"It Felt Like a Meteor Had Struck The Earth:" Soyboy "Journalist" Describes the Traumatizing, Soul-Tearing Act of Firing an AR-15 at the Range

God save the world from effeminate weakling men, who, like runt curs, always feel compelled to bark at the world in a pitiful show of "force" because they're afraid of literally everything.

To experience the offerings of this temple to the Second Amendment, I paid for a lane for an hour ($1. I rented a Ruger 9mm pistol and a high-powered, semiautomatic AR-15-style rifle made by a company called Heckler & Koch ($35 each). (Parro and his staff reject the term "assault rifle" as inflammatory and imprecise and, in all cases, prefer the term "firearm" to "weapon.")

Say, since you're a journalist and all, could you maybe determine if he's right as a factual matter or nah...?

Leftwing myths and political folklore are never debunked -- they're always just chalked up as "differences of opinion."

I also picked up 100 rounds of ammo ($25 for 50 pistol rounds and $59 for 50 rifle rounds) and chose the standard six-bullseye target ($1.99) over the zombie or the gun-wielding bad guy daring me to shoot him in various highlighted organs.

Oooh, scary.

This guy is talking like he's never even seen pictures of a gun range. You see those paper targets all the time, just on the internet.

...

While the pistol was manageable, even comfortable to hold and fire, the rifle was a different beast altogether. Everything about it -- its weight, tactical scope and overall lethality -- was downright intimidating.

...

When ready, I lined up the target in the cross hairs, pulled the stock onto my shoulder, squeezed the trigger and -- BA-BOOM!!!!!

These are still undersized 5.56 mm rounds, right? They haven't modified this rifle to shoot .50 caliber rounds, right?

It is difficult to describe the impact -- physical and personal -- of that first shot. It felt like a meteor had struck the earth in front of me. A deep shock wave coursed through my body, the recoil rippling through my arms and right shoulder with astounding power. Being that close to an explosion of such magnitude -- controlled and focused as it was -- rattled me.

I composed myself and continued to fire round after concussive round, the puffs of acrid gunpowder smoke carried downrange by a powerful ventilation system. My accuracy gradually improved until it became easier to hit the target with the rifle from 25 yards than with the pistol from five.

There's a big takeaway from this journalist: Rifles are much more accurate than pistols.

Let me write that down. It might be on the test.

It was exhilarating, but I never got comfortable firing it. I'm not sure what scared me more -- the power of that weapon or the fact that I could have taken one home that day.

S a D, P*ssy.

More reactions from Twitchy.

Here's a literal 7-year-old girl firing this Terror-Cannon:

She seems to hold it together pretty well. Why couldn't this old "man"?

It's not that we have weak men. We have always had weak men. We have always had feminine men.

It's that the world has changed to valorize effeminacy, to treat male weakness as a virtue.

The world has made weak, effeminate men unashamed to be weak and effeminate -- proud of it, even.

And when you incentivize behaviors, you get more of it.

Many of you will no doubt recall the superbly-named Gersh Kuntzman, who similarly wet his manties while shooting the impossibly-powerful 5.56 mm AR-15.

That guy was such a pussy that even degenerate fatboy Friend to Pedophiles Rick Wilson dunked on him:

Remember the days when the liberal grifter "Republicans" still pretended to be conservative, just opposed to Trump? Because Trump "wasn't conservative enough" for these True Sons of Liberty?

Good times, good times.

21 I find similar amusement in calling an AR in .223/5.56 high powered. It is not comparable in recoil with main battle rifles of WWI, WWII, Korea, etc.

The guy would probably faint dead away seeing someone firing a 12 gauge shotgun with slugs or even buckshot.

Then there are the magnum rifles and the big bore safari type guns that kill at one end and maim at the other.

A final gun that had a huge "Wow" factor for me was a .50 caliber magnum pistol I shot at a range. That had a huge boom and big big recoil. My arm raised to like 60 degrees with each shot (fired one-handed).

There is a reason that it's seen as one of the best all around home defense weapons.

It's light, it's compact, it's easy to operate and more importantly, it's caliber and recoil handling allow women to be able to handle it comfortably.

These people are just so ignorant.

62 22 ace, a 30.06 has about 20 ft lbs of recoil, a .223/5.56 has about 5 ft lbs and some change. Changing the rifle's weight, whether gas operated or not, and porting along with ammo choice (bullet weight and powder used) can change that free recoil number a bit. No long rifle aside from .22 LR is very quiet firing on an indoor range primarily because of blast from escaping gases. Rifles that are ported can be particularly obnoxious.

Everybody with even a basic knowledge of firearms knows that the AR-15 'recoil' is utterly pathetic and just about the smallest possible. 91 whig - thanks for reply in last thread. Comment section, so not gonna ramble on, but exec summary: "equity jurisdiction" apart from direct near-term action involving actual parties misbehaving/injured sounds absurd, in principle, and in any case if this plenary social engineering power trumps 14th and other actual laws/protections, the whole system is rendered a meaningless joke. So we're right back where I started: affirmative action is an indefensible outrage, which is therefore rarely defended.

102 Finally figured out the click route to get to the comments. Going first to permalink to post and then to "access comments" didn't work.

The whole point of going to fire the guns is to push the "BAN THEM" narrative. Literally the whole point. If they're just as scary and horrifying and even sickening as they always said then of course there's no reason not to ban them!

Posted by: Anwyn at August 06, 2021 01:54 PM (NBnGZ)

103 Ah yes, another example of why they want to prevent YOU from having firearms. It's human nature to believe other people are pretty much like you, which is why the left is terrified of anyone having a gun.

Rogerb at hotair said it best a long, long time ago. Abridged here, but complete at Taxicab Depressions:

"The progressives believe that you obviously have a tendency to violence and lack the desire or self control to keep yourself from inflicting knee-jerk harm on others to get what you want, and, in order to keep you from being a danger to yourself or others, people who are smarter than you should be allowed to decide what is best for you.

In other words, they think you're basically just like them until you show them otherwise."

And is this wimp saying he went to a range, and they would have let him take a rifle home that day?

Honestly, looking at pics of that gunshop/range and living in CA, I'd have been like a 7 year old kid with a $20 in a candy store. Our local shop just now has a meager offering back in cabinets and on walls. Nothing sadder than an AR with a 10 round magazine. People usually say "does it come with a magazine?" and the answer is: There's one in there.

120 The media make two claims concurrently, and somehow people fall for it:
1. AR-15s and other rifles are so barbarically powerful that using them is like lassoing and earthquake or riding a tsunami. There's no reason anyone needs or can justify having that kind of destructive power.
2. AR-15s represent a dangerous proliferation because they're compact, transportable, light, easy to use and so manageable that even a child could do it, and as a result they represent a tremendous threat.

123 80, Ah yes, bolt actions can still have recoil reduced by porting the barrel (causes escaping gases to be diverted from recoiling backwards) and ammo choice. Due to physics, heavier bullets recoil more than lighter ones but that is balanced somewhat by the amount of gases produced that go out the bore. For best effect, heavier bullets require slower burning powders and lighter bullets faster ones.

Felt recoil also is a factor of stocks used as well as the recoil pads if any along with clothing. Then there is the whole physical conditioning issue as heavier muscles in the shoulder area can protect somewhat from the effects of recoil.

153 Everything about an AR-15 was intimidating and terrifying. I can smell the wussydom from here--and I'm in Southern California and this wimp was in Vermont.

Having trained long ago on the M-16 I found it about as intimidating to hold as my boyhood Daisy Air Rifle. Yes it does go "bang"--sorta--not very loud, and if it had any recoil I couldn't feel it. Now I've also used both the M-14 rifle and the M-1. The M-14 is my favorite. You can snuggle that into your shoulder, get a sight picture, gently squeeze the trigger and send a packet of hurt way down range. Both the M-1 and the M-14 have a recoil, but again, properly held (and snugged into your shoulder) it's entirely manageable. If the clown who wrote this piece of pablum fired an M-14 for a couple of rounds, he'd have to change his diaper.

I don't feel like a fag. if you didn't have parents who taught you about guns, or you didn't come from a family that were hunters or emphasized it in home protection why would you feel bad about not knowing about them. I imagine it might also has to do with the part of the country you come from. I know of a woman who lives in rural Wyoming. Her husband is a game warden . Because she has to travel quite a ways by herself to do shopping she always has a gun with her in the car and handling a gun is second nature to her.

172 60 What is the point of the article -- what's the agenda here?

---

Part clickbait, part cheap leftist status signalling. "Daring liberal journalist risks life and limb to go slumming with the rubes!"

The patronizing, supercilious tone that runs throughout is the real message. It reinforces the worldview of the typical coastal liberal reader.

The last few breathless paragraphs where he really turns the luridness up to 11 are just a bonus. It's just funny to me that we now live in a world where a man would actually write something like that without shame.

That's how they'll come after our guns--by forcing us to choose between our second amendment rights and having a roof over our heads. And they're doing it because they know that if things ever escalated, frail, milquetoast cowards like this would get annihilated. If an actuall conflict ever occurs, they lose. And they're trying everything they can to make us powerless before that happens.

FWIW, the good ole Thurty Thurty has more power than the Russian 7.62x39 (AK and SKS among others). It particularly does well in heavier bullets up to 170 gr for bigger game. There is a reason it is still around. It's brother, the .35 Remington, is also a pretty effective round for Northlands woods at stalking distances.

Yup, but only because speed was essential. One person anchors one end of the come-along, the second person tosses it around Nadler to the third. The third - usually a big he-man type - anchors the other end and ratchets it quickly to achieve compression. As he releases the tension, the other two - have changed positions - run into Nadler's back with their shoulders in order to topple him forward. Then the third man begins ratcheting again. By repeating the process, they can achieve the cyclical compression and decompression necessary to dislodge the stuck food object.

They practice this in drills every morning, and have to put the theory into practice an average of three times per week. They're quite good and when everything is proceeding smoothly, the process is oddly beautiful.

292 231 Gun question concerning caliber: Some cartridges are straight from bullet casing to the tip of the bullet. Others have a bullet casing larger in circumference than the bullet itself. When they measure caliber, which part do they measure?
Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks

The bottleneck cartridges end up concentrating a bit more of the gases from firing the cartridge on the bullet base and thus propel it faster. This was used in the late blackpowder age but came into full effect when smokeless powder was used. The only caveat is that some of the older blackpowder cartridges used 'heeled' bullets and the .22 rimfires still do. Thus the bullet is actually the same diameter as the case for these. For modern rounds, the bullet is smaller in diameter than the case. That is why a .38 Special actually has a bullet size of .357 instead of .38. It is a remnant from the old Colt .38 which used a heeled bullet.

That 17hmr is a terrible little thing, BTW. Extremely flat shooting and hits like the flat side of a shovel. I squirrel hunted with it once, and then it just comes out for the range

Perfect shot on the squirrel, and the round blew it in half. I found the rear end and part of the torso, but it was like a tiny little bomb blew up on impact. Nope. No more squirrel hunting with that gun.

Posted by: Romeo13 at August 06, 2021 02:12 PM (oHd/0)

Not sure how that would be enforced, or what a landlord's recourse would be. Eviction? You sure couldn't keep the deposit for damages. Most tenant laws allow for a landlord to enter premises with something like 24 hour notice to check for certain things regarding to wear and tear and safety issues. But going through closets etc. looking for items is not one of them. I'd assume that infringes on the "Quiet Enjoyment" implied. There would definitely be lawsuits.

You can also get Cowboy Shooting rounds for it that are loaded lighter with less recoil for training or use. The main issue with Single Action revolvers is that reloading the cylinder is a pain. Easier to just carry two of them.

If memory serves, the Feds and several states tried to do this with low income housing projects about 10 years ago, but it got slapped down by the courts because even though it was a rental, it's still the person's home. The reasoning was more complex than that, but essentially that was it.

He'd never shot or owned a gun until now. He'd purchased a Glock 19, and, well, I'm glad he was practicing! But he was doing ok, and was excited to be there. With the weirdness that *is* the bay area, he had bought it to protect himself and his family. Good for him. Ruger is also a cost-effective suggestion, or they used to be. Their SASS revolvers are getting pricey.

I have a friend who is a pretty good gunsmith, gun owner, experienced shooter.
He had a bolt-action .300 Win-mag rifle built (from a standard Win-mag action), so he could shoot long distance. Cost him a pretty penny, too.
He went to a special range course where there were targets at 500 yards, 1/2 mile and a mile distant.
The course was being run by a retired 30 year Marine Vet Gunnery sergeant, who had taught sniper shooting in the Corp.
By the end of the day, he was hitting man-sized targets at a mile.
He ran about 250 rounds of .300 Win Mag through his rifle, and he felt it at the end of the day.
That's real shootin', not like firing a 5.56 round down range.

The tension that had coursed through my body dissipated at once, replaced with a post-adrenal lassitude. My knees buckled and as I sank to the ground the gusset of my panties filled with the hot, yellow, visceral evidence of my all-consuming terror.

429 382, Wolfus,
Private ranges have their own training as Clutch mentioned above but I mention the NRA because it is generally available everywhere and has a standard curriculum. Regardless of their other faults, the NRA runs its training programs right. Their Eddie Eagle training for children that encounter firearms is also literally a life saver for children not accustomed to firearms in the family.

As mentioned above, a .45 Colt is a mankilling round but is very capable of being loaded lighter as they do in most Cowboy Action shooting competitions. A replica is to be preferred as the originals have reached the stratosphere. A .44-40 is the second most popular round for the Colt Single Action and is also a fine round. You can get lever actions rifles and carbines in both cartridges now for extra umph. Historically, the .45 Colt was not used in lever actions but the .44-40 certainly was.

I'll beat the dead horse again because the topic has come up, but my little crappy $180 Uberti Cattleman outshoots a dear friend's authentic $1400+ Colt. It infuriates him every time we take them out. I'd take his in a heartbeat, of course, but Uberti really does make great little pistols.

There are 22LR cylinder swap and barrel insert kits for them, too, so that you can enjoy shooting it for cheap. I wouldn't dream of screwing a barrel insert into that Colt, but I don't think twice about swapping it out in the Uberti.

If you think an AR-15 at that caliber is loud, you should give a .44 Magnum (long barrel) a try - that shit will make your ears sing (even with protection on) and your clothing vibrate, not to mention the flame that will issue from the barrel.

458 I never shot an AR-15, but I shot an M1, an M14, and an M16 in the Army. The M16 is the military version of the AR-15.

Compared to both the M1 and the M14, the M16 is like firing a toy rifle. It has very little recoil. I would think the AR-15 has very little recoil, either. As I recall, the M1 had more kick than the M14, but they both had significant recoil.

So this journalist must be a complete pussy.

At the range, I put the rifle up against my crotch and emptied the magazine. I then asked them is they were still afraid to shoot it. Both of them were easily getting into the center of the target at 100 yards soon after.

I believe they were 11 and 13 at the time - they have shot my 8mm Mauser and Garand since. Now aged 40 and 35.
