Saturday Overnight Open Thread (7/24/21)

Saturday Night Humor

Jay Leno went into the audience to find the most embarrassing first date that a woman ever had. The winner described her worst first date experience.

There was absolutely no question as to why her tale took the prize!

She said it was midwinter...snowing and quite cold... and the guy had taken her skiing in the mountains outside Salt Lake City, Utah.

It was a day trip (no overnight). They were strangers, after all, and had never met before. The outing was fun but relatively uneventful until they were headed home late that afternoon.

They were driving back down the mountain, when she gradually began to realize that she should not have had that extra latte!! They were about an hour away from anywhere with a rest room and in the middle of nowhere! Her companion suggested she try to hold it, which she did for a while.

Unfortunately, because of the heavy snow and slow going, there came a point here she told him that he had better stop and let her go beside the road, or it would be the front seat of his car.

They stopped and she quickly crawled out beside the car, yanked her pants down and started. In the deep snow she didn't have good footing, so she let her butt rest against the rear fender to steady herself. Her companion stood on the side of the car watching for traffic and indeed was a real gentleman and refrained from peeking. All she could think about was the relief she felt despite the rather embarrassing nature of the situation.

Upon finishing however, she soon became aware of another sensation As she bent to pull up her pants, the young lady discovered her buttocks were firmly glued against the car's fender. Thoughts of tongues frozen to poles immediately came to mind as she attempted to disengage her flesh from the icy metal. It was quickly apparent that she had a brand new problem, due to the extreme cold.

Horrified by her plight and yet aware of the humour of the moment, she answered her date's concerns about' what is taking so long' with a reply that indeed, she was 'freezing her butt off' and in need of some assistance! He came around the car as she tried to cover herself with her sweater and then, as she looked imploringly into his eyes, he burst out laughing. She too, got the giggles and when they finally managed to compose themselves, they assessed her dilemma. Obviously, as hysterical as the situation was, they also were faced with a real problem.
Both agreed it would take something hot to free her chilly cheeks from the grip of the icy metal! Thinking about what had gotten her into the predicament in the first place, both quickly realized that there was only one way to get her free. So, as she looked the other way, her first time date proceeded to unzip his pants and pee her butt off the fender.

As the audience screamed in laughter, she took the Tonight Show prize hands down. Or perhaps that should be 'pants down'. And you thought your first date was embarrassing. Jay Leno's comment..... 'This gives a whole new meaning to being pissed off.'

Oh and how did the first date turn out? He became her husband and was sitting next to her on the Leno show. (H/T Hrothgar)

And just in case you really wanted The Saturday Night Joke...........

Liam O’Toole applied for a forklift job at a famous Irish firm based in Dublin.

A Norwegian applied for the same job and since both applicants had similar qualifications, they were asked to take a test and led to a quiet room with no interruptions by the Manager.

When the results were in, both men had scored 19 out of 20.
The manager went to O’Toole and said: “Thank you for coming to the interview, but we’ve decided to give the Norwegian the job.”

And why would you be doing that? replied O’Toole, “We both got 19 questions correct. This being Ireland and me being Irish surely I should get the job?”

The manager responded, “We have made our decision not on the correct answers, but on the question you got wrong.”
“And just how would one incorrect answer be better than another?”

That’s simple. On question number 7 the Norwegian wrote down – ‘I don’t know.’

You put down – ‘Neither do I.’

I think most of us could have told the researchers this. 'Springing forward' affects early birds less than night owls

Source:
Michigan Medicine - University of Michigan
Summary:
Every spring, the Daylight Saving Time shift robs people of an hour of sleep - and a new study shows that DNA plays a role in how much the time change affects individuals. People whose genetic profile makes them more likely to be 'early birds' can adjust to the time change in a few days. But those who tend to be 'night owls' could take more than a week to get back on track.

And it plays havoc with puppeh feeding time here at Casa Misanthrope.

According to my watch it is still National Tequila Day. Go for it Morons.

National Tequila Day is marked annually on July 24 to celebrate the alcoholic drink, distilled from the blue agave plant and most often produced in Mexico. It is a staple ingredient in several cocktails and there is no better day to down one than today.

Check out these five cocktails when looking for new Tequila themed recipes. These are so easy that anyone can make them at home.

Frozen Batanga:

2 oz Patrón Silver
4 oz Mexican cola
.75 oz lime juice
Salt
Ice
Garnish: lime wedge
Method: Combine everything in a blender and blend thoroughly. Pour the mix into a high glass and garnish with a lime wedge.

I have no idea how many stories I peruse every day for The ONT. But when I see a sentence that says, "Even more bizarrely, this may not be this legal jerkoff’s first rodeo." I just had to share.

Man Calling Libraries And Masturbating To A Supreme Court Opinion
And you thought you were excited about the law.

You saw that headline and thought: “This can’t possibly be real.” Alas, it is very much a real thing that’s really happening in America in 2021. The asteroid cannot come swiftly enough.

For weeks, an unknown man has called libraries around the country asking for a specific Supreme Court opinion to be read to him. As the librarians comply, it becomes clear that he’s pleasuring himself to the words of the Court.

The world would be a better place if this was taught in school.

Do loud pipes save lives? I wonder if you are flying a motorcycle.

Your dad doesn’t have to be Daedalus for you to know about the dangers of flying too close to the Sun. But the sad tale of Icarus is worth keeping in mind as you read this story. Because as cool as it sounds, taking a flying motorcycle 15,000 feet in the sky sounds like the start of a modern myth. Especially when it can reach speeds of 300 miles per hour.

Jetpack Aviation’s “The Speeder” (which we first learned about at DesignTAXI) is a sci-fi dream made a reality. It’s like Star Wars speeders crossed with a Jet Ski and a helicopter. Featuring four turbojet engines, the 231-pound machine can run on kerosene or diesel fuel. It’s also fully stabilized and features a fly-by-wire. And now it’s ready to hit the market.

Influence this........Genius Award Winner.

AN influencer plunged 160ft to her death while videoing herself, with the phone still in her hand while she crashed to the ground.

The tower crane operator, who went by the online handle Xiaoqiumei, had more than 100,000 followers, regularly shared videos of her daily life and occupation operating the huge crane.

Regardless of any 'studies', it is apparent that TPTB
don't give give a fuck about American current concerns.

Abolishing DST is the work of a few hours in Congress, thus not worthy of the last 12 versions thereof. Nor is reclassifying pot.

Nor is revisions to immigration, food stamps, reciprocal gun carry permits, oversight of FISA courts, and so on.

Instead, the sole focus of both parties is trying to ensure that each group gets an adequate piece of the spoils. I'm sick of these fucks.

Thanks for the ONT, Mis Hum.

Outstanding work, everyone, and thanks to Weasel for the very, very nice Cuban cigar.

2b. If you touch metal with both bare hands, have a friend along.

173 @51 Abolishing DST is the work of a few hours in Congress, thus not worthy of the last 12 versions thereof. Nor is reclassifying pot.

-------------

A few years ago, there was a proposition on the ballot for voters in California that (in essence) was the voters' way of telling the state legislatures that the voters wanted to get rid of DST, and the state legislatures should get that done. The ballot passed by a decent margin of votes.

DST is still quite fine in California, and in no danger of going anywhere.

222 "Crossbows take a lot of the skill out of archery"

Higher velocity means they have less margin for error. A "miss" is measured in inches for a crossbow VS feet for a recurve or longbow.

I used to compete in competitive archery and one of our brackets was a mix of bow types. Every guy who shot both had weak scores for his recurve (which is why he chose to compete with a crossbow instead)

BTW their rate of fire was the same: 8-10 bolts in 30 secs. Because someone found a PROTOTYPE crossbow on the Merry Rose shipwreck that could be cocked by hand. Lame.

285 >> My only question is did they give civilian astronaut wings to those guys that paid the russians $20 million to take a trip on the Soyuz capsule get them?

Apparently, no. They are "spaceflight participants". NASA and the Rooskies agreed on this a while back to handle space tourists.

NASA and the military have their own definitions. However the FAA covers other civilian flights, and the term for that is "commercial astronaut". Previously, the only qualifier was to go above the 50 mile limit.

They changed that to add "and actually flies the damned vehicle" basically.

NASA and the Rooskies also came up with a category of "private astronaut". No one has yet qualified for this title. It will be someone who flies on a commercial vehicle to orbit or beyond in support of NASA (or Rooskie) missions.

Musk's Space-X missions actually mean something. Even the more "mundane" things like being able to land booster rockets onto barges so they can be re-used. That was fucking cool.

But the anglosphere sure seems to have beclowned itself in an unrecoverable manner. I certainly will never take them, or most people or societies, seriously again. Serious adversaries and threats by sheer dint of size and inertia and power, but nothing more.

I don't think Gen. Yeager ever got that F-104 much above 130,000 ft. in that one zoom climb, meant to test out the hydrozene reaction steering propulsors. Which failed, and sent his plane into an unrecoverable flat-spin, down to ejection altitude. Which he did, suffering severe facial burns in the process.

And 50 miles is something in the 300,000 ft. range.

Couple of X-15 pilots DID earn those wings while flying those. One run made Mach 7, and did severe heat damage to the plane.

Mika - He is a sunny day and writes great pop stuff.
Stevie Ray Vaughan - that will get a few miles.
Frank Sinatra - Capitol years

NM has some spectacular music that touches Ranchero, Mariachi, Rock and Roll, and Country. NENW does a bang up job with pushing this music out. Al Hurricane is just great. So is the Jr. version. A supremely hidden gem is Rudy Jaramillo aka The Rudy Boy Experiment. He plays all over NM with his two side men - they blow it up bigly. He can be found on Spotify but hearing him live is a thang.

342 Well, my project for today was to resurrect an old Kohler genset belonging to a friend. He said he had primed the carb, pulled the recoil, and it started right up, but would not put out power. I noticed that it had a socket for connecting a 12-volt battery, plus it had a starter button. I figured it might need the battery to work the exciter. I found a busted ring terminal on the negative lead on the back side of the battery plug, and fixed that. Hooked up a battery, and it cranked fine.

Fuel tank was nasty. Drained that, flushed with lacquer thinner, and fresh gas. Really should be boiled out with caustic. Cleaned carburetor and fuel pump. Got it going, and it puts out just fine. Its regulator drops it back to idle, if there is no load on the output.

364 349, 350 - American music ideas

---

When was the last time that Bach, Mozart, or Beethoven caused you to leap out of your chair and bang your head on space itself?

Exactly.

American music is kinetic just like American culture itself. It lives in the off beat, a Godly place by any measure. And it is as black as Mississippi delta dirt. American music took down a thousand years of western music precisely because of the off beat. We not only have lived in the best of times, musically speaking, but the best of times ever.

383 Jesse's grave would've been more appropriately blessed by a .44-40. But that's just because.

A sailor adrift on the high slopes between Cloudcroft and Ruidoso. Could be worse inscribed on my stone, I guess.

384 380 - Many a road I'd rest well, along side. I've ridden so many of them as to defy memory.

In my youth I hitched hiked all over the the western US. I got to know my country up close and personal. It is a miracle I didn't get killed. I learned to love this land so deeply I sometimes find myself bawling while driving around as I enter being elderly.

AceHQ Meet Ups? Is that a thing? I had no idea about any of that. These have to be 2 to 1 FBI/CIA operatives trying to get normal people to blow up Disney Land.

When and where is the October meetup?

Protests are spreading all over Europe. London, Ireland, Italy now. Fuck the vaccine passports and lockdowns, is their message.

One year ago 100% of the population was at risk so we were told and so we bended. It makes sense.

Now a year later this is no longer an issue. In general 75% of the population with access to vaccines is safe now. The endless UniParty party pandemic political bullshit is just that, bullshit

What is surprising is normal peeps are still standing down.

Yah but it took him 26 secs to get off one shot

I can land 7-8 well-aimed recurve shots in 30 secs

Although it's fun to get the NSA guy to buy C4 from the FBI

Is this like a potluck?

If yes, I am in for 10lbs of out of date Sam's Club potato salad and my idea of what sushi is like at a truck stop.

Those should pretty explosive if my math is correct.

Truth is, only 20% of the population was really at risk. 80% had immune cross-reactivity to the Covid virus, and thus were resistance (across this 80%, that varies. Some were more resistant than others -- I remember a study on this dividing that group into 4 tiers, based on how much cross-reactivity to various pieces of the virus they had).

At any rate, this is why those damned models that scared the whole world were so wrong. They assumed 100% of the population was susceptible. Reality was only 20% were completely defenseless.
