Quick Hits 3: The Final Voyage Edition

By the way, I've updated the Biden below post with more cringey answers.

There was a bunch of stuff to catch up. This will be the last Quick Hits for the day.

This is a good one, at least.

Diver swallowed whole by humpback whale -- and then spat out after 30-40 seconds.

Chris Wallace, top anchor at supposedly "fair and balanced" Fox, again lays the blame for the suppression of the lab leak hypothesis fact at the feet of the Trump administration.

Like Jake Tapper and Brian Stelter, he's a relentless, bloodthirsty defender of the "honor" of his media guild/cult.

***

Teaching a -- what is that, a three year old? -- three year old how to twerk, in open view on the streets of NYC, drawing no attention from police or concerned onlookers:

***

The manliest Tater in the whole wide world:

Here's a funny clip from Peep Show about the old black and yeller/red and black snake mnemonic.

***

The New York Times has finally deleted its claim that the Babylon Bee is a "right wing misinformation site that disguises disinformation as satire" or whatever.

Still -- the Babyon Bee was damaged by this, and the Times will pay no price.

This has to end. THESE SJW DEFAMATION SITES NEED TO BE SUED.

The game is, the leftwing has pressured (or conspired with) tech monopolies to deplatform people if certain claims are made. The New York Times is an aggressive deplatformer -- and they know the boxes they have to check to then pressure FaceBook, twitter, etc. into deplatforming another competitor.

All of these defamations -- labeling political enemies' speech as "disinformation" or "hate" -- are intentionally crafted with the end goal of deplatforming.

The Babylon Bee has been listed as "disinformation disguised as satire" for a long, long time by the New York Times. The conditions for deplatforming are now established, even if the New York Times now deletes its prior characterization.

The Babylon Bee is letting them slither away without admitting fault.

As I said-- the media will sometimes say they're wrong, when they have no other choice and when there is the chance of a lawsuit, but they will never, ever admit fault.

Just ask Chris Wallace, who continues claiming week after week that it wasn't the media's fault for deeming the perfectly plausible and in fact highly likely lab leak theory a deranged conspiracy theory when Trump advanced it multiple times.

No, the person at fault was Trump, and Pompeo, for not pushing hard enough against the media's lies.

They're just never at fault -- ever.

***

There's a mass shooter at-large and on the run in Texas. He shot 13 people, killing one.

There's a physical identification of the suspect.

Alerting the public about what he looks like could bring him into custody sooner -- and avoid another mass shooting.

But the Austin Statesman refuses to publish the BOLO description provided by the police -- because it "perpetrates negative stereotypes."

Weird how every single white criminal is identified as such in the headline, even after arrest, when a physical description is merely a background detail rather than critical information in the interest of public safety.

***

On his watch, as Joe Biden would say:

Silver lining is it could be the end of people telling you to put on a mask.

Nestle Purina and Mars have recently joined the move by using dried black soldier fly larvae

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Illinois Emergency Management Agency have already dispatched crews to the area to assist local authorities. The Illinois State Emergency Operations Center in Springfield has also been activated, and members of the Illinois National Guard and mobile response vehicles have been dispatched to the area.

Peel, cut into small cubes, lots of butter, some onion soup mix on top... stir after cooking a minute or so to soak up the butter. Cook 2 or 3 more minutes...

Not bad for a very fast potato dish.

283 I saw a HUGE rattler along Salt Creek in Utah. I was taking a shortcut across some "pasture" (they can barely grow decent sagebrush out there, but whatever) and didn't see it. Well, I saw it just before I almost stepped on it. Keep in mind, they have excellent camouflage, and take on the hue of their surroundings really, really well.

My "lizard brain" pattern recognition noticed it before I did consciously. All of a sudden it morphed into reality like it had been beamed down from the Enterprise. I about jumped up a foot and back. It never moved a twitch.

Hawaii introduced mongoose(s?) to deal with the rat problem in the sugar cane fields. A fight (or mating) between mongooses is like a cat fight 10X, and invariably takes place around 3 am.

Hawaii asked, "what controls the mongoose population in their usual habitat?" so they could introduce it, too.

Answer: king cobras.

So they decided to live with the mongooses.

311 presumably that explains your baked potato experience and why fries are almost always under cooked.

Its straight inexperience if your fries aren't done. They're almost always done on a timer, but you have to fry them twice, if you're doing it from scratch, on two different temperature settings (crispy outside, cooked interior). Most places that get it wrong either don't do it twice or get them frozen and just throw them in for a while then plate when they seem done instead of being scientific about it.

All cooking is basically a very scientific experiment, if you do it right and follow the proper steps, you get very consistent quality results. Or if you are really experienced and gifted you can do it by intuition and experience: this plus this done that way will be good.

323 From the "You've got to be shitting me" file.

A buddy of mine called me to tell me about an absolute debacle resulting from combined madness, idiocy and craven vote-buying in my old home state.

Apparently, CO has a program where if you qualify for the free lunch program but don't take advantage of it (e.g., you send your kid to school with a bagged lunch), the state (via the district, according to their normal free lunch cost-sharing) will rebate the value of the benefit that you *didn't* consume to offset the cost of cold lunches prepared at home.

That's insane enough. Then COVID happened. The governor signed an EO mandating that any enrolled student could go pick up a hot lunch every day, even while schools were closed for the 'Vid (because kids have no food at home, as the typical argument goes). To enable this, they waived all eligibility requirements for the free lunch program.

So they combined, and the net effect is that basically every family (at least in the Front Range) is getting a rebate for the value of a year's worth of school lunches, since no one was at school and virtually no one did the insane "go to school for your free lunch" scheme.

I luv that series. Just check your brain in at the door because you won't be needing for about an hour and a half. Enjoy Gun Fu. Rinse, repeat.

They may well. The intellectuals usually get the chop. But there is the possibility that the truly top-end elite schools like most of the Ivies might be retained. Some are usually kept around, too - concentrated where the commissars can keep an eye on them.

363 A properly done baked potato will result in a thick, tough, chewy, nearly leather-like skin, preferably lightly crusted with not-too-much Kosher salt.

The perfect vehicle for soaking up butter, melted sharp cheddar cheese and perhaps a few bits of genuine, crumbled bacon.

While the general-purpose innards of said potato might well be sublime, it is the perfectly rendered skin and fixins that is the delight of the dish.

Best enjoyed with a darker beer such as a Newcastle Ale, in a well-frosted pilsner glass or mug. And should be plated with a perfectly cooked steak, a Sirloin or better. Funny though, every now and then, a one-in-a-hundred baked potato can steal the spotlight from the steak. And that's a special meal, indeed!

364 The problem with John Wick sequels is there were a lot of 'John Wicks' . He was supposed to be the baddest of bad , the boogey man . The sequels had a lot that were his equals. Of course they had to make a woman his equal in the 3rd one.

365 "nah, if history is any guide they are going to get it first."

Well since the GOP is impotent and will probably give up their member lists to the Re-Education Czar, I figure I might as well register as Democrat and work my way up the ladder to become...the Re-Education Czar.

Making sure Kristol, French, Driscoll and Treacher get the "very best treatment" available. And the rest of the Quisling NeverTrumpers.

Then the Libertarians.

And finally all the Marxists heretics. You will be amazed at how many Marxists will declared enemies of the state. Nom nom nom.

This is the way I make mine. Medium sized. Run under water to clean off dirt, poke a few holes, while wet sprinkle on Kosher salt (the chunkier kind), straight onto the oven rack. No foil, no oil. 350 for 1-1/2 hours.

I don't get the kind Publius likes. I always tell Mr. Black if he goes to the store for me, "don't get the potato footballs!"

373 "They got themselves off the list, but as far as I know they *didn't* get a retraction and formal apology."

My working theory is at after a certain point, troublemakers are allowed to meet our Alien Overlords (tm) and get imprinted with The Master Plan so they will get with the program.

Explains people like John Roberts, PJ Media, etc.

377 The only yellow mnemonic I remember is; If it's yellow it's mellow and if it's brown flush it down.

No?

Red touches yellow you're a dead fellow.

Red touches Black you're okay jack.

But really, how many times do people come into contact with a coral snake. They're very shy and you have to almost step on them to get bit.

One big rule to follow is never stick any part of your body into any place you can't see fully. Hands and feet are what usually get you.
