78 Would have been Willowed: RVs would be great to go bar hopping in.

Posted by: Bitter Clinger at June 16, 2021

I've wondered how RV get around open container laws or "in control of a motor vehicle" and the rest of it. These days, one can probably get a DUI just having driven by a liquor store in the past few days.

I've always been skeptical, even in a campground. Seems to me the standards used for automobiles on city streets aren't applicable to RVs necessarily, or camper vans. Many a "reasonable person" has gotten a drunk driving charge that stuck merely by sleeping in the back seat of their car.

The story that went around in high school was to hide your keys in a campground or wherever, at kegs, that kind of thing. Don't know how true that is. So it seems like it would be easy pickin's in a campground or anywhere RVers and alcohol combine.

108 22 Happy First Anniversary to our youngest and her husband. They got married last year by a JP on Zoom in their apartment, while we all watched on Zoom. Someday, they may actually have a reception...
Posted by: Sal at June 16, 2021 09:04 PM

Our dear daughter and her guy got hitched a year ago last Saturday. Their planned family-gathering wedding at my Mom's, with a Hawaii honeymoon, got reduced to saying the I Do's at a little tiny town wedding chapel, and a road trip around the state. (No Hawaii, but it is a great state.)

So, they just took a kinda 1st-anniversary-2nd-Honeymoon trip to New Orleans and Florida. [Ground report: Floridians without masks and restrictions, acting normal.] [Local ground report: same here by the time they got back!]

But, as you say, someday, they may actually have a reception. (Come to think of it, Milady and I never had a real wedding party. Maybe for our 50th anniversary.)

128 In the Dave McGowan book "The strange but mostly true ..." about the 60s music scene, he implies a lot of it was an op. He comes at it from the perspective of a lefty, very surprisingly. I think he has the actual goals of the op and what they were accomplishing a bit confused, but he was spot on the details.

"Are you goin' to San Francisco (wear flowers in your hair) was not a "counterculture" affair. It was about as Corporate as it gets, if you think about it. Thousands and thousands of runaways showed up in the "Haight" and overwhelmed city services like nothing before ever seen there. The whole "Hippie" movement was a media creation.

Not that there weren't genuine counterculture types, I'm not saying that at all. What I'm saying, is any grass roots movement will get co-opted into something else entirely.

Technically speaking, or nominally speaking the Democrat party both started the Viet Nam war and the "Anti war" movement. Neat huh? What could go wrong?

The weasel word here is "reject". On the other hand, Charles Stanley categorically rejects the doctrines of Grace so the Potter's Freedom is an alien concept to Chuck.

Since God predestines who He will save, there is no chance of anyone just wandering up and "accepting" Christ.

It is rational to have it that way since Salvation is sure if God goes about the whole process from the very beginning to the end to redeem His Elect. You aren't sitting around wondering if the Christ you have in mind is the True One.

That list of sixteen off-limits entities is insulting. Like in never occurred to anyone who has a nuclear equipped global military that the opponent may have some critical infrastructure.

They see Putin as a Facebook or Twitter personality. If they can #cancel Trump on anything, then that same magic applies to foreign powers.

213 re: "meh" in Justified
A couple of the early S1 episodes were a little "meh". I attribute that to deciding to keep Goggins after the pilot and the re-structuring that caused. Also, they have to introduce all of the characters.

A couple of S5 episodes are "meh", mostly because anything following S4 would be a letdown by definition. Also, one of the actors in S5 wanted out so they had to kill his character earlier than planned and that probably impacted a few episodes.

Ending a great series well is almost impossible. I give the ending a 9. I don't think any ending has ever rated a 10.

216 If you read stuff by people who were there, the scene was pretty groovy up until sometime in early 1966, after that it was "who are these people!!?" It got increasingly bizarre and completely blew up by '68 (along with pretty much everything else, the exception being Apollo 8 mission in December) By '69 everything was decidedly not so groovy in many places.

It must have been something. The moon landings, Woodstock, and Teddy "the swimmer" Kennedy, and the Manson family Tate-Labianca killings for example were all within a few weeks of each other.

Part of the Canon drilled into our heads as post-60s, any "documentary" must always imply a direct causal interpretation that a bunch of stoned and dirty hippies "ended the war" and isn't it just sad that "all those boys died for "nothing".

Maybe the South Vietnamese troops can help is out with a little pacification program, help root out communists here?

I don't think any state conforms neatly to a given archetype, so I haven't put a lot of thought into that particular question. China (or at least parts of China) in the 19th and early 20th century might qualify. There are some who would suggest the Roman Empire in its later stages did too, but even there, enough people were making a serious attempt to provide law and order, defense, etc until almost the end.

259 The high dollar mozz seems to melt pretty well. Most grocery stores though usually only sell "part skim low fat" mozz most commonly. I've no idea why.

It turns to chewy rubber when baked at normal temps. I buy anything but that. For subs, Monterey Jack and other white cheeses that melt well, with plenty of fat, are what you want. A small amount of cheddar mixed in works OK with it too. I think the skim milk mozz is used as an extender for the restaurants maybe.

267 I've always been skeptical, even in a campground. Seems to me the standards used for automobiles on city streets aren't applicable to RVs necessarily, or camper vans. Many a "reasonable person" has gotten a drunk driving charge that stuck merely by sleeping in the back seat of their car.

Posted by: Common Tater at June 16, 2021 09:17 PM (hYB//)

++++

The way people get nailed for that is if they are drunk in a parked car on a *public* street. I think it is chickenshit to get someone for a dui if they are not in the driver's seat, but if you are on a public road, you are vulnerable. An RV park or campground is private property, so a whole different situation.

278 Ah yes, this is the trick that is hard for us to understand. God is outside of time, and exists forever and ever; therefore, he knows what happened and what will happen without intervening!

......

God can't exist outside of time or human-understood physics because my university professor told me that would defy scientific understanding.

Therefor the Bible is largely mistaken, or, if you prefer, not literal, but really is just a bunch of parables like Aesop's Fables.

A man can't live in a fish. A man can't live 900 years. A woman can't have a baby at 90. The earth couldn't flood. I can't believe these things. Just like Jesus just sneaked out of the cave and Jesus was just a pretty good guy. Science demands this be my understanding.

Because my professors are smart and understand everything! Otherwise they wouldn't be teaching at a state university!

The "summer of love" was more like '65 or so, if you ask people born and raised in California. Even Jerry Garcia, who was ... well sort of there I guess, pointed this out. "Death of the Hippie" was published in Time in '66 or something like that.

The whole thing just sort of smells from 50 years later. An intractable land war on the other side of the world, and anarchists tearing everything up at home. I think at the height there were 500,000 stationed in South Viet Nam, they shoulda redeployed everybody to Berkely, Madison, Ann Arbor, etc.

I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. John 10:14-18

355 Yeah, I'm not trying to give them ideas, but people have been busted for sleeping it off in their own driveway.

Some campgrounds are state or county owned. They sometimes have "No Alcohol" policies, which is understandable from a liability angle. Kids and keggers and wooded areas = problems. I've always figured if discreet, they won't care. But I don't want to test it either.

Lots of federal jurisdiction with "dispersed" camping too. I'm just saying there's no appreciable difference that I can see, other than what is customary.

Drunk sitting around a campfire, or RV, they could clean up. "Is that your car? You got your keys in your pocket?"

Sleeping in the back of your truck? Camper?

Now a more realistic prediction thing they have been rumbling about - Firearms, and being drunk, at home. Think of the fragrant possibilities there! /s

359 Keep in mind that when covid "cases" are reported, that means a positive test was obtained. This does not necessarily mean the disease was present. PCR is a replicative test and the sensitivity was set so high that false positives abound. The predictive value of the test in general has not been established, and usual clinical trials to establish parameters to diagnose disease ( covid illness) were not done. With a very low prevalence as the disease is on the wane, the predictive value of a positive result is even more unreliable than previously.

Seems to me common sense should rule the day. If the vehicle is configured for camping, .i.e. awning out, jacks down, plugged in to shore power, etc., DUI should not apply. If the vehicle is ready to hit the road at the turn of the key, then it should.

376 Something I heard a long time ago, one thing the constabulary look for, drunks will oftdn roll down the windows (in the winter) to try to stay awake or alert. It's kind of a diagnostic and probable cause most likely.

A professional drunk told me, if you have to stay awake keep the windows rolled up, and turn on the heat full blast. It is annoying, but it works I guess. Thankfully I don't drive drunk, so I haven't had to test that, but I file info like that under "interesting but probably useless information."

His second album is still pretty good. I always thought his downfall was when he completely simplified out to make money. The second album was quite quirky and didn't sell. The simple stuff made him a mint.

393 Drunk boating on the mississippi will get you in trouble too. I think most conservation officers are duly sworn LEOs and can give a DUI if they've a mind to.

They don't need a warrant either, the game commission in some states can come right in and look in your freezer, iirc. Whether they can then bust the Meth Lab is in some dispute, but I think they can call in the people who can.

We did a brief joint operation with DEA in Hawaii, they had their own aircraft, but we drove them around the Big Island on UH60s to bust peoples growing The Marijuana. They were good spotters. "Look! There's one!" (Note, from 800 or 1000 feet, EVERYTHING IS GREEN IN HAWAII) Sure enough, we'd spiral down, get a close look, see hoses and buckets, and a thin trail leading to somebody's house (probable cause) Busted.

396 With respect to RVs, the DUI laws only apply when the vehicle is on a public road. Also, the open container laws don't apply if the alcohol is located "behind the last upright set of passenger seats" and in "another container" (such as a fridge, cooler, or cabinet), nor if it's in a trunk or similar in a normal car, or a camper that's not directly accessible from the driver's position.

The intent appears to be that the alcohol must be ready to hand in order for it to be chargeable under the "open container" rules.

On the one hand, the judges get to run as "tough on crime," on the other, the DA's office has to actually work and charge what they can prove which I image frustrates them as opposed to the "charge to the moon and get a plea deal" as defense attorneys aren't going to survive by getting clients to plead guilty and accept inflated charges in the process.

Then I used my tractor to move a car on a stand, and mowed where it had been, and moved it back. Then I moved a mess of body parts that had been piled on an old genset, and picked up the genset with the tractor, and dropped it by the shop, Mowed where the genset had been. Tried valiantly to get the genset to run; no dice. So I tore it apart. The little Vauxhall 4-banger will go for scrap. It seems to have a hole in #2 piston. The actual generator, I will save.

My brother-in-law is kind of an alcoholic. We were down at his house in December, and were driving around in the hills looking at stuff, riding in his old Chevy pick up (he has about a dozen cars, probably like Alberta Oil Peon, he's actually a great mechanic). At some point in time, we stopped at a carry-out, and got a six pack of Miller. He started drinking and driving. It was pretty funny drifting into that kind of thing, riding around in an old pick-up trunk, drinking beer out of a long-neck bottle.

Not sure what the cutoff date might be. All I know is the Rangers get really pissy if I throw empty Hormel Chili cans and whisky bottles around as "future cultural artifacts", they seem strangely unreceptive to this line of argument. Weird.

Ohm it out! Use the ohms function on a multimeter to read between terminals, and determine if there is continuity between the various windings.

Just a wild-ass guess, but it sounds like that might be a dual-voltage transformer, intended to be used on either 120 or 240 volt single-phase power.

And if you want to know what Victoria's Secret really is, and that the whole thing is run out of Columbus. Wexner lives in New Albany (a suburb he built up) and the east side of the city is thick with his warehouses and stuff. I go by a big Victoria's Secret center every day on East Broad Street at the eastern most edge of Franklin County.
There's a big unmarked building further up north where all the super models hang out. I used to know a guy that did a lot of software development for the Limited (put on the first Victoria's Secret webcast in 1997), and he worked there. It drove his wife nuts when she came in to see him, as there were all these half - naked supermodels roaming around.

The legal key is you need to put the cans either in your trunk or in the bed of your truck.

In most states, open container laws do not apply to those locations.

590 AK, I don't know what to think sometimes. My crystal ball gets cloudy sometimes. Or maybe I just don't want to look, eh?

These things come in waves, and sometimes they are a little early, and not ready for prime time. Those with long memories may remember a short lived "UniSex" fashion craze in the early 1970s. The idea was all the rage in the college academic set. There would be no "boy" or "girl" fashions, everything would be "UniSex". It didn't sell then.

What I'm getting at, is termites never quit. They are making a big stink about getting fuel pipelines shutdown. Rumblings about outlawing cars by such and such a year. Like someone said today, they might be lying about the "why" but they aren't lying about the "what". Prepare accordingly. I could smell it when it looked like Canklez was inevitable. They are crazy, they want "revenge" for a litany of offenses in this country, things that nobody in this country are guilty of, things that never actually happened, but they are extremely dangerous and control many levers of power.

It happens in every country the same way. Demonization of a particular ethnic group or political party, increasing demagoguery.Soun familiar?

A lot of the programs didn't last that long and the tweekrs often had nothing in life better than meth, so they went back.
I don't know if that six month figure is still what is figured, it has been many moons since I got that info.

627 One thing I would recommend, is don't try to "self medicate" with booze or drugs, prescription or otherwise. You need to be alert and on your game. In control of all your senses, not dulled. And you need your health, it affects your mind too, and probably vice versa. If you lose your health, nothing else matters.

Turn the TV OFF, and leave it off. All that shit will make you suicidal, and I think it is obviously designed to.

Meth changes the very EEG patterns in a brain scan. Down to the lizard brain stem itself. I'd be joyous to see one such recovered back to a normal scan, but have yet to see such, yet. Those who have "recovered", do so through much counseling and self-discipline. But I've yet to know of a scan restored back to normal, at least that I'm aware of.

Not judging. My last brain scan came back negative, so, D'oh!

No one else can make you happy... you have to do that for yourself... BUT... others can make you miserable.

2? Life sucks. Its going to suck. Grab the good moments when you can to get you though the suck.

This gives you dual voltage capabilities on each side. Take the standard 120/240::12/24V transformer. H1 and H2 are one primary winding. H3 and H4 are the other. X1 and X2 and X3 and X4 are the two secondary pairs. Phase is important, of course. Odd numbers must match.

For 120V input, you parallel the two primaries. H1 and H3 and H2 and H4 to input line. For 240V input, you series. Connect H2 and H3, and line goes to H1 and H4.

For 12V output, X1 and X3, and X2 and X4 are are paralleled. For 24V output, X2 and X3 are connected, and output is between X1 and X4.

In the latter, the X2 and X3 junction is a center tap, and you have 12/24 three wire if desired.

Note KVA rating depends on both coils. Each coil is only 1/2 the KVA rating.

661 Well folks, I miss the meat of the ONT again. I'm taking my god-kitteh Maceo (aka, the dogbear) to the vet tomorrow for a cancer check and labs. My exgf adopted Maceo, a rescue, from the SFSPCA about a year ago. He is such a cool cat and is thriving thanks to the love he gets and gives.

Or, how bout same probes across opposite eyeballs?

I can make it worse from there, too. Anyone who has studied physiology can, it's no secret. Trick is, NOT doing such to every leftard MF'er who pisses you off, that day, right?

668 Would love to see Mauler or the Critical Drinker review Biden's press conference.

Biden's cue cards are is pushing the fake narrative that the Jan 6th protestors "broke through a cordon and killed a police officer"... I though the report was that police let them in and that the police office died later for unrelated reasons?

678 I used to be an avid reader. My attention span has been really poor.

I have trouble keeping focus on what I'm reading. It started during cancer treatment. It got better but it's not like it was.

Candace Owens suggested the reason for fomenting criminal violence in the streets was so the junta could federalize local policing. This makes sense. It's exactly what the Nazis did.
