The unelected bureaucrats of the CDC say you can't evict tenants. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Tuesday it will extend the federal eviction moratorium through October 3, 2021 after the ban lapsed over the weekend. The announcement comes after pressure from House Democrats including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., and Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo. The White House previously said Biden did not have the authority extend the ban, given a June Supreme Court ruling that said only Congress can enact a such a ban. Congressional Democrats did not appear to have enough votes to do so, and the House is currently in recess. That resulted in him needing to be ‘restrained until the flight landed in Miami and law enforcement arrived’. Frontier Airlines added that the flight attendants were relieved of flying amid an investigation. But in a later statement, the airline said that ‘the proper policies for restraining a passenger were not followed’ and ‘the flight attendants involved have been suspended pending further investigation’.Drunk and combative at 35,000 feet, what the hell were they supposed to do, throw him out of the GD plane? Not what you were expecting I bet. Dan Price is the Co-Founder and CEO of Gravity Payments, a credit card processing and financial services company. In 2015, the company made headlines all over the world when Price announced that his employees would receive a minimum salary of $70,000. To finance this move, Dan cut his own $1.1M pay by 90%. Tenants were supposed to move into a newly completed apartment building in Blumberg, a small town in Germany’s Baden-Wurttemberg, in the next couple of weeks, but a bizarre incident has delayed their plans by at least three months. Late last month, a man operating an excavator showed up at the building and began meticulously tearing down the façade, breaking glass windows and destroying balconies, ultimately leaving the place looking like it had been in a war. Stranger still was that the man responsible for the devastation was allegedly the contractor who had been responsible for building the edifice in the first place. Certain areas of the country are famous for their hot dogs. We all know that it would be a foodie crime to go to a place like Chicago or New York City and leave without eating at least one hot dog. But the truth is, every state has a food truck or restaurant that serves up a five-star hot dog. Speaking of the CDC, during a lull at work I went snooping around the Internet trying to find some cold hard data on exactly how deadly this C19 delta variant actually is compared to the OG stuff. Surprise surprise, there doesn't seem to be very much out there in terms of cold hard metrics like case fatality rate to do much of a comparison, but plenty of hyperventilating op-ed using scary looking but largely meaningless and overspecific percentages trying to argue that it's either the most worstest thing ever or ain't no thang, depending on the ideological affiliation of the source. Fucking useless, but as usual it lets everyone shout "we're following the data!" without straying from their own predetermined path.

Naturally, this included a couple of CDC info blasts featuring some fairly impressive rhetorical gymnastics attempting to persuade me that being vaccinated would both protect me from the delta variant while also not protecting me from it. Pick a side, guys: either it works, it doesn't work, or you don't actually know if it works. Because after 18 months of essentially everyone in with any sort of power spewing constant bullshit, exploiting the crisis for short term political gain, and changing course every couple of weeks, "just trust our executive summary, we're from the government and we're here to help" is simply not good enough. Unsympathetic managment defined. Bernard Montgomery took over command of 5th Corps after Dunkirk. In his words: "I ordered that at every headquarters the whole staff, officers and men, would turn out on one afternoon each week and do a seven-mile run. This applied to everyone under forty, and there would be no exception; those who didn't want to run the whole course could walk and trot, but they must go round the whole course... "I remember the case of a somewhat stout old colonel who went to the doctor and said that if he did the run it would kill him... I then said that if he was thinking of dying it would be better to do it now, as he could be replaced easily and smoothly; it is always a nuisance if officers die when the battle starts and things are inclined to be hectic. His state of health was clearly not very good, and I preferred him to do the run and die." Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at August 03, 2021 09:19 PM (/U27+) 103

All sports are somewhat different. I was taught that after age ten, you stopped rooting for your fellow competitors to fall or wipe out. "The policy is one of the first of its kind in the United States and comes amid a nationwide spike in COVID-19 infections, driven largely by the spread of the delta variant in people who are unvaccinated." If it did, one would not roll in drunk at 2 am and microwave it for 30 seconds and wrap it in a piece of white bread with a squirt of watery yellow mustard purchased three years prior. BW I know what's behind the great chipmunk plague in CA. The southern California Bigfoots, who are a more surly bunch on the average than the northern groups, have been on the rampage this year. So the park and wildlife bureaucrats, who 've long been sworn to public denial of Bigfoot on pain of job security, have manufactured a "crisis" out of the whole cloth to get the sheeple out and away from the parks and general high timber. This gives the gubmint folks the chance to get the Bigfoot critters under control again.

Those of us who follow the Golden Rule are not accustomed to dealing
with those who do not. We are not wrong but we do need to change our tune pronto, and start giving as good as we get. Sorry - no idea how to italicize to denote a quote, but remember - the golden rule is do unto others as you would have them do unto you. That is often misconstrued as requiring you to be nice to everyone all the time. But that is actually a misreading of the rule. If you steal, lie, assault someone, etc. would you not expect or allow punishment on you for that act? If you would accept something done to you fairly in recognition of your violation of a social norm, it is not a violation of the golden rule to do the same to someone who violates that same norm. Short version - you have no obligation to be nice to cultural Marxists who want to kill you if you would not expect them to be nice to you if you were acting the same way toward them. Regarding chipmunks:
When I was 3, we went camping in Estes Park, CO with my cousins. I was a picky eater, so I wandered off at supper and tried to feed my food to the closest wildlife. My dad turned from the campstove to see me holding still and screaming at the chipmunk firmly attached to my thumb. He rescued me (of course), and I became Little Chipmunk on all camping adventures. Fast forward to two years ago, while camping in Duluth my husband found a chipmunk puppet at a gift shop and named it Thumbiter. ***** Not strictly true. No symptoms means you have successfully defeated the infection, don't have the infection, or are not yet fighting off the infection. The four hallmarks of inflammation, which is the body's immune system in action are: Rubor (redness) Calor (heat) Dolor (pain) Tumor (swelling) These symptoms mean the immune system is fighting off an infection. A true sportsman cheers for the other competitors to
do their very best. Because a champion is the best of the best. Not the best of the ones who fell. Posted by: nurse ratched at August 03, 2021 09:22 PM (U2p+3) We see the world as we are, not as it is. It is a bit different in competitions that are on on one instead of performing for points. In gymnastics and track and field you are looking at each other for success and say good job during the competition, in sports that compete directly you are going for blood and afterwards you say good job. When Nietzche said that God is dead, he was not celebrating, he was predicting horrors that mankind would visit on itself
.... Meh. Nietzsche wasn't necessarily an adherent to the idea that mankind was inherently evil. He merely thought the driving force for mankind was the desire to influence and dominate the world around them. He surmised that man could express his will to power more formidably by serving others rather than oppressing them, that oppression was a weaker expression of power over another than was benefiting those around them and indenting themselves to oneself. He did propose that weaker men would express their will to power by placing guilt upon the strong for their accomplishments and status. Number one suggestion: before spending hard earned $$$ fixing rust in one area, go over car thoroughly to ensure there is no hidden structural rust in other areas. Look at the inside of the cowl, under the dash, maybe take the vent grille below the windshield out, and use a borescope-style cam to view inside. Pull up carpets; check where floor meets door pillars. Check jacking points, and the places where suspension loads are transferred to the unibody structure. If all else is good, a welded repair is worth doing. If the tinworms have spread farther, it might become too extensive to fix for the money you are prepared to spend. The trick is the czars who will use their power to do anything and everything are inherently going to be lefty big gov control freaks. And if a righty sneaks by and does something untoward with the power, like granting people more freedom, the Left will just challenge it in court and get a Hawaiian judge to put a stop to it. Same formula as the other book. Mix of 10,000-foot Big Strategy and leadership, with a cast of Everymen, German, Italian partisans, US and British soldiers, etc. Good approach to make a war history approachable and draw you through it. But these fucking people... they're not even worth arguing with. I don't even bother saying to them "well if masks work why did COVID spread so much" because I know their answer will be "because everyone didn't wear masks". And down the rabbit hole we go. Posted by: Miklos who is not and has never been a welder at August 03, 2021 11:55 PM (QzkSJ) Well, it depends upon where in that "column" (shock tower) the rust is. Because they intended to be strong points that carry the weight of the car, they are often two or three layers of stamped steel, joined by spot welds. There may be factory-made repair panels available, made by offshore suppliers, that offer a quick and mostly-certain way of making the repair. Simply welding metal over the rusted spots might add a little strength, but the rust will continue to grow beneath the patch. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 04, 2021 12:03 AM (6bS/2) 586

Of course the "death count" from C19 is also extremely suspect - but that, unlike the testing regime, is not new or unique to C19. Cause of death attribution when infectious disease is involved (or even often when it's not) has always been a bit complicated and arbitrary - which merely was a recognition of the limits of our understanding. Nothing sinister.
Having given up on the topic, and much else, many months back, I haven't kept up on anyone bird-dogging this key aspect, but I did notice that one big county in CA *halved* their C19 mortality count a few months ago. Didn't look into it, past the predictable/eye-roll-inducing/idiotic statement by the county health witch doctor that C19 "was still serious!!!" notwithstanding the massive revision in data. Muldoon, one X factor in Italy was, of course, the many GIs with fresh/recent Italian roots and connections. There's a great scene in the movie "Night of the Shooting Stars" (think that's it) where a Sherman and some infantry pull up to a village in Italy. Some tension. Then the hatch flies open, and the tank commander jumps out yelling, in Italian, to his relatives - the village was where his father was from. Something like that.
Such things actually did happen. Posted by: rhomboid (OTzUX) at August 04, 2021 12:21 AM (OTzUX) 606
After the liberation of Rome:
Paul and I spent a very enjoyable evening at one of the finer Italian homes here near Rome. A very beautiful garden is what prompted us to look the place over. An old gardener and his wife first showed us the place - and when we came back later we talked to the owner - a well educated lady, about 35, who spoke very good English - and her cousin - not bad looking, and 20, who spoke a "leetle" English. We just relaxed for a while - stretched out in big easy chairs - for the first time since we landed on the beachhead. Posted by: Muldoon at August 04, 2021 12:21 AM (Xwt96) 607
Is there a Web site or Forum dedicated to the water-cooled VW products? Don't know if The Samba.com has a water-cooled forum. The best place to get specific information related to a specific type of problem in your car is a marque forum. That's where you would learn where to source pre-made patch panels, for instance.

1. Shadowy orgs are buying up single-family homes to turn them into rental properties, presumably so they can generate revenue. 2. Government says people don't have to pay rent. 3. ???? 4. Profit! What am I missing here? Posted by: Lord Squirrel at August 03, 2021 09:07 PM (K5n5d) They buy homes from distressed landlords who cannot hold on knowing that they are powerful enough to evict the deadbeat tenants soon. ---- MLii, I don't believe I'm handling it that well. We just had our 12th anniversary (not our first rodeos) and the couple of years before he got sick were... sub-optimal. Mostly I was caring for Dad, too, all that time. Dad didn't live with us, so took *more time* out of my days. Seemed like hubs resented it.
