Gone, But Not Forgotten

Little is looking for his first job, so I was talking to someone the other day about first jobs. While it wasn't the first place I worked, I did spend several years working as a waiter at Chi-Chi's. He had never heard of Chi-Chi's, which doesn't surprise me much, I'm not sure they ever got very far into Texas, the state is full of authentic Mexican restaurants. Still, the 80s were a magical time where one of the hottest chains in the country was a faux Mexican restaurant named after the Mexican slang for tits.

Even if it wasn't “authentic”, it was still pretty good food for a chain restaurant, and on nights they put out the all-you-can-eat, make-your-own taco bar in the cantina.....well, I wish I could find an all-you-can-eat taco bar today, that's all I'm saying.

It's an interesting article, but aside from the content, I noticed two things. One, the author seems to be at some pains to excuse the Commie side, because of course Franco was supported by the Nazis so his side has to be the bad guys. Unfortunately the Commies were not “good guys”, they were Commies for heaven's sake! I see a lot of this in academia, trying to shoehorn factions into “good” and “bad”. It never seems to occur to anyone that you can have two bad sides. Just ask the Poles, they figured it out a long time ago:

The other thing that I noticed was the determined effort to separate “modern art” from the use it was put to. Just because “modern art” was used to psychologically torture prisoners doesn't make “modern art” bad. It's a premise that I agree with, but I wonder if the author would be willing to make the same argument WRT guns. He's an academic, so I doubt it.

#1 is fantastic, and maybe the perfect action movie. I won't spoil it in any way, but it has maybe the best premise I've ever seen, clearly communicated and extremely simple, and one that every man can relate to.

Don't watch #2 or #3. Don't do it. They're fine, but the first one is so perfect that it's silly to believe there's any incentive for a clearly suicidal person to continue doing any of it. Especially in #3 when they introduce a female equal that is also a superhero, because by that point it's hard enough to continue believing Wick can be both that good and that lucky over and over and over, and then TWO of them can be.

But definitely watch #1

This is true according to what I've heard, but the antibodies after a vaccine (or any other similar illness) also last about 90 days. It's the T cells that carry on the immunity function after that, remembering the offending organism so they can mount a rapid defense if the bug ever returns. This protection can last for years or a lifetime.

My understanding is that this is poorly understood, but complex. The reason the vaccine is in two shots is because the immune system needs multiple challenges before it moves the defenses into the memory cells and is able to wage an immediate counteroffensive in the future. or something.

The CW now is that there is a plausible explanation for why the vaccine might be better for people who were already infected. There is no actual data but there are market projections and I gotta tell you they look amazing - We expect 300% bonuses all around this year.

I don't remember what it was, but it is whatever the green vehicle is. Had the clear roof window so T-rex could threated the kids. Fun fact- when the dino head drops down and the kids are freaking as the window drops on them? That reaction was real, the dino head malfunctioned and dropped far more than it was suppose to.

The AZ audit isn't about the 2020 election, it's about the 2024 election. I have little hope for righting past wrongs. Most people today still have no idea of the actual factual information how the election was compromised. The courts denied any honest review of it. Progda and Dominion, specifically, have taken advantage of the court's covering of the election fraud.
So with actual, factual proof, Progda will try to go into another spin cycle, but it will be much more difficult this time. Of course many of their barking seals will just demand another herring, but it is the independent American, that mostly doesn't follow things except from the top of the hour news on radio, the front page of their local Progda newspaper, or a Yahoo!News! blurb on their phone.

And that is what the Left is terrified about.

I just know higher light chain numbers (but not too high?) is good. If they ever explained it to me I was in the early treatment haze and did not retain the knowledge, but they say it is a positive when they tell me my results so it must be so.

I've been watching prices the last couple of months, it is difficult to anticipate the ticket prices for this October. The economy and air travel picking back up.
While prices go up and down, I think on the flights I need, they are already starting to fill a bit. The supersaver fares for quite a few of the flights were already gone, which was not the case just a couple of weeks ago. Unless I wanted to go home to SeaTac via SF and a 4 hour layover. Nope.

Coming in Love on Wednesday afternoon instead of Thursday afternoon. I have 24 hours to change it if that extra day of planning and set up is still on, and you need the help.
Jim, I believe that was the plan, so other than an extra day to swap tall tales and bourbon, I do hope there will be some extra shooting time. Lord knows I can use the instruction.
I still have no idea where I'm staying or how to get around, but at least I'll be in the correct time zone. One step at a time.

206 Jordan. make sure you ask about options for the prep. There are several different ways to do it. I researched it and found out that there is one where you don;t have to drink as much and I was able to sleep through the night so wasn;t completely strung out the next day. It is more expensive so they don't like to prescribe it as the insurance companies don;t want to pay. The copay was slightly higher but well worth it.

I think there is a window that is considered to be a good thing. Once numbers are out of whack it is a sign things are wrong. But maybe it is too high that is off, now that you mention it? I know it is one of the clues they look for. They mostly just medical babble at me when they could save us both time and just get to "What does this mean" since I can't follow any of the numbers nor do I know what "normal" for them should look like.

I had the 'Rona last November. I have antibodies, etc.

The antibodies will last...for a while. But...you also have T-cells (White blood cells) that are "tuned" into killing the Corona virus. They reside in your lymph nodes, etc. and they will last for a LOOOOONG time.
Last fall, I read a study in Germany that looked at the early infected, and after 7 months, people still had antibodies.
If you get exposed again, the T-cells will swing into action first, and begin to activate new anti-bodies to kill the virus.

252 Regarding old kid mysteries, I just saw a strange but enjoyable movie called “The Kid Detective”. The premise is an Encyclopedia Brown type kid grows up and continues to believe he’s a detective. It is listed as a comedy drama but it isn’t a comedy. It takes its premise seriously, which means there are comedic bits, but it’s mostly a real mystery (and apropos of the premise, with real clues).

It’s one of the 2020 movies that got bumped, I think.

Given the alternative seemed to be at any moment any significant bump could cause what remained of my C-7 to collapse, that was kind of my reaction. I didn't go to med school -or even major in pre law- but I kind of assumed having a vertebrae completely collapse falls on the "sub optimal" scale of things.

And thanks. I have concrete in my spine now there so I imagine that will be fun at an airport if I ever fly again. I get treatment at a teaching hospital and the Doctor in training who looked at my X-Rays once obviously hadn't looked at my chart before coming in as she stared at the X-ray and in quizzical voice said "It looks like you have concrete in your spine." "Because I do."

Thanks. That procedure went well, though a good 2 hours longer than he estimated. Mom said it was the most anxiety producing 8 hours of her life. I was out for the whole thing-and the having to put me under was part of what made the procedure so tricky as normally the patient is awake when they fill bone gaps with concrete. Which is odd as they want the person awake to tell them if something feels odd, with the concrete pressing against the spinal cord but if the concrete moves there they can't do anything about it anyway.

Amazing part is the doctor who did this performed the procedure on his day off, and waited to come up to my room for an hour after the anesthesia wore off.

Meanwhile I resent having to answer e-mails on my time off.

I wanted to give you all an update on the young man who I asked for prayers a few nights ago.
He has opened his eyes and appears to be responsive to requests to squeeze his nurses hand and blink when asked to.
This is very good news considering that just two days ago, his family was meeting with his doctor's to go over their options.

I'm certain that he has come this far because of people like you who have been sending out prayers and good thoughts.
I honestly believe that this has made the difference from him still lying in a coma to sitting upright and aware of his surroundings.

I'll say it again, you all are the best group of people whom I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of. God bless all of you.

I caught a girl I was with as we were laying in bed checking her Instagram posts that a friend/accomplice was posting. I peaked over her shoulder to see her husband making comments "glad to see you're having fun" thinking her and her friend were out at some place enjoying a "girls night out".
What he didn't realize is that her and her friend took those pictures previously a few nights before and in the pictures she was dressed EXACTLY in what she was wearing to my place that night.

375 Chevy's and Chi Chis were similar. Chi Chis was normally a larger place, a bit more festive. I think CA has the best large Mexican restaurants of that style. In the right parts of Texas, the small joints really reign supreme.

My favorite "fast food" Mexican place was Taco Cabana. You really could not beat that place for price and food you could get quick.

The worst thing about the procedure is afterwards I drove a few neighborhoods over to get some weed but had forgotten my ATM card since I didn't bring it with me to the hospital. Had to shlep back, after finding a parking spot, get my card, and find a parking spot. Was worth it, though, since at that point it had been nearly a week since I had last gotten stoned.

In 1990 we were expelling Iraqi forces from Kuwait (but mostly destroying them, or at least their heavy equipment and armament). In 2003 the deck of cards was for the former vile criminal regime members we were hunting down, righteously, to deal with.

But of course we should have gone into Iraq to topple the regime in 1990, when that made no sense and that wasn't the idea, and then we shouldn't have in 2003, when there was a very good calculated risk reason to do so.

At least in the universe that PBS and many others live in. Many of them who'd never turn on PBS.

Hubs and I were in Hawaii at the time (25th Infantry).

He didn't have to deploy, but he was deployed to Kauai in 1992 to help set up comms after Hurricane Iniki. The youngest daughter was two weeks old at the time, and we had to evacuate.

515 Braenyard, those that complained were in Baghdad and other places where they didn't have to deal with IEDs, since the populace was mostly friendly.

That was not the case in Tikrit. The Ba'ath party was very much still in control in the summer of 2003. We had to deal with regular mortar attacks at the COBs and FOBs we were at, not to mention the IED attacks whenever we had to travel via Hwy 1.

When that WP article came out, the division was back in Iraq on the 2nd deployment in Taji, north of Baghdad.

That, and the fact that the '85 "square-body" 'burbs were very prone to rust. The succeeding series of Suburbans, '91 to '00, were better in every way, especially body integrity. I owned an '85, still own an '88, and own '96, '97, '99, and '08 'burbs. The '08 is nice in some respects, but the '90's series has it beat in all-round utility.

I've used it as part of a devotional with my church softball team a few years ago and also to help explain to my kids (who are not exactly kids anymore) that I never look back on things with regret because one little random thing I may have done differently years ago may have resulted in me not being their dad.

Like I stated earlier, I was pissed that the Army sent me back to Hawaii.
After my oldest daughter was born in 1989, I had no desire to stay in the Army. It was an Honorable Discharge, but it bothered me as I got older throughout the 90s.

In early 2001, I decided to reenlist in the Army, at the age of 32, which I had to go through Basic training again, as well as AIT in a different MOS (Ordnance).

LOL, in my line of work, "chapter 13" is bankruptcy. That must've been one helluva final week you had. I was finishing up 2nd week at airborne school when Saddam invaded Kuwait. They almost canceled school before we could jump but found one, solitary, lone C-130 to jump everybody from, 5X. Never did a 141 jump. Bummer.

698 Morning Horde.
Have a nephew Riley update. His initial chest, neck and jaw pains symptoms cleared up before they released him from the hospital last Saturday. They biopsied one lymph node before release. It came back negative. Since nothing indicated the issue with the mass in his chest which was the size of a lemon they scheduled a biopsy of it for yesterday morning.
Horde prayers work.
The radiologist scheduled a CT scan to pinpoint the mass for biopsy. It was gone.
What they deduce is he had a full body inflammation triggered by his second dose of the Covid vaccine.
Thanks again to all who prayed for him. He's been cleared to return to his normal life.
