First-World Problems...Part I May Have Run Out Of Numbers!

This is the ultimate First-World Problem. We want for nothing, have no existential issues on the horizon, are supremely confident that all will be well, and even better tomorrow. So we don't bother to read or learn or look up from our phones, and the result is a generation of dummies. Ignorant and parochial and insular, and curiously incurious about the world...past present or future.

It's also a spoof (hopefully...maybe...oh Lord I hope so), and damned funny.

5 Friday, after I let the dogs out of the car, the door wouldn't latch closed. The latch piece was stuck open. Tried to pull it forward but it didn't help. Did a search on the Net and discovered that I needed to push it back while pulling the door handle. It fixed it. I am in favor of the knowledge of our elders but sometimes you gotta do a search.

Fixed reasonably a truck problem yesterday. Somewhere someone hit my truck from side and drove my step rail inward. Pulled off the rail. Straighten out the rackets with a sledge hammer andblocks of steel and put it back. Still looks like it was pushed in a inch.

91 A stuck automatic window is usually caused by one of the gears overriding the other, or a bit of grit in the gears.

I fixed one by taking the inside padding off of the door, and putting a chunk of 4" diameter stove wood against the inside nut for the gear, and triggering the switch to close the window, and popping the chunk of wood with a hammer. That fixed it.

Of course, since it was a GF's Explorer, I sent her inside for some electrical tape while I did this so she wouldn't yell at me for swinging a hammer at it.

And...you would be correct. When discussing largest cities, you are always talking population, b/c area is so problematic: Look at my region, StL MO. The City of StL proper peeked in population is the late 50's/early 60's. It's gone from ~600k to ~300k since than, with flight out to the suburbs and exurbs. (This is one reason why my fair city wins the murder bingo game: they are just talking the City proper.) If you include StL County, St. Charles, Jefferson, Franklin County AND the metro east in IL, we are a damn big media market.

A lot of R&D happens by people who get tired of doing the same thing the same way over and over again leave a company to start their own. The new guys end up putting that old company completely out of business due to their R&D improvements over the old way. Then, they become stone, employees become restless and the process repeats.

That's a trick question - we don't "do" cities like other states do...I mean Fairfax County has 1.146M+ people, but the city in Fairfax County, Fairfax City, has 23.5K people...

Why we do that, I have no idea...but we are the land of hugely populous counties that surround tiny cities.

PS - VA Beach "wins" with 450K people - again, we have the whole city/suburban county concept upside-down...

Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff took to the street with other parade participants as they waved to the crowd as they moved through downtown toward Freedom Plaza. The parade visit did not appear on Harris's schedule Saturday.

Harris told residents the Senate needs to pass the Equality Act to provide protections for the LGBTQ+ community. The bill was passed in February by the House but has languished in the Senate since.
