So, has anybody noticed that 13% of the world's trade has ground to a halt? Mega container ship hard aground in Suez Canal. The ship is the ULCV Ever Given, bound for Rotterdam from China. I'm given to understand that it and its sister ships are the largest vessels in the world. You can track the ship here, what's interesting is to scroll out and look at just how many ships are stuck waiting for the canal to clear. 13% of the world's trade goes through the Suez Canal, and now....it can't. I even read one report that some ships have headed for the Horn of Africa rather than waiting. This whole thing is a global disaster (the report that the ship was captained by the first female Arab captain is false, BTW), and the international community has responded promptly...by making memes.— ONT WTF (@OntWtf) March 26, 2021

Apparently, one of their moderators is a trans guy whose father was convicted of some truly heinous crimes-torture and sexual abuse of a 10 year old. His son, Aimee (nee Ashton) was a politician in the Green Party of the UK, and after they threw him out of the party Reddit hired him as a moderator where he is banning entire subreddits who even mention his father's crimes, while Reddit itself is trying to hide the fact that they hired Aimee. I'm not going to provide any links because frankly all of the people involved are fucking disgusting, but they're out there if you want to look for yourself.

I took my wife to downtown Chicago today for some tests by a specialist.. back again tomorrow..
That actually went very smoothly! There was a valet company a few doors down who took and retrieved the car at not too terribly steep a price - $22 bucks, but it was a bargain to be able to stay with her and get her into the clinic.. traffic is crazy down there near Northwestern Hospital.
Anyway.. the fun happened on the way home.. we ordered some takeout to pick up in our town.. that timed perfectly.. but when I was trying to pull out of the parking lot, some woman was trying to back into a parking place behind me.. it was EXACTLY like the Evergreen meme above! Back and forth! in and out.. too funny!

It's not even that the duck/chick was a moderator (which is a volunteer position, similar to a cob), but he/she was a hired admin (who far outranks a simple moderator) and put his/her degenerate friends/lovers / husbands in charge of many subs, including basically all of the LGBT subs, including the ones aimed at teens. I've seen this elsewhere, and the question is what do the Texans have to gain by making the guy's name mud? At 14 suits the League is going to be forced to sit him for a bit or lose the ability to sit any player for accusations in the future, and a long drawn out headache isn't going to make him a better QB in the long run for the Texans.
Now some fan could be behind it, but with nothing to gain the Texans only benefit it they did this after trading the malcontent, but now they can't even do that as they won't get anything for him and he will find a mass of people against him on any team he'd go to, cause #BelieveAllWomen.
The simpler answer is he is full of bad decisions, and when he started to show up in more headlines some of those decisions circled back on him.
That said, I've no idea if he did what he is accused of but I do know (well, saw the numbers not any games) that what he didn't do was lead his team to even a break-even record, so not sure why people are thinking he is Tom Brady Part 2.

The Europeans, like us, rely on cheaply made goods from third world countries, which we no longer can make on our own, and barely have any stockpiled in our countries. When shipping stops, even briefly, it affects the entire supply chain of all kinds of basic stuff in the 1st world. We saw this with covid, and we will see it again with a ship stuck on a sandbar in Egypt. We (and the rest of the developed world), have ever little actual ... stuff ... in our warehouses, nor do we have the manufacturing ability to easily make it ourselves.

Food, not so much. Europe + the Americas is pretty self sufficient for the staples. But most of our cheap consumer goods both here and in Europe come from Asia.
So we'll see some weird shortages if the canal is not opened within a day or two. Including "exotic" things like coffee.
I mean, the ships can make it to the US and Europe by going around Africa, it just throws off the whole system to add that much time and fuel to the journey.

Best price on SPP - $110/1K (but you gotta buy 10,000 to get that price .... actually I think that stuff will go fast, easy to "need" 10K primers for the longer run, also easy to get 3 or 4 reloading pals to take a few thousand each).
LPP - $189/1K.
General price for both, pre-panic = $30/1K (and one can do a bit better, sometimes).
I didn't even specify type of primer, just searched for all kinds. Until today, that kind of search had yielded 0 primers apart from percussion caps for black powder.

The terlets here in the new house are low flow (they have to be to pass code). However they are the type with the 3.5 gallon tank, and the weighted flapper valve. All you have to do is just hold the handle down and it will empty the entire tank.
I let it do the 1.5g flush for "non solid" loads, and do the full for "solid laden" loads.
The only problem is the bowl washdown in no good. In order to get a good flush with just 1.5 gal, they have to direct the flow down to the siphon jet at the bottom and you get very little bowl washdown.
With high flow terlets, more water could be directed down the sides for washdown.

It's extortion of the allegations are false. I'm assuming facts not yet in evidence.
Suing him after he signs a huge contract extension just means he has a ton of money to pay lawyers to defend him and he has no incentive to settle because he's already rich. Going after him privately just before he signs the fat extension after his rookie contract you're a lot more likely to get him to throw you some easy money.
The attorney now has 14 lawsuits he has to litigate on a contingency basis against a Guy who has millions to pay to hourly defense lawyers, and absolutely no chance now that this is public that Watson will be willing to settle without a lengthy battle (I.e., Plaintiffs' attorney is going to spend 3 years litigating before he sees a dime). I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

Fed Ex claimed on Tuesday they tried to deliver a package, but no one was home. -Except there were 2 adults and 2 kids doing virtual non learning here at the time.
On Wed it was dropped off, no sig required so "no one home" didn't matter.

I used to be pretty good at the whole econ thing, this is where we are at: 1)we are in for a grim reckoning, *or* 2) everything I ever learned about Macro Econ is folly.
There is no door #3, literally the ONLY chance we probably had to right the ship was an unfettered US energy sector and repatriating as much of our lost manufacturing as we could.
America (allegedly) chose very poorly.

I came *this* close to saying "well if you're the one who's gonna do it, then I'll get stitches", but stopped. She seemed to think I was hitting on her, and also rejecting her medical advice, and she was right.

The system tried to reset in '08. All that bad debt had piled up, and the system was realizing the debt was bad, worthless, and was going to reset. A deflationary depression would've resulted. Maybe a 10 to 20% drop in GDP. It would've been rough. Many people wiped out.
That wiping out would've just been a recognition of reality. Every debt is someone's else asset one way or the other, and someone has to eat it.
Governments and central banks set out to prevent that reality from being recognized, and "save the system", to continue the fiction that all that bad debt was still good. They succeeded. Well, for a time, kicking a big can down the road.
What they did was effectively transfer the bad debt over to the goverment and central bank balance sheets. This was done all over the world.
What they have done is make the inevitable reckoning and crash far worse than it would've been. The more the kick it down the road, the worse the final reset becomes.

There is a whole genre of books about exploitation of immigrants by telling them lies to get them to move and reduce labor costs on the other end. The Grapes of Wrath, The Jungle, and many others about exploitation.
How come no one is using this angle. Micheal Yon has some posts up and it seems most of the immigrants are pretty clueless about the reality of their situation. Surely most dems feel that illegals are abused in the US and face horrible hardships.

I don't know what to tell anybody, and wouldn't presume to. But I can say this. During a depression or a reset, shit-hit-the-fan times, economic collapse, what you want is real stuff. Real physical stuff. You do not want paper, or know a lot of it is electronic, you don't really have any paper that says you have this amount of dollars saved up.
Paper is worthless in a collapse. By real stuff, I mean land, house and home, tools, equipment, and skills. And precious metals like lead and brass. I'm meh on gold and silver shit -- lead and brass are the best precious metals in a collapse.

I remember reading a good piece on what would've happened had we just let that reset happen in '08. That is, said ok, we're not gonna try to save this bad debt, we're gonna let it crash and clear all the deadwood.
20% hit to GDP. A lot of people would've taken a big "haircut" on their assets. 401Ks and everything else.
It would all be over now, and with all the bad debt and deadwood flushed out, we'd be humming along now.

"Three hots and a cot" (and NOTHING more) for anyone starving in the streets. They could've set up tent cities in old military bases and shit like that. A very austere existence, but no one would've starved.
And guess what, to do that would've required only a fraction of the cost and new debt as they incurred bailing everything out and saving the system.

That figured was calculated from "what would've happened" analyses, and it was cumulative, the total hit to GDP from the peak to the trough. Over several years, IOW.
In the Great Depression, that figure was about 25 to 30%. The greatest annual drop was 12% in 1932, IIRC. From '29 to '33, US GDP dropped about 25%+.
It varies by how you calculate it. They argue about the various methods.

30- 89% delinquent is about 3% of total mortgages. And most of those after bankruptcy would have devolved to the banks, which would have NOT engendered a loss.
Whole thing was crap. Laws already in place would have protected banks EXCEPT THEY had lost control of who owned what properties.

Funny how he can go for *hours* during the day without needing bathroom... I try to nap then but usually not very successfully.

Yes, velocity of money has tanked. It's why the basic 6x increase in base money since '08 has not done anything. IIRC, I remember the best "stock of money" measure to use to calculate velocity was MZM, money of zero maturity. Inexplicably, the FED is discontinuing the MZM data series. You've got M0, M1, and M2. And then MZM. MZM was the best measure of "money available" to be spent/used.

While the notion of velocity of money is an important concept to appreciate, I actually have a distaste for it. Let me explain. Velocity is something that can't be measured directly. There is nothing you can do to go out and measure aggregate velocity of money.
One can only calculate it, based on some measure of the money stock (and, again IIRC, the MZM notion of money stock was the best one to get an accurate measure of velocity).
The way I like to think, just use the product MV, monetary momentum. Consider the basic "equation of exchange". MV = PQ. Money times velocity equal aggregate price level times "real goods/services exchanged" (an equation of state, from which no casual relationships are predicted are derived -- like the Ideal Gas Law).
A little calculus and you show the differential change in price level is thus:
dP/P = d(MV)/MV - dQ/Q
Note I leave MV, monetary momentum as one quantity, not breaking it up into money stock and velocity.

The Keynesians used to believe in something called the "Phillips Curve" which was a believed relation between inflation and employment and GDP (output). They believed that full employment and economic growth required inflation. If inflation was low or zero, then you would have high unemployment and low or contracting GDP.
Milton Friedman, leading a school that became known as the Monetarists, said that was all bullshit. Inflation was merely a monetary thing (as I mentioned above) and you could have full employment and high GDP growth with no inflation.
The 70s proved the Phillips Curve wrong. High inflation and high unemployment and low growth. This was "stagflation".
Paul Volcker believed the Monetarists. The previous Fed heds did not. So he said, all right, I'm gonna kill inflation. I'm gonna tighten the hell out of the money supply, and cause interest rates to shoot the moon.

Now, while the monetarists held there was no real causal relationship between inflation and employment/growth, there would be short term changes and shocks caused by tightening.
To stop inflation, per monetarism, you wanted to slow the increase of monetary momentum. Doing that was going to cause a *temporary* increase in unemployment and decrease in GDP. Short term pain, but it would stabilize later.
And that's what happened. Volcker's ~20% rates caused a hell of a recession around '80 and continued to '82 or so. But Volcker (and Reagan) stayed the course.
And the monetarists were proven right (on this). Inflation was killed and the economy recovered and went gangbusters.

I thought I was in bed, but not. Too many details, but Miley had gotten up and hollered for me. Our cat, Jake the Uncooth, has managed to catch a *full grown rabbit* and was trying to bring it in the house through the cat door.
We got him stopped, and the rabbit got away, but damn, our cat caught a full grown rabbit, over half his size. He couldn't carry him, but was dragging him. Jake took off after him, giving us a dirty look for making him lose his prey.

Bill-I am sorry you are in pain. I have not tried Boswelia, but I do use turmeric and curcumin (they come together) in 500 milligrams and it has helped with both inflammation and pain that I have. Also limiting sugars significantly helps a lot too.

If you thought Biden wasn't going to be fine at the press conference, well, that was just hope. All logic pointed to scripted questions, softballs, and Biden reading pre determined answers. And complete and total air cover for every mistake. He just needed 10 seconds of clarity. Anything beyond that was a triumph.

I got out of a huge medical bill after the hospital was bought out by another system and the new system sent me to collections rather than honor the payment arrangement. I asked them to prove I owed the debt, and the amount they were requesting was the actual amount I owed. They couldn't and wrote off the debt.

Leftists point out how housing is "unaffordable", and they have a point. But the system is setup to never allow a worthless asset to reach its true value. Because it is leveraged 50 times over. So they can't sell it for what it is worth, and prudent folks who saved cash can't buy.
