Ace of Spades Pet Thread

Pet Thread 3 27 21 (1).jpg

Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Sure it's Saturday afternoon and you're busy. But hey, take a break and enjoy the world of animals.

***

A Little of This. A Little of That.

Do you think your cat is as pure as the wind driven snow? No, they aren't cute photos of the kittehs.

***

I received the following from a Moron who obviously checks out The ONT and the Ace of Spades Pet Thread.

I know the pet thread doesn't typically have a musical interlude, but I heard this song driving to work this morning and thought it would be a good one. It covers one of my most fervent prayers.

I couldn't agree with you more Roger. The Fabulous Mrs. Mis. Hum. and I were discussing some of our long gone family pets members. Good song. Thank you.

From our friend Weasel. What a way to chill...............

Meet The PetMorons

Hey, MisHum! This is my boy, Buck. He turned 13 in December. When our other boy Sam (RIP) was about 2, our groomer told us she knew an elderly couple with a 9 month old beagle that was too much for them to handle, so they were looking to rehome him. We went to their house and met Buck, then a couple of days later they brought him over and he met Sam. A few days after that he was ours.

I'm sending you a pic of Buck by himself, and one with both of them (Buck is on the left, Sam on the right). - Jordan61

Two Beagles, my you were a brave person and hopefully had a rather large fenced in backyard. Those critters sure like to use their noses. They look real cozy in your home. Sorry that Sam has passed on. Thanks for sharing today.

My friend knitted neck warmers for my dobies. From left to right in pic, Charlie, Bailey, Geddy, all females. Geddy is top dog (age 9) and the red dobies are sisters who argue about who's second (usually Bailey). We're on 20 acres and they get plenty of exercise, chasing big birds (dove and quail) and mouses. -S.Lynn Idaho

An interesting photo S.Lynn. Snow, bare feet and 3 large dogs. Can't see anything bad happening here. ***SMIRKS***. Never knew Dobbies liked to chase birds. An educational submission. Thanks.

Hello Mis Hum,

Let me introduce these two crazy guys – Hoppy the Cairn Terrier and Lola the cat. They love each other and are besties. When the Hopster goes to Doggycare, Lola waits for him in his crate and cries at me to bring him home. Thanks! Diane

They certainly appear to be cozy and best of buds! Sounds like Lola gets the short end of the stick. What a great snap shot. Thank you.

Hello, another long time lurker here.
These are our two current furballs, Malaki and Tesla, taking a break after patrolling the back yard. Both are rescue cats. They mostly get along, though once in a while, their play turns nasty.
Malaki ( the black male) was at the shelter for a second time when my wife spotted him and called me over to look. I sat on the floor in front of his cage, talked to him for a bit, then opened the cage. Malaki got up, stretched, and walked out of the cage and immediately curled up in my lap. He knew how to close the deal.
Tesla ( the grey/white male) was at the shelter after a young woman had dropped him off. The woman's new boyfriend had given her an ultimatum, either the cat goes or he would. She chose ... poorly. Stupid girl. - Joel

Gorgeous cats. And what a beautiful photo of them together. I quite agree, you can not give up a pet over a human. And never ever trust someone who would give that ultimatum. Thanks for sharing.

MisHum, this is our newest addition to Shep's Place, Rascal a 15 year old dachshund. He's a very sweet boy and very friendly especially if he knows you have a treat in your hand! He gets around great for 15!! - Jewells

I try to keep certain opinions to myself, but not now. How could a sweet old senior citizen K9 like this end up in a rescue? Jeebers. Jewells, you are a saint for performing the work you do. Thanks for that. And thanks for sharing.

Our new kittens were born in a machine shop and lived there for a couple of months but had to be relocated so are now forced to live in a house and sleep on a couch. - f’d

OMG, how can you look at yourself in the mirror every morning? How can you subject those cuties to a life of a couch? Amazed you could share this story with us today. Good on you.

Hey there MisHum,

Population report from southern Utah. Add two. Esther had kids today - a little doe and a little buck.
Looking to the horde for name suggestions.
Onward,Java Joe

It looks like your flock is growing leaps and bounds. Names? Hopefully the Morons can help you. And I suspect names like Honey and Babe will be rejected outright. Thanks for the unusual PetMoron submission.

A big thank you to all of you contributors today. We certainly appreciate you taking the time and effort to share your critters with us.

If you have something you would like to share you can reach us here at petmorons at gmail dot com.

Until next Saturday God willing and the creeks don't rise. Have a great week.

4 The dobies are so cute!!

Thanks for featuring Rascal MisHum. We don't always know the backstory on our dogs and this is one of them. Many times an owner passed away or got ill.

Jenny the other sweet little dachshund is confined to her kennel for 10 days. She bit a volunteer. I'm so upset because she loves to roam around. I think someone tried to pick her up and she got mad. I'll make sure she gets lots of play time in the yard today.

19 Happy Saturday one and all. I'm happy to report that on Tuesday, we will be getting a foster Greyhound that we will be teaching the finer points of being a house dog.

But there is a small catch.

You see, Greyhounds don't get spayed or neutered when they are on the track in case they get a star performer who would make good breeding stock. The female we are getting is either going to be in heat or close to it which means she has to be with us for a few extra weeks until it's safe to do the surgery. So she will be on hold and cannot be adopted out for a while. And my boys are going to have be taught manners.

26 Great Moron pet pics as usual.

I got a genuine laugh out of evil cat pic #1. Back during the pre-Coof days, a veterinary assistant had asked me if my tuxedo cat was clingy to which I replied in the affirmative. He the noted that clinginess was a reported trait among every tuxedo cat patient he had come across at the clinic.

45 I let Pretty Girl out back the other day and she very carefully (and rather defensively) started checking it out -- going "on patrol" as my ex-gf/godkitteh's mama calls it. She'd be out for a few minutes then run back in. She's gotten so used to it, she's now demanding to be let out to have fun in the Sun so I keep the back door and a back window open during the day. She has a fear of abandonment from her past so when she sees me in the window, she comes running back in. After a petting and a treat, she goes right back out. But I'm not going to abandon my Pretty Girl.

Love all the pets up top. Always do. Morpets are the best.

Wolf especially will do that if Linda leaves any of her coats on the bed. I either hang my jackets up in the closet, or drape them on the back of the dining chairs, so he can't usually get to mine.

70 Heads up for those who use Litter Genies:

My Litter Genies are running low so I've been shopping around for refills today and have found them far less available than usual. It wouldn't surprise me if the Suez canal jam-up has at least some impact in this regard. Amazon (I know, I know; I just use them as a search engine at this point) has none for sale directly from their warehouses and their independent sellers have jacked their prices up stupidly high.

What's even weirder is that Amazon has apparently memory-holed all *generic* refills. Clicking on the invoice link to the Firik refills I bought in the middle the middle of last year results in a 404.

I've reluctantly ordered some of the generic Target-branded refills as those are still readily available. YMMV.

85 Some animals cannot adapt when a baby enters the picture. In that case, I don't think there's any alternative to prioritizing the baby.

Outside of cases like that, my advice to people who don't want to live with pets (which, tbh, includes me. Besides the allergies and germs, I don't think any other dog can ever live up to Pepper, who's been gone ten years and whom I still miss almost every day) is don't date people who have them.

I mourn three standard poodles every day. One of these days I may weaken but it's a toss-up whether it'll be another poodle or another guinea pig.

Good luck with the greyhound search, Infidel. Send MisHum pictures when you find him.

He probably has some teeth that need pulling. I don't know what they do for vet stuff where you work, but it can lead to really bad gum infections.

Problem for little dogs a lot.

112 A few months ago, Hex (American Bombay) licked the plate Pooky accidentally left on the floor clean of BBQ sauce, then promptly threw it up. The other night, Pooky did the same thing, and Hex backed away slowly, grabbed the washcloth I'd just finished knitting, and put it over the BBQ sauce. He then hopped up to Pookette's feet on the couch, put his head down in a guard position, and refused to move. I didn't realize he'd be so traumatized by BBQ sauce. :S

114 Hi to all you pet lovers!
So, I'm here to maybe get some advice and maybe some comfort.
I have a wonderful rescue. My sweet Max girl. She's about 14 - a beagle/lab mix. My heart is breaking. She seems to be failing, but damn. She is still wagging that tail, and digging the love. But, mornings seem to be tough for her. Today, she didn't seem to want her breakfast. Mind you, this gal loves her food, and loves her people loving her.
I have a vet coming to my home to check her out...and maybe I'll have to send her over that rainbow bridge.
This is very hard right now, and any input would be so appreciated.
The one very passionate place is here. Any feedback would sooo help!
AoS is the absolute best place to be. Love you all so very much!

116 I guess I may have missed the pets thread. Of course I know you critter lovers understand that folks can totally pray for the lovely, innocent critters? I'm thinking our God cares for them, just as we are cared for. Love you crazy morons!
I'll probably see you upstairs...

Posted by: COMountainMarie at March 27, 2021 06:51 PM (GV6ps)

117 For COMountain Marie -- so sorry to hear about your dear girl Max. My terrier Savannah lived to be 19. She always loved to eat, up until about 2-3 months before the end. Looking back, when she started refusing food, that should have been a signal to me that she was ready to go. When we finally did send her over the rainbow bridge, as the drugs took effect her face relaxed and softened, with a little hint of a smile. Obviously she had been tired and in pain, and I regretted not releasing her sooner. Hope this might be helpful as you say goodbye to your good girl.

I have (jokingly) told people it's "miniature doberman."

We had a beagle-terrier mix growing up. My dad told people he was a Bulgarian Rock Terrier. They would nod wisely.

119 Thank Anita. I've had to send too many dogs over that bridge. We have to understand when that time comes, and get past being selfish about trying to keep these loves around for our own selfishness. I love this girl with all I have, just as she loves me. But, I have to accept that the day will come. I have decided that this will happen at home...it's gonna be hard. But I'd rather it be here at home, than in a clinic. Thanks for your thoughtful words.

122 Before I go; Jewels, God bless you for taking care of those older critters. I'm thinking that maybe the next love I take in will be one of these pals.
Being as I am dealing with an older gal, I see how much love they need. I'll miss my lady. But, I am so glad I'm here for her at this point in her life. They are our special angels.

124 You can always spot a pet lover's home... they put thought into their decor, buy nice furniture and then slather everything in assorted throws, spreads, blankets, towels etc.

My living room looks like the dryer exploded...and that's okay. Cuz we haz priorities and the leather sofa ain't #1.
