This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. That's 31,000,000 calories, or 31,000 kilocalories for a gallon of gasoline. Dietary measurements are in kilocalories. So one gallon of gas has the energy equivalent of 12.4 to 21.6 days worth of food for a human. That's still a lot, but not nearly as extreme as described.

That's exactly what they did, used calories instead of kcal. Gasoline is about 31 kcal per gallon. Sometime a capital 'C' is used for kcal, ie Calories, but it's confusing. So, no gasoline does not have enough energy content to provide for the rest of a human life by a long shot. Incidentally, considering how much energy it takes to walk, a human could walk about 900 miles. So, 900 miles per gallon, if you could burn gas in your body. One of the better instructors or professors at university was, as I recall a Jesuit priest. Or priestette I suppose. Whether she quit or whatever, I dunno. Seemed nice enough. Taught quite a bit about logical fallacies and formal debate, and how to spot BS.
One of the more useful classes in life. If you have kids, make sure they learn how to spot authentic frontier gibberish. A finely calibrated Bullshit Detector. Politicians, and the Media, are among the worst offenders. Fauci exhibits many of them. Most recently, he deployed the logical fallacy in argumentation known as "Appeal To Authority". This is the idea that "experts" should always be deferred to, and listened to. You, on the other hand, are just an idiot, having no degree from Deah Old Hahvahd. The fallacy isn't that we should never listen to experts, or that experts don't exist - but beware especially of people who deploy the "Do You Know Who I Am!?" card. There's also the question of whether Fauci even is an "expert". He may just be a con artist. Posted by: Common Tater at June 10, 2021 09:39 PM (Jvty4) 164

Has anyone ever seen an estimate of how much of the animal mass in the world consists of humans? I would guess less than 1 percent. So take 6 billion times that number of kilocalories times 100, and the animal kingdom is consuming a whole lot of energy every day. Now, a lot of it is animals consuming each other, but in the end it all comes from plants. So that's a f*ckton of energy that the plant kingdom has to produce every day, just in food for the animal kingdom. The source of all that energy? The sun.

I f&@$king hate driving through Colorado in the winter. It is absolutely terrifying in blizzards. People driving around like maniacs, rolling in the ditches, 30 car/truck pileups. Not much different than Nebraska or Iowa in that regard, but the high altitude and 1,000 foot dropoffs, potential avalanche adds that special something to the adrenaline.

I don't get in front of the class and say, "Reagan and Trump were two of our greatest presidents, and if you don't believe that, you can go to hell." That's never going to be productive. What I do is present the facts, present competing opinions while clarifying that they are only opinions, and telling them to reach their own conclusions. That's what builds rapport with the students, and I think a fact-driven approach works out pretty well for our side. Got a question for you: would torsion bar steel be a good blank for making a a gun barrel? I scrapped out an old Nissan 4X4 chassis last week, and I saved the torsion bars. About 3/4" diameter by 24 inches long. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at June 10, 2021 09:29 PM (H4KU1) Torsion bar: spring steel, Rockwell Hardness north of 45 Ordnance steel: RH 25-30 or so Rifling by hand with a button will not be fun at all, I expect. I'd wonder if boring a torsion bar results in a straight bore. Kinda doubt it would have been heat treated to relieve internal stresses and that might result in a bore that's not straight. So, I'd think about heat treating the stock. Like Jim said, pistol cal (or rimfire). Not enough steel to make a centerfire rifle cartridge chamber. Lots of barrel profiles taper *down* to 3/4 inch or more. Chamber end of a blank (unthreaded for a receiver) usually 1.25 inches or so. No clue about longevity/barrel erosion near the throat. Hi Horde!
The penis on Google Earth thing isn't actually there, if you click the link in the article. It also isn't miles in size, even if it were there, unless the residential homes in the satellite view are also similarly gigantic. Maybe Google has scrubbed or edited it out? It's either simply not there, or Google digitally removed it, or the link in the article is the wrong location. I found a supposed picture of it at a newspaper also linked in the article, but that's it. I've never spent so much time looking for a giant penis, only to have my hopes dashed so thoroughly. Also, that Buck Rogers pistol is gorgeous, and makes me wonder if someone could design an AR to look that pretty, so nobody could say it's scary-looking. There are 100,000s of thousands of folks in the grave as testament to the .22's abilities. Now, granted, there are some .22 shooters who are also in their graves, 'cause the wee round didn't cause a bleed enough fast enough equation, but I'd still not curse the having of but a .22, when shootin' is required, and nothing else is to hand. Nobody wants to get stabbed with a knitting needle, jammed in to the hilt. Which is more or less the wound channel of a .22LR when fired into standard gelatin media. And when fired into a human torso, with various bones, cartilage and differing tissue densities? Internal bullet deflections and ricochets are a brass plated, bloodletting bitch. OK maybe smart economic morons can see if my thinking is off but wouldn't a smart way to profit from both the huge markup of used cars and hyperinflation would be to buy multiple new cars on a long pay out loan and just garage them? You could resell those cars with low mileage later, and with a fixed loan their initial price would be virtual pennies. Plus they would be low mileage gas powered cars which will be increasingly rare in some states.

Ken says, "been grinding, Peon?" Me, "huh?" He points to the face shield, "you don't need that here." Me, "OK, I just saw the sign." Ken, "it's just a sign."

Nelson famous last signal to the fleet before the Battle of Trafalgar, as they closed with the enemy was supposed to be "England confides every man will do his duty". But "confides" was not in the dictionary, and would've had to be spelled out, so Nelson's signal officer, a Lt. Pasco, suggested he change it to "expects", which was in the dictionary. Nelson, according to account, said, "Very well, Mr. Pasco. Make it so." Yep, Admiral Nelson talked like that, make it so. Note the change sort of altered the tone to modern ears. Admiral Nelson was telling his men that England is certain, quite confident, they will serve her well. That meaning was understood by the fleet. Don't know myself. It appears to the Pfizer and Modern mRNA versions that do this, and within a 2 -4 day window of the second shot. Preliminary look at those ratios show about a 40x increase in baseline rate of myocarditis amongst this age cohort. But this appears to affect men more than women by a long shot, so if you take that into account, the baseline risk ratio will be even higher for men. Israel has been vaccinating their young people a lot longer than we have, and it's essentially mandatory. And now the Israeli health ministry has confirmed the myocarditis risk for young men. Good news. It's not 40x, it's only 25x baseline for the young men cohort. Of course, there can be differences in our population vs. theirs. But anyway, Israel has enough data to say, yep, these here mRNA vaccines increase the risk of myocarditis by 25 times in the 16 - 24 yr. old male cohort. The corresponds to an absolute risk for this vaccinated cohort of 1/3000 to 1/6000. There are about 22 million in this cohort of the US population. Thus if they all got vaccinated with mRNA shots, we could expect between 3000 to 7000 cases of myocarditis among them. Those are much greater than the number of severe Covid cases in the same cohort. 95% is a relative efficacy number. Tell her to look at how that translates to absolute risk reductions. Also, any claims as to risk are idiocy. There isn't enough data to make any claim as to risk. It takes years for this sort of thing to be determined. I've seen the claims as to efficacy ripped apart by detailed analysis of the limited (Pharma sponsored) clinical trials so far. Any doctor who tells you this shit is just repeating propaganda. *** I'm guessing you can't have the discussion because she's fallen prey to the tyranny of politics, credentials, and The Science (did you know conservatives believe the earth is only 500 years old?!!!), but it would be interesting to know her medically-trained gut feelings about what percent of the population possesses natural immunity. I'm guessing it's 85%+, btw. Posted by: Moron Robbie - Sure it works in practice, but does it work in theory? I have been having an email "discussion" with an acquaintance about the risks of the vaccine. She's a physician and cannot understand why anyone would not get the vaccine
*** Also it might be interesting to ask her why there is a need to try and convince black people to get the vaccine via free lottery tickets and malt liqour giveaways (I hate the racism of Democrats). When she points out Tuskegee, ask why white people can't learn from that as well? Posted by: Moron Robbie - Sure it works in practice, but does it work in theory? Yeah. I know. That's why I am going to drop the subject. She's not being intellectually honest. She's an acquaintance at church. I did explain why I take Ivermectin so the subject is closed. Posted by: JAS, AoSHQ addict at June 11, 2021 04:09 AM (xopIz) 692

** The most important one is in my name field. Best-selling NYT non-fiction author and six-time Pulitzer nominee who couldn't get this incredibly well researched and well written article published anywhere, so it finally was released in a little podunk local rag because his wife is the editor. That emphasizes the problem with where we are as a society right now. We have data. We have knowledge. It is not being provided to us and we are being told to "trust Science" and "listen to credentials" instead. What's the immunity rate? What are the blood types that have more problems? Even setting aside the mask flip-flops, Fauci accidentally said in an interview that he takes a bunch of over the counter medicines during the winter time to stave off cold viruses, but why was something like that never really pushed into the public discussion? Why do we have one-way aisles and mask requirements when the CDC *still* states that you can only possibly maybe get it if you're within 6' of someone for 15+ minutes? But the most important of any of that is the article in my name field. Posted by: Moron Robbie - Sure it works in practice, but does it work in theory? These dewormers are fantastic. There is one called Fenbendazole that I read about. A guy with stage-4 cancer took it over a course of weeks and the cancer was completely wiped out. There is research going on now to study it.

I'd also be interested in knowing why she will happily prescribe gabapentin and other medicines off-label to treat things they weren't tested on but rejects the same approach with a ten cent pill that has been proven safe for literally everyone over the last 40 odd years.

I also love that the argument is that if you take ivermectin you may also still potentially maybe get the COVID because it hasn't been tested by the right credentialed people.
You know. Still catching COVID, exactly like if you got the vaccine. Posted by: Moron Robbie - Sure it works in practice, but does it work in theory? The $2 Drug that Cracked COVID at June 11, 2021 04:43 AM (KpdiX) 702
