Amber Midthunder, best known for her roles in Legion and Roswell, has reportedly been cast in the lead role in the forthcoming Predator sequel.
According to both The Ronin and Discussing Film, Midthunder has signed on to star in the project, which leaked reports suggest will centre around "a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior."

19 Okay, I have a theory. Bear with me.

Predator as a franchise has been an absolute shit show for an extremely long time. Movie after movie in the series has opened to less and less money and acclaim. Predator has become a bad joke and is nearly worthless as a property.

This newest scheme is a cynical play. By throwing out *everything* and having a race-and-sex-swapped lead character acting as an alien-hunting woke hero, they're hoping to generate actual ticket sales. This wouldn't work in a real franchise that people like, but for Predator - which is on the ropes - the hate views and the virtue-signaling woke folk may result in this having a stronger performance than at least the last two (if not last three) installments.

If the play works, they get to revalue the franchise on the books if they can sell out to another media conglomerate before the next installment enters development.

I'd buy it, but, Hollywood no longer knows how to write an interesting story. Good stories are about characters coupled with plots without to many glaring holes.

Hollywood is trying to avoid doing the actual work of making a decent product and, instead, is going the cheap route of recasting with minor edits instead of creating a new and compelling story line.

I think it's just a symptom of our collapsing country.

We can no longer win wars. We can no longer govern well. We can no longer report the news. We can no longer do anything that makes economic or financial sense. And we can no longer make good entertainment.

Lot's of reasons behind it, I'm sure, but I'd say "nepotism" and "cultish behavior" are up near the top. I'm sure people felt the same way in the declining part of every civilization in the past.

Modern day girl, disassociated from the world around her, retreats into vivid dreams of the 1960s where she is someone else, a far more glamorous person. She becomes obsessed with this other life, letting it bleed into her real life (exemplified by her getting the same hair as the girl from the 60s). However, there's something sinister hiding in the past, probably around Matt Smith and probably involving death and murder.

May be real time travel. May just be ghosts. Definitely inspired by Italian Giallo movies.

The Predator reboot sounds as bad as the last one. What happened Shane Black? "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang" and "The Real Guys" were great.

The only place to go with a Predator film is to turn it into a survival film told from the Predator's point of view. Predator goes on safari somewhere, he's new to it, and the prey almost kills him. Spends most of the film trying to survive until help returns or he can get to a pick up site.

I would love to see a spy / action movie that embraced that. The woman relies on NOT being a superhero to accomplish the goals. Seduction, poison, sneaking in the shadows to avoid the 200lb trained killers with MP5s, etc. No kicking, no hand to hand fighting, and no CGI effects to hide the wires while she flies through the air attacking henchmen head-on.

That would be refreshing.

I take a back seat to no-one in my dislike for modern movies (I think the last one I saw in a theater - outside of a revival - was The Artist), but Hollywood at its best made some wonderful movies dedicated only to making an audience laugh or cry or escape their own loneliness for a while.

Without movies, we would have no The General, no City Lights, no It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, no Cleopatra. . .well, you get the idea.

When the world around you and your own life are depressing and poisonous, a movie can lift all of the dirt and grime from your soul even if only for a moment.

on a sort of related side note, I finally watch Costner/Harrellson (my wife I was surprised I watched a Woody Harrellson movie) Highwaymen. I only got interested in it watching clips on You Tube. Glad I did, good movie, didn't glorify the bad guys, no woke shit.

443 I watched "Without Remorse" last night. It's a Clancy novel about a white special ops dude who gets revenge on a drug gang. Now it's a movie about a black guy who fights Russians because the US govt is corrupt. Totally changed the entire plot.
