For the Sake of Racial "Equity," Virginia Cancels All Advanced/Accelerated Math Classes, and Will Make Everyone Learn as Slowly as the Slowest Students

But Nice Tweets under this regime, right?

Now, as a junior or senior, you will be allowed to elect more advanced classes -- classes that you would have been taking as a freshman under the old system.

So this is how we achieve "equity" -- not by teaching the ignorant, but by retarding the talented.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is moving to eliminate all accelerated math options prior to 11th grade, effectively keeping higher-achieving students from advancing as they usually would in the school system.

...

"[A]s currently planned, this initiative will eliminate ALL math acceleration prior to 11th grade," he said. "That is not an exaggeration, nor does there appear to be any discretion in how local districts implement this. All 6th graders will take Foundational Concepts 6. All 7th graders will take Foundational Concepts 7. All 10th graders will take Essential Concepts 10. Only in 11th and 12th grade is there any opportunity for choice in higher math courses."

His post included a chart with what appeared to be set math courses for 2022-2030.

It should be kept in mind that students always had the option to not take accelerated math courses, or any advanced course. Smart but not-so-driven kids could always elect to take the normal classes.

But now they're taking that option away from students.

They will all essentially be retarded to match the slow progress of the poorest-performing students.

But hey we have Nice Tweets so that's the only thing that matters.

77 I was a VERY bright child. My mother knew this and asked if I could be skipped to the next grade. The principal looked at her and blinked, then said "What for?"

(My mother did not pursue the issue as she was not aware of, even then, how bad our schools are.)

Today it is even worse. Schools are absolutely failing the best and the brightest... POOR STUDENTS. Which means that our public schools are stealing the future of the best poor students in order to acheive "equality."

I say poor students because most wealthy (or middle class) parents won't put up with that crap and will remove their child when they realize they can't get the challenge they need.

So we are dooming the most competent poor children, whether white or "POC", to be held back and prevented from reaching their full potential. In the name of "anti-racism."

(Additionally, our society depends on the best and brightest being the most capable they can be to help grow and pull everyone else along... and we're handicapping the chances of that now, too.)

I recognize this bullshit because my wife's a teacher. In real world terms, that means admin lumps a bunch of students together and the teachers are told to come up with an individual teaching plan for each of their 180 or so students they have that semester.

The teachers don't actually have time for that, so they pick and choose the engaged or the outliers and spend some extra time on them, but for the most part everyone gets the same instruction.

When the teacher succeeds, admin claims it was their brilliant program. When the teacher fails, admin blames the teacher, funding, training (which means more funding is needed), etc.

I choose to look on this as another nail in the coffin of the public school juggernaut. Anything that motivates parents to get their kids out of there and into either private schools or home schools = good.

131 There was talk of this when I was in school. I'm not necessarily against it.

In my district, it worked like this -- students who did well in math in 5th grade (!!) were put on the "advanced" track throughout middle and high school. Students who did not do well in 5th grade were put on the "normal" track in middle school, then depending on your 8th grade math class you went in to "normal" track in HS or "remedial" track.

I moved there after 5th grade, so I was stuck in the "normal" track (which is fine), but a lot of people thought it was very unfair for this potentially life-altering decision to be made based on 5th grade math grades and harkened back to when school districts had a 3-tier approach to teaching -- the "managerial class" takes one set of classes, the "worker class" takes another and the "manual labor" types take another.

My cousin went to an expensive private school and got around the same SATs than I did but had a much higher GPA in part because honors classes were on a 4.5 scale, and AP on a 5.0 scale. He got in to better colleges, even though we took roughly the same classes and probably had roughly the same class ranking (although never of our schools would release that info to us or colleges.)

It's all a game.

I think what they're trying to address is the issue where kids who come from money and parents who know whats going on and who will go in and bitch at teachers over grades can afford to hire private tutors and argue with teachers constantly to get their kids on the "advanced track" in middle school, which they will be on until they graduate, which theoretically helps them get in to a better college when they're seniors.

281 I took algebra I freshman year in high school in FFx Co. (1981-82). I took geometry during summer school so I could catch up to my peers who took it freshman year. 10th grade was Algebra2/trig; 11th was analytic geometry/functions; 12th was calculus BC. Frankly, everything above geometry turned out to be useless in my life, though I do have an appreciation for the exposure I got to them, but what the state is doing is beyond asinine. You know what though? I got where I was because my mother stood up for me (my father was providing for the family and mom was a pretty based Jewish child of Eastern European refugees, so look the F out), so this should be an object lesson in what I've been bleating here for months: take control of your local and state politics or someone else will do it for you and you won't like the results.

Funny how everybody has forgotten that Brucey killed a guy driving. Never heard any toxicology level, nada, zilch. Because that was when he was bravely transitioning. I'll take a wild stab at this having been settled out of court, unless somebody actually got a snippet of news after that?

Here's a short and very funny clip of Norm McDonald with Brucey:

370 The State GOPs aren't really incompetent.

The deep state buys/blackmails/destroys enough of the people in them to make them ineffective.

Seeing these games with red state governors it is painfully obvious. It is much earlier to turn one person, the governor, then say a bunch of state reps. But if they become too much of a problem, there time will come as well.

372 Fairfax Co. (NoVa) has a huge Asian population. I'd have to get my yearbook out to get the actual #s, but at least 1/3, if not 1/2, the students in my honors and AP classes were Asian, primarily Vietnamese, then Korean, Chinese. (By contrast, there were very few black or Jewish kids.) Some were recent immigrants and some had ancestry here that went back a ways. One Vietnamese kid I knew, who was not in the honors classes because he had just come over from Vietnam, was required by his parents to spend an hour a day after class reading the dictionary. By senior year, he had come a long way. That's how you adapt to a very foreign culture and language.

school that so far has been a blessing and my kid looks amazing on
paper. But the state is currently trying to pass laws that require 3
days a week in a seat with a teacher, because the regular public system
is such a fiasco.

that has been true a long time. Not casting aspersions here, and everyone has different experiences over the years. But CA is not known for having great public schools. Move to somewhere red, if you can. Quality of education is largely dependent upon the individual. If not, send kid to state school in a red state, then he claims residency by staying there for residency limits.

"The production of monsters--helpless, twisted monsters whose normal development has been stunted--goes on all around us. But the modern heirs of the comprachicos are smarter and subtler. They do not hide, they practice their trade in the open, the results are invisible. In the past this horrible surgery left traces on a child's face, not in his mind. Today it leaves traces in his mind, not on his face. In both cases the child is not aware of the mutilation he has suffered. Today's comprachicos do not use narcotic powders. They take a child before he is fully aware of reality and never let him develop that awareness. Where nature put a normal brain, they put mental retardation. To make you unconscious for life by means of your own brain, nothing could be more ingenious. They are the comprachicos of the mind. They do not place a child into a vase to adjust his body to its contours. They place him into a school to adjust him to society."

Places like San Quentin sit on some of the best real estate in CA, so that'll get turned into a google campus. Others that are centrally located will be upgraded to house the millions of new voters. Something for everybody!

487 11th and 12th grade is way to late to make a difference.

We were lucky to our kid into an accelerated learning program which included in fourth grade. The school system stopped new entrants the next year.

She had to take a test and her results were just above the cut off. The principal didn't think she was a "good fit" for the program but left it up to us. We said "hell yes we want her in!".

Fast forward. She's an undergrad at MIT. She would have never gotten in without that accelerated learning program.

may want to wait = don't bother

if your odds are 99.97% with vs. 99.97% without AND its an experimental drug
AND they are telling you that you will not have immunity AND you will still be able to spread it

You would only be taking it to experiment on yourself, put money in pharma's coffers, and run the risk of side effects, which even though are not likely, they can be serious indeed.

Also, you get to cooperate with evil if you take it. So maybe that's a plus for some people.

Ok. Track #1. Bridges Burning

It never goes anywhere. Same beat and rhythm the entire time. And I am not a fan of Dave Grohl's scream attempt. He must learn to use it sparingly. And it's around a minute too long. Song isn't terrible, but they have better. Wouldn't turn it off if it came along somewhere, like I would "Best of You," which is one horrible song.

Track #2. Rope

Better than #1, IMHO. Has more of a hook, does a better job of time changes and change between body and chorus. The time used to make it a 4+ minute song, unlike #1, has a decent little break with guitar and 'noise.' This one has a better chance making my standard rotation.

this is true. I think Mike Rowe should run and be supported. If another person speaks as clearly and as on point as he does, that person is in a small group. I could say some others that fit into that group, there is no doubt there are a few. But Rowe is the one the kids and parents should listen too.
I know areas of NOVA, rich areas, that used to be military, lawyers, etc. Now there are tradesmen living in the same expensive houses. The reason is simple, the tradesmen make bank because the "betters" can't fix a thing, and they are proud of it. If you were in the country, there is no chance it would cost you so much. In the country, men know some things, they know the basics for sure. In Demo land, men know nothing and like it.

80 lbs of tannerite didn't crack anybody's foundation. That's silly. My whole house shakes when my irritating children slam the front door. It doesn't take a big delta of internal pressure change to move things a bit.

50 lbs equivalent of TNT will take out a building column if it's sitting right next to it.

80 lbs of tannerite--no where near TNT on the explosive scale (tannerite's RE is 55 - or 1/55th the potency of TNT) just made a big bang and made people mad.

CA's has been dumbed down. The bar in AZ is currently considering dumbing down the test here (although it's pretty easy already) because too many blacks and hispanics fail. I don't know why they just didn't add a few hundred points on to the scores of minority applicants, like the universities do, so they have more "equitable" pass results. They may as well just hand out licenses to all takers, since they've made admission requirements a joke anyway (admitting illegal aliens, convicted felons, etc.).

There is an interesting movement in SC to allow members of the militia (citizens) to regulate themselves (at their own cost) thru the State armories. This transfer would seem to be outside of the NFA scope.

You can be a member of the SC militia and not be a citizen of the State - I was as a cadet at The Citadel, for example. Who would have standing to prevent me from from buying an integrally silenced, SBR from the State armory? Could they come after me in Virginia for possession without a Federal tax stamp?

They locked the door during business hours and there was an angry crowd outside. Finally someone said the computer went down so they could not, and would not, do a thing.

I thought at least they should just give the donuts away. The fixed costs were in, the workers were going to be paid. A bit of dough and sugar would be a nominal loss considering the chance to keep customers, not lose them for life.

The jab isn't as serious as having those pour out of vulnerable tissues in the lungs and other organs, but those who'd be very susceptible (genetically) to a regular infection are still going to have a rough time with the shots. And everyone is rolling the dice with strokes and such.

Remember, COVID is a blood clotting disorder, not a respiratory illness; the pneumonia is the result of tissue damage in the lungs, not the cause of it. Those clots are also the cause of the neurological and cardiac issues.

Not that I apporve of "vaccine passports" (I do not, not by a long shot), but if they do, my yellow vaccination certificates are ready to go. I'll whip them out just to confound people.

689 That's total bullshit. It doesn't have anything to do with the genetic makeup of the cell or the body. It's RNA, and that is very different than DNA.
===
RNA does not equal DNA is true.
However, it doesnt' necessarily meet the objection.

Most RNA polymerases are DNA dependent RNA polymerases meaning that they read a DNA template and make a complementary copy using ribonucleotides. Hence, the product is RNA. Reverse transcriptase does the opposite. RT reads an RNA template and makes a complementary copy using deoxyribonucleotides. So, the product is DNA.

There's a lot we don't know. And some of those same people who claim its tot's safe were, not long ago screaming that vaccines cause autism. You be you. But if you think there's no potential downside to playing with RNA on a PLANETARY SCALE, you might want to consider humility, Mr. Gates.

RTs have a role, but they don't just scoop up random RNA and then insert that DNA into the genome. It just doesn't work that way..

These suggestions are straight out of sci-fi novels.

Yep. This much is true.

Although, it seems to have some unusual affinities that manifest in interesting, almost gain of function ways for a respiratory virus.

I'm sticking to my guns on this one. Even mild cases can cause the months-long losses of taste and smell; it is not in any way limited to severe cases. There is no regular cold/sniffles/upper or lower respiratory infection that includes encephalitis-induced neurological symptoms.
