38 If you feed crows, like I do when walking downtown, they will break open the walnuts and then eat it, then fly by with the empty shell in their beak. I think they are saying "see, I liked it, and I could use another"

There are few things that are as happy as a crow with its own walnut all to himself. If they are tough to peck open, they drop them in traffic so cars can run them over.

I like crows I see them as a good luck thing. I have a long musing on why I feel that way.

89 While increased life expectancy for those with Downs Syndrome is wonderful, sadly most parents who discover that they are expecting one of these delightful human beings choose to abort them. My fellow therapists and I noticed throughout our careers that we were seeing fewer and fewer of these kids on our school caseloads in the special school district and regular school district where we worked. People with this unique diagnosis are fully capable of learning, just at a slower rate. They are loving, funny, delightful, aggravating, and everything that people can be. But societal pressures and pressure from doctors to abort them means that few of us will ever have the pleasure of knowing someone with Downs Syndrome.

This is the idea, which Jordan came up with in the last thread or so:

Put your hash in your nick. Your hash is generated from your IP4 address, which puts at the end of your tagline. If these match, it's you, and not the troll. The troll can sock your entire nick line, but he can't match the hash.

This works fine unless your IP address changes a lot, which it will with certain cellular ISPs and so forth.

I had a distant cousin with Downs. When I was child, I found him scary, because he was loud and boisterous. As I grew up, I learned to accept him. And he got a job, and was able to support himself. RIP, Mike Barrett.

I guess it could be high chair.

I've heard the term "big chair" since I was a kid as a term for the person in charge. But, that could be a southern thing, or it could be British. ( I grew up overseas and had a lot of British teachers.)

Mostly I think of the group Tears For Fears who had an album called "Songs from the Big Chair."

NEVER grab a fabric hammock in the middle to give it a shake, because the wooden bar will launch itself directly at your face. Now I have a huge cut across my nose with a large bruise. Ugh.
Posted by: Toni (/c+mq)

I can beat that. A few days ago, I was using a crowbar to pry on something, and done with it, I decided to throw it down and plant it in the ground. Well, I wasn't paying attention to the hooked end of it, and when I threw it down, it didn't plant in the ground, but the hooked end took a chunk out of my right wrist. Healing nicely, now.

It was on the way to the Paris Air Show. We were heading to Africa. There was a Soviet transport with Cuban troops coming from Angola headed the other way, also stopped at Sal for refuelling. Had a great chat with the Cubans and the Brazilians - russkis did not show.

But I did see real toucans, not the turbo-prop kind, at Iguacu Falls.

The unintelligible Indian tech support types don't learn from native speakers.

They take something that is written English and turn into its own little bubble.

the Dardick Tround's cross section was based on the Rouleaux triangle, it was used to fit in the open cylinders of the Dardick pistol.

It is one of my favorite shapes. It is also the shape of the rotor in the standard rotary engine.

Only ones I'd like to meet are all dead now. I'd love to meet Jack Benny, for instance.

Other night, one a rerun he had Tennessee Ernie Ford on. Ernie fiddled and Jack violined, in a split screen. Ernie was in overalls in a barn and Jack was in a suit on stage. They made up a bunch of technical glitches and ended up with Jack in overalls in the barn and Ernie in a tux on stage.

Outside mom asked me "Son, what's a shocker?"
...
Now I'm 30 at this point, and trying to decide if I'd rather answer this question, commit suicide; or run away and change my name.
Then it dawned upon me she was looking at her bracelet with 7 colored beads... "OH, you mean CHAKRA?" Mom: "Yeah, something like that".
*sighs in relief that I get to live another day *
I'll have that conversation with my mom; but not the other one.
I'm not telling my mom "two in the pink, one in the stink", ever.
