The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“We’ve been concerned throughout this pandemic about the level of prolonged stress, exacerbated by the grief, trauma and isolation that Americans are experiencing,” “This survey reveals a secondary crisis that is likely to have persistent, serious mental and physical health consequences for years to come.” APA CEO Arther C. Evans Jr.

Quote II

That’s what the pandemic is for these people. It’s their war. It’s something that lets them transcend their boring lives. Kurt Schlichter

Quote III

“I said, reverse discrimination, I said let’s talk about — you can’t just make things equal. You have to go back and make up for the past just like we have to go back and make up for the past of what we did to black people even though it was our ancestors and we weren’t around. We are s till responsible just like men are still responsible for moving over for women.” Chelsea Handler

Quote IV

“There is simply no question that millions of illegal immigrants will receive billions of dollars in COVID relief checks. This highlights an even more disturbing fact—illegal immigrants are being issued Social Security numbers in large numbers. This is a clear indication that America is simply not serious about enforcing its immigration laws.” Steven Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies

Quote V

“Let’s just say if I were him, I’d be very worried about this possibility,” National Review's Rich Lowry

Ahhh social engineering. Some troops disappointed by check-the-block extremism stand-downs, others laud commanders

Every unit in the military has until April 1 to sit down with its troops and talk about what extremism is and why it’s incompatible with military service, but that training has proven to look very different across formations.

Some troops who responded to a Military Times call-out said their trainers made comments undermining the stand-down during the discussions, while others were disheartened by how short and non-interactive their stand-downs were. Others, though, said their commands went above and beyond, and they appreciated the effort.

“The stand-down script seemed forced and leadership at times would make it a verbal point that ‘we have to do this,’ obviously not authentically interested in leading the discussions or covering the required topics,” a Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida, lieutenant told Military Times. “They also seemed reluctant to have in-depth discussions, brushing off questions, or just moving the conversation to the next topic. It was very surface-level, without significant substance.”

Defense Department guidance for this one-day stand-down includes a few discussion points and a requirement to report its completion. Officials have said it’s open-ended to allow commanders to tailor it to their troops, but according to some, that has looked more like the bare minimum.

Part of this was by design: Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin put out some rough guidance that included the oath of office/enlistment, case studies of extremism and some discussion questions and answers.

The idea was for commanders to take the lead on how it would be implemented, with the ability to add to it, make it remote or otherwise adjust it according to each unit’s priorities.

“For us here at the Pentagon, we’re far detached from that,” Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman Ramon Colon-Lopez. “So we have to be able to trust those commanders in the field to be able to fix the behavior.”

At Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina, according to an enlisted airman, the one-day training was cut down to 30 minutes because leadership deemed it too time-consuming.

“Typically I don’t really complain but this seems to be the attitude towards every non-mission training,” he told Military Times, adding that a recent suicide training was also cut down to five minutes after an accompanying video failed to work.

“Forced” was a common sentiment among troops who responded to Military Times’ call-out

It's time to leave. Leave now. The government of Afghanistan is willing to share power with the the Taliban.

“We responded to the proposals, but not in writing, we had a meeting of the High Council for National Reconciliation and there we decided that we are not against dividing powers. We shared our assessments on all these issues such as how to preserve Afghanistan’s constitution, strengthen institutions and prevent the system’s collapse,” Abdullah Abdullah, head of the Afghan government’s High Council for National Reconciliation, told Russia’s Tass news service in an interview Sunday.

“As for the mere idea of dividing powers before holding the election, we told the Americans that we could discuss this with the Taliban,” Abdullah said.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani made a similar point last week, saying his vision of “power sharing” involved the Taliban running candidates in fair elections and abiding by the results, rather than forming a joint government with the jihadi extremists or retiring from his own office so a hybrid Taliban-Kabul interim government could take over.

“If the Taliban are ready to participate in elections tomorrow, we are ready. But without elections, I am not ready to transfer the power to my successor,” Ghani said last Tuesday.

If they want to live in their 7th century squalor and participate in tribal wars let them. Our service people need to be removed.

When Trump supporters descend on The Swamp Washington, D.C. to protest the November 6th elections they are guilty of sedition. We are conspiracy theorists.

However, Democrats are living proof of election conspiracies.

A source told Politico‘s Playbook the Democrats are going all in to reverse the Republican victory in Iowa’s 2nd District. Mariannette Miller-Meeks defeated Rita Hart by six votes.

The Democrats have not taken a hard stance publically, but the source said the top people in the House Democratic leadership “blessed” the efforts to oust Miller-Meeks.

You can't have it both ways Resident of the White House. Liars gotta lie.

Let's just see how long before the sun-setting Joe Biden tells us no more gas powered vehicles.

We likely won't know the details surrounding President Joe Biden's plans on fuel economy and vehicle emissions regulations until this summer at the earliest, but both of California's senators want the president to get tough on the internal-combustion engine. Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Alex Padilla, both Democrats, have urged Biden to follow the state's lead and set a date to end the sale of cars powered by fossil fuels, Reuters reports.

"We write to urge you to maintain states' authority to set vehicle emissions standards necessary to protect the health and welfare of their people … Importantly, California and other states need a strong federal partner," the senators said in a joint letter to the president Monday.

Sen. Padilla and Sen. Feinstein's office declined to comment further. The White House did not respond to a request for comment.

God willing and there isn't SMOD. William Shatner will be having one hell of a party later this year.

Star Trek's William Shatner is okay with not returning to his iconic role, but he'll celebrate his 90th birthday back on the bridge of the USS Enterprise. Shatner will partake in a two-day event at the Star Trek: The Original Series Set Tour site in Ticonderoga, New York. The exhibit is famed among fans for its replica of the bridge set where Shatner gave orders as Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series. The two-day event begins on July 23rd (a belated celebration coming a few months after his actual birthday in March), with the COVID-19 mask and social distancing rules still in effect. The Star Trek: The Original Series: Set Tour website has additional information:

"Join us to celebrate William Shatner's 90th birthday!!! On July 23, 2021 Mr. Shatner will be visiting the amazing Star Trek Tour set recreation. At this time all events still fall under Covid restrictions. Masks, smaller groups, and distancing will be strictly enforced."

The limited $1500 all-inclusive packages will let fans participate in Shatner's 90th Birthday Dinner

I don't hate them if they obey the damn rules of the road. Why do drivers hate cyclists?

New York City has averaged more than 100 cyclist deaths a year for two years in a row. It’s a deeply disturbing trend, and it’s playing out across much of the country: fatal bike accidents have been on a steep incline since 2016. With more cyclists on the roads since the beginning of the pandemic (remember the nationwide “bike shortage” last spring?) and the length of legislative time it takes to put aside protected bike lanes (that’s to say, lanes with an actual physical barrier between bikers and vehicles), the problem will likely get worse before it gets better.

What’s causing all of these accidents? There are logistical issues at play, of course. Roads are only so wide. But part of the issue is an ongoing psychological warfare between drivers and cyclists.

A study released in 2017 by Portland State University, which surveyed 676 frequent drivers across the country, found that drivers are more worried about not inconveniencing cars behind them than the welfare of cyclists. These drivers are willing to make “unsafe passes” if it means keeping the flow of traffic moving. In 2019, meanwhile, research out of Australia exhibited that drivers don’t view cyclists as fully human.

Bernie Sanders is a warped old Commie, seething with greed, hate and envy.

Progressive Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders suplexed tech billionaire Elon Musk in a Sunday tweet, excoriating the SpaceX CEO for pouring money into interplanetary space travel ambitions while inequality persists here on Earth.

“Space travel is an exciting idea, but right now we need to focus on Earth and create a progressive tax system so that children don’t go hungry, people are not homeless and all Americans have healthcare,” Sanders said. “The level of inequality in America is obscene and a threat to our democracy.”

The tiff — and its background, which we’ll get into below — are a crystal-clear illustration of a widespread tension in contemporary views of the future: whether we should wait until everyone is taken care of on our home planet before taking on the incredibly expensive task of sending people to other worlds, or whether it’s feasible to pursue both tasks simultaneously.

So Bernie, how many hungry are shacking up in your 3 homes? Has your wife driven anymore colleges out of business lately?

Plenty of alcohol. No wedding cake = Genius Award Winners.

MARCH 21--Along with the drunken collegians rampaging across Florida this weekend, a couple in their forties allegedly engaged in an illicit spring break encounter that ended with their arrest for lewd behavior in public, records show.

According to police, Grant Mulder, 48, and Lauren Baugh, 41, were spotted Saturday afternoon around 1:45 PM trysting in Largo Central Park in Largo, a city in the Tampa Bay area. The couple, cops say, were spotted near a veterans memorial inside the 70-acre park (seen below).

As detailed in one arrest affidavit, a Largo Police Department officer witnessed Baugh “lying on her back with her legs spread apart and her vulva exposed as her boyfriend and co-defendant performed cunnilingus on her.”

For those unfamiliar with the term, Officer Lawrence Trinka noted in a second affidavit that cunnilingus was “better known as the union of the mouth with the vulva.”

Mulder and Baugh, the patrolman reported, were visible to park patrons as well as pedestrians and motorists passing by on a “highly trafficked roadway” adjacent to the park. The affidavits state that there was an “indication of alcohol influence” with regard to both defendants.

McCaulley controversial behind-the-scenes power broker in Pierre
For someone who doesn't hold elected office, attorney Matt McCaulley of Sioux Falls, has amassed a significant amount of political clout, and he is among the most influential people in https://t.co/w1ZyQtRHpm?amp=1

"his work for Noem over the past 15 months, while continuing to lobby for 16 private clients, has raised some eyebrows in Pierre. The dual role - well known by decision-makers in Pierre - could give McCaulley unfair and undue influence to affect policy and legislation"

Noem's chief of staff, Tony Venhuizen, is on the board of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, another group opposed to protecting women's sports.

I don't think the problem is that drivers don't see cyclists as "fully human", I think it's that they don't subconsciously recognize them as a threat. There are similar studies that seem to indicate that drivers who "don't see" a motorcycle while they're changing lanes or turning across traffic actually don't - the part of our brains that is still living in trees and shrieking in terror because of cheetahs filters out things that it doesn't categorize as immediate concerns (things that can kill you right away) before passing the scene onto your conscious, decision-making parts.

"Inattentional blindness", it's called.

What you never see in bike lanes here in Houston: bikes.

Because car lanes are narrower to accommodate bike lanes, you now bang door panels with the car next to you while cyclists ride in main lanes or on the sidewalk.

74 This whole "being the me" stuff is an extension of the supposedly low self-esteem conquering "believe in yourself" movement.

Now we have a generation-plus of people who "believe in themselves" for absolutely no fucking reason at all.

This leaves a vacuum because their self has no actual meaning. Additionally they still sense their own inferiority, but their consciousness turns it into a superiority complex (see Obama, Michelle for a good example of this phenomenon).

And of course everything else they supposedly believe in is just another extension of their stupid self.

75 Also, a point that I wanted to make in the previous thread about survivalism before I was rudely interrupted by a most top-heavy champagne flute and the associated cleanup.

Having guns and whatnot is all good and well, but do consider that when the fall of man comes about the Mad Max period will likely only last a couple of weeks, at which point most of the hotheads and mongrels will be dead at the hands of organized militias and those militias will set about turning themselves into regional authorities and all that comes with it. Do you have something that they would find useful? A trade skill, or perhaps a reliable source of electricity? As Al Capone's maker cousin might say, you'll go farther with a gun and a lathe than just a gun. Also, if word gets out that there's some rando living by himself with like 100 guns he may find himself the unwilling armorer of one of the said militias.

Food for thought, yeah? And read up on cases like Somalia because there's nothing new under the sun.

Posted by: Infidel at March 22, 2021 09:45 PM (E0OEG)

Yeah so that's the question, innit? Container homes can be cheap to ridiculous. They are NOT really cheaper than a stick built home of similar square footage.

And the land is raw. Needs a road. And power to the lot. And a well for each lot. And septic for each lot. This starts to add up just for the land. And then there is the off-grid power stuff. Again, you can do reasonable, you can do stupid expensive.

I am thinking a turnkey 5 acre plot with a double 40 ft container home on it and a solar/wind combo (and a 20ft container power shack/workshop) would be something like $200k. That is a VERY ROUGH SWAG.

The commies have gotten everywhere, including into the marketing and PR departments. If you step back you will see that everything has been deployed with military precision. Last April the airwaves were suddenly saturated with this creepy bizarre "we're all in this together, stay safe" line. And it appeared to come out of nowhere.

That would have been explainable by the weird pandemic and companies panicking. What is NOT explainable is how they ALL shifted in unison in June to BLM. We had never really seen anything like it before. Just a few scattered companies trying shit out. This has *all* been planned, up to and including the seemingly "sudden" trans movement.

Which displaced the *women* movement, who only a couple short years ago were the idol of the moment.

In the first two modern movies wasn't Godzilla much bigger than a single destroyer?

So a Nimitz-class is about 333ft long x 134ft wide and displaces 100 kilotons. The latest version of Godzilla is 393 tall and is about 100 killotons. It would be like godzilla standing up in a godzilla sized canoe.* If you've ever stood up in a canoe for long you'd know what would happen.

LOL, we actually went from blacks (2010-2014) to women (2015-2019), back to black for Election Year like always, to trans. I think the trans movement is tailor made to give way to an all-freak movement - basically for a time, once the trans fire dies down and they have squeezed every drop out of it, the media will start reporting on anyone and everyone with a strange proclivity.

Whether it's a guy that fucks his couch, or a woman who wants to live her life as a dog, to people who cut themselves and each other, to the various -rouples and other assorted kinks... and they will being to quietly sneak in the "age is just a number" crew.

BTW: Toyota says that there's no way we can shift to electric cars as rapidly as the pols have designated.

This isn't a matter of working harder to find the answers to tech questions which can be spurred by these sort of deadlines.

For there to be electric cars to the degree they want, we would have to build (and pay for before they become profitable) charging stations, battery replacement and battery repair, also electric energy must be increased at the same time they're cutting coal plants and causing (sometimes demanding) that green energy take up the missing amount but that's impossible because green energy (so far) is not reliable nor is there enough of it. It's not a demand technology.

This is Toyota mind who is the leading manufacture of vehicles in the world today. GM is a pimple in comparison. Sad to see but then they brought it on themselves. Them and the Unions.

241 I always like to ponder how much damage cyclists are doing to the road while they're saving the planet.

I'm assuming roads are weight-rated, and they'll last a lot longer if a 3500lb car is passing over a square foot at the normal 55mph rather than staying on that same square foot for much longer at 10mph (or 2mph if you're going up a hill). Add the three to fifteen cars that get stuck behind one single bicyclist and you're talking a BUNCH of additional weight forced onto each square foot while they wait to resume normal operating speeds the road is rated for. And that's not counting semi trucks or other heavier vehicles.

(thumbs up icon here) Way to go, cyclists. Way to save resources.

261 One big cause of bicyclist deaths is their attitude that stop signs and traffic signals don't apply to them.

I wonder if there is data on this. Overtaken (too slow, didn't see, wiped out) versus t-boned (went thru red light)

I think the biggest cause is the difference in speed and acceleration and their visible cross-section. I have no problem when they ignore stop signs and signals when that doesn't produce a conflict. In the car I am now in the habit of ignoring completely pointless left turn on red signals. (Stop, and if no oncoming traffic (roughly double the gap in oncoming traffic) I turn.

The campus had just dropped a bunch of money on separating the cycle paths from the streets AND setting them apart from the sidewalks, going so far as to pave them with asphalt and paint big "no pedestrian" signs on them.

It doesn't matter. My favorite is the last screenshot before I gave up; basically every pedestrian is walking on the bike path and none are on the sidewalk. My conclusion is that everyone is terrible at everything, except for me.

This is true. There's very little difference between a person just walking down the middle of the road and a person on a bicycle going down the road. The delta velocity is of the same magnitude. The delta mass is of the same magnitude. Therefore the delta inertia is very similar. The difference in the amount of protection between the two bodies is nearly the same. A walker actually has more degrees of freedom and can change directions much quicker to avoid a car than a bicycle can.

We would never allow people to just walk in the road along with cars but we do with bicycles.

We've got an even better electricity distribution network. Every house has an outlet, but most houses don't have gas pumps.

We just need enough electricity to put into it.

The only way we're gonna get that is with nukes, and the greenies are never gonna accept that.

I mean... yeah, there could be human factors issue, but honestly if you're going to make one path for vehicles and one for pedestrians - and you've already physically distanced the motor vehicles - logically the asphalt one that's away from the buildings and more towards the road is going to be the one for human-powered vehicles. Motor vehicles -> human powered vehicles -> walking humans -> buildings. I can't think of a more logical way to arrange it.

Collective guilt does not exist. Guilt does not have a magical transitive property that gives us a share of the crimes of others. Guilt can only ever be individual. Punishment can only ever be individual.

The guilty parties are dead. Punishing innocent living people, for the transgressions of the dead, to make restitution to people who are not themselves victims in any rational way, is absurd and monstrous.

This nonsense needs to be rebuked, loudly and constantly.

378
This is true. There's very little difference between a person just walking down the middle of the road and a person on a bicycle going down the road. The delta velocity is of the same magnitude. The delta mass is of the same magnitude. Therefore the delta inertia is very similar. The difference in the amount of protection between the two bodies is nearly the same. A walker actually has more degrees of freedom and can change directions much quicker to avoid a car than a bicycle can.

We would never allow people to just walk in the road along with cars but we do with bicycles.

394 San Franpsycho, to answer your question, the ridiculously unfit prez and VP are merely the top of the rotten pile. The unserious, and actually not very practically intelligent, "team" (Blinken, Sullivan, surely most of their C- Beltway lightweight staff, and it appears the rather lightweight SecDef) will do the day-to-day damage.

The Clinton years were terrible - and that was merely the dregs of post-Vietnam Dem foreign policy types, with some true lightweight Capitol Hill staff tossed in (because of the shortage of even the former type). Obama era was much worse, of course at the top, but hilariously unfit idiots like Rhodes - or Clinton at State - and sad little third-tier staffers like Ash Carter as SecDef.

Now? Essentially the same deal as Obama years. Same idiotic "ideas" (making Iran the "partner" in the ME?? WTF??), lots of the same non-entities as personnel.

397 LCD actually I think the predominant current is the Japan Current, which arcs through the north Pacific and brings the cold water south - that's why west coast North America has no warm water. When southern currents push north (which I think mean Japan Current passes south further to the west in the ocean, actually), that's when we get our rare "warm" ocean conditions, and you have dorado being caught off Eureka and lots of marlin as far north as the Channel Islands.

408 Boulder: gun type? legally owned? shooter's nutcase condition previously known?

Only asking because generally the nuts are known about well in advance, "law enforcement"* has had them on their radar for a long time, and if they legally own the gun, it's because the system has utterly failed due to politix or incompetence (Tucson, TX church, Parkland High School). That is, layers and layers of "gun control" have yielded zero benefit.

* this now must be routinely amended to note that only some laws are enforced, and some not, including situations where there is immediate direct deadly harm to the public, as with cities/states not cooperating with ICE on dangerous illegal alien criminals

463 Anna, very sparse info so far. One white male shooter, 10 dead, one killed was the first policeman to arrive, no reports of wounded, suspect arrested. Most shoppers ran to rear of store and were helped out of cargo bay. Some hid inside store.

No details on capture/surrender of suspect. Was seen in cuffs and bleeding from leg, appeared to be cuts but that's a guess. He was walking on it. Taken to hospital.

478 No, ".....", there actually are things in the world beyond self-dealing and corruption, though at this blog this appears to be a deep secret. There actually are, and have been, forever, people and groups of people with idiotic ideas that are dangerous. Sometimes they get a chance to implement them. The Obama policy on Iran was very much a sincerely believed and unbelievably stupid on which ignored all realities and interests.

They really think the JCPOA was working and could work. There's been a non-stop and stupefyingly idiotic "debate" going on since Trump got in about it from these people, often engaged (far too politely, which is a real problem now) by more serious people.

483 Caesar, I generally don't think that's true, and I'm certain it's not true in the case of Iran.

The "maximum pressure policy" was working, had a decent chance of "maximum" success (regime collapse) if continued. Which it won't be, now.

This is incompetence directly resulting in damage, and irretrievable. Just as with incompetence/deliberate sabotage in other areas, such as mass illegal migration. It is silly to pretend that any meaningful number of the fake asylum cases and UACs and or outright fence-jumpers now being facilitated into the US will *ever* be liable to deportation, or even that their cases will be adjudicated. They're in, period.

Same for the, likely, 100s of thousands yet to come the next 4 years. The metaphor of the ratchet is not an idle on many, many important matters here.

Hey don't blame the rest of the blog for what I think.

IMO, Iran was/is ally of the Bambi administration and any and all dealings with them were a means toward that end. They believe in "peace" and the "ideals" they profess like I believe in the Tooth Fairy. At best the jet pallets of cash was money laundering back into their own hands, with a hefty cut included for Iran.

BTW, I don't base my opinion on the pallets of cash - my opinion would have *and did* predict the pallets of cash.

People who want to implement idiotic ideas generally end up in middle management. The self-dealers make it all the way to the top. You and I are allowed to disagree - and on this one we do. Bigly.

But I think the Zags got this. And Mark Few, Gonzaga coach, is someone all you morons would enjoy.

As a Husky from the left side of the mountains, I've been following Mark Few for decades now. Shaking my head why my alma mater, with zillions more in resources, can't find someone that good to coach their BB team.
So, I've just given up and become a fan from the wetside.
My blood pressure sure thinks it is a good idea.
And yes, my money is on the Zags (not gonZOGa, dammit!) to do what no team or coach has done since Bobby Knight and Indiana did in 1976.
And oh yeah, dwagyak, Few would fit right in at any MoMe.

And now, with the world's reserve currency on the brink of failure, nobody in the press willing to tell the truth about daily major issues (even go along with their line of bs), and the CCP and their local American proxies the Democrats stealing a national election, they don't know what to do with their good fortune.

547 Pug, lost Dad from heart attack in '11.
Mom moved back to earshot of her 4 sons, now with families.
Lost Mom in Nov '19, a slow physical bunch of issues, but she was mentally sharp to the end. You're situation is even more difficult and I pray for your peace.
When the hospital called and said Mom is fading, all 4 of her boys dropped what they were doing, 2 of the 3 remaining wives did too, as well as 4 of her 6 grandchildren. She was out of it, but I could tell she knew we were all there, when I got there and said "hi Mom, it's LeftCoast", I held her hand and she squeezed it.

For about 3 hours we sat in her room. The talking between us kept increasing as people arrived. I sat next to her. I engaged in the many conversations and then a while later looked at Mom. She had passed.
I to this day think that is exactly what she asked for and God made happen.
Mom always had this special inside thing with God. God never failed her.

What I think about from time to time is how we are all digital now, instead of physical with books, pictures, etc. and what that means for the future people.

One can always pick up a book, no matter how old. A zillion years from now, they can just go back and analyze it like we today analyze hieroglyphics from olden times.

As I was talking earlier today, it's not just the Fed. Just reading, the ECB had to step its own bond "buying" (monetizing Euro govt. debt) to keep their own yields from rising.

Real yields on govt. debt have been negative. Ts have been pulling negative for about a year. Only the 30 yr is slightly positive real yield. The market is trying to make yields go up.

As the ECB action demonstrates, central banks the world over cannot let yield rise, or they destroy their governments.

The Fed will do the same here, if they admit it or not.

598 Moar casual observations from yesterday -- I went to a bank lobby. While it was still posted, I noticed maybe 20% of the customers were sans masks. Not surprised.

I engaged the security guard in a bit of conversation. I told him that the "6 foot rule" was Bull, and there was no scientific evidence to support such an edict. While obeying it. I also mentioned that the CDC was admitting that fact, and that local school districts had reduced the distance to 3 feet for students. I told him to "look it up". Facts are a stubborn thing, I said.

He asked if I served in the Vietnam War. I said no, and I didn't see that relevance to my comments.

Hearts and Minds, people, with an emphasis on minds. This will be over sooner than you think. The People are getting tired of the BS, as worldwide demonstrations indicate, and the Wall will not hold for much longer.

744 265 I used to commute on a bike with a GoPro on the handlebars and "in case of emergency, forward recording to ONT Genius Awards c/o AoSHQ" taped to it.
