Its A Beautiful Day In The ONThood

Hello neighbors. Welcome to Ace of Spades. Are you having a nice day? That's nice. I hope you are enjoying the website today.

Waldforf.jpg

Nostalgia

So, this was the inspiration for the ONT opening.

Of course, we all know that Mr. Rogers was from a more primitive time. His show did nothing to fight cis-het hate or to acknowledge the struggles of non-binary persons of alternative coloring to overcome the oppression of the patriarchy. I mean, it's like they didn't even care about properly raising kids back then!

There's one for Bob Ross too.

Good News Of The Week

Gov. Greg Abbott signs 'fetal heartbeat' bill banning most abortions in Texas

Of course there is great wailing and gnashing of teeth on the left about this “assault” on a woman's 'Constitutional right” *spit* to murder her child, and there will be the inevitable court battles over the law, but I'm awfully glad it's down on paper. It'll be that much easier to keep when/if our great national divorce happens.

As an aside, I laughed when the article said that conservatives now hold a “6-3” advantage on the SCOTUS. It's 5-4 at best. Anyone who thinks Roberts is “conservative” needs to wash their brain out with bleach (Thanks Dubya!). The idea that that ass will do anything to threaten the “prestige” of the court (read: anything that upsets the DC cocktail party set) is ludicrous.

News You Can Use

Bears Like Gay Oral Sex, According To Important New Scientific Study

Shit, 5 minutes in a San Francisco boathouse would have told you that. There's no need for “an important new study”. I want to know if it happens among bears raised completely in the wild. These bears were orphans living in a sanctuary. I've long believed that some (not all) gay humans are gay as a result of childhood trauma (sexual abuse), is it so strange that bears might have similar experiences?

Check Your Zoom Before Signing On

Judge rips Michigan man who appeared for his virtual arraignment as ‘Buttf–ker 3000’

Saxton reappeared a few minutes later and said his sister had set up his Zoom account, adding that the unfortunate name was an inside joke.

“Is your sister there?” the judge asked him.
“No, unfortunately, she is not,” Saxton replied.
“Tell her she almost got you put in jail for contempt of court,” Middleton said, eliciting another apology.

Truck Carrying Gaming Dice Spills Onto Highway, Rolls A Perfect 756,000

Best line?

The truck was undamaged, having made its saving throw.

Bad Takes

Shrek at 20: an unfunny and overrated low for blockbuster animation

To say that the article reeks of pretension is underselling it by quite a bit.

Musical Interlude

For some reason this one particular video won't upload to the ONTWTF account. Weird.

A Girl Needs Her Tendies

My ex-husband fed my vegan daughter McDonald’s chicken nuggets behind my back – now she keeps demanding meat

The internet seems to be rallying around the mom, and I actually do think that one parent shouldn't change the agreed upon dietary restrictions for a child without at least informing the other parent, but I'm glad the kid got some real food.

Mainly because I'd have to banhammer myself for if I said what I was thinking.

My grandd is 12. Parents and other bad influences have convinced her she is a vegan. She's underweight, anemic, sickly, listless, her periods are all over the place, and unhappy. Now and then, I'll get her to eat an egg if she hasn't filled up on candy and sweets that she hides and stuffs her face with when she thinks I'm not looking.

She has other problems but her eating (or not!) is the biggest.

111 > You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille

There was a guy who used to work for a certain ...government entity... here in Alaska who, while traveling around the state on a government boat, picked up a tranny hooker (which he claimed he didn't know until it became completely obvious at a certain stage -- possibly true, as much alcohol was likely also involved) and brought her back to the boat. An altercation developed over this, and the cops were called (they were in the harbor at the time).

"Her" name was "Lucille".

The guy got off with a reprimand, plus about a year's worth of every guy in the shop starting to sing "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille..." whenever he walked in the door.

Let freedom ring, let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today

Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay
It's Independence Day.

The one over the counter and behind the fridge I knew on Friday, but I only figured out the third was out when I tried to plug in the fridge and it didn't work. For a moment I thought the fridge was out too, but tested the outlet with the nightlight and it didn't work. And the electrician had already changed the outlet so he had thought everything was fixed. Anyway, fridge was fine (now clean too) and my outlets are fixed. Took electrician about four hours (he also installed two outside lights for me).

So I'm grateful I don't have to replace my fridge and I discovered that third broken outlet in time for it to be fixed.

Which may be happening anyway, judging from the latest Palestinian attacks on Jews. In America. While those Democrat leaders justify it or ignore it.

Remember which party has infected American life with these sister-fucking, low IQ vermin the last 30 years. That party is the true enemy of a peaceful, growing society.

270 Big difference between leftists in my life and normal people regarding the vaccine. The leftists believe that they are not safe unless everyone else is vaccinated, like the nurse who was going to travel to Florida and felt she must wear a mask there despite being fully vaxxed. Florida's vaccination rate is among the highest of US states but in her mind Floridians are unsafe because they have been less fascist about forcing vaccines.

The normal people were fine being around people before their shots and after their shots and have a normal expectation of protection from their shots. You know, just like most vaccinated people are not worried about polio and smallpox.

314 WD - Unfortunately they have a loophole they are using. The vax status reporting is voluntary, you can opt out and refuse to answer (which I will continue to do). But they will only give the badges to people who opt in.

And they can still require employees to wear masks and do temp screenings, they are just waiving it for those wearing the badge.

My personal theory is that all of these pressure tactics and lotteries are because a significant percentage of people know this pandemic is over hyped and aren't going to get the vax for the same reason people like me don't get flu shots. The danger is so low, there is no point.

I think it will all backfire on them when they make the holdouts visible like this, and we keep telling them to fuck off. Eventually, they are going to get into legal trouble.

337 would you let Mr Rogers babysit your kid?

Posted by: vmom stabby stabby stabby stabamillion at May 20, 2021 10:43 PM (IMQiW)

we leave that to teenage girls. I doubt I had a babysitter more than two times. I went to a daycare once for a reason and also another time while visiting cousins. I could not believe those kids lived that way, it was Lord of the Flies. I truly hated it. There is something about growing up with daycare that just doesn't sit right with me. It was the first helicoptering, the first kids who wore helmets even walking down the block. Yeah I had privilege, I admit it. When i saw how they lived, I became truly grateful. There is something about freedom that can't fully be explained. Even if the kid is watched, if he believes he is free, it matters a crap load.

338 Everybody is all "No Way" when asked if they'd let Mr. Rogers babysit their kid.

339 311 Bete, I read that Lady Cassandra once says a throwaway line in a Doctor Who episode, that Earth "was where I lived when I was a boy." (!!!)
Posted by: qdpsteve at May 20, 2021 10:37 PM (L2ZTs)

I don't recall that. Maybe? If so it was so throw away it didn't register as she talks of her (many) husbands and is very clearly a lady in the eps presented.

*looks* Well she did, but she is also presented through out the episode as a gigantic liar and even in the story she is telling there is enough "real" stuff mentioned that it is probably used to show she is a liar (calling a jukebox an iPod for example).

Russel T. Davis was not shy when wanting to push an agenda (Hi Captain Jack-oh, bye Cancelled Jack!) that he would not have been subtle. Plus I doubt he'd have made a character with pretty much no redeeming qualities (again, spectacular racist) as trans. Also how she reacts when in the 10th Doctor's body doesn't make sense if she was born a "he."

Just for fun, because of how Dr. Who's rights work due to a charity program it was pseudo cannon that Rowan Atkinson was the Doctor, and in the same special the Doctor turned female.

Boggles the mind, it does.

Regarding the Grauniad oped (and oddly conservative-ish for a lefty rag) on Shrek, I agree in part. Shrek wasn't *that* bad but it wasn't that good. A stock non-Disney animated film with a halfway decent hook that was, at best, mildly amusing at times. The animation was of the era but also overly realistic when it needed to be more stylized and expressive.

354 Basically the BBC treats all licensed stuff as a squishy canon, until they decide to abandon it. This includes continuity in the TV series, as the Daleks have a messy origin that doesn't piece together unless you do a lot of "what they meant..." or "From a certain point of view" to quote another Sci Fi series that plays fast and loose with its cannon.

Which is kind of what Star Trek does except they treat only TV/Movies as cannon (or use to, not sure now) until they want it gone. For fun, Roddenberry only considered parts of the animated episode Yesteryear of Spock's childhood canon.

I remember when Marines would bad mouth the Army. The Army would bad mouth the Air Force, etc. Right now I am not sure what is up. But the Army went woke too soon not in all quarters, but enough of them. They need to bring back inter service pride and rivalry. They tried to ruin it after Grenada of all places. We need to get some of that back. If they can't make fun of each other, it will be all woke all the time with what is going on.

384 The fact of the matter is that when you are in a close relationship, it increases your attractiveness to others. And it will happen even if they don't know you are in a relationship.

I know that's sound e.s.p. ish but it's true. I think it's in how you speak and how your carry yourself. More confidence, less tense when speaking/interacting with the gender that attracts you. And that transmits to some people who are sensitive to it. They may not realize what it is. (and they may but don't care)

This applies to both genders and of course increases the more you are famous in your particulara sized pond.

What stops it from happening is mostly serendipity and a tiny bit of morals. I say tiny bit because it's very common that if the situation is perfect for a tryst then it will usually happen. Even amongst the very upright and particular moral.

It probably has something to do with evolution striving for the most sexual congress so as to increase population.

404 Stephen King has a story in his semi-autobio "Danse Macabre" about his favorite radio dramas that explored horror.

He describes one about a 'painless' dentist who finds today's patient is... the man who stole his wife away. So the dentist does what anyone would: ties said patient to the table, tells him it's only painless if there is 'absolutely no movement,' and turns on the drill.

King says the rest of the episode is sounds of the drill, followed by the dentist explaining what he's doing.

The episode ends with the dentist finally saying "just one more to really finish you," and a LONG (over a minute), loud, very aggressive drilling sound is heard.

Then the episode ends. No one explains what exactly happened. :-)

They might have as part of the eating people, but the obsession was born in Return. A zombie explains that it (they) are always in pain and only the eating of brains brings any relief. And the Evil Dead monsters were more obsessed with swallowing souls than physical matter.

421 "She's as Beautiful as a Foot", originally written as "He's as Beautiful as a Foot", was written by outside collaborater Richard Meltzer for Soft White Underbelly because he hated its singer Les Braunstein and wanted him to sing something embarrassing. It was intended to be about Braunstein.

Oh, right, for those not in the know, "Soft White Underbelly" was the original precursor to "Blue Oyster Cult". BOC kept the song after it fired Braunstein, retained Eric Bloom who was their van driver/live sound guy, and became "Stalk-Forrest Group", the immediate predecessor to BOC. "Foot" is on their first album. It's a fun, odd, but quite musical tune.

It was a whoopsie, as they had it on the original credits but when they retitled the film and made a new title screen it was left out (or cut off at the bottom, I forget).

It's possible in the long run this got the film more play than it would have had and gave a lift to the sequels...though that would mean the mistake is to blame in some way for Land of the Dead.

430 The chicken nugget story is a sticky-wicket.
In a perfect world, divorced parents should work things out. But there are points in which you just have to say "F*ck you, let's fight".

My 16 YO daughter does not want the COVID vax. Her reasoning:

COVID isn't likely to kill her. There aren't long term studies on it. She feels the risk of side effects is larger than the risk of COVID.

Her mom wants her to get it. I don't care if she gets it or not. She does not want it.

My position: You are 16, it's your life. I trust you to drive a car. I trust you to make reproductive health choices. It's your decision. If her mom decides to force her to, there will be war. I'm for protecting her autonomy to the death.

The "Shrek" slash fest article got one thing right -
But it's worth pointing out how comprehensively bad its legacy remains, opening up the floodgates for other major studios to pile celebrities into recording booths, feed them committee-polished one-liners and put those lines in the mouths of sassy CGI animals or human-ish residents of the uncanny valley. Worse yet, it encouraged a destructive, know-it-all attitude toward the classics that made any earnest engagement with them seem like a waste of time.

The gKids were watching "Happy Feet" the other day and I could not help but notice what a glib waste of time it was. Animated features have become self-referential, repetitive, and now, woke, as their entertainment tanks run on "E".

439 Ray Manzarek got out of being drafted by saying he thought he was gay.

There was a case of a gay sergeant some 40-ish years ago who was discharged, with something like 17 years of service, because he was gay. He sued and won. His defense was that he was drafted for 'Nam, told them he was gay, the Army didn't care, he liked being in the Army so he performed well, he kept getting asked to re-up, he was happy to but told them he's gay, but they didn't care until he was getting close to his magic 20 (retirement). I don't remember how far up the court system it went, but the reasoning was that he was always up front with the Army and it was utterly unfair to discharge him so short of a full career and retirement when there was nothing else he could do at that point. Basically called the Army on playing dirty pool. Seems fair.

500 Traffic at the range more/less back to pre-panic "normal". Impossible to know, but hard to imagine ammo price/availability is *not* putting a crimp in traffic.

One bit of traffic that's up - illegal aliens. Border is very close. I am a bit puzzled though. I thought the barrier had been extended out to and beyond this point, which would mean zero foot traffic of the sort that's lately picked up. It's so nice to directly experience the idiotic degradation of the country this way, and in a scenic spot.

Also, a large doe loped across the main range not long after opening (only two shooters at the time). Some beautiful western orioles (yellow/black), and finches with red breasts. No roadrunners.

you are wrong about Rocky but that is ok. Empire is more respected, I recall the old school movie books that rated it four stars, no other Star Wars movie got those accolades. But if you were a kid when Star Wars came out, you would know really nothing compared to it. Yes Jaws in a way, but the Jaws effect was negative. Star Wars was the first movie where lines went around the back, and the kids stayed to watch it again and it didn't matter how much time it took.

Because English is an unruly language that doesn't always follow the rules so it makes new ones with more carve outs at the same time the language shifts about as it will, in part due to popular culture. Someone had a thing (here maybe?) exploring just how far into the past you could go and still understand the language. Unlike say Latin, it wasn't more than 200-300 years IIRC.

The adults i respected probably already had it in them, but for some reason I thought people really did change. I didn't want to hold child school bullies for example to that for life. Why would a "con" not know what a forward air controller is? are you so indoctrinated that you don't know that right up until the last few years, the military has always been conservative?
Shit, the Union Army during the civil war was mainly run by conservative Democrats. Their own former commanding General ran against Honest Abe. You think a bunch of Lefty pukes fought at Belleau Wood, Normandy, and Khe Sanh? I am not saying liberals did not fight there, I won't disrespect their service. But the reality is 90 percent were not leftists. And even those who were Dems would look at the modern party as something from freaking Mars.

A good author can sell things it is very hard to even modern BGI to match. And IIRC Alan Dean Foster did the Alien novelization and he is such an author. And there are parts of the Alien film where it is clearly a very tall man in a suit.

I remember waiting in long lines for movies. Especially at the former Golden Ring Mall in eastern Baltimore County (Weird Dave probably remembers it). I think there was a Fredericks of Hollywood there too. Good times as an 80s kid!!

ET gets by on its soundtrack. Seriously, watch the film with that in mind and you'll realize just how much the score manipulates you to feel for the film as the film is dry without it. Now, that is the case of lots of films, but ET seems to use it as a crutch rather than as a more subtle tool.

604 542 life is short learn to live

This is my point, they are stuck in first or second gear, when life is like one of those 18 gear tractor trailer transmissions. They just fuck their life up, and by extension, everyone around them. It's insidious. No self awareness.

Now, these days, to add insult to injury, instead of any empirical knowledge, facts, logic or reasoning skills, they have their heads getting stuffed chock full of authentic frontier gibberish, courtesy of a bunch of pseudointellectual quacks.
Posted by: Common Tater at May 20, 2021 11:58 PM (H4xk5)

After using the equivalent of low range gears to get through life, like the Left so desperately wants to do, there is nothing more racist and hateful than high range gears in a semi. And that isn't even the worst!
Just wait until they have to shift into the overdrive gears and shift all of them again.

good point. And I agree, it was an us vs. Them thing. The irony is that was much more rare in that actual age. That movie would fit in well in this era. Sure they would need to make the cosmetic changes that make out time the way it is.

Posted by: Quint at May 21, 2021 12:50 AM (7qDXo)

632 Ah, Goonies. Andi was one of those first young women I remember seeing on screen that started to get the old cavemen juices flowing. Heck, whazhername with the glasses wasn't half bad neither to a young nerdling with nothing going on.

qdpsteve, good point on Spielberg. I never noticed it until A.I. but that movie it was just too over the top in trying to instruct me how to feel.

Posted by: I still can't think of anything at May 21, 2021 12:51 AM (wuzpH)

633 Axeman, I understand completely. I didn't think it wore out its welcome until about the 75% point (when as I recall it gets really preachy and simple-minded), but others have better "movie ESP," for lack of a better term, than I do. :-)

Quint, exactly. Director Gary Ross all but put up a picture of Newt Gingrich and instructed the audience to perform a two-minute hate, by the end of Pleasantville. Really spoiled it.

Posted by: Axeman at May 21, 2021 12:56 AM (Eicbe)

635 Quint, also thanks re Spielberg.

I give Steven Spielberg a lot of latitude because for being such a Dem-supporting lib and bubble-dwelling Hollywood creature, SS is one of the few filmmakers who doesn't go out of his way to spit on the suburbs or middle-class values. In fact he seems to actually value and cherish them. Too bad he has so many other blind spots (see "Munich").

Posted by: qdpsteve at May 21, 2021 12:57 AM (L2ZTs)

636 i think possibly the most overrated movie from "our era" is Back to the Future. Sure it crushes 90 percent of what comes out now and what has come out over the last decade or so. But come on, people act like that movie is Citizen Kane. I assure you, it isn't.

In that year alone Amadeus, Beverly Hills Cop, the Karate Kid and for sure A Soldier's Story were better movies. But you rarely hear of any of them. We saw A Soldier's Story in High School because the film was so important. Today it would be cancelled. Now I get why everyone likes schlock like Back to the future, not one wants to cancel schlock. it is like cancelling ice cream.

there were other better movies too. Like Under the Volcano. I never watched it but I hear the book is incredible.

It is very much a time-and-place film. Not saying kids today won't get it, cause it is very technically well done, it just feels like a film that has all the right pieces but its assembly is *just* off so it has a vibe that something isn't quite right.

But Spielberg did Jaws, Raiders, Duel, Empire of the Sun, Amistad, E.T, really is goes on and on. And a special mention for Schindler's List. Look, we all like what we like. I personally think the movie Back to the Future had one good joke, the Reagan joke, which was a left wing shot trust me. It was entertaining, but I was a teen during that time, and trust me, imo there were many better movies even in that year. Some think of 1985 as one of the best movies for films and music.

i enjoyed it quite a lot. You can tell me personal opinion, I think it is overrated. Watch is and then watch five other films from that year. Because nothing that comes out today will even get close. But I did like the film. I just don't agree it is cannon. Hell, a different year but to me, Vacation was a more important film. Again it depends on how old you were when these movies came out. Hell, I remember when E.T. came out, that is all anyone at school talked about. I doubt that happens today. I hope they are not all going on about John Oliver.

it is stupid to tell someone what to like. I did like back to the future. To be honest, it is the reaction videos that turn me off. Watching them over and over, as everyone has to do it, it shows me there are only a few acts, and to me, personally, they grow old after a while. I am not trying to convince you or anyone else to not like the movie. But if you have a chance check out A Soldier's Story or Amadeus. Really just search 1985. There was something about that year, people still go on about it 36 years ago. I guess that shows a bit about movies and music today.

You are right, Skip -- according to the 'tubes, it was the first movie to be entirely filmed in color.

Hmmm, color, explosions... may rethink objections to watching this movie.

Fun fact I just learned: 2017 was far worse for excess deaths in the United States than 2020. IOW, 2017 was worse than Covid.

When you factor in the life expectancy of those excess deaths, 2020 was only 1/3 the loss of life-years than 2020.

A paper just out details this. This is something you will not hear. We've been lied to in so many ways.

Oh, and some Things They Haven't Told you about the Covid Vaccine. I was just reading this, and this all comes for real, scientific, peer-reviewed papers on the subject.

Neutralizing vs. Binding antibodies. Ever heard of it? The former are antibodies that actually neutralize the pathogen. The latter are sort of poor quality control antibodies that bind to the pathogen, but fail to neutralize it. Sort of the immune system's quality control failure or something like that. :-)

Well, the 'Rona vaccines produce a ridiculously high ratio of binding to neutralizing antibodies, so much so that the dose has to be much higher that usual -- that is total antibody count is much higher that normal, even higher than an actual infection with Covid would produce. The reason is to get enough neutralizing antibodies requires the total number of antibodies to be very high.

This raises concerns with "ADE", antibody disease enhancement. That is, there is concern, and evidence, that the vaccines can make an actual infection with Covd *WORSE* that without it.

It's much more complicated than that, and if you're honest you can at least guess at it. Was Kamala forced to suck married man Willie's dick?

I wasn't there the X100 times she did it, but I suspect her main motive wasn't fear. I'd choose the phrase 'naked ambition'. heh heh heh

Hell, I'm still trying to figure out why the press covers Kim Kardashian in her latest "revealing" outfit. Oh how daring... considering there's video of her fucking Tommy Lee on teh webs. That's kinda "revealing" too.

722 Results of the study: COVID-19 vaccines designed to elicit neutralising antibodies may sensitise vaccine recipients to more severe disease than if they were not vaccinated. Vaccines for SARS, MERS and RSV have never been approved, and the data generated in the development and testing of these vaccines suggest a serious mechanistic concern: that vaccines designed empirically using the traditional approach (consisting of the unmodified or minimally modified coronavirus viral spike to elicit neutralising antibodies), be they composed of protein, viral vector, DNA or RNA and irrespective of delivery method, may worsen COVID-19 disease via antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE). This risk is sufficiently obscured in clinical trial protocols and consent forms for ongoing COVID-19 vaccine trials that adequate patient comprehension of this risk is unlikely to occur, obviating truly informed consent by subjects in these trials.

Those who claim the Covid vaccines are "safe and effective" are either lying intentionally or are just fools parroting those lies. There is nowhere near enough information to make the claim. All the data so far says much more research is needed before this can be recommended.

All this was a rush job prompted by hysteria and Pharma having tons of money thrown at them.

Again to call these vaccines "safe and effective" is a damnable lie. There is not enough information to make that claim.

Thanks for the info. Lots to think about there.

Data is not helping the Vax pushers. And the Swiss review article shows how ineffective masks are. Which we should expect in an aerosol. But I think there is a fecal / oral component that is not mentioned.

I'll leave you with this. Congress has exempted Pharma from liability from any harm or damages caused by vaccines. They won't produce vaccines without them (which should make you think). They passed that general immunity in the '80s. That applies to all normal vaccine. Congress created a govt. fund to cover damages. Every year, a small number of people will have severe adverse reactions to normal vaccines. This fund covers them. To date, it has paid out around $4B in damages.

So, Uncle Sam pays the damages, not Pharma.

This Covid vaccine is entirely different. The law grants it a special status. The above fund does not cover it. There is another, special fund for it. With a much higher standard of proof.

When you take the 'Rona vaccine, you have to sign a waiver which gives away what limited rights you were left with. If you have a reaction to it, you are SOL.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion of a Poperin Pear at May 21, 2021 04:12 AM (Mzdiz)

735
Case in point. 18 yr old girl took the vaccine. She had a severe blood clotting reaction. Seizures, brain damage. She's fucked up for life, and her medical bills will run into the millions over the rest of her life.

She has no recourse. They had to set up a GoFundMe for her medical bills. This may change, but her insurance won't cover it, because it is *an EXPERIMENTAL vaccine and she signed a waiver*. That special govt. fund might cover it, or it might not.
