Looks like the Delta variant has 3 mutations on the spike protein that enhance infection, and there is a greater viral load from it, since it infects easier. This allows higher exhalations of the active virus.
This is one of the three initial varieties of COVID-19 Wuhan. It hit India hard. And is now the prevalent type of COVID. The Delta variant has a mutation in the gene that encodes the spike protein, making it, alledegldly more transmissible. Novel mRNA modification may alter gene expression, so these experimental mRNA vaccines that are being injected enmasse may be allowing COVID to re-infect vaccinated people. Jean, I think there actually is a displacement/crowding out effect between influenza-like illnesses (ILIs) that has been observed before. Don't axe me about the mechanics thereof. But as you probably know, every "season" the various trains of "flu" seem to vie for dominance. And some seem to disappear for a while, then return. Not sure any of this is actually well understood.
Of course the immediate and typically eye-rolling reaction among the epi-totalitarian lightweights was "see! all these interventions stopped the flu!" ..... unfortunately for them, those interventions didn't do anything about C19. So, no, not very likely that explains the flu's (temporary) semi-disappearance. Posted by: rhomboid (OTzUX) at July 17, 2021 07:45 PM (OTzUX) 213

Guess we'll see, but I don't see how this massive, systemic train-wreck in public health (the analysis, policies, reporting, data) will ever be fixed. Most of the public doesn't even realize how bad things are, and of course the institutions are all quadrupling-down - imagine the terror of the (few) folks in those places when they consider what would happen if it becomes widely known that all the disruption and damage were basically for nothing. Asymptomatic transmission was one of the key pillars of the disastrous public policy response to C19. Has it ever been confirmed to occur? I gave up on all this a while back, before more than the first studies had been done on the topic. Up to that time, wasn't looking good for the hypothesis (as it wasn't for every single pillar of the whole disaster).
One mild amusement back then was "retraction watch" - both an actual website and something that many independent observers and actual experts were tracking, with sarcastic commentary. Study after study purporting to show X or Y (outlandish, costly, scientifically dubious "policy") HAD WORKED!!!!! Oops. All of them flawed, flaws pointed out, papers retracted. Of course nobody getting their "news" from NPR or the NYT would have any idea this was (probably still is) happening. Posted by: rhomboid (OTzUX) at July 17, 2021 07:56 PM (OTzUX) 255

All you should have to do is plug in and hook up your JVC to a TV so you can monitor what you're doing, make sure the remote has working batteries, and like I said, get yourself some blank DVDs. Doesn't matter if they're DVD-R or DVD+R (even I'm not exactly sure what the difference is). If you get messages from the JVC to your TV screen that read "this video cannot be dubbed" or what not, let me know. Also see how many of your VHS movies *can* be dubbed. Don't give up just because a few say they won't dub. I'd bet at least some can be copied; just because one has super-strict copy protection doesn't mean others will. Whatever you can't dub, let me know and we'll take it from there. Posted by: qdpsteve at July 17, 2021 08:10 PM (L2ZTs) 302

Last night, I watched Body Heat for the first time ever. I was 15 when it first came out, with strict parents. To be honest, I was disappointed. It would have made a much bigger impression on me back when I had seen neither Double Indemnity nor a naked woman. Posted by: Pete in Texas at July 17, 2021 07:55 PM (YCeEB) I wasn't allowed to see Kelley's Hero's. Funny story about body heat - it was shot in the town I grew up in - long after i'd left. I saw it in the movies not knowing this. But I recognized the traffic light - having stopped there a million times. My suspicions were confirmed when I saw an outside shot of the City Hall - it's a unique building. I watched a little bit of it last night too - even though I've seen it many times - it's like a little visit home. Posted by: Anonymous Guy in California at July 17, 2021 08:16 PM (7SwmH) 323

It's telling that even in frickin *1915* people could tell what a racist flick BOAN is. Fenelon, you can still purchase a copy of Birth Of A Nation from Amazon, believe it or not, and for not much money.
It's considered "okay" to watch/own it more or less, because even many of today's Hollywokesters will admit it's the first film to effectively utilize many of the cinematic techniques common in feature films today. Previous to BOAN, most 'feature films' were actually less than 30 minutes long, and obviously extremely cheaply produced. Posted by: qdpsteve at July 17, 2021 08:21 PM (L2ZTs) 338

387 This is proof we all have to be masked forever...
Let's shut down the system again... Posted by: Alabama at July 17, 2021 08:36 PM (4fSQf) LA County just reimposed an indoor mask mandate due to delta. People are frustrated. Glad I live in OC but sure they'll all follow like lemmings. We had three blessed weeks where we could be maskless at work but reimposed Monday. Lots of rope for those who sell sin and profit off of vice.
But now we have the conservative case for targeting teens and kids for sin and vice. The slippery slope remains undefeated. https://gab.com/Communism_Kills/posts/ 106598574770366927 You can't even make this up. Turning Point USA's student activism summit, for kids between the ages of 15-26, has a VIP "conservative porn star" guest whose very first pinned tweet on her Twitter account is a photo of her vagina. I had to censor the photo myself to make it appropriate to post. I'm honestly absolutely nauseated by the fact that a woman whose pinned photo is a photo of her vagina is featured at a conservative event that has CHILDREN there. Everything we have ever said about the porn industry grooming people and preying on the young is right there, and Turning Point USA is totally fine with it, encouraging it even by her being a VIP. I am sorry to hear you're down. I get the feeling. You were incredibly helpful when I read moving out of my martial home and into an apartment. If you need anything, please let me know. Brayenard I'll be thrilled if it only cost $200. Going to get it cleaned and serviced before I give up on it. It's just I have this feeling in the back of my mind that I got taken.
