Tonight's ONT Fights For Honor And Glory!

But before we get to that, I want to bring up something important. Take a look at this map and tell me if it doesn't perfectly encapsulate where we are in America today:

state map.jpg

(Theme music for tonight's ONT)

Deus Vult!

I was today years old when I learned about the International Medieval Combat Federation. Apparently lots of European nations field teams in this martial art, where teams of knights fight in full armor with actual (blunted) weapons. They even have world championships each year, this year it's happening in Poland in May. I'd love to go but it's just a little too short notice, plus I'm not sure what the international travel situation will be. Sounds to me like it would be a hell of a time, like a Ren Faire without all the “edgy” Zoomer types. Here's a clip from a couple of years ago, check out the hit at right around 1:05. The guy with the bearded axe puts a major crease in the other guy's helmet.

This Is My Shocked Face

Milwaukee Judge and President of Drag Queen Story Hour Group Arrested, Charged With Child Pornography

Wait, you mean that a guy who works to expose children to sexually deviant people was found with child pornography? What are the odds? This has got to be a first!

(ETA I see Ace covered this today, so I'm going to cut the rest of this. Go read Ace's post)

Best And The Brightest In This Administration

Who’s Afraid of Jennifer Psaki? (Link goes to The Moscow Times)

“The return of Jen Psaki to the team of the elected, according to preliminary data, U.S. President Joe Biden was expected, but the fact that such people occupy high government posts in a nuclear superpower is naturally alarming,” Elena Panina, a member of the State Duma’s International Affairs Committee, told the state-run RIA Novosti news agency.

It's all propaganda, of course, and she was referring to this administrations “confrontational” attitude towards Russia, but personally I find an administration that has a spokesperson who couldn't figure out how to pour piss out of a boot if you printed instructions on the heel to be “alarming” too.

A Smart Military Blog

Ok, this is actually an ad for World of Warships, but it's also an interesting rundown of the ebb and flow of the fleet strength of the various combatants in WWII. I did not know, for example, that, on average, Germany had a new sub entering service every 2 days. Of course, by 1943 the US and Canada were putting 3 transport ships into service every day, which more than counterbalanced the German sub fleet.

Magical Healing Tits

This is amusing. It would be even more amusing if the bird in question were also a tit, then you'd have a real tit on tit situation.

First World Problems

Potato letters ruin dinner for mum

I'm literally shaking, having a flashback to the time my alphabet soup called me a dick.

30+ Everyday Items With A Secret Hidden Purpose

Guys, guys, guess what? Your watch pocket was originally designed to hold watches. I know, right? Lots of other “info” that you probably already know at the link.

17 The annoying thing about watch pockets is that with the loss of watches, especially big watches, they’re often no longer big enough to hold a small pocket knife, and thus keep the knife away from the phone.

I wear sport coats and need to look slightly dressed up. My wife calls it Sunday night clothes. Duluth has khakis ("Class Act" IIRC) and shirts for that level of dress as well, which surprised me. Their straight collar dress shirts have metal collar straightening inserts. Metal. And they include a pack of extras with each shirt.

Maybe in Europe, but in the Pacific? Nope. The Pacific theater redefined ruthless.
--------------
The video is being polite and supportive, since a multi-national player audience is involved, and the old hatreds have mostly died with the ones who expressed them at the time. (Present political scene selectively exempted, maybe.) The Allies and Axis played nice through 1942 in the West, especially the North African campaigns where the desert was an enemy to all combatants. Post-1942 Wehrmacht and Waffen SS units sent to the West Front from the East Front frequently brought their acquired bad habits with them, and atrocities against POWs and occupied populations hardened the hearts of the Allied soldiers. The dogged loyalty to the Third Reich also was ever-more irritating to the Allies as 1944 dragged on into 1945, and resulted in ruthless action towards pockets of resistance.

True that. But as the toll of combat increased, the number of mission flights completed was increased to 30 and then 35. I've been re-reading D-Day by Stephen Ambrose this week, and he cited a B-17 crewman who was on his 66th mission providing supporting bombardment of Omaha Beach. The Imperial Japanese forces did not follow a prescribed plan of oppression, but the permissive attitudes of some commanders (especially in the Army) and the corrupted code of Bushido adapted for the quasi-fascist imperial indoctrination meant that an entire series of "regrettable incidents" made the Japanese out to be perfect little monsters to the Allies, especially the fighting men in the field, on he sea, and in the air who had to deal with them. Pitiless deeds were met with pitiless deeds returned with interest, and few Allied personnel mourned when Japanese cities burned in 1945.

Speaking of mutual respect between Germans and us in WWII, I can tell you one that was pretty good. I think I've told it before here, so I'll be brief. Had a neighbor back the 90s. He was a German, and a retired engineer who moved in to the area. In his youth, he was a crewman aboard a U-boat.

They got captured out in the Atlantic, and he spent the rest of the war in one of our POW camps in Georgia. He liked America so much that when he was repatriated, he went to work on getting back here, which he did after getting an engineering degree.

Anyway, he told the story of being captured. They were defeated and the German captain gave the order to abandon ship. German captain was the last to leave his ship, as is traditional.

We picked them up, and Konrad told of being surrounded and held prisoner and being scared to death. Then their captain came aboard. Full honors for the German captain. He's piped aboard with the full shebang, with all our officers and me rendering salutes. He marches slowly and proudly up to our captain, standing there to receive him. He snaps a salute to our captain.

Our captain then returns the German captain's salute as smartly as he could, clicking his heels even. They then *shake hands* and say a few words (he didn't say if a translator was involved, one might not have been needed). The German captain then asks for permission to address his captured men, which our captain grants.

The German told his men something to the effect, "You have served your country well, and did me proud to lead you. Now, the war is over for you and me. Do what the Americans say and you will be treated well. The American captain has given me his word of honor."

And after that, Konrad realized things weren't gonna be so bad.

As I remember, their U-boat sank. It was badly damaged in the battle, and the German captain made the decision to give up and surrender, 'cause they would've all gone down with it had he not.

Konrad was just a grunt who worked in the engine room (he used to love to talk about the diesel engines in those things) and wouldn't know the higher level stuff, but I'm sure that captain scuttled or tried to as much of intel value as he could.

One upside with a .22LR magazine is that most of them have a little button on the side that makes it easy to load them. When you buy a new gun in a complete kit from the manufacturer in a case, they often include speed loaders.
Speed loaders for centerfire pistols are a godsend.

I have been reading about WW2 aircraft since I was a little kid in the early 70s, and it is amazing what info keeps coming out, even after all this time. Every few years somebody comes out with an even more detailed book with things you never read before. Of course, the books cost $100 now, lol. Of course it's pathetic that the allies partners and associates who benefitted so dramatically from Trump's policies (like Japan, Australia, Israel, Saudi Arabia, just to begin with) and who obviously are greatly endangered by these ignorant clowns now in power don't have the dignity or stones to publicly issue any warnings or even leak their concerns. Is Tom Cotton losing sleep because the Dems (of course) are acting like alien barbarians? He was soooo "concerned" that if the Senate even did a half head-fake of carrying out its constitutional duty in terms of presidential elections, those awful nasty Dems might do "extreme" things.

The M0 base money supply is going to jump another trillion and half or so. Uncle has been holding around $1.5T digi-cash in his Fed account for about a year. With the stimulus, the lastest, they're going to dump it.

So the base money supply is going to jump about $1T - 1.5T in a few weeks as they spend it all.

There was some Fed rule that had to be modified to allow the banks to be able to absorb all that extra base money reserves. I forget. Various ratios of this to that, and the other to this. Anyway, they were going to be shot to hell.

Anyway, M0 is going to shoot up a trillion in a week or two.

This is just insane. Treasury "spent" $300B in one fucking day. Now, pre-'08s crisis, the total money supply (M0) was about $800B. Only $50B of that was digi-cash reserves. Treasury used to have to be be very careful about how "high powered, M0" money it took out or put into the system from it's Fed account, so as not to make any shocks to the banking system reserves.

Now, the fuckers can just, BAM!, increase it by $300B in one fucking day without a blip.

Wait a minute...

I am not a goldbug. Gold is not an inflationary hedge. The "real price" of gold varies as much as anything else. While gold is not an inflation hedge, it is a shit-hit-the-fan hedge. If your fucking country collapses, then having gold is a good thing. You may lose your ass, but you've got something. That's all it is.

By physical, I mean real shit that you can use. Land, tools, guns and bullets, etc, etc.

And most of the gold market is paper anyway. You buy gold, (or silver or whatever William Devine is pushing) you get paper that says you have some sort of claim on X amount of some mass of gold.

That's all bullshit. If you've got real physical gold on your property, that might mean something. You might have something that you could trade in the Mad Max, Burning Time. Maybe. But if it's paper, forget it.

So me, I don't worry about that shit. All that matter is useful, real stuff that amounts to something in your daily life.

Yeah, I wrote this up a few weeks ago...

The schoolyard view

Yesterday at school, Teddy Cruz snuck off the playground while the school was holding a Chinese fire drill, and is now in detention.

The school gossip, Polit Tick Ho, spread the rumor that Nikki pulled Donny's hair and Donny ain't talking to Nikki any more. They used to be friends, says Ho.

The thing is, Ho has lied like 5,000 times, but all the dumb kids spread her shitty rumors like they are Gospel. Some of the smart ones do too. 1/2

Posted by: GnuBreed at March 19, 2021 03:39 AM (F0YaR)

555 2/2

The playground is divided into two sections. On the left, all the Teacher's Pets hang out, and have all the latest toys to play with. The right section is tiny and has a worn out tire swing and a scuffed up softball to play with.

The dweebs aren't allowed onto either side, so they stand on the dividing line and shout at the poor righties. A couple of rich kids from the left side buys the dweebs batteries for their bullhorns from time to time. It entertains them.

558 My debate class teacher (female) had a 16yo girl take the side of "sex is great, and I do it safely" and then shut down the discussion when we started kicking the idea around in a clumsy but authentic way. Of course the difference between a citizen and a barbarian is that a citizen knows that ideas that aren't challenged aren't vindicated. That I knew, however vaguely, and the garbage teacher did not. If I could go back in time, I could debate the girl, debate the teacher, and it wouldn't even be close.

A few years after high school I saw the girl. She was wider (a few kids I assume) but basically the same. At the time I was working an ignominious job that required a tie and a nice shirt, but as far as she could tell I was a successful young man. She recognized me but did not approach. The 180 reversal between the super hot girl and the awkward anti-social guy was funny but sad.

First week of December 2019 for me. 3 days of night sweats, a very dry cough, kind of tired but not too much, and then all was good. It was kinda weird, because when I get a virus it usually clogs my head and then goes down to my chest for about three weeks.
Not this time. And then a couple of months later, Progda started in with the various propaganda barrages that we all witnessed.
I still vividly remember when about 5 days after Trump closed down the flights from China and Nancy Pelosi stood in SF Chinatown with dozens crowded around her and said "come visit us, everything is safe". Logic, reason, and reality had officially left the building.

And here we are today, watching the American arm of the CCP melting down our country any way possible.

583 Yeah it kicked my ass for a few days. The fever was persistent. I've never been one to get sick with colds or flu very often, but as I recall I make up for it in severity.

611 Good Friday morning, guys-and any gals- that might be here

May the Lord guide you in your work and in your day. And if you don't have to work today, what are you doing here at this time of the morning? Just habit of getting up early or what?

Here is some spiritual advice from Fr. Pio- a, Italian Capuchin monk, priest and RC Saint

Flee turmoil and anxiety with all your strength. Otherwise all your spiritual efforts will have little success or bear no fruit. We know for certain that when our spirit is in distress, the attacks of the enemy (Satan) are more numerous and more direct. He profits from our natural weakness to succeed in his purpose. Let us be on the alert about this very important point. Whenever we fall into discouragement, let us stir up our faith and entrust ourselves to the arms of the heavenly Father, who is always ready to receive whoever sincerely comes to him.

Flee turmoil and anxiety is easier said than done, but it's good advice nevertheless.

The NFL signed a $100 billion in new contracts - were they in the Covid bill and no one noticed? Sorry for the Faulkner thing this morning.

Gas lines were not a problem for me, not really. During early 1979 I worked the night shift, got off at 9 am, and so when I went to the gas station, most people were at work* and the lines were very short. By the time I started a day shift, the so-called crisis was over.

I see it doesn't take much to set Biden off. A reporter asked about his travels and he shot back, Hey man, I am going everywhere so shut up.

Being argumentative/violent is one of the steps down the dementia highway. Next step is wandering around naked outside the White House. That's probably why they have to surround the city with fence. Not to keep a handful of geriatric 'insurgents' in need of knee and hip replacement away, but to keep Biden* in.

684 In '79, I was livin the 'high life', driving my 76 Vega GT and delivering liquor to strip clubs and honk tonks.

My parents had bought a a year or two earlier and I distinctly remember the nightly news leading off with a discussion of the latest upward tic of prime interest rate. Seems like it hit 18% at one point.
