Daily Tech News 30 July 2021

Top Story

  • My day job continues to drive me insane, but I have a very capable assistant and today got a raise, back-dated to the beginning of the month. So I'll soon be insane but with a shiny new computer.

  • The server hosting my blog did not crash overnight, so that was nice.

  • AMD has announced the Radeon 6600 XT, set for release August 11. (AnandTech)

Suggested price is $379, but I wouldn't expect it to be going for less than $500.

Wait for benchmarks on this one, because it's hard to predict how it will compare against the existing 6700 XT. It has 80% of the compute capacity but only 33% of the on-chip cache, so it will likely depend on the individual games you want to play.

It should be fine for any game at 1080p, though. Only if you want to play at higher resolutions is there likely to be an issue.

Tech News

  • There's now a standard for LPDDR5X - faster memory for laptops and phones. (AnandTech)

It will run at up to 8.5GHz, which should be great when coupled with AMD's next-generation integrated graphics. And Apple's Arm-based Macs too.

  • Other gaming PC makers say they're not facing the same problems as Dell. (Tom's Hardware)

The California legislation is stupid, and the states that blindly adopt it are stupid, but Dell's standard configurations are also stupid.

  • Intel has launched its new range of Ice Lake workstation CPUs. (WCCFTech)

With up to 38 cores and 64 lanes of PCIe 4.0, they will compete with AMD's Threadripper Pro, which has 64 cores and 128 lanes of PCIe 4.0.

    And is cheaper.

    Oops.

  • An enormous Tesla battery farm being built near Melbourne caught fire. (The Age)

Looks like just one of the pods - each the size of a half-length shipping container - was affected. Oh, and everyone who lives within ten miles, because it belched toxic smoke everywhere and Melbourne is currently in lockdown.

  • Safari is bad. (HTTPToolkit)

It's filled with bugs and lacks features available in every other browser, forcing developers to work around it. I know our UI team flinches when they hear the name mentioned.

It's the only browser available on iOS though, because fuck you that's why. You can pretend to install another browser, and iOS will pretend to let you, but on the inside they're all Safari and all have the same bugs.

  • It's a race to the bottom as China decides to suicide its own economy. (Bloomberg)

Tencent lost 23% of its market cap, and private education companies were forbidden from... Basically forbidden from existing.

China's strong economy in recent decades has been due to their switch from communism to fascism. Looks like they may be switching back.

  • One of the two HP notebooks I wanted to get - the new Envy 13 with the 4K display - is now listed on their Australian online store. Not available, but listed. About a 40% markup over the US price, but listed.

5 Apparently, if you are a civil service worker in China, you get paid about $350 a month in salary, plus a few times a year you get bonuses from the party totaling your normal annual wage. But China figured out that the last bonuses they gave, well, they'll be needing those back. So now people have to pay it back, even if it means taking out a loan.

Roasting chestnuts by an open Tesla fire... you need a really long stick.

It will run at up to 8.5GHz, which should be great when coupled with AMD's next-generation integrated graphics. And Apple's Arm-based Macs too.

I guess for a long time I've wanted to understand why clock speeds are sooooo important. GHz is shorthand for wavelength iirc; overclocking is a push to shorten the wavelength. The shorter the wavelength, the more often you can do a cycle?

I don't know how people use tablets., I am pc desktop all the time. I suck at this but was never barrelled when that was a thing. I still think that was a phone thing for some reason. It seemed to happen with phones a lot. I learned a rule or two but for sure I could have easily screwed up. For some reason my set up prevented it. I am not sure what exactly worked, but it did.

Yep. A computer running at 4GHz literally does four billion things per second. A lot more than that these days, because you might have an eight-core CPU where each core can do four operations per clock cycle. But that's the basic story.

CA is run by a special bred of Marxist ideologues who write laws that only have an ideological purpose, like when Dems banned freelance work in the state last year. Dems in CA have forced unionization almost everywhere. How could they unionize freelancers or gig workers? They couldn't, so they banned it.

Of course, they were quick to make exemptions for their union friends and propaganda branch (MSM).nEveryone else got fucked.

The one good thing is that death rates appear not to be increasing. ADE/OAS, or "Pharma Phuckup" does not (yet) appear to be increasing the kill rate of the virus.

But, as Robert Malone, MD, co-inventor of the mRNA technology and Covid vaccine skeptic has noted, it appears that signs of ADE in the vaccinated population are appearing. The Cape Cod incident is a clear indicator that is happening.

These leaky vaccines are increasing the viral loads of the infected, and allowing transmission and infection and higher levels.

Pray this does not lead to a Marek's scenario of increased death rates.

I doubt there is anything specific about the Delta variant that makes it more transmissible, other than the mutation that made it less dangerous. I suspect that the viral load, virtually unmeasured, in those with the mRNA shot were similar with the earlier strains.

128 >> So, I should just keep taking my HCQ?

Ivermectin is better, if taken early at the first sign of symptoms. What you need to do is get an antibody test to determine if you've been exposed. If you have, you have natural immunity and are good to go. Do not take a shot, it fucks up natural immunity. If you have this, the variants will not likely infect you. Your immune system knows a thing or two. It knows far more than Pharma and Pfauxci.

If you haven't been exposed, read up on the Ivermectin protocols. Search on this, others may have direct links. Vitamin D and Zinc are good. There are other prophylaxis protocols.

If you've taken the shot, God help you if ADE is kicking in.

170 So, I just want to recommend this book which I picked up at a church rummage sale, but just got around to reading: It's Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Lost World". I'm only on page 76 of a 280 page book, but it features manly men about the go on an adventure in the Amazon where they will find prehistoric creatures. FenSpouse says there is a movie by the same name from the early 60's which he used to enjoy as a kid. I don't recall that. I do recall a movie of Jules Verne' "Journey to the Center of the Earth" which I enjoyed as a youngster. .Anyway, I've read all the Sherlock Holmes stories which I quite enjoyed. Doyle was very good at characterization. He also has understated humor as in this bit which I think the 'rons and "ettes would appreciate. The journalist, Ed Malone, is going to go up or down the Amazon with a professor and another older rich adventurer named Roxton. This is what Roxton says about journalists: "Goodbye, sir. You have done something to mitigate my feelings for the loathsome profession to which you unhappily belong."

173 160 Grandparents could be out making money in the time they spend with their grandchildren, complains an op-ed published in Bloomberg last week.
Filling your days with watching your grandchildren means you miss the chance to pursue other interests and interact with other adults. Even more important, at least financially, you forgo the opportunity to earn money
Posted by: f'd at July 30, 2021 06:11 AM (Tnijr)

So I'm guessing an asshole that hates their grandchildren wrote it. Or maybe their kids have had more babies than they had and are pissed at the number. Or thief just have douchebag kids that always enlist their grandparents as babysitters so they can go out and party and resent that. Any are possible with a likely New York based writer which I assume the person is.

210 Quote from Denninger:

Let's be clear: Fauci has now admitted, on live camera, that a person with a breakthrough infection is just as dangerous as someone who was never vaccinated and gets infected.

This was expected by anyone who has ever studied anything about viral disease and the use of non-sterilizing immunizations when infections are active in a community. We have known this all the way back to Polio and is why we insisted on a sterilizing vaccine (OPV) following the inactivated injected vaccine (IPV) in the United States until 20 years after we were declared polio-free.

In addition it is exactly what is expected if a non-sterilizing vaccine produces both binding and neutralizing antibodies and we know, scientifically, that all the existing jabs do exactly that. When levels wane you still have binding antibodies and when the neutralizing level falls below the threshold to protect you now have an enhancement of the disease rather than protection.

221 >> That's the ABE bit of the process that the inventor of the mRNA technology warned against and said will - and possibly already is - happening, right?

ADE = Antibody Disease Enhancement. Early on, there was a paper than showed all the idiot spike-only vaccines were producing a majority of binding-only to neutralizing antibodies. Indeed Pharma had to adjust the dose to get enough neutralizing antibodies present at the expense of blowing out the binding-only levels.

This was weapons-grade stupid, and looks like an intentional ADE promoting exercise. As antibody levels wane over time, the neutralizing level falls below the threshold, and there you have only binding, which enhance infection.

That appears to be happening right now.

These people who did this are fools. Idiots.

Yup. But I like her more before she complained about the sexual objectification of Black Widow in early Marvel movies, considering that's what gave her the popularity to mount her soapbox.

Seems hypocritical. Although I guess it's possible she was blind to that and is now speaking up to right a wrong that she helped create. That would be better.

Honestly, I wish they would all just stop exploiting our appreciation of their art to indoctrinate us with sophomoronic political activism.
