James Carville: "Wokeness is a Problem and We All Know It"

Admitted to the wokester clickbait terrorists at Vox.

It's not a very sharp critique. Carville either believes the chief problem with "wokeness" is that it makes for clumsy, jargon-y "messaging."

But maybe that's all he feels safe saying -- because he acknowledges that anyone who says there's a problem with wokeness will be "clobbered or cancelled."

"Wokeness is a problem," he told me, "and we all know it." According to Carville, Democrats are in power for now, but they also only narrowly defeated Donald Trump, "a world-historical buffoon," and they lost congressional seats and failed to pick up state legislatures. The reason is simple: They've got a "messaging problem."

...

Carville: You ever get the sense that people in faculty lounges in fancy colleges use a different language than ordinary people? They come up with a word like "Latinx" that no one else uses. Or they use a phrase like "communities of color." I don't know anyone who speaks like that. I don't know anyone who lives in a "community of color." I know lots of white and Black and brown people and they all live in ... neighborhoods.

There's nothing inherently wrong with these phrases. But this is not how people talk. This is not how voters talk. And doing it anyway is a signal that you're talking one language and the people you want to vote for you are speaking another language. This stuff is harmless in one sense, but in another sense it's not.

...

Wokeness is a problem and everyone knows it. It's hard to talk to anybody today -- and I talk to lots of people in the Democratic Party -- who doesn’t say this. But they don't want to say it out loud.

Below, Bill Maher mocks the woke. It's not exactly paradigm-shifting for us, but this was said on ultrawoke propaganda outlet HBO, so I guess it's something.

E. CuppS. was on the show. As usual.

Idiot pushed "health care" as the magic bullet in a PA special Senate election, was wrongly credited with that working, then was there when Clinton won 42% of the vote (genius!), and also there when Clinton behaved like the buffoon he was ("Hillary care", a reprise of the stupid PA campaign), and was reduced to burbling "but the president still matters!" at a press conference.

Political genius.

Nope. No kind of intelligent person at all. And his comment on Trump, the most effective president (acting almost entirely single-handedly) in a generation, or generations, confirms he's an airhead.

96 Sorry, Carville.

You and your crew of gangsters threw in with the Marxists to expand your power. The Marxists threw in with the Maoists to expand their power and you went along for the ride.

So what now? Now you're pissed that the gangsters are dead and Maoists are seizing *everything* in sight to expand their power to totality? Angry that you're now on the receiving end of the terror you helped to create, enable, legitimize and embed into government?

What? Are you worried that now that elections are hopelessly corrupt and the state is firmly controlled by the Marxists and Maoists that you mere gangsters no longer have an entree back in? You see the writing on the wall that the growing tyranny isn't yours?

Well fuck you. You helped build it. Choke on it. If there's any justice, I'll see you in gulag.

If Dems manage to make wokeness the state religion over the next 2-4 years without losing power to the GOP, they win. That's the English perspective of names. The name that most groups of people call themselves is typically just their word for people. Most names consequently sound pretty stupid when translated into English, so we just lift the foreign word entirely. Sounds silly if we refer to the Alemanni as the Men United tribe.

A Democrat appointed by Democrat governor Napolitano has now been assigned to the case. That Democrat judge has now moved the hearing up to today- and I expect he will shut down the audit. There must be a lot of fraud that Democrats are afraid is going to be uncovered. Why else go to this much trouble to shut down such a transparent audit?

181 "Woke" isn't a set of liberal ideas or values, it's a religion where one gains status by being the most enlightened person in the room or discovering a facet of sin that others have not yet recognized. It's a type of spirituality that rewards someone who can explain why they are more spiritual, more *attuned*, than the next guy. It's competitive, each member of the faith trying to outdo the next person in finding more sin than anyone else could find, and finding it *first*.

224 I think what Carville is talking about is not so much "wokeness" as we use the term, but about how there is a sizeable percentage of our population who are so disconnected (and proudly so!) from the "real world" that it's becoming alarming.

The number of people that I know who would never deign to do any kind of "manual labor" (like ... painting a bedroom) and hire "other people" for that kind of stuff is unbelievable. It's like a class marker to them. And part of how they can tell who else is in their "class" is based on speech patterns. So saying "communities of color" or referring to people as "humans" ("John is like the nicest human ever") etc.

Anyways, these people now run everything. So there's that.

I disagree - he's the old style establishment type, liberal grifting is just ways to bribe voters and governmental workers to keep his type in power. The problem with wokeness is that the woke believe it, and can't pivot away to the exact opposite when the time comes. This reduces the flexibility of the guys in charge.

The difference in the real world is that Carville types at least deal with the voter's desires to the extent they need to fool them into biting on the hook he's holding. The woke don't see individuals, they just are dynamite fishing from the pier, come what may.

Tried to look up what you were talking about, could only find the "Senior Executive Services" which seems to have the same civil service protections.

Trump did write a couple executive orders near the end of his term to expand his ability to fire people(which would've no doubt gone through the courts), but the pool of people he could actually fire was pretty small. The bureaucracy is protected by legislation.

256 Heh. I was on a axiom call and was shooting the shit as people were joining. I mentioned I did all this work in my backyard over the weekend and I swear the reaction of some people was as if I told them I flew to Mars. Like what? YOU did yard work? Huh? Isnt that what our friends from Guatemala are for? They didnt say it but I could tell they were thinking it.
Posted by: Joe XiDen at April 27, 2021 02:17 PM (kQUDo)

Yeah, happens to me all the time. People are aghast that I used to work in carpentry and am good with my hands. I was out at a bar with a bunch of colleagues one time and was telling a story about I ran out of bar oil for my chain saw mid project over the weekend and was debating whether I should call it a day, or risk using the saw without oil and it started raining, so I said "perfect, decision made for me" and went inside and got a beer.

Kind of boring story about my weekend, but everyone was like "whoa, whoa, whoa, you were doing WHAT?!?!" and were fascinated / horrified that I did my own yard work and owned a chain saw. I felt like I was one of those remote tribes in a national geographic documentary or something.

These Key Similarities Between Lenin's Red Terror and America's Woke Culture Reveal Left's Blueprint For Complete Takeover

There are many lessons to draw from the blood-soaked life of Lenin. But one of the most important is this takeaway for the terrifying woke moment America is living through right now. [bold]Things are not going to naturally get better. Things will not organically "calm down." [/bold]Until there is a fundamental reset of America's treasonous leadership class, today's unthinkable witch hunt is merely a prelude of an even darker globalist terror to come.

I agree, and think it was a huge fuck up.

On the other hand, from the rumors we've been hearing for years, it sounds like everyone in DC was more or less told "if you work for Trump, you're done in this city."

Which wouldn't be a problem for me, I think Trump should have exclusively hired people who had never worked in DC. But ... idk... I guess Trump thought "the best people" were all the swamp denizens. I've said it before, though, I don't understand why he didn't just hire, for example, a state AG from like Idaho or something to be the attorney general, and a cop from flyover country to run the FBI, etc. etc. Why not?

321 Since we're about to get willowed anyway, I might as well actually comment on something Carville said:

There's nothing inherently wrong with these phrases. But this is not how people talk. This is not how voters talk. And doing it anyway is a signal that you're talking one language and the people you want to vote for you are speaking another language. This stuff is harmless in one sense, but in another sense it's not.

Welcome to the party, pal. You're about 30 years late. The Left - that is, your team - has been using ecclesiastical and pseudo-scientific language for a long time and hit critical mass starting in the 80s. It is now leaking out into everyday life.

It makes them harder to understand and lets them speak in code to each other while sounding unapproachably smart to the rubes. Where the hell have you been?

330 @Colorado Alex, they didn't even do that. That would have been an improvement over the void. The Trump personnel people were making excuses like, "We're not even sure that position should exist." Maybe true, but in the real world, an Obama holdover or an acting GS bureaucrat was filling that position "temporarily" and was doing harm. Republican apparatchiks would have at least done less harm.

377 The Young Man and the Carville:

He was an odd man with a face that was all forehead and a pug nose and a sneer. He had been in politics for many years and had made money and wore tight jeans like the jeans that the homosexuals in Paris on the Rue de la Concorde wore. He was from Louisiana. His name was James. He was at a table with a man.
"If we sit here, they will make us order another pastis," the man said.
"That's okay. We'll have another."
"Should we?" It was dusk; the man knew that James had to meet with a rapist from Arkansas who smiled a lot and had fingers like Nosferatu. They had to meet about politics.
"What about Bill?"
"What about him?"
"Aren't you supposed to meet with him?"
"We'll meet. First he has to fuck a middle-aged secretary. Then we will meet."
They ordered drinks. The waiter sneered at James. James sneered back. The waiter left.
"Do you suck him," the man asked. "Bill, I mean? I mean, after?"
James looked at the man, then at the drink, then at the sunset. "Sometimes," he said. He took a drink. It was getting late. "Sometimes not."

I always get pissed when I hear these people probe they have perfect understanding of the shit they lie about every day.

I remember some Republican proposing something and prominent Democrats like Ofuckstick coming out and explaining that the government won't be paying for it but rather citizens will, through taxes.

This is stuff our idiot side of dummy asshole intellectuals waste time trying to "explain" every single day to combat their ridiculous bullshit. Then they come out and flippant show they know. *I* already know they know. But it's infuriating.

401 "Handled by the community" means that, say, a black teen stealing a SUV might just be shot dead on the spot rather than apprehended and dealt with via the court system, which is one of many things that happened in the CHAZ.

Might just be?

402 Sounds like a great plan. And as time progresses we can formalize training and certification of the members of the community, and then formally schedule a group of them in each municipality, specifically to take care of crime issues for us. Heck, if it works out, it might even become a profession.

458 the problem is the guy coming from a nice place.

Because he is the problem. You can't force "nice" on those that do not want it. We have proven that - its as useless as the War On Poverty. All "nice area" cop will do is prevent the Law of the Jungle from taking its natural course in those areas. And that prolongs the problem - not fix it. Those feral areas will not become "nice" until the residents are sufficiently miserable to choose nice. And everyone that disagrees with you isn't a troll, genius.
