The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Of course it's insanity! All lust for power is seated in psychological pathology...and the desire among leftists to control their fellow man is nuttier than most, but also more dangerous. They will latch onto anything in their quest for control over others, and the perfect storm of Wuhan flu has given them incredible opportunities!

Never mind that most of their draconian rules are based on the flimsiest of evidence. Masks? Bullshit. Social distancing? More bullshit. Transmission via surfaces? Amazing bullshit!

As the disease takes the typical course of many communicable diseases they must scramble around in the muck of their pet science toadies to find more reasons to grind their boots into our necks. As Muldoon has explained over and over, using positive tests as a placeholder for actual disease is not a medically rational policy, especially when the false positive rate is high, and many of those who test positive are asymptomatic.

Viral Los Angeles restaurant owner slams renewed mask mandate: 'It's just insanity'

Last week, L.A. County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis informed reporters that the mask mandates would go back into effect because of rising coronavirus cases and hospitalizations. The county recently reported more than 1,000 new daily COVID-19 cases and public health officials have raised concerns over the Delta variant, a form of the COVID-19 disease that is more transmissible than other strains, though not necessarily more deadly.

The reality is that herd immunity is coming fast, and there are arguments to be made that a fully open society without the artificial constraints imposed by the power-mad Mandarins will achieve herd immunity much faster! And the Delta variant is a genetic variant, but there is very little difference in the disease it causes. So why make it a big deal?

Power! Control! Votes! Make the people cowed and afraid, and the jack-booted thugs of big government have a better chance of exercising their lust for power. And I chose the word "lust" carefully. It is almost a sexual desire in these horrid little fascists and their "freelance snitches"* to stomp on normal human behavior, hoping that they can reform it in their own image.

And isn't that the ultimate goal? Gramsci is alive and well! Destroy organized religion, destroy traditional society, and replace with the one true religion of socialism. They love being worshiped, and their most fervent desire is to replace God with the state!

*Thank you VDH for the perfect phrase.

Yesterday I went shopping in the city north of me. It was the first time I saw masks on young people. Specifically, college-aged people with their moms (and many unmasked moms btw). Employees of TJMaxx were wearing masks, but it seemed a corporate decision. Workers in the sit-down restaurant where I had lunch? One, an older man bussing tables.

And don't forget the psychological damage! Fauci can say all he wants that kids being surrounded by masked people and making kids wear masks themselves has no psychological effects, but that is bullshit on its face. There are too many videos out there of little kids crying when they see mom or dad walk in while wearing a mask for me to believe that there are no consequences.

There will be. We don't what the consequences will be yet, but that there will be some is, I think, an absurd position to take. An absurd position that evil people take to promote their own power.

I don't see this or much of anything else in this moment or the near future as an overreach. There's nothing they won't do, or necessarily can't get away with. It's a matter of when their reach exceeds their grasp.

For example, Stalin murdered double digit millions of Soviet citizens on the flimsiest pretexts. But that was no overreach. He succeeded wildly, and with impunity.

For Gorbachev, a few lukewarm reforms similar to ones tried and rolled back by Khrushchev proved to be an overreach for the time. So did his disastrous alcohol policy. So did his atomic weaponry/space-race bluff against Reagan. Little things for a Soviet leader, but beyond his grasp.

I think we are much closer to the first case than the second in this time and place.

76 I've said it before, and will repeat it. Herd immunity is not a matter of a discrete magical point. It is a spectrum or continuum of population susceptibility to propagation of a virus. It can be thought of as a relative risk. In principle, the "herd" becomes less susceptible as the number of individuals in the herd who have developed immunity (either from infection or inoculation) increases. In other words, there are fewer people who can catch the virus and spread. This is analogous to a forest fire running out of unburned trees to burn. To say "we reached herd immunity in September" doesn't really elucidate anything.

Just as important to keep in mind is that herd immunity is not static, as levels of immunity wax and wane over time, or new individuals enter the population, or the virus evolves/mutates. It's a moving target folks.

"In determining that a trough occurred in April 2020, the committee did not conclude that the economy has returned to operating at normal capacity," the NBER said in a news release. "The committee decided that any future downturn of the economy would be a new recession and not a continuation of the recession associated with the February 2020 peak. The basis for this decision was the length and strength of the recovery to date."

Posted by: 496 at July 20, 2021 10:24 AM (VJsqe)

It's normal for states that border one another to go to war, and geography tends to promote the formation of persistent states in certain areas. Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico could be chopped off in a permanent fashion. There are the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachian mountains, but most of the US is a natural geographic union. In the long run there would be war.

In the short run the extremely hostile cultural divergence will mean regular border conflict over things like water rights and resource claims. The interstate commerce clause existed to prevent conflicts as happened under the articles of confederation. That will be far worse when we're different countries. Which blue states will get access to the Mississippi River's exit into the Gulf of Mexico?

Two reasons.

1.) Mutual hatred doesn't just fade away. No hatred is so bitter as that between brothers.

2.) Exigencies of Leftist politics. If we had some other conflict with each other, I suppose it might be theoretically possible to co-exist in hatred. But the thing is, there will be massive economic shortfalls in short order in the new Communist states. They will need someone to blame, and someone to loot, in order to prop up the system. Yet you see "experts" hand-waving this concern away by saying that it's never been a problem before with other vaccines. Very scientific.

Now we see so many vaccinated people getting the virus (which they are tying to rename to make an excuse)

Likewise other said that the vaccine was only lasting 3 or so months. Hardcore Pro-Vaccine folks called this a conspiracy, but 3 months after many people got vaccinated we're seeing them get reinfected.

Because they are using the vaccine as a political tool. Just like they use masking and social distancing and the other bullshit techniques for power grabs.

The vaccine is relatively new biotech. If you don't want to get an mRNA vaccine then get the traditional kind. If you don't want to get any vaccine...that's fine. I simply don't care one way or the other. But don't make the vaccine out to be some sort of evil. It is neutral. How people use it is another story.

By far the greater threat to all of us is the threat to our birthright of liberty as free Americans.

It turned out when he got to the hospital, that this guy had eaten so much seafood down there, that it was like he overdosed or something. He couldn't eat *any* shrimp for a couple of years. He said it was like a living hell, being down there, and not being able to indulge The Hunger.

That's the job he took though, and that is what he had to know was going to happen. I give him credit for maneuvering around in it. For the most part, he allowed the states to do the things. But I would have rather seen him push back against Fauci more. I realize he was in a very tough spot. It's not about making people afraid; many of the progs understand that this is just a political tool.

The current goal of all this delta variant crap is to help strongarm people into getting the jab - and potentially to keep getting it as a booster - to drive up side effects they can blame on new variants, with the ultimate aim of having a perpetual vaccine and booster merry-go-round that justifies a social credit app in the guise of vaccine passports.

Originally this was just about destroying the economy prior to the election (lockdowns) and goading conservatives into playing the boogeyman (mask mandates and sock-puppeting anti-mask content and "the virus doesn't exist" on social media)

A few months back I started reading an article he did, but stopped not far into it. He was being defensive, explaining his approach, including that he never argued against "mitigation" measures like distancing and masks.

It's not, overall, about the money. Sure, individual companies make some coin here and there, but the people driving this on a political level - this amount of cash is nothing.

This is all about power; my guess is they're aiming to take advantage of side effects and present them as something else. Quite a few places already have more vaccine deaths in certain age groups than they had COVID deaths since the beginning.

For lack of a better word, "Leviathan" was/is the one throwing out all amassed wisdom and actual science on ILIs and epidemics - not the "critics". To this day - Ordinary American waay up in the thread made this point, stealing my own thoughts - no major public figure has openly directly and doggedly challenged the baseless nature of almost all "policies" and responses.

DeSantis and Co. being the sole exception. Noem refused to go along from outset, I think. A handful of other governors - a tiny handful - broke out early, like in GA.

Correlation does not = causation. Where there is *no* correlation, whatever, *causation is excluded*. And this is what one sees, without variation, with "policies" and infections/hospitalizations/mortality.

Well, he just cost France a fair number of tourist dollars. Chez Dildo has scrapped its plans for a Paris --> Normandy --> Paris trip because of France's chaotic rules and on-again, off-again Wuhan flu crap.

280 And you know why you get outsourced tech support? People pissed that they can't get 24 hour support. Guaranteed you will wind up outsourcing that. There aren't enough calls to make it worth the money. And people will not consider tech support when they decide where to get service.

288 It's been interesting, on Twitter, to ask people if they think that putting infected people into nursing homes is a good idea. they have no response to it, because anyone can see that it's a very bad idea. Yet governors did exactly that. And that is a fact that Twitter can't erase away.

I'll let you in on a little secret: Jackson Square has moved to Freemont Street in Las Vegas.
Posted by: blake - semi lurker in marginal standing (2SdPm) at July 20, 2021 10:59 AM (2SdPm)

Fremont St in Vegas has always been like that. Even when the city tried putting lipstick on that pig, it still remains Fremont St.

290 . . . During one morning, pleasantly not hung over, I visited Jackson Square. Wow, what a freak show. A couple of decades later it appears that Freemont Street imported Jackson Square acts.

If you walk downriver in the Quarter, away from the Square and Canal Street, the area is still somewhat residential and resembles what it was like when I was a boy in the mid-'60s before the hippie invasion. That's still a pleasant stroll (in daylight -- I wouldn't go there after dark).

There are far too many areas in town, though, that have been either ridiculously over-gentrified, or have devolved into war zones. I don't drive around for fun any more.

294 ..New Orleans is... different than it was before the hurricane. It's probably coincidental and it's like every other interesting place that locusts ruined and it's just the timing seems Katrina-related, but it's still almost like you can draw a line on the calendar of when it changed.

Hurricane Ike in 2008 was cathartic for Galveston. The storm effectively destroyed 100% of the slum housing "projects", and about 80% of the substandard, crime-attractant junked houses, shacks and other slumtastic repositories of the drug addled criminal underclasses. The residents thereof, who subsequently fled to Points North such as LaMarque, Hitchcock and Texas City.

Crime rate in Galveston plummeted to historic lows, and ran rampant in those Points North communities in ways theretofore, unseen.

Hurricane Ike flushed Galveston's toilet, but only sent the turds inland.

LOL. I recall a story, maybe apocryphal (but I doubt it, it fits), that when the Ceausescus would travel in winter, Romanian Army units would lead them, painting the trees green.

Related, and definitely true: Nicolae, like most Communists, despised the Churches. But he also had to live in reality, and knew that Romania couldn't and wouldn't tolerate a total suppression.

So this nutcase demolished a big tract of Bucharest along his motorcade routes, jacked up the ancient churches on the way, moved them back a block and set them back down, and then erected apartment blocks in front of them so he wouldn't have to see them from his car.

When my wife and I first went to Las Vegas, we stayed at the Golden Nugget, and, Fremont street was okay, Yeah, the usual panhandlers, etc., but, the outright freak show didn't start until later.

Mob run Las Vegas was classier than the current corporate run Las Vegas.

Yeah, I might be a tad older than 29.

299 I don't count "it was an op!" and "China did it!" and "it's just the flu!" as the counterparts to Fauci and the CDC and seemingly the entire public health machine.

Sweden's chief epidemiologist, the four experts who started the "Declaration", independent medical and data scientists, others - they've been pointing out the science-free or extremely dubious nature of it all since almost the beginning.

Anyway, as Muldoon says it's largely a desert of tribal signaling and poor argumentation etc. But in that desert there have been lush oases from the start (of course many of them suppressed and harassed, a lovely totalitarian touch).

304 VAERS is essentially a self-reporting database. None of the data are investigated. And when hundreds of millions of people are getting a vaccine, it is a 100% certainty that some of them are going to die. Whether those deaths are connected to the various vaccines is not clear.
-----------
Trends matter. It isn't capturing everything and doesn't cover all side affects, but what is striking is how much covid data departs from the data trends over the past decade.
