5 Question,
ATT is offering a FREE Enhanced Security Suite.
Reading one of the early paragraphs of the sign off page I read this.

"The data collected by the Enhanced Security Suite includes the addresses of websites visited (URLs), Internet Protocol (IP) packet header information (IPv4 and IPv6) used for addressing and routing data, the data transmitted in the internet packet payload, the IP and MAC addresses used for identifying and locating the devices on your home network, the make, model, and operating system and OS version used by your networking devices, your home network name, and your internet service provider ("Enhanced Home Network Data"). Monitoring the Enhanced Home Network Data allows the Enhanced Security Suite to detect and identify potential security issues and/or home network problems at a network level, in many cases before they impact the security and/or performance of your home network and connected devices"

Is it really free?

Of course you should pick the CDN software that you hate the least. My experience is that software should be selected by the rule of leasts. Pick the software that you hate the least, that astonishes you the least, and which makes the least incompatible changes. But bear in mind you will have to use git, anyway.

A confession: i do cryptocurrency trading as a kind of experiment to see if my commodity trading algorithm works. I don't use it as money though. What makes money work as money is the general belief that you'll be able to trade it for what you want, and I just don't see that happening.

86 I don't understand the antipathy towards crypto. While it is new and a bit of the wild frontier at the moment, the idea that decentralized finance could work to help the unbanked and the poor to retain value in their currency I think is going to be a great thing.

I mean it's not like the Fed knows what they are doing and keep devaluing my dollar. I invest in several myself, full disclosure, but I really believe in this new tech to screw over the ruling class, or at the very least empower the people. I don't have to use a bank to move or store money? I don't have to worry about drunk bureaucrats firing up the printing presses and then handing it over to "too big to fail?" Sign me up.

88 Pixy - I really have zero understanding of crypto currency. Can you provide a high level explanation?
Posted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead at August 04, 2021 06:01 AM

Cryptocurrency is based on blockchain, which is basically just a way of proving that event 'A' happens before event 'B' without having to take anyone's word about it. All of the data is right there in the blockchain for anyone to expect.

Anyway, to start it up, somebody says that they have some kind of cryptocurrency and comes up with a way of getting it out to people. In Bitcoin's case, it's given to miners, who do the actual work required to record the data in the blockchain. Once they do an amount of work, the miners then have some amount of the currency that they can use, if they can find someone to take them.

Once the coin has been put out in the world, then it can be traded for just like anything else. You can trace goods or services or other currencies for it.

From the user's perspective, you need a wallet, which is just a bunch of data that records all of the transactions in the blockchain going back to the beginning of time. You can run one yourself, but it takes a lot of storage...

Posted by: Cybersmythe at August 04, 2021 08:52 AM (17UTy)

89 ...and Internet bandwidth both of which are increasing all the time. You can also pay to have a wallet. You also need an address, which is this public-key cryptographic thing of many, many bits that is generated somehow. Anyway, to buy something, you get the address of the place you want to send the crypto, and you tell the wallet to transfer it there. It's a lot like a credit-card transaction. To sell something, you give the address to send the crypto to your customer and once you see it arrive, you dispense the goods.

It's all handled by software. The wallet puts the record into the transaction stream and once the "block is closed" it's permanently recorded into the blockchain.

Posted by: Cybersmythe at August 04, 2021 08:56 AM (17UTy)

90 In 88, that should be "for everyone to inspect."
