kabul so far.

Milley lies again, claiming there was "NO indication" -- none! not a speck! -- that Afghanistan would collapse in 11 days.

That's a lie. Or at least the leaks say so: They say that he was repeatedly warned that Afghanistan's government and rent-a-thugs would disintegrate rapidly.

The Taliban is essentially a confederation of tribes. The people in it are fairly normal within the context of their environment and cultural norms. I think probably a fair number were Taliban plants that took the gravy, training, and arms, that the Americans were dishing out.

And not one single government employee lost their job or even got demoted or suspended because of their massive failures related to 9/11. Not one.

To understand that present, you have to understand the history that the main players are considering.

I said earlier that Biden thought barry was "brave" for the obl raid. By that, he only meant politically brave, which is insulting and shocking enough. The Raid had parallels to the Carter hostage rescue attempt (helicopters, deep in enemy territory, risky,....) and that turned out poorly for Carter. That is what he was thinking. It had upside, but it also had terrible downside in being comparable to what Carter did.

Now I won't go into political leaders and Min Max theory, but I think you can all figure out what a risk analysis would tell.

I think Biden saw this as "politically brave" to just pull everyone the fuck out. There is a tell in that his first comment seemed to be comparing it to Nixon (?!) and the Vietnam withdrawal, and his first concern was how quickly the public would forgive the embarrassment of losing a war. He planned that that would be short lived, and the upside of keeping a promise (A promise Trump was unable to keep) was worth it.
