One of the highlights though is this ending theme, by Kanon Wakeshima, a classically-trained cellist who decided to expand her horizons a little. Tech News
Right Light Rise Music Videos of the Day This is Kanon herself singing the full theme, with a bunch of guys who may or may not be the band; I can't tell for sure. I hope this plays for everyone; the music is licensed by Warner so there aren't a lot of good copies around. And here are Kanon and the band performing it live in concert. Now the entire crowd can join in the flag sequence. Right Light Rise starts at 31:42 if the player doesn't take you straight to it. Anime Notes Yesterday's comments (readers at my blog: the other comments) wandered into the relative merits of classic isekai - another world - fantasy shows Vision of Escaflowne and Fushigi Yuugi, which aired at roughly the same time. Two words of advice here:
It might not be be Yoko Kanno but it's better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick. Except for the Miaka! Takahome! parts. Those, I'd take the stick. Disclaimer:That fun little show just got renewed for a fourth season, so be warned if you do start watching it. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

My Nisei friends had me listen to J-Pop in the '90s. Once in a while I've tried to figure out which Pri-Pri etc. songs they were enamored with, but I don't get far in my search before bailing at the cringe.
Many suns ago, The Dude linked some K-Pop. Bubble Pop. Can't forget it. Hyuna looked great in cutoffs and a white tank. Posted by: that's all I've got at May 02, 2021 02:33 AM (SgOfM) 5
Humbled my mere question inspired a op-ed on your part Pixy. As I tend to savor my anime series, it will be awhile until I finish both Escaflowne and Fushigi Yuughi and hopefully the conclusions of the regular run is enough to satisfy my curiosity.
And hearing, the creative and cute Kanon has definitely peaked my fancy and DanMachi will be on the docket tonight and all I can it says... my hunger for good anime never ceases to be filled thanks to your great menu, Pixy. Posted by: Lazzari Scooter at May 02, 2021 02:41 AM (YvEh8) 6

In that concert video certainly looks like Kanon-sama was having fun. But what better way to market the featured acts and shows but to give the fans more?
Concerts with seiyuu are not a rare thing either. While my posts are percolating in your mind Pixy, I saw you're planning a re-visit to 80s anime for some personal recommendation- Kimagure Orange Road soundtrack and Bubblegum Crisis soundtrack have some real choice beats.
Oh, and I'm definitely digging DanMachi for its intriguing premise, fun action, great sound and Hestia...but mostly Hestia, though ;-) Posted by: Lazzari Scooter at May 02, 2021 03:25 AM (YvEh8) 9
Hey, Anna! Eerie we both bring up the classic OVA Bubblegum Crisis in our commenting...like some anime ESP or something. Here hoping we see some Hurricane action tomorrow, as in "Konya wa Hurricane" by incomparable Kinuko Oomori ... and unforgettable Knight Sabers (Pris being the best, of course, but I have soft spot for Nene, too)

And Anna, I do recommend watching the "A Wind Named Amnesia" for the worthwhile plot, decent adventure and good visuals.
Really enjoyed the initial act with the protagonist and his little teacher so hopefully thats enough for you to prep yourself for the long, and for the most post, enjoyable quests the main duo has to solve along their journey. Although, I do forewarn the ending is a little disappointing for its open-ending nature and its constant re-use of its mechanical antagonist. Bubblegum Crisis 2040 managed to make Bubblegum Crush endurable. That's how bad it is. Sylia is not Ifurita for one thing, Sylia is an elegant lady with a very specific agenda. And the Buma angle is simply bad writing to give the story a 'twist.' Ranks right up there with is Deckard a Replicant or not.
Well "Konya wa Hurricane" certainly is a rocking song just as long as we are not treated to the live action of Oomori Kinuko belting it out. Talk about bad fashion choices there Priss Posted by: Anna Puma at May 02, 2021 04:00 AM (xvEYc) 14
Skip, you got the right approach with anime as I often overload my plate with too much anime goodies. Of course, Pixy spoils us all with so many appetizing options so we all must try to discipline our anime appetites. Although, I glad to hear you're keeping up with Kei and Yuri, their adventures will keep getting better and more wild as the series goes on. I don't think I need to sell you anymore on Panzer, that show speaks for itself.

Skip yes the Lovely Angels are worth it. There is a caveat, Dirty Pair Flash where like Bubblegum Crisis 2040 they redid the character designs for a simpler style more in line with the likes of Tenchi Muyo or El Hazard. If simple designs and spikey hair are oft-putting after being spoiled by Kei and Yuri's original designs, avoid Flash.

Yep, there is only one Bubblegum Crisis and thats the original OVA, and perhaps the last episode of Crush which wraps up the series somewhat.
Oh, Anna, we might be anime buddies, but don't go messing with Priss fashion choices..well maybe you have a point... but can agree to leave any criticism of Priss' hairdo out of the debate? IIRC, the original "name server" was a nice secretary at the Stanford Research Institute. She maintained the master hosts.txt file for ARPAnet. There was no name server lookup. Each host had to maintain its own hosts.txt copy. The secretary at Stanford held the master copy. To "register" you host name, you contacted her and she would update the hosts.txt file with your (what we now call) IP4 address. I'll prolly check out Vision of Escaflowne. If you're a bebop fan, it's got to be good, right?! I mean, it's completely different, visually, thematically, and musically, but it's certainly well crafted. Give it an episode and see if it grabs you. Posted by: Pixy Misa at May 02, 2021 08:04 AM (MqQvv) I'm similar. Example: I'll recommend Bosch or The Expanse, but I say, if after the first episode you don't like it, it's just going to be more of that. Changing the subject to Ubuntu..... I'm assuming that servers are using that because it's free. Correct? At one of my old labs, we setup the majority of the computers with that to save costs. We kept our laptops with Windows for undergrad students. Posted by: Draki at May 02, 2021 08:13 AM (s85a/) 42
41 Changing the subject to Ubuntu..... I'm assuming that servers are using that because it's free. Correct?
Mostly because it supports ZFS out of the box. If I had to pay for ZFS, I would. It solves so many problems. Need to take database backups but the backup utility is slow? ZFS! Got millions of duplicate files and don't have the time to sort them out? ZFS! Log files taking tons of space but it's a pain to rotate them and compress the old ones? ZFS! Need to back up an entire file system, every day, to an off-site server, keeping a daily archive of all the changes, and only ship the deltas and not the whole damn thing even when blocks change in the middle of binary files? ZFS! Posted by: Pixy Misa at May 02, 2021 09:08 AM (MqQvv) 43

I can see *why* people are experimenting with DNS alternatives, given what Google, etc, have been attempting to do with their DNS fuckery the last couple of years.
For the majority of Western average Joe internet users, if Google decides something doesn't resolve to an address - then the site doesn't exist. DNS isn't a thing on their radar and they just use whatever their devices are set to use. Posted by: somedood at May 02, 2021 09:59 AM (CtltA) 45
Where ever I am, I may be connecting to a server running Ubuntu, but I'm probably connecting from a laptop running Debian Unstable.
It used to be that you needed "Unstable" (also known as "Sid" after the evil kid in "Toy Story") to get any advanced features like the ability to use the 3D acceleration of your video card. However, I just installed the current stable (whatever it is---I don't really keep track because I have computers to do that for me) on this other laptop I have and it seemed to work okay. There are advantages to running Stable, mostly having to do with security patches and the fact that things won't just disappear or get all bollixed up on you, so we'll see how it goes. Ooohh, I could see how backup speeds would be very important. Especially with how much data is on webservers nowadays. I've been lucky that most of my experiments don't require more than 1TB of data.

With Escaflowne, watch the TV series. If you're curious you can then also watch the movie, but don't watch it first. It tries to compress a 26-episode TV series down to 98 minutes, and it simply doesn't work.
----- I doubt anyone will read this, but I feel a need to add my bit anyway. While the Escaflowne movie tries to stick to some of the same themes as the TV series, calling it a compressed version of the TV series is misleading, imo. The two share little in common beyond names and a general theme (though they both approach it from very different angles). The female lead is the most changed, and has almost nothing in common with the TV rendition aside from her name. Not only is her personality completely changed, but they even went so far as to completely change her appearance (and not just in a "we got new artists and animators for the movie" sort of fashion). Someone watching the movie for the first time should not expect to get a "highlights reel" of the TV series. The two are entirely different from one another, to the point where if the writers had given the movie a completely different name, you wouldn't have known it was inspired by the TV series. For smart contracts Ethereum or coins based on it are pretty much the standing option at least for now. Ethereum's future has some roadmap plans that plan to switch from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake, which should reduce the electrical cost of mining (network) nodes relieving the need to charge higher transaction fees to recoup cost and make a profit.
On the horizon is Cardano, which already has proof of stake, but does not yet have smart contracts which are expected to be live later this year. I doubt it's going to be winner take all between these two, and frankly the space will benefit from competition between the two, and as exciting as decentralized DNS is, the real tidal wave impact is going to be decentralized identity. Between these two elements, there will be no gatekeepers on the internet, and the real world will be pulled along kicking and screaming. Websites will no longer defer to facebook etc for identity verification, and payments will no longer need credit cards to be entered into a website. This single identity will tie in your bank, DMV, insurance etc, and no single entity will be able to non person you.
