My belief is that he will be there for longer than people are anticipating...barring a major medical issue. Like you said, it's not like he's doing much of anything. This is the same reason "Imperials" in Star Wars movies speak with British accents. A lot of the filming of the original trilogy took place in England, and it was easier and cheaper to cast locals in those roles. It ended up being a nice bit of flavor for the mythos!

My wife is a product through master's degree of California education. All she knew about who served in Vietnam was McNamara's 100,000, which as far as she knew was representative of the entire veteran population. Of course she didn't know anyone personally. I was the first real veteran of any combat service she had ever met, other than as a patient.

Uh well, CVS does accept EBT and SNAP cards for food purchases and baby formula. People don't HAVE to have expensive hair care products and the air you breathe will dry your hair.

I worked remodeling CVS stores all over the country and you could tell what kind of clientele they had by what products and merchandise was locked up. Laundry detergent was also a big theft item. Many times, I was working on the other side of the store and heard the emergency exit alarm go off as some thief carried as many jugs of tide pods as he could hold and went out the back door. Also why baby formula is either locked up or stored behind the checkout counter. Perfumes and colognes were also locked up.

250 I watched a movie on TCM early this morning called From Hell to Eternity starring the guy who played the first Enterprise Captain on Startrek . Jeffrey Something. The story is of young white boy adopted by a Japanese family in California who learns Japanese and volunteers to act as an interpreter in the Pacific. He goes on to save about 400 civilians from committing suicide on either Saipan or Okinawa, I forget which.

When I first watched it, I thought it was ridiculously outlandish as a premise. It turns out it is a true story.

Who can learn Japanese? It's one of the hardest languages to learn.

"Tribes" with Darren McGavin and Jan Michael Vincent. Not a war movie, but an accurate depiction of what Marine basic training was like in the late 60's early 70's during Vietnam War era. Filmed at MCRD in San Diego. My Dad used to work there as a civilian employee after getting out of the Navy.

Yeeesh. Don't make yourself worry. Watch "Hail, the Conquering Hero" and comedy from 1944 involving a group of Marines helping out a guy rejected from the service for having chronic allergies.

Lots of fun. some good laughs. And respect for the Marines and what they do.

It's outstanding. i worked with a guy who does not know a lot about military stuff who stumbled onto it channel surfing, about 5 years ago. He was about 35 at the time. He loved it; could not believe he had never heard of it.

289 Wow, I remember that one - think it was an ABC "Movie of the Week". Late friend who enlisted at MCRD in November '41 ("timing is everything") said he was in another movie - they used footage from his graduation day in the flick. Shores of Tripoli? Can't remember the name.

I remember watching it on TV when it first played with my Marine uncle, who thought it was very accurate. I think it was made for TV, not for cinema.

296 And if you're trying to pick movies for today/tonight, you can do a lot worse than hitting youtube and binging on episodes of COMBAT! Excellent show from the sixties with Vic Morrow, Rick Jason. If you've never picked up on this one, treat yourself. (I think one of the honchos on this show was Robert Pirosh, who if memory serves wrote HELL IS FOR HEROES, a good war picture with Steve McQueen.)
