I have suggested to FenSpouse that we go to a super market further away which has no "Mask Up" signs. The one we normally go to just put up official signs saying "According to CDC guidelines masks must be worn in this store." The other store must have decided they'd get more customers if they took down the mask up signs, or the owners are just sick of the entire thing.

It has a strong odor, could try wiping down metal and plastic parts with a generous thin coat, it will look spiffy, at the very least!

I've read enough horror stories about mice and wiring harness damage, I leave the hoods up on cars and trucks in the garage. On late model stuff, it can damn near total it.

Or, it's a bunch of citizens advocated for the policies they want. I've had this argument before. A religiously based policy preference is not a second class preference that needs to get to the back of the bus when the seculars come along. At least not in this country.

This is where I always segue into my argument that it's not the power of government that bothers me, it's the reach. If the voters of my county supported laws that totally harshed my mellow, I should be able to move to one more in tune with my desires. But if a state or national government is imposing one-size-fits-all laws, where am I to go?

202 Wiley Post and Will Rogers were flying a bastardized plane, one after-rigged with pontoons. This was unusual for Post, who was an excellent and experienced pilot. Rogers, an avid flyer who in many ways had popularized flying with his cross-country relief stops during the Depression, totally trusted Post. There is also some question that the plane's fuel delivery system had been compromised, and the steep take-off had contributed to the stall.

Hard to overestimate what a major figure Will Rogers was at the time. He was America's first multi-media personality. Started on stage with Ziegfeld Follies (became the star), most widely read newspaper columnist, number one radio star and movie star in 1935, and generally most well-known and beloved American celebrity. More people turned out for his funeral than any other figure at the time.

266 Morning peeps.

Decades ago when I lived in West Virginia you couldn't buy booze on Sundays. I believe at one point the law was modified in our county to allow beer and wine sales after 1PM which I assume was to allow folks to get out of church.

Interestingly, beer was sold most everywhere but any wine in a glass bottle was only sold in a liquor store. Much confusion with the local politicians about how wine coolers were to be addressed. Eventually they treated them as beer.

405 Decades ago when I lived in West Virginia you couldn't buy booze on Sundays.

As late as about 1971 here in Da Swamp, grocery stores were closed on Sundays, as were hardware stores. The liquor section of grocery stores (yes, you can buy booze right there in the grocery, no separate stores) would be roped off on election days.

This isn't "ending endless wars." This is American surrender, empowering our enemies, and ensuring our children and grandchildren will have to fight this war, at much higher cost.

I worked across the highway from that ABC Store and would watch the ATF agents sit in our parking lot waiting to see who left and drove into the next county, which was dry. They'd bust the perps, confiscate the booze and take said booze back to the ABC Store for resale. What a nice little racket they had going, all perfectly legal.

Alabama is a real nice place to be from.

Nephew's oldest daughter and husband bought a 5th wheel and we let them park it on our property. He just got out of the army after 7 years. His right knee was crushed during his 3rd deployment. Two of those were in Afghanistan. Seems to be a great kid. He borrowed the Mule yesterday and spent most of the day by himself up in the hills. His wife said he's struggling to grasp what the hell just happened. Going to try and take the kid shooting across the street today. No talk, just put some holes in the silhouettes and ring some steel.

Sure you can, and I am not insulting him.

You have a societal hypothesis at the ready find a film that tangentially touched on anything that can be twisted into a metaphor for said hypotheses and watch the fun begin.

A practical understanding of the artistic tradecraft allows the usage of the actual mechanics of making the medium to be a further commentary.

"The shadowy composure of the filming belies the ethereal metamorphosis of the pair into eldritch cyphers like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to Hamlet"....

anyone can do it when they put their mind to it.

Roger Eggbert made a living far outstripping his actual IQ acting like a pretentious precocious beach ball.

471 I have suggested to FenSpouse that we go to a super market further away which has no "Mask Up" signs. The one we normally go to just put up official signs saying "According to CDC guidelines masks must be worn in this store." The other store must have decided they'd get more customers if they took down the mask up signs, or the owners are just sick of the entire thing.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at August 15, 2021 05:44 AM (ai5jE)

I ignore such signs, and always have. No one has ever challenged me. At Kohl's, they had someone stationed at a table to offer masks to entering customers. I always smiled and said "No thanks!" and continue into the store. If anyone had ever insisted, I would leave and take my money with me.

There was only one time I complied, and that was when I was in a five and dime, and had been shopping for 15 minutes, having filled my basket with some hard-to-find items. I was already invested (and trying to avoid Amazon). The manager was apologetic, but said it was a city ordinance. So I put on my fake mask to complete my shopping, which lasted another 5 minutes. I think that was the only time I wore a mask in any but a medical setting.
