Maybe, but we have no idea as they don't interact with us. We tried to talk with them but it didn't work. They are secretive and don't interact with any of the neighbors. Some of that may have been my fault. We put in a chain link fence when we moved here and I dubbed it the "wire". There is a neighborhood cat called "Charlie" who messes with our dogs and walks up and down the fence and they go crazy barking at him. When that happens I shout "Charlie is in the wire".....

156 Looks like the Delta variant has 3 mutations on the spike protein that enhance infection, and there is a greater viral load from it, since it infects easier. This allows higher exhalations of the active virus.

This is one of the three initial varieties of COVID-19 Wuhan. It hit India hard. And is now the prevalent type of COVID.

The claim in the Lancet (I know - whateever) is that this hits those unvaccinated with two doses more vulnerable.

158 @120

The Delta variant has a mutation in the gene that encodes the spike protein, making it, alledegldly more transmissible.

Novel mRNA modification may alter gene expression, so these experimental mRNA vaccines that are being injected enmasse may be allowing COVID to re-infect vaccinated people.

Who knows, I'm only a scientist and engineer who read the literature and forms his own opinions not an epidemiologist or doctor.

We had the Kentucky Man in Lexington when we lived there, 32 narcan pen resurrections for one guy in less than three years at about $800 each time when all the bills came due each time they brought him back. City council had a meeting about limiting the amount of pens they could expend on one person. The hate and death threats that resulted from that meeting put the kabosh on that plan.

212 Jean, I think there actually is a displacement/crowding out effect between influenza-like illnesses (ILIs) that has been observed before. Don't axe me about the mechanics thereof. But as you probably know, every "season" the various trains of "flu" seem to vie for dominance. And some seem to disappear for a while, then return. Not sure any of this is actually well understood.

Of course the immediate and typically eye-rolling reaction among the epi-totalitarian lightweights was "see! all these interventions stopped the flu!" ..... unfortunately for them, those interventions didn't do anything about C19. So, no, not very likely that explains the flu's (temporary) semi-disappearance.

even though this was just a poorly attempted bit of trolling, it's fun to point out the illogic in the statement. If the vaccine works, then a vaxxed person doesn't need to worry about getting it from anyone. If the vaccine doesn't work, then my getting it won't do anything at all to someone else's chances of catching it.

not to mention that anyone who thinks they can make their chances of anything happening "zero" in this life is an idiot.

254 Asymptomatic transmission was one of the key pillars of the disastrous public policy response to C19. Has it ever been confirmed to occur? I gave up on all this a while back, before more than the first studies had been done on the topic. Up to that time, wasn't looking good for the hypothesis (as it wasn't for every single pillar of the whole disaster).

One mild amusement back then was "retraction watch" - both an actual website and something that many independent observers and actual experts were tracking, with sarcastic commentary. Study after study purporting to show X or Y (outlandish, costly, scientifically dubious "policy") HAD WORKED!!!!! Oops. All of them flawed, flaws pointed out, papers retracted.

Of course nobody getting their "news" from NPR or the NYT would have any idea this was (probably still is) happening.

Your JVC machine should take care of everything for you. See where it reads "easy dubbing"? The manual should explain for you how to dub your VHS cassettes to blank DVDs, which you can find at an office supply store. (They used to be at Target/Walmart and other stores but are now very hit-and-miss.)

Give that a try and please let me know how it works for you. That's the first thing I'd give a shot.

301 Infidel, you are welcome. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.

All you should have to do is plug in and hook up your JVC to a TV so you can monitor what you're doing, make sure the remote has working batteries, and like I said, get yourself some blank DVDs. Doesn't matter if they're DVD-R or DVD+R (even I'm not exactly sure what the difference is).

If you get messages from the JVC to your TV screen that read "this video cannot be dubbed" or what not, let me know. Also see how many of your VHS movies *can* be dubbed. Don't give up just because a few say they won't dub. I'd bet at least some can be copied; just because one has super-strict copy protection doesn't mean others will. Whatever you can't dub, let me know and we'll take it from there.

Last night, I watched Body Heat for the first time ever. I was 15 when it first came out, with strict parents. To be honest, I was disappointed. It would have made a much bigger impression on me back when I had seen neither Double Indemnity nor a naked woman.

I wasn't allowed to see Kelley's Hero's.

Funny story about body heat - it was shot in the town I grew up in - long after i'd left. I saw it in the movies not knowing this. But I recognized the traffic light - having stopped there a million times. My suspicions were confirmed when I saw an outside shot of the City Hall - it's a unique building.

I watched a little bit of it last night too - even though I've seen it many times - it's like a little visit home.

It's considered "okay" to watch/own it more or less, because even many of today's Hollywokesters will admit it's the first film to effectively utilize many of the cinematic techniques common in feature films today.

Previous to BOAN, most 'feature films' were actually less than 30 minutes long, and obviously extremely cheaply produced.

374 Hi Everybody!
So glad you all are here. I spent most of the day packing and running back and forth to the new condo. My apartment is pure chaos. I'm feeling very out of sorts. A little lonesome. Don't really know why.
Posted by: sharon(willow's apprentice)

The only time my abode was organized was they week following the move. From there it was a daily spiral into chaos and insanity.

376 Another one worth the time is Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines
Posted by: Diogenes at July 17, 2021 08:22 PM (axyOa)

This always reminds me of a story I read in some national publication years ago (maybe Smithsonian when it was still good?) about some men in Great Britain who had put together a group that was building trebuchet's to the old plans, and then seeing who could toss things the farthest. Throwing commodes through the air with them was very popular, for some reason.

The article was titled "Those Magnificent Men and their Flying Latrines".

It was - assuming they actually do what is on the label, which is really questionable at this point, owing to some things that aren't public but will be in the near future - the best they could hope to do. It's simply not a type of virus you can reasonably make a vaccine for. Remember, they've been trying and failing since SARS-1

See also - the common cold, some of which are also coronaviruses. There is a reason we don't have cold vaccines.

But I honestly suspect they wanted to slap some shit together hoping for awful side effects which they could then blame on the virus itself.

The owner's of the my local dirt track have the announcer read a prayer before the race that covers some thanks to God, family, the racers, their safety, the country and so on. It is pretty great stuff.

And nobody takes a knee during the Star, oh you know the thing which is sung by local peeps. And if some fool did take a knee he or she would get some serious street ministry from the military peeps in attendence. This too is pretty great.

True, Hitch gets screwed over by his "buddy" as well as Kim Novak. Just that the thing is, Novak plays the person whom Stewart falls in love with... and who turns out (spoiler alert) to be 100% fake.

You can't even make this up. Turning Point USA's student activism summit, for kids between the ages of 15-26, has a VIP "conservative porn star" guest whose very first pinned tweet on her Twitter account is a photo of her vagina. I had to censor the photo myself to make it appropriate to post.

I'm honestly absolutely nauseated by the fact that a woman whose pinned photo is a photo of her vagina is featured at a conservative event that has CHILDREN there. Everything we have ever said about the porn industry grooming people and preying on the young is right there, and Turning Point USA is totally fine with it, encouraging it even by her being a VIP.
