French President Emmanuel Macron Slapped by a Citizen;
Le Figaro Suggests The Motive Was Anger About the Lockdowns

That motive is not confirmed, just speculated.

LeFigaro says that both the man and "one of his accomplices" were arrested. They're both part of the "Yellow Vest" movement that protested throughout most of 2019.

I think maybe they're saying that the "accomplice" grabbed Macron's forearm, which then, I guess, opened him up for the slap delivered by the other guy.

Another article suggests that Macron had been sensing growing anger from the crowds over France's almost-never-ending lockdowns. France is moving to the "third stage" of ending (maybe!) the lockdown this week, but I guess people are sick and tired of it already.

All I can say is, what a terrible thing to do.

Our beloved political, bureaucratic, and media lords deserve the utmost respect, faith, and physical submissiveness of the peasantry.

Thanks to AndyCanuck.

113 From an old thread, but I just woke up, Ace writes -

>>Journalists will admit -- when absolutely forced to by proof of incontrovertible facts -- that they were wrong. What they will never do is admit they were at fault.

Ha ha. Ace has discovered estrogen-ium logic.
(with apologies to the ettes.)

This is how women think. They were "justified," they were "forced" to act that way, "they had no choice."

"I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability."
Well, this is how it's done.

But seriously, I think this is how people think when they are subordinate by choice. (ie, beta.) It is ingrained in them that "the government," or the UN, or "capitalism" is in charge of their lives and they blame the world for their mistakes instead of taking responsibility for their own ideas and actions. They do not want to be responsible (because that is hard,) but they also want to be able to bitch about things they chose not to control. I think it sums up the Left fairly well

167 France has a really weird relationship with its own history.

They go through waves.

A movie about the revolutionary figure Georges Danton was made in the 80s. During production, French feeling was with Danton, but by the time the movie came out some kind of nationalist zeal had come over the country moving opinion towards Robespierre. The negative portrayal of Robespierre doomed the film in France where it wouldn't have been as much of a problem a year before.

I maintain that Robespierre was one of history's greatest monsters, though.

300 Brigette Macron reminds me of Mary Kay Letourneau, that woman who had an affair with her 13-year old student Vili Fualau (when she was a 30-something, married w/kids teacher). She got pregnant by the student, went to prison, had the baby, got pregnant by the student again, got out of prison, married the student, each wrote a book, the student sued the school (where he'd been a student and she'd been a teacher, and where they had multiple sexual encounters) for negligence (and lost). They went on a book tour in France, where they were celebrated as a great "love story." Eventually Letourneau and her student hubby divorced, and he told people that she had stolen his childhood. She died of cancer last year.

I wonder if the Macrons' future will be as grim?

Interesting side note on Notre Dame's burning. In historical preservation jobs, it's common for architects to use a device that basically shoots lasers all over the place to model it *exactly* for builders. But that's not possible if the place has been torched.

In Notre Dame's case though, some video game company had already recently done it - so they could use the model for the Notre Dame level on their game. Very, very fortuitous.

I worked at a firm where they were demonstrating their fancy new one (about six-seven years back). They picked my shop because it was big, and scattered with lots of large obstructions. They set it down in several places and it pretty much did the work on its own, hemming everything together, the pieces of equipment and all. Very impressive.

384 I once made the statement that Hunter was as useless as tits on a boar hog. My Uncle informs me that this is incorrect, as the tits on a boar hog do actually have a function. The number of tits on his sow offspring is the same as on the boar, so if the boar is short a couple of tits, so will be his sow offspring. This is bad news for any piglets she might have, so Hunter is actually far more useless than tits on a boar hog.

387 Slavery was brought to America from Europeans --with an assist from Africans and Muslims--was never 100% supported and lasted about 90 years in the US.

I'm sick of everyone acting as though slavery was only a thing in the US and that only Africans were enslaved.
No context is ever provided.

Slavery is as old as agriculture, writing and war.
Probably older.

395 From my reading of English literature, the English nobility understood that their job involved preventing starvation among the poor. English nobility and gentry did a good job of feeding the poor, thus engendering warmer sentiments.

399 I've lost track of what's been going on in France -- were they heavy-handed about lockdowns like Canada?
Where are they on the EU, do they comply or are they pulling away like the UK?

Don't think the yellow vest issues were ever resolved, and they sure as heck aren;t controlling their refugee problems.
Posted by: Lizzy at June 08, 2021 02:41 PM (bDqIh)

Yellow vest protests went on for years, muzzled by the government run media, and harrassed by pretty violent police action.

400 In all seriousness Macron read the people's climate all wrong. They are pissed. Depressed. Angry, and volatile. They are hurting, going broke, etc.

He's a fool to think he could just out on a rope line and shake hands with "the people." He's not suffering. They are.

Macron was France's Obama - to avoid losing to the right, the left put up an empty suit with a smile. And like Obama and Trudeau he aged badly.

His polling is a disaster vs LePen that even fraud and lies may not help him, so he has no choice but to try and get the old empty suit magic back again,

404 Great post no. 400 and well said. The unrest in Europe started well before the lock downs. And the elites will extend the lockdowns in perpetuity as well because in there absence unrest will reign supreme. The world is BROKE and the amount of staggering debt is going to have real consequences.
