Saturday Morning Coffee Break

7 31 21 coffee.jpg

***

'Morning Horde............

***

Well now coffee is bad for you. Stick around a week or two. A new study is bound to be published.

A new study suggests that drinking too much coffee can shrink your brain and increase your risk of dementia or stroke.

Well, crap.

“High coffee consumption is associated with smaller total brain volumes and an increased risk of dementia,” claim researchers from the Australian Centre for Precision Health at the University of South Australia

It is not. Way too many confounders. You would have to do a prospective study and track thousands of people from childhood to their elderly years. You would have to look at their diets, medications, lifestyle for their entire lifetime along with directing a specific coffee consumption or abstinence for their entire life to get a dataset that might be capable of making the claim that a specific amount of coffee consumption leads to a specific outcome.

Plus, only the guy who got us the gig really knew us. Hadn't played a festival there since the mid 90's. The rest of the board were worried. "Only a 3 piece?"

You do have to be careful about the sludge at the bottom of the cup.

Seriously, 10% doesn't sound too out of line for cats, who are known to hork up a hairball every now and then. For a while before I got Chekov D. Siberian on his expensive hydrolyzed food, he tossed his dinner about 25% of the time. Never seemed to bother him, and he never lost weight. The big black Wolf cat presents me with a hairball now about once a week, and he's healthier than the other one.

I don't usually try their frozen foods, except for the real cheese packets (pepper jack and mild cheddar). The chips are good. I've given up on the cookies because of the corn syrup. Some guy living in a mansion adjacent to a park where I walk my Airedale, Teddy, has a giant named Rex. Gorgeous dog who plays pretty well with Teddy. His wife walks Rex at times so he's not too much of a load for her, plus he was very protective of her and wasn't as friendly to Teddy as usual.

Ironically, maybe because he likes Teddy, he got an Airedale female who seems to be the demon seed because she is impossible to deal with. Sometimes it just happens although I've been pretty fucking lucky. Listening to him describe the experience he just looked and sounded defeated on the prospect of her fitting in with his family. Pretty sad if you're a dog person.

Btw per the AKC Giant Schnauzers are no longer the largest terriers because they herd and were reclassified as working dogs.

The CDC's recent flip-flop, now saying that even the vaccinated should go back to wearing masks when in higher-risk places, is based on a single study that looked at a recent Covid outbreak in Provincetown MA. The vaccinated were getting infected at alarming rates you see.

Please note that summertime P-Town has been a gay mecca for decades. At the time of the study, P-Town was in full gay pride swing. "Not a Trump hotspot."

From the study: "During July 3-17, 2021, multiple summer events and large public gatherings were held in a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, that attracted thousands of tourists from across the United States." No mention of what was the attraction.

A few years back, they used to carry whole wheat and whole grain breads, the same stuff you'd pay $3-4 for at the regular grocery. Those are gone now. But their condiments like mustard are great, and you can get 100 pink sweetener packets for a buck; cleaning products, big rolls of paper towels and toilet paper, made in USA toothpaste, toothbrushes, a small amount of shaving products like small cans of Barbasol, etc.

And gift cards, which are replaced according to the season; you don't find Christmas cards languishing there in July, for example. If you need a Mother's Day card, you can find it in time.

(Hint: it never does unless you consume enough to flood several planets.)

Before they publish these studies as authoritative, I want to see some dead or revitalized scientists who lived the findings of the study. Otherwise, it's just some opinion.

Month ago I read a sad letter by would could be future Thomas/Ruby. He was very upset - he had believed all the hype around gender transformation, gotten the hormones and got clipped... and was in hell because he couldn't get a date. He really thought that straight men would find him desirable, want to marry him and raised an (adopted?) family. It was just starting to hit him that he was going to spend the rest of his life alone.

The first time I saw Mats play I thought his head would come through the bell of his tenor he dug in and blew so fucking hard. He's a pretty funny guy since he sent a tape of one of his solo performances to the cartoonist Robert Crumb just to get his reaction. Crumb, who likes old timey pre Armstrong and Ellington jazz, totally hated it but, to his credit, wrote a response in his inimitable penmanship, which Mats used as the liner notes when he released it as "Torturing the Saxophone".

Disney has fully complied with Ms Johansson's contract and furthermore, the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premiere Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date."

For hairballs I mix lard and USP petrolatum and a lick of molasses. It looks like penuche frosting, sticks like stupid, and some cats like it. It won't go rancid like butter. Some stuff has malt in it, which might help but probably is just for flavor. The resistant cats get it smeared on their legs.

Check the vomit for wads of hair, that is a good indicator. Some cats have allergies (I had one that would vomit from beef and venison) and some get stressed and eat and puke.

324 Puking cats... likely a hair/fur ball. We bought some sort of paste in a tube that's supposed to help the cat pass the ball when they shit. You smear a bit of the paste on a leg (not the paw, they'll just shake it off) and normally they'll lick it off. Some are "flavored" for cats.

It will take a while. The cat might eventually barf the hairball up. Ours did a couple months ago. It was the size of a small squirrel.

372 The CDC's recent flip-flop on masks, now saying that even the vaccinated should go back to wearing masks when in higher-risk places, is based on a single study that looked at a recent Covid outbreak in Barnstable County MA. The vaccinated were getting infected at alarming rates you see. You can find the study here: https://tinyurl.com/92nkmt

What's left out of the study is that the big town in Barnstable is Provincetown. P-Town has been a gay mecca for decades. At the time of the study, P-Town was in full gay pride swing with an influx of out-of-towners who came for the "frigging in the rigging.

373 From the study: "During July 3-17, 2021, multiple summer events and large public gatherings were held in a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, that attracted thousands of tourists from across the United States." No mention of what was the attraction.

There are many problems with the CDC Barnstable study. It never mentions Provincetown Cape Cod as the epicenter and the gay orgies going on. Calling it Barnstable County makes it sound suburban white bread. This is intentional. Shades of ignoring AIDS transmission

Making national policy from a single study with these "issues" is
