The top Senate tax writers expressed concern Tuesday about the unauthorized disclosure of taxpayer information in a ProPublica report examining more than 15 years’ worth of tax returns for the country’s wealthiest individuals, but they drew different conclusions about how the disclosure should influence their legislative efforts. Senate Finance Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said the report’s findings that America’s wealthiest billionaires paid little in income taxes underscored the need for legislation that would require them to pay their “fair share.” But Finance ranking member Michael D. Crapo, R-Idaho, focused more on the leak of the tax returns, saying it adds to his concerns that the administration’s proposal to require banks to report more taxpayer financial information to the IRS could compromise Americans’ privacy. Wyden brought up the ProPublica report as he opened Tuesday’s hearing on the fiscal 2022 IRS budget request with Commissioner Charles Rettig. He said the data used in the report “appears to be a massive, unauthorized disclosure of taxpayer records” and called on the IRS to investigate the source of the disclosure. Is she an 'ette? Regulars of the AoSHQ know there is total animosity between CBD and Bluebell when it comes to all things NY vs. Boston in the sporting world. However we must agree there is one smart Red Sox fan. A baseball fan was escorted out of Fenway Park in Boston after unveiling a giant banner during a Monday afternoon Red Sox game that read, “Trump Won – Save America,” according to local media and video posted to social media. A team spokesman said that the fan was booted from the park because of a rule prohibiting such signage displays, WCVB5 reported. The banner was unfurled during the fourth inning in the center field bleacher’s seats during a Sox game against the Miami Marlins. Judge Declares George Floyd Rioter That Torched PD Station A ‘Good Person’ & Cuts Him A Break On Tuesday, a judge ordered the Loudoun County, Va., school district to reinstate a physical education teacher who dared to speak out against a policy that would require teachers to endorse transgender identity by using female pronouns to refer to male students and vice versa. Roughly 24 hours later, the district suspended the teacher and barred him from setting foot on school property. The judge ruled that this suspension likely violated the teacher’s First Amendment right to free speech. Not only is it a "Free Speech" issue it is also common sense addressing a mental health issue. Monday's ONT comment section had talk about the new Ford pickup truck. When I hear Ford Maverick I don't think truck, I think a POS sedan from the 70s. ou and I know that pickup trucks are larger—and more expensive—than they've ever been. We'll never see the likes of the original Ford Ranger again, a compact truck with a single bench seat, hand-crank windows, and an available seven-foot bed. The 2022 Ford Maverick aims to be the closest thing to that, though, and while it only comes in four-door configuration, it does its darnedest to fight the good fight with a starting price around $20,000 including destination. Oh, and it comes standard with a super-efficient hybrid powertrain, too. So Karen isn't such a great name at the moment. WASHINGTON (SBG) — Less "Karens" will be asking for the manager after data reveals that the name plummeted in popularity in 2020, the lowest ranking for the name since 1927. The name's decrease in popularity has come a long way since the name was the third-most-popular name for baby girls in 1965, and the viral Karen meme is the most likely reason why. For those unaware of the meme, a "Karen" is typically a white, entitled woman who throws public tantrums thanks to a perceived victim mentality. The meme is often used as a catch-all term for bad behaviors by women with white privilege. According to the Social Security Administration, the name "Karen" dropped 171 spots in baby name rankings for girls in 2020, coming in as the 831st most popular name. Donald Trump may not be in the White House. But he's not done with politics. Former President Donald Trump announced Monday that he plans to travel to Alaska to campaign against Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s re-election. One of the reasons Trump pointed to for this decision was Murkowski’s choice to confirm Biden administration appointees, who then shut down oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve. “Senator Lisa Murkowski has cost the great people of Alaska billions and billions of dollars by voting for Radical Left Biden appointees, which in turn led to the revocation of ANWR drilling, which Alaskans have been fighting to see happen for six decades,” the 45th president said in a statement. “We were two shows into the end of the three-year plan for the farewell tour, when the virus hit and everything was just gone,” singer Johnny Van Zant said in a statement. “Once something is taken away from you - music and touring, in our case - you truly realize how important it is and such a part of your life. Music is a great healer, and that’s what we all turn to when things are good or bad. A Skynyrd show is a family affair, and we want these dates to help heal our fans as much as ourselves." They owned a business together. Both loved nature. Both served in the U.S. Army, and both experienced firsthand some of the challenges military veterans can face. When Poissant passed away four years ago from cancer, Weber could think of no better way to honor their 30-year union than by supporting military veterans in need. In order to make that happen, Weber is donating 36 rural acres bordering New Jersey’s Pinelands National Reserve to be used as a rehabilitation center/retreat for mental illness and addiction. Hi everyone. Still trying to watch "1941" which I downloaded because people (unnamed people) said it was a great, underrated comedy.
It's not. This is a film that was made by people who have NO sense of humor at all. "Humor? That's when someone gets punched in the face and falls out of a plane and breaks their hip, right?" That would be funny if the Three Stooges did it, because the Three Stooges understood physical comedy. Beavis and Butthead understood comedy. SCTV understood comedy. Everyone involved in "1941" had no idea at all of what comedy is. The lack of laughs proves this. Posted by: BeckoningChasm at June 08, 2021 09:08 PM (OU+8W) 41

We were visited a few weeks ago by old friends. She's named Karen, and they live in Portland. Anyway, she bought him a t-shirt there that says "Not Today, Karen". I laughed when I saw it, and he said they were walking near the WH when a Capitol Police type saw them coming, busted out laughing, and asked to take a picture with them.
I think everybody is sick of Karens, even Karen. Posted by: pep at June 08, 2021 09:33 PM (v16oJ) 171

Bete: that's why bedliners were invented. Or your friend could have just accepted that a pickup is a working vehicle, not a show vehicle. If you use it for hauling stuff, it's gonna get dinged, and probably sooner rather than later.
Knew a guy who had a nearly brand new pickup who went to the gravel pit to get a load of gravel for his drive. The crane operator raised the bucket to the same height you'd normally used to load a big dump truck and dropped the load. As my friend put it, "That took the new right off my truck." I love the top picture.
My son took a class in Earth Science in HS, but if you really got past the droning teaching, the science is fascinating. For instance, the 'snaking' of a river or stream has really nothing to do with topography or location or geography. As water flows, it takes sediments down stream. The larger particles begin to fall out, build up, and the stream is forced to change course, take more sediment down, and then the large particles fall after a distance and build up and the stream turns the other way, etc etc...people always think that its winding way must be due to the way the land lays, but its more about physics and not really much else. I grew up in WNY and Cory Wells was from Buffalo, so Three Dog Night were treated almost like local heroes. His real name was Emil Lewandowski.
I remember a summer program at the Y, I would have been pre-K so 4 years old, as we kids all waited out in the lobby for our parents to pick us up, there was a jukebox, and any kid who had a dime (put another dime in the jukebox, baby!) would play "Joy to the World" or "Black and White" and all the kids would sing along. I can't speak to North Korea particularly, but South Korea gets damn hot. Fricking Alabama hot, and extremely humid. I hated that. I'd expect the North is no slouch in that department. From the air, the demilitarized zone and north looks dry and barren, it is remarkable.

Posted by: Boswell at June 08, 2021 09:44 PM (5iUNf) Yep. I have my vinyl Dark Side and Brain Salad Surgery framed on the mancave wall along with some other ones, chosen as much for the cover art as the music. Breakfast in America. Yes's Drama. Thick as a Brick. Some punk/new wave like the first Ramones album and the 2nd Talking Heads album.
The old record album frames were heavy glass and metal affairs that required wall anchors. The new light, plastic ones can hang up with a Command strip and you can just leave the album in it if you want (I don't) and easily take them down to play them. With the old frames it was a cumbersome affair with clips to remove and replace and all that. Posted by: Guy Smiley at June 08, 2021 10:16 PM (Bmy3R) 332

Posted by: Dave in Fla at June 08, 2021 10:02 PM (5p7BC) Yeah, its going to happen slowly if it happens at all up here in the Northeast. 272 "Black & White" would certainly be problematic these days, what with it's hopeful message of a colorblind society where everybody treats each other like humans and gets along.
=========== Too true, that. "Black and White" had that power to convince us all that MLK had been right all along and it was going to be alright. Obviously the Marxists in Democrat clothing couldn't have all that happy message of love, peace, understanding, and togetherness. So the song is in the counterculture again these days. Tbh, everything is tedious these days. What I "want" or think Inwant, and what I "need" (versus what I'm gonna get) is hard to figure. Punching out and travelling sounds good. A house is great though, some place to call home.
I have assets that I don't want to get rid of, mainly because I don't want to go through the hassle of buying again. Especially with all the monetary inflation coming. I'd like to rent my house out, and travel the West. What I need is a pretty good taskmaster, to keep me motivated. A guy without a good woman, he's just spinnin' his wheels. Yeah, where I live, the houses (for the most part) aren't YUGE, but a lot of them are nice. There are a few big uns.
My neighbor shoots in his back yard (his yard backs up to a big forest). It's quiet here most of the time. Noisiest time of the week is Monday, when the trash trucks come. No sidewalks, just the streets. A lot of people drive golf carts and off-road vehicles to race around the neighborhood. We have a lot of chipmunks in the yard. They're hilarious, but make a lot of holes in the lawn. So we sprinkle granules that smell like fox urine around them. And then, there are the real foxes that roam the neighborhood.....after dark. I put nothing on a calendar on a phone, or any device. No apps, other than the factory installed bloatware.
My ideal phone would be basically near-to a dumb phone, but with text, camera, and the ability to hit the 'net, if needed. Not a game console, not a 4k movie camera. And to top it off with a cherry, the ability to manually turn OFF the camera and microphones. Actual phone calls notwithstanding, of course. My old Sanyo, non-flip dumb fone was the best. A week of battery power, and antenna that could reach OUT, and connect. Pity. Ancient tech, I don't think it'd even see a tower, today. Right, The Marijuana is dioecious, separate male and female plants. In Iowa we still see wild patches of weed now and then in ditches and odd corners. Birds love the stuff, I expect. Tons of seed. I think it is remnants of WWII era hemp production, for rope, before the invention of Nylon took over everything cordage wise.
The old hippies told me it wasn't any good, "smoke a bale of it and not even cop a good headache". They would know, I guess. Posted by: Common Tater at June 09, 2021 12:05 AM (dyShS) 495

Ha! There's a local ish story from Iowa, one of the police chiefs is having some legal trouble, among other things parties where people would voluntarily get tased. I'm not sure what the allure is, I assume alcohol was involved. Unfortunately sole judge was having none of it, and crafted a big argument on how people could have died, and nobody can consent to being tased.
Frankly I found her arguments less than compelling, and I bet the chiefs parties compared with hers are way more funner. Posted by: Common Tater at June 09, 2021 12:14 AM (dyShS) 506

"You do not brag about being in the MENSA Club."
My fav instance dealing with a so-called Mensa was back in college with a cult leader trying to prey on my sister. I was trying to size up what I was dealing with ("his groupings are to the left so dodge right if it comes to that"...) and, having just read Dune, I replied to one of his bullsht remarks with "you mean like a mentat?" "yes, like a mensa, did you know I'm a mensa?" "Of course, isn't it obvious?" as I played into it to keep him off-guard. Yes you were SO clever, fat little perv preying on college girls. In 2003 a Ford Ranger plain with manual trans and a real spare and bed liner was off the lot 15,900.
I know cuz I bought one. More fool me tho cause the 2003 had nothing like the comfort and utility of the previous ranger I based my decision on a 1987 that was a work truck for the power company. I loved that 87 but it had too many miles and the opportunity came up for me to buy a brand new truck. (I never had a new vehicle ever before.) Thought that the 87 was good then the 03 should be at least okay. NO. They hulked it out on the body which took away room from inside. It was downright uncomfortable to drive for any length of time. Hit my knees and foot so that they were killing me by the end of a long drive. That and some other problems but it still was better than walking but I missed my 87. They always do that. Come out with a good vehicle and go for a few years with max sales then they start dinking it up. Making it bigger, more accessories, "stylish", and of course more appealing to . . . women. To top it off in 2010 with 107,000 miles the hydraulic actuator for the clutch blew and it's a 1500 job minimum. Tried to separate the trans from the engine but it was glued. "To see Kamala flail haplessly, yes it's funny, but also makes me weep for America"
It's an own goal. Biden admin intended her Border "czar" duties to be focused on South American countries and why they are running to America. Probably some Marxist narrative but they forget to have their "DNC operatives with bylines" spread the word so now it looks like she's incompetent re the southern border. Although I suspect that was the goal all along, to make her look incompetent. Whoever our real President currently is, they don't like Kamala. Which means the Pres is probably female since they would be immune to Kamala's oral charms? Posted by: Hoyt's Paid Turkish Provocateur at June 09, 2021 04:54 AM (83lwH) 634
