The wife is having an outing which leaves me with the kids and far too little duct tape.

26 Went grocery shopping yesterday. Sign on door says no masks needed if vax. I knew that and didn't wear a mask. Practically the only customer in the big store not wearing a mask. I got a lot of dirty looks and people avoiding me. Everyone seems to be ready to wear a mask until the end of time.

If you raised 'em right, shouldn't be any problem.

I took my daughter out to the yard first thing in the morning every day when she was an infant and let her go potty. Also fed her in separate area away from the dog and cat.

Now as teenager, she pretty much knows when she needs to use the bathroom and I just throw a plate food down and a bowl of water and let her free feed. If the weather is nice I'll let her run loose in the yard.

Honestly, I think the noise is kind of cool. It's amazing to me their 17-year gestation and about 6 week life cycle.

But I could do without all the carcasses from the shells they crawl out of, and then the big goofy red beady eyes and tendency to be everywhere I'd like to sit or walk.

I have to go out with a broom once or twice a day to sweep off the porch, deck, and in front of the garage.

90 Well, looking at the GasBuddy gas shortage page, I-95S in North Carolina seems to have enough gas to not be an issue.

Probably hit the Pilot at MM180, which allows arrive in Charleston with 125 miles of reserve, without another stop.

If it looks iffy, we can always visit Pedro, at SOB and top off. That puts us at a full tank, and 142 miles remaining.

Easy peasy....once we ever get rolling.

The first time I stopped for gas in New Jersey I got out of the car and walked up and started to pump my own gas. Much screaming commenced by the guys working there. I had no idea it was illegal for me to do that.

213 I always loved that gasoline/diesel exhaust smell, and I finally remembered where it started. When I was 5 or 6, my parents took me on a cross country train ride from Phoenix to Milwaukee, took 3 days. (1965, passenger train service was already on the way out, but there were some lines that were still running; this was long before AmTrak) It was magical, watching the country roll by through those observation windows - the desert, the Rockies, the endless plains - and we had to change trains in the middle of the night in this old train yard in St. Louis, and it felt like a scene in an old black and white Film Noire movie, and that diesel smell from the idling train engines permeated the atmosphere. It was like a living dream, and clearly I never forgot it!

I also remember the Milwaukee train station which was our terminus. All of these marvelous old station buildings with cast iron ornamentation, very late 19th century but still working. I went down there on a visit some years ago, all that's left is a few brick foundations and fields of grass - now it's just a place for people to sit on blankets and watch fireworks out on Lake Michigan.

Its the only state in the nation with a 100% full service rule. Whenever changing it comes up (which is rare) there is a cacophony from people who insist that gas must be provided by professionals because the task is too hard, or because they dont want to get out of their car.

219 Kwik Fill stations in PA have an attendant who will pump your gas. It isn't mandatory and it's kind of nice if you're a bit crippled up. Which brings me to having to go in, pay before you pump, and then go back in for the change. A cashier by the pumps would be nice.

it's been at least 10 years since I've had to do that, maybe more. I thought every station had gone to just stick the card in the pump, get your gas, and go. Well, I stick to Exxon and Valero, they've got the most stations around here and that's how they all work. I haven't seen a station with an actual gas attendant since before the millenium.

Costco has a little man in a booth in case there's a glitch, but otherwise, you stick your card in, pump your gas and go. I thought it was like that everywhere.

South Jersey they would sooner rip your head off than let you pump your own gas is my experience.
It use to be a lot cheaper so would fill up coming home from a NJ job but last two years hardly is any different.

there was an organized crime ring run by some Cubans across the south that was cracking open the pumps and putting card readers inside them that would do that. It was broken up, and now there are plastic seals on the spot where the pump casing can be opened to show that they haven't been tampered with. Btw, it never worked on specialty cards, like Exxon - they were after Visa and MC numbers.

Will all be gone soon. If you take a plastic straw, and bite down on the last 1/4" of the straw, you can flatten it. Make it nice and flat by dragging it through your teeth.

Then, take a pair of scissors, and cut off the edges along the sides of that 1/4". Cut the corners into a curve.

You've just made a reed instrument. If you blow through it nice and hard, it will make a low noise, like a duck. Then, cut the straw at different lengths, and you can make higher and higher tones with the straw. If you have several children, each one could have a straw with a different length.

They can play the straws like a band for your wife when she gets home. Hours of fun.
