The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Tuesday it will extend the federal eviction moratorium through October 3, 2021 after the ban lapsed over the weekend. The announcement comes after pressure from House Democrats including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., and Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo. The White House previously said Biden did not have the authority extend the ban, given a June Supreme Court ruling that said only Congress can enact a such a ban. Congressional Democrats did not appear to have enough votes to do so, and the House is currently in recess. Now, the CDC will instead issue a ban in counties “experiencing substantial and high levels of community transmission levels” of in Covid-19, which will cover an estimated 90% of renters, according to Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

His lawyer, Detroit-based criminal defense attorney Ellen Michaels, investigated the case and says this is what really happened: Slick marijuana dealers hacked into a trucking company's computers, created a fake order for coil springs, and then filled the truck with marijuana instead.

They aren't bad, but I don't think they deserve that billing. Honestly, I'd rather eat a Sonic chili cheese coney.
The best hot dog I've had around here is at a gas station chain that makes their own bean-less chili/hot dog meat sauce.
The place in the article slathered their hit dog with mayo, which in my opinion was pretty disgusting.

Naturally, this included a couple of CDC info blasts featuring some fairly impressive rhetorical gymnastics attempting to persuade me that being vaccinated would both protect me from the delta variant while also not protecting me from it. Pick a side, guys: either it works, it doesn't work, or you don't actually know if it works. Because after 18 months of essentially everyone in with any sort of power spewing constant bullshit, exploiting the crisis for short term political gain, and changing course every couple of weeks, "just trust our executive summary, we're from the government and we're here to help" is simply not good enough.

Landlords are going bankrupt because they can't collect rent. When the rule finally expires there will be mass evictions because the renters won't have the money for the back rent. Banks pick up cheap foreclosed properties.
It used to be a bad thing for banks to own a bunch of foreclosed properties. Now it's becoming a good thing and that ain't good.

I'd say it's more like different sports have different cultures. Snow boarding dudes cheer on their competitors, but mainly because it's not a real sport and they all smoke pot together afterwards.

I was taught that after age ten, you stopped rooting for your fellow competitors to fall or wipe out.
I was taught that you want to win when everyone else did their best. Beating someone when they are off their game is a win, yes. But it isn't as satisfying as when they cranked it out and you beat their ass.

I don't disrespect that perspective.
I was just taught different. Mine lesson was victory at all costs. If you saw a player struggling, you picked on him until you made him cry or quit. You exploited an opponents weakness to obtain victory.
And if you were the inferior player, then you used any tactic in your employ to make your opponent fail. So yes, sometimes I would trash talk a player if it threw them off their game. Foul them hard. Get them agitated. Talk about their mom. Whatever it took. But then again that's probably not true sportsmanship.

The first Gundam SEED anime was a classic, with drama and action aplenty, and plenty of cool MS, and the Haro squad. The sequel was so bad it effectively killed the 'verse, although some side manga bravely soldiered on. Amazon's LOTR show isn't really LOTR related, it's set in the Second Age and focuses on Numenor. That's still direct competition. You are one-on-one against that person. Solo competition would be like gymnastics, figure skating, pole vaulting, other track and field events besides races. And in the races its probably gonna be frowned on to try and cause your opponents to trip.

He surmised that man could express his will to power more formidably by serving others rather than oppressing them, that oppression was a weaker expression of power over another than was benefiting those around them and indenting themselves to oneself.
He did propose that weaker men would express their will to power by placing guilt upon the strong for their accomplishments and status.

I think a lot of Siouxie's appeal was so much of the instruments were played like percussion. It is hard to describe, but Passenger was good, most of what they did was notably good.

The Cabrio is the convertible version of the Golf or Rabbit, right?
Number one suggestion: before spending hard earned $$$ fixing rust in one area, go over car thoroughly to ensure there is no hidden structural rust in other areas. Look at the inside of the cowl, under the dash, maybe take the vent grille below the windshield out, and use a borescope-style cam to view inside. Pull up carpets; check where floor meets door pillars. Check jacking points, and the places where suspension loads are transferred to the unibody structure.
If all else is good, a welded repair is worth doing. If the tinworms have spread farther, it might become too extensive to fix for the money you are prepared to spend.

Same formula as the other book. Mix of 10,000-foot Big Strategy and leadership, with a cast of Everymen, German, Italian partisans, US and British soldiers, etc. Good approach to make a war history approachable and draw you through it.
Anyway, just thought I'd mention it. Every thought of the Italian campaign brings to mind your father and his buddies, as well as Bob Dole, who was actually pretty f***ing funny in real life in the Senate.

I'm the type of person that will happily allow the other person to see something I don't, and be right. I consider it at all times because I want to learn. But these fucking people... they're not even worth arguing with. I don't even bother saying to them "well if masks work why did COVID spread so much" because I know their answer will be "because everyone didn't wear masks". And down the rabbit hole we go.
I didn't know about the PCR test that doesn't distinguish influenza from COVID a month ago but I sensed something like it was happening. As Judge Judy likes to say "if it doesn't make sense then it's probably not true". Those are words to live by.

Well, it depends upon where in that "column" (shock tower) the rust is. Because they intended to be strong points that carry the weight of the car, they are often two or three layers of stamped steel, joined by spot welds. There may be factory-made repair panels available, made by offshore suppliers, that offer a quick and mostly-certain way of making the repair.
Simply welding metal over the rusted spots might add a little strength, but the rust will continue to grow beneath the patch.

Having given up on the topic, and much else, many months back, I haven't kept up on anyone bird-dogging this key aspect, but I did notice that one big county in CA *halved* their C19 mortality count a few months ago. Didn't look into it, past the predictable/eye-roll-inducing/idiotic statement by the county health witch doctor that C19 "was still serious!!!" notwithstanding the massive revision in data. So I don't know how they scrubbed their numbers.

It's never the idea at fault with the left. It's always how it was done or presented. Never heard of a lefty dissing an idea. Always who was doing it and how they tried to get others involved.
They used to do that after every election when they lost. They'd all gather around and discuss how to change their messaging and approach to people. Never that the ideas they were touting were wrong and full of shit.

Is there a Web site or Forum dedicated to the water-cooled VW products? Don't know if The Samba.com has a water-cooled forum. The best place to get specific information related to a specific type of problem in your car is a marque forum. That's where you would learn where to source pre-made patch panels, for instance.

You could ask the airheads how they explain the massive Danish RCT last year (which confirmed decades of research on masks), or even the CDC statement in an FOIA response stating they had no research confirmed efficacy of masks against influenza-like illnesses. Or just refer them to the CDC's own website for its May 2020 meta-study confirming lack of mask efficacy (reviewing research back to the late 1940s).

Some of my dad's diary entries were about the civilians who owned some of the places that served as command posts for his unit. Very mundane, every day type observations. I always found that interesting, and wondered if the same families who treated my dad and his mates well did the same when occupied by the Germans.

Paul and I spent a very enjoyable evening at one of the finer Italian homes here near Rome. A very beautiful garden is what prompted us to look the place over. An old gardener and his wife first showed us the place - and when we came back later we talked to the owner - a well educated lady, about 35, who spoke very good English - and her cousin - not bad looking, and 20, who spoke a "leetle" English. We just relaxed for a while - stretched out in big easy chairs - for the first time since we landed on the beachhead.

What worries me is I'm seeing the signs in Mr I of memory issues. (Dr. now has him on some drugs for it). And, the selfish me thinks there's no way I can continue to do this after mom. We just had our 40th anniversary this past weekend. I admit it's been a rocky 35 years. Just don't know if I can handle more years of sadness and stress.

For now I bask in the few hours a week being able to bike ride or take a walk, the occasional lunch with a friend between work and mom duty. It does help recharge my batteries!

MLii, I don't believe I'm handling it that well. We just had our 12th anniversary (not our first rodeos) and the couple of years before he got sick were... sub-optimal. Mostly I was caring for Dad, too, all that time. Dad didn't live with us, so took *more time* out of my days. Seemed like hubs resented it.
At any rate, I fully understand the 'here we go again and I'm just not into it' frame of mind! Another source of guilt. Ugh.

I see that here. The angry, "just go to your mom's" comes out. My commitment to her is not his. I do get that. Still annoys me. He helped his sister take care of his mom during her last couple years and it made me see a better side of him.

I was "allowed" to work all day yesterday w/o a mask.
End of day the center manager approached me and said "There's always one" I replied "Someone has to pee standing up."
He laughed and then said management is not sure how they are going to deal with those who refuse to mask up, yet.
Several drivers are also refusing to wear a mask.
