We have extremely dramatic skies in Kansas. Dutch landscapers would weep that they missed our land-sky interface, and the squall lines.
Yesterday evening, we has some shelf clouds and virga, with a yellow horizon, and then the tops of a long, powerful squall line over 100 miles away. Like ramparts in the sky. He was one of those guys who's shtick you had to be down with, it was just him and a guitar. He did a good job holding the interest of the crowd, considering he was matched with a rock group. Kinda like Randy Newman. Saw him before he became famous. Just a guy and his piano. He played and "sang" well, of course. But, he was really charming with his remarks between songs, sometimes even laughing during his songs when they got particularly silly or crazy. Great show. Just bought a VW Tiguan for the wife. I HATE the thing. It beeps at you constantly and takes control of steering whenever it thinks you are out of a lane.
I like a lot of the driver assists (backup radar has saved my ass on 3 occasions, and blind-spot radar makes highway lane changes much simpler) but the stay-in-lane thing I turned off day 1 and never turned it back on. Posted by: Ian S. at May 27, 2021 09:58 AM (ZGrMX) 445
I kept trying to talk a friend into selling me his 80s diesel Mercedes wagon so I could put a 350 with velocity stacks in it, tub it out and put some ridiculously wide tires in back, and jack up the rear end (quite) a bit.
I really hate that I never got the chance to do that. That's the "Yat" dialect, which I grew up hearing and learned to speak as protective coloration as a kid. Its name comes from the old NO expression "Where y'at?", which is not asking where you are physically located, but how you're doing. The dialect is heard more in the suburbs now than in the city, and it's fading some even out there.

That actually makes a lot of sense. You could theoretically not have a starter motor entirely as long as the computer knows where the cylinders are (and it definitely does). Posted by: Ian S. at May 27, 2021 10:03 AM (ZGrMX) 463

Councilman Antonio Brown was attending a ribbon-cutting ceremony at an event in northeast Atlanta around noon when at least four kids jumped into his car and took off, FOX 5 of Atlanta reported."You don't immediately think, 'Oh, these kids are going to steal my car,'" Brown said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Last year, he voted in support of an ordinance to withhold $73 million from the budget of the Atlanta Police Department. The only way that story could be better is if he got held up and beaten while walking home. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at May 27, 2021 10:05 AM (2JVJo) 467
I have to admit being intrigued by an EV that can double as a whole house back up power source. Very clever of Ford to mention that in their literature. A very expensive option, I'm sure. However, I'll note that my wife and I drive about 100 miles a month, just around town getting booze and groceries. We're retired so an EV might make sense to use here, but I would not trust it more than 25 miles from home. There's no infrastructure for EV's here in rural Kentucky, and that electric F-150 requires 80 amps for the charging gear.

Robbie - hubby and I are actually considering finding a used wagon that he can keep in repair when we need to replace my car. We don't want a car that is phoning home to Google or Apple, and even if we did, I hate cute utes and crossovers, but those are basically the only affordable options if you have two tall sons (I currently have small sons, but by the time we replace my car, they won't be small anymore).

Posted by: Martini Farmer at May 27, 2021 09:54 AM (3H9h1) That's not hard to believe at all. Homes use much less energy than cars do.
