The Morning Rant
In Wednesday's rant, I had an aside about CRT:
Enough parents have discovered what is being taught and are asking pointed questions about it, so much so that the CRT proponents are in a defensive crouch. They're motte-and-baileying themselves into knots, making ridiculous claims about how parents don't want students to learn about the history of slavery and other such nonsense.You can tell they're losing because they're not actually defending it. They're just attacking anyone who dares criticize it. They're reduced to playing word games. Here is eminent MSNBC hack Joy Reid talking over and lecturing Christopher Rufo about what is and isn't CRT. "That's not CRT." "That's not CRT." she keeps over and over again. It's not so much an interview as a struggle session where Reid wanted to punish a WrongThinker for thinking Wrong thoughts. She obviously wasn't really interested in anything Rufo had to say. It didn't really accomplish anything except throw a bucket of chum at the barking seals that comprise her audience. What she's not doing is defending what *is* being taught in schools, which is not just *about* slavery or *about* racism, but what you (a student) *must* think about it, *must* believe about it, and yourself, and your relationship to it. Again I want to use the Marxist phrase 'struggle session' to describe this new, aggressively in-your-face pedagogy. It's not enough for students to recite the catechism. They must also *believe* the catechism. There's a whole cluster of 'woke' 'anti-racist' propaganda that has been gathered under the 'CRT' rubric, which, unfortunately, affords progressives to play their usual sleight-of-hand games with words and redefining terms and claiming "that's not CRT" which spawns a whole secondary debate about whether CRT is being taught anywhere other than on the academic level. Instead of quibbling over words, I want to see them defend their assertions that all white people are racists and no other race can be racist. That's what they're proclaiming out on the bailey. Don't let them retreat into the "students need to learn about slavery and racism" motte. This strategy relies on a contradiction: 1. CRT is not being taught in schools. 2. Getting rid of CRT means that students will not learn about slavery and racism. Progressives make both those claims, but both can't be true. They need to pick one, and stick with it. Note the assumption that's being smuggled into the discussion, which is: we've never talked about any of this stuff before, slavery and racism have never been studied or discussed in public schools before, and these new struggle sessions are an attempt to *finally* have a conversation about these hitherto forbidden topics. And then there's this:

Excellent question, OM. Why does knowledge and learning have to be confined to one culture? Don't ALL cultures benefit from the development of new knowledge, regardless of who developed it? Europe just happened to be at a unique confluence of events/people that allowed the Enlightenment to happen. But it could theoretically have occurred anywhere in the world if there had been a similar confluence.

Remember a few years ago when Rush and Hannity were (correctly) hanging the word "liberal" around their necks and Hillary tried to claim it that she wasn't a liberal, she was a "progressive?" It took about two seconds for anyone who wasn't already in the Hillary tank to catch onto that BS. Hopefully they'll catch onto the "not CRT" BS as quickly.

I had it recently and it was ok. I get what they are getting at. Fried chicken is also famous in the wine community, pair it was Champagne or any good sparkling wine.
i get chicken and waffles but there is also something off about it. One is for breakfast and the other for lunch or dinner. I ordered chicken waffles and cole slaw. It was ok, but i realize where I went wrong.

What amazes me is that the people who are so cavalier about food production expect other people to prepare THEIR food properly. And yes, of course she kept her job. The manager is a white 60-ish liberal full of the soft bigotry of low expectations. Instead of taking the opportunity to teach the basics of how to do well in a job, she tolerates this crap because of their personal problems. But the time is to get the chicken to temperature. And well, food safety has progressed a bit more since you were in high school, unless you were in high school in the last 10-15 years. I bet they have to do a temperature check at certain times to make sure that the fryer is working at the correct temperature, so your cook time is correct.

It has been some number of years (cough) since I was dropping chicken in the back of the Bojangles.
But I can't imagine that they are poking each piece with a meat thermometer.
The fryers have a digital readout that says what temp they are (dusty memories, chicken was 350, fries etc was 425). Each "set" was 16 pieces of chicken, 8 white 8 dark. You bread the dark and get them in the basket and hit the timer (starts the 9 minute and 1 minute timer) and bread the white and drop it when the 1 minute timer goes off. Yes, that means you get 1 minute to bread 8 pieces of chicken.

And when it happens, something is going to flash through my mind. It is going to be two numbers. The first number is 47,000. The second number is going to be 6. The first is how much my student loans were when I graduated, and the second is the number of years it took me to pay it off - and, not coincidentally, the number of years I spent living like a monk and buying next to nothing while I emphasized paying off those loans and removing the millstone from around my neck to the point that it might actually qualify as an example of long-term manic behavior.
When the government gets around to the student loan free pass, those two numbers are also going to equal something. I don't know what that sum is for me, but I know it doesn't equal something good.

I love Yorkies. I made them many times with standing rib roast. I have a cook book from Harrods and pretty much wore it out. Sure it is bland, like the flyer up top says, but it is good bland.

For the most part, the streaming services have decent closed captioning for most modern series now except occasionally for slang terms.
A free streaming service, IMDB has New Tricks which is a dramedy with measures of tragic and comedic situations using a cold case squad. Life on Mars is straight up drama of policing in a northern British city, Manchester in the 70's.

You need a device with more RAM. That's about the long and short of it. My old Kindle kicks me out if I let the main page load for more than a few seconds. My 2021 Motorola G Power loads the whole thing just fine. The phone has 8 times as much RAM. Both using Brave for a browser.
