A Little of This. A Little of That.

Who needs a polygraph machine..... When a dog will suffice?

A study of 260 dogs found that, in some cases, dogs can tell when people are lying.
The experiments involved giving dogs information about the location of food.
The majority of the dogs did not follow false suggestions when they knew humans were lying.
Is humanity's best friend catching on to our shenanigans? Researchers at the University of Vienna discovered that dogs can in certain cases know when people are lying.

Big heart, big grain bill, BF Horse. (H/T CBD)

One of the world’s tallest horses has made a new home at a rescue center after the 8-foot-tall giant outgrew his owner’s stables.

Phantom the horse officially measures 20.1 hands tall (2.06 meters) to his withers, but in reality, his head sits at around 8 feet. Weighing a staggering 2,000 pounds (approx. 907 kg), he became too big for his owner to handle and had to be moved to a rescue center.

Meet The PetMorons

Returned, the conquering hero

Well, Anubis quickly readjusted to life in the (literal) lap of luxury this afternoon.

After arriving home a little worse for wear (unexplained patches of fur missing), he quickly expressed his displeasure that we didn't have his favorite wet cat food waiting for him.

After he ate, he insisted that a lap be provided for his comfort, and after the required number of scritches and pets (he has never divulged this number), he hopped off of said lap and padded his way up to our bedroom and settled in for a nice, long catnap.

Yep, we missed him. - Teresa in Forth Worth

Always a happy occasion when a missing pet returns. Especially no worse for the wear. Hopefully Anubis learned his lesson. Thanks for your contribution today.

Sparky with cone (1).jpg

Mis Hum:

This is an update to the previous message I had sent.....

Our Yorkie, Sparky, had his cataract surgery Wednesday. It was mostly
successful, the right eye is repaired and will be near normal but the
left eye was too far gone and all they could do was to remove the bad
lens. He will be quite farsighted in that eye. He is back home and
healing. Sparky is currently an unhappy dog, because he must wear the
cone for the next two weeks. - (The Neon Madman)

Considering Sparky's age the results are pretty remarkable. No pup enjoys the cone of shame. Thanks for the update from last week.

When I was a kid we got a Weimaraner puppy named Brandy. We never got her house trained so she was always an outside dog, but at one point we got another dog who was house trained, and even today, decades later, I feel sad to think how neglected Brandy must have felt compared to the other. My dad very rarely hunted, but he one time he took her out, already an adult, he got a bird, and Brandy ran up to it and formed a perfect point - it was pure instinct. I still remember my dad's pride when he described it. As I grew older I made more of a point to go outside and play with her, but it still wasn't nearly as much attention as I'm sure she deserved. Eventually my dad gave her to my uncle, a very avid hunter, and I hope he got her out for a few hunting trips. Brandy got sick very suddenly and died, and the family suspects she got into someone's batch of illicit chemicals. She is in doggy heaven now, and when I see her, I hope she forgives me.

This puppy is from an internet search, but it's a tribute to a great dog. - Sobek

Beautiful work and a beautiful heart felt submission from you. I'm sure most of us, I know I do, look back at certain pets and wish we would have done more for. Thank you again for your beautiful work.

IMG_3718.png

We recently added two older cats to our house from the local shelter. Both had been living with an older woman who could not care for them any longer and ended up caging them. One likes to stay in a confined space and never leaves our bedroom. The other takes every opportunity to run like a madwoman - or more correctly, waddle very, very quickly. This is Dexie, also known as Chonk or Godzirra (as in Run, Godzirra, Run!!!). She is seen here resting after wiping out New York and devouring the Barbie/Ken/GI Joe Sunday dinner. -motionview

I can hear the command now, Dexie, power waddle engage!!!! Great job in saving 2 felines from possibly a horrible fate. They sound like they have made your home theirs. Thanks for sharing.

A limited amount of submissions this week in the In-Box. Thank you to those who contributed. If you have something animal/pet related feel free to contact us at petmorons at gmail dot com.

God willing and the creeks don't rise we will be back next Saturday.

Have a great week!

22 Cat owners know how a feline will catch some critter and proudly bring it into the house - dead, preferably, or alive, with hilarity ensuing.

The yellow yowler Charlie is the best hunter of our three, and often brings home his 'playmates' to show off his hunting prowess.

I think he got tired of being thrown back out the door, catch and all.

This week, Charlie caught a mouse, came to the door with it, but was not let inside. He put the mouse (dead) down, and yelled to come inside. Once inside, he insisted Milady Jo let him back out, where he began chowing down on his catch. Evidently, he just wanted to make sure she saw his trophy.

Good kitteh!

We had a tag team: Mokey and Piewacket. The would camp on the deck as a Dynamic Duo.

Mokey was a jumper. She would leap high into the air and swat birds down.

Pie was wrestler. Once she grabs you, it's over.

For almost 3 months, no bird in sight was safe, until The Wife grounded us all from the deck as an act Avian Mercy.

40 > Cats love to show off their kills to their owners.

While we have visitors this past weekend the cats were all freaked out and stayed out of sight. The alpha male who usually hunts and brings his prey up onto the porch didn't do any of that for about a week. Today he came inside and got some attention, then went out. About an hour later he brings us a rather large field mouse.

I presume it's a cat gesture of good will. Or something.

43 I buried one of my cats on Thursday. She had been to the vet in May for an odd breathing pattern and weight loss. She had not been herself through the winter and we did not notice since she was always very stan offish. After x rays she had scar tissue on her lungs. We got some meds and they seemed to help, but last week I called and askex for more anti biotics she was back to the odd breathing. My vet gave them to me, on the condition I bring her in this week. I dropped her of on Wed and they put her in an oxygen tent and she responded well, but she passed away that night. I will not say she was a great cat, but she was my cat. I buried her in the yard beside the blueberry bushes that she liked to sit beside.

I always say nobody shows up just so Lila can beat them. Judges have different interpretations of the breed standard and Delilah isn't to some of their tastes. Last month she went up to Oklahoma City and got waxed on five straight days, so stuff happens.

Before Kid2's dog began showing, I had no idea that it was such a fierce thing. The doggo was only sold to kid2 on condition it was shown, so he was. The big breeders and handlers are very territorial, and kid2 was told that doggo would probably not do well without a handler...so he has a handler and is starting to rack up points.

The knee was already hurting but I think this did some permanent damage. I noted it when I arrived at her home prior going to the hospital. I was able to get an emergency appointment with the vet who gave me the dx. He's really too old to get it surgically repaired if he can't have someplace to be rehabbed which mom can't do. I haven't told my mom yet as she is looking forward to seeing him after getting out of the rehab hospital. I'm going to see if the current dog sitter where he's at now if she would be able to keep him for rehab if he doesn't get better with the current rest order and medication. Being an only child has its disadvantages.

120 Just a side note, is the leg broken or maybe just a torn or sprained ligament? My daughters dog has sprained his a few times jumping down from the couch. The vet wrapped it and said just keep him as quiet as possible (I know almost impossible). But Moose recovered both times and is fine now. We just have to watch him and make sure he doesn't jump down. She has stairs next to her bed to help him.

Not broken. Vet thinks it's a torn ligament and yes recommended only activity is to use the bathroom to give it chance to heal as best as possible. The sitter I have is crating him except for carrying him out to use the bathroom. Vet didn't wrap it. I'm hoping the anti inflammatories and rest will get him back to pre-jump.

Yep. You still grieve and you still miss your beloved pet, but you don't have constant reminders through missed routines. I missed the feedings, the going outside first thing in the morning, even the reach over for a quick pet or ear scratch. There was no bark at the door, no demand for a bite of eggs, none of the "little things" that you barely notice. Getting Bogie fixed all that.

Duluth Trading Post has a bunch of clearance deals. Some are really, really great. If you are a guy who needs Sunday-night level clothes for work, go immediately and buy the blue and white checked Wrinklefighter straight collar shirt ($15) and Class Act Standard Fit No Iron Pants ($20). I find the pants run a bit large and they've got elastic, so a 36 goes up into the 38 range as well. They've got navy and khaki.

They've got magnet-front (no button) dress shirts for folks who might have trouble with buttons from arthritis or the like, too.

Pet related: A nice leather collar for $20.

There are some other great deals there as well, but those pants and shirts are standouts.

Free shipping at $50.
