Got delayed by network problems at work, so I'll keep this short and then maybe add some stuff later.

Intel has made a $2 billion offer to buy embedded processor startup SiFive. (Tom's Hardware)

The whole attraction of SiFive is that their instruction set is an open specification, so anyone can implement it themselves if they want. Most companies wouldn't want all that work and would rather license a design or buy an existing chip, but you can.

Intel is pretty much guaranteed to fuck things up. It's not in their DNA to be open.

15 Back in the day, I worked for a company that provided satellite network services. The big thing 20 years ago was Internet Protocol. IP was and is great. Standard connectivity and protocols. Our customers, however, were big oil, retailers, and credit card transaction businesses. They were and are adamant that NONE of their traffic actually go anywhere near the Internet (World Wide Web).

So, Internet Protocol is and was used, but the actual infrastructure was private lines.

Seems to me that some of these idiots at Colonial Pipeline and JBS and others didn't understand the risks of leaving their networks vulnerable to hackers.

20 It's no surprise that pre-installed apps in Android have admin permissions. You'd have the root the device to delete the bloatware.

If you are not gonna root your Android device, at least install a non-root firewall and block those system apps from connecting to the Internet. I use the off-Play Store version of Netguard, which has an ad blocker too.

Not many. There are electric vehicles, and especially 3rd and 4th car Teslas, all over, but California is the vast majority of sales*. Something to do with the weather and physics of storing energy, but we're going to legislate those laws of nature away by 2035.

66 Chevy Volts were a fascinating glimpse into the electric vehicle cult. They use a small internal combustion engine to charge the battery, and have unlimited mileage because of that. You could drive anywhere so long as you could get gas.

They were arguably the ideal next step between hybrids like the Prius and full-on plug in EVs, and a very viable technology to help make the transition as people continue to fail at developing the battery tech needed to make EVs useful and not just a niche rich-guy/leftist market.

The Volt was killed because they used an internal combustion engine. The EV folks are hardcore purists, and they hated the Volt.

82 High end EVs are a vanity market and I don't see Tesla being able to sustain their cache when GM revives the 68 Camarillo as an EV as an example. 70% of the market for the Mustang EV were new Ford owners, the big guys will take share now that they have to play the game.

I think you're in the business, so I can say this and you'll understand:

Regular truck and SUV sales will subsidize those vehicles, too.

I remember reading back when the Escalade came out that GM made $40K+ at a minimum on that rebadged Suburban. They made only slightly less on the Suburban.

SUVs and trucks will get more expensive to offset the electric cars people don't want.

You put a bed extender and ladder rack on that, and it's literally the perfect utility truck.
