American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten was ripped after hedging on whether or not U.S. schools would reopen in the fall during a Wednesday interview on MSNBC. While having previously recommended that fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear masks, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reversed guidance following the spread of the new Delta variant of the virus, announcing that vaccinated people should return to wearing masks indoors and suggesting universal masking in schools. Weingarten called the guidance a "curveball," before suggesting that school reopenings this fall are not a done deal. "So the bottom line is, we're going to keep kids safe, we're going to keep our members safe, we're going to try to open up schools, and we're going to move through this political battlefield," Weingarten said.By try to, she means they're going to try to convince the CDC to play up the Delta Variant and adopt rules about masking children for the benefit of the fat, comorbid teachers, many of whom remain unvaccinated by choice and to the detriment of the actual children. And remember: The AFT and Randi Weingarten have previously successfully pressured the CDC into making changes -- and pressured the CDC head ditz Rochelle Walensky specifically -- not based on "science" but based on pleasing a key Democrat constituency, as well as fellow goldbrickers in the sea of smug mediocrity called the civil service.
The American Federation of Teachers lobbied the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on, and even suggested language for, the federal agency's school-reopening guidance released in February. The powerful teachers union's full-court press preceded the federal agency putting the brakes on a full re-opening of in-person classrooms, emails between top CDC, AFT and White House officials show. The emails were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by the conservative watchdog group Americans for Public Trust and provided to The Post. The documents show a flurry of activity between CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, her top advisors and union officials -- with Biden brass being looped in at the White House -- in the days before the highly-anticipated Feb. 12 announcement on school-reopening guidelines. "Thank you again for Friday's rich discussion about forthcoming CDC guidance and for your openness to the suggestions made by our president, Randi Weingarten, and the AFT," wrote AFT senior director for health issues Kelly Trautner in a Feb 1 email-- which described the union as the CDC's "thought partner."And the "thoughts" they "partnered" on were: How do we continue to punish children while letting teachers stay home, like the white collar workers they're so envious of?
Emails show a call between Walensky and Weingarten -- the former boss of New York City’s United Federation of Teachers -- was arranged for Feb 7. The lobbying paid off. In at least two instances, language "suggestions" offered by the union were adopted nearly verbatim into the final text of the CDC document. ... The AFT also demanded special remote work concessions for teachers "who have documented high-risk conditions or who are at increased risk for... COVID-19," and that similar arrangements should extend to "staff who have a household member" with similar risks. A lengthy provision for that made it into the text of the final guidance.As I said: It was all about protecting -- or really, just coddling, indulging -- teachers at the expense of children. And keep this in mind: People know that children have suffered during this pandemic. They're not learning, and of course they're not growing socially, either. We've done the worst thing we could possibly do them -- at a young, impressionable age, we've chained them in front of computers and taught them to live life through the glowing screen. Some people want to measure how badly the teachers unions and their Democrat servants/patrons have harmed children. Believe it or not -- there are some "stakeholders" who do not want us to measure the harm to children!
The NWEA (formerly the Northwest Evaluation Association) has published a new report on learning loss during the pandemic. The report is based on testing data for over 5 million elementary and junior high students collected by NWEA over the 2020-21 school year. The organization then compared those outcomes to similar data from 2019. Not surprisingly, what they found was that the last school year was bad for everyone but particularly for minority students. [charts and quotes from the report omitted, hit the link] This second chart shows the decline for each grade level by race. As you can see, everyone’s lost ground in terms of their percentile but the declines are larger for Hispanic, Black and Native American students. This graph also shows that younger students in every cohort were more impacted than older ones. The Times notes that a similar report by McKinsey, also published this week, found the same basic outcome. Elementary students in majority Black and Hispanic schools were six months behind where they should be in math while students in majority white schools were four months behind. Put another way, white students got about half a year’s worth of learning out of the full year while minority students got more like a third of a year of learning.A professor objected to the report. So what then? Mandatory vaccines and mandatory boosters every 4 months? This sounds more and more like the business model for many companies, sell a cheap product that has an item that needs to be replaced constantly at highest cost (printers, K-Cup type coffee makers, etc) So they forced the cheap vaccine on everyone but now we'll pay the price with the 3x a year boosters for life. Making more and more medical billionaires.
I think it's only fair that if everyone has to get ther vaccine, then those who already got it but then contacted Covid again, must be sent to live in isolation forever, as they clearly have a body that is ripe for breeding disease and thus are endangering everyone else.

My general theory is that the Dems painted themselves into a corner. They ran on the notion that the Kung Flu was some horrible pandemic that required all sorts of norms to be busted, and that they would fix all of Trump's "mistakes" when elected. Only, once in power they discovered that they couldn't just waltz in and issue a few orders and fix everything. Too many people are panicked, or want to take advantage of the situation for personal gain. The Dems are obsessing over the vaccine because when midwit managers find control slipping they will obsess over very visible actions, and because if they can get to the 70-80% vaccinated it will give them an excuse to declare victory and move away from it, no matter what's actually happening on the ground.

If this were a previous era, I'd argue that there's no way in hell that this works because it is flatly illegal - a tax on behavior, rather than something objective like how much money you earn.
Then I think of three things:
1. The use of the driver's license as a cudgel for unrelated infractions (e.g., if you don't pay your child support then you lose your license - totally unrelated, yet it's the approved punishment)

The problem with cheating very often is that you lack the foundation to keep it standing without constantly putting more effort in. If you cheat on a test in school, you don't actually learn the material necessary further down the line. If you cheat in a game you don't develop the necessary skills to compete against higher level players. Companies which cook the books in the short term often do more damage to themselves than if they'd just done the right thing at the beginning.

a few years ago. We were lucky for a while--- a couple of above-average teachers, then a superlative one -- followed by a nasty piece of trash.
Nasty had some cushy phony baloney counseling job, and they made her go to the classroom and teach. Her resentment was clear to see.

I see two real possibilities, and a wide variety of less-likely reasons.
One reasonable (I think) possibility is that they went down this vaccine road as their pressure release valve and ticket out of the problems they created. They have to keep pushing on it because they have nothing else. The COVID response painted them into a corner, they whipped up too much fury and terror, and there's no way out without a Deus Ex Machina. The vaccine was supposed to be exactly that, and they have to hang onto it come hell or high water.
Another reasonable possibility - though it presupposes that "logic" or "reason" factors into things - was pointed out here by someone yesterday: they do not want - and cannot afford - a control group. There must be no control group to measure vaccine efficacy or side effects, and that means *everyone* has to get it.

They've already been caught citing "the science" from an article which was not peer-reviewed, had a very small sample size, and was comparing apples and oranges and coming to scientifically dubious (at best) conclusions.
They actively suppress the science (like from the doctor in TX) which shows that ivermectin and HCQ are effective covid treatments, especially when given early on.
The ignore the science that shows masks and lock-downs are ineffective, and can be dangerous. They ignore the science (like from mRNA vaccine inventor Dr. Robert Malone) saying that young people should not be getting the vaccines, since the risks from covid to them are small, and there are lots of unknown risks with the vaccines.
There is all sorts of "science" out there. Saying "shut up, peon, we know best because we listen to the science" is such obvious bullshit. They need to be called out on it.

Depending on the jurisdiction, if you can pay the back amounts owed, that cures the eviction.
Remember, the eviction moratorium ban was found to not to be allowable only because it was issued by the CDC and the various courts found that the CDC did not have the authority to issue such a ban. I dither on the SCOTUS refusal to life the stay because one of the prongs of the test is timeliness and Kavanaugh was correct in noting that the ban would be ending in a month anyway.
But if Congress rams through a law on the moratorium? Yeah, I have no idea how that will play out. From my view, it's a very clear taking. But my track record on what courts will do isn't that great since I keep thinking anything but Will To Power will apply.

There is a deliberate point of division engineered into this by the left:
For an actual, effective vaccine, how many get it does matter. They're abusing this point - it's well known by those who are moderately educated about vaccines. But it doesn't apply to these because they're so thoroughly ineffective at preventing transmission in the first place.
If anything, they're taking on the ADE risk without the potential herd immunity benefits. That's all a vaccine is supposed to be, an artificial route to herd immunity, and these just fail.

I wanted the JNJ. It was one and done. I mentioned this before but it was never out of fear. It was because I wanted to never wear the mask again and feel good about it. That was a personal decision, not something to put on others in any way. If the Vaxxers are to be believed, the unvaxxed are no threat at all. I grew up in an America where we didn't see fellow citizens as threats.

The federal government has already granted complete immunity to Big Phama for any injuries/deaths caused by the vaccines.
If the feds mandate vaccines, they will just extend that complete immunity to everybody else -- employers, schools, etc.

Again, that's not how vaccines actually work in practice. There is a certain number of people for whom it's not very effective or it wears off over X period of time. Given that, for any given vaccine you need Y% to have it to work. The number varies a lot, and what other populations you're exposed to with the disease endemic is also a factor. This is why the PNW keeps getting measles outbreaks, from Karens who won't vaccinate their little snowflakes + incoming from India.
But they are abusing this - the COVID jabs have zero chance of getting enough people immune, because less than 2% get immunity from it. As a vaccine they're a total failure.

I don't think herd immunity to this is possible, there is a reason several common cold strains are coronaviruses. What you will see instead is a combination of those most likely to die dying off, plus more infectious / less deadly strains displacing the older strains but still conferring rotating immunity on parts of the population.
This is literally never going away, short of populations separated by space travel or a long period of evolution that entirely defangs it.
What the Chinese have gifted us here is, effectively, the common cold with a low but persistent level of organ failure, strokes, heart attacks, and brain damage side effects.

The lack of efficacy of masks for this purpose has been established over nearly 70 years of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Hilariously, CDC itself published a meta-study (study which tries to find the best studies on a subject and synthesize a consensus conclusion) in *May 2020* which repeated/confirmed the uncontroversial position that masks were of little to no benefit in limiting transmission of ILIs (influenza-like illnesses).
A very large and well designed RCT was run in Denmark last spring. Guess what it found? Uh huh. The authors had great trouble getting it published - this is how pathetically lysenkoized and politicized "science" itself has become.

And that takes care of that and it doesn't depend on any Federal Mandate. All it requires is the the org that certifies hospitals makes it the rule to be certified. Same with any health care facility. They all have to get some sort of certification from the Federal Government if they see and get paid for medicare, medicaid and any other Federal programs.
